Also consider that Arthur Brown is more of a developmental talent then we originally thought. The talent is there for Arthur to be a good player but Mosley will be a day 1 starter and is ready to go NOW. Much more of a finished product then Arthur was coming out, 2 time captain for Nick Saban.. this isn't a developmental ILB.
Some of you guys are hilarious preaching BPA before the draft and then get mad when we actually take the BPA lol
Ozzie didn't make this pick on his own. Eric, Harbs, the scouts all had input. How soon people forget teams running the ball down our throat last year. Do you remember Toby Gerhart gutting us for a potential game winning run? Le'Veon Bell among others punishing us on the ground. Mosley will be an outstanding chase guy against the run and be a leader for the defense down the road. Not head over heels in love with the pick but I can respect it.
Also consider that we might love a guy like Buccanon or Terrence Brooks for the value. Maybe even trade up if Jimmy Ward get's in range. I predict we get a FS in the 2nd and a WR with one of our 3rds.
Who? Never heard of him
Cowboys took him right before we took Elam. Cowboys fans were belly aching that they didn't take Elam or Cyprien and that they "reached" on Fredrick and the kid actually had a really good rookie year as their starting Center. Ended up being a really good pick considering he made it to the tail end of the 1st round.
Now I wonder if we'll target an OL like Martin or Lewan or a playmaker in the passing game like Marquise Lee, OBJ, Ebron, Kelvin Benjamin?
I mean FS is still possible but I think the offense is over due for a 1st round selection.. especially after last year
Now if we can land Lewan in the 1st our new look OL will be complete
Blount would be a really good signing. We've struggled in short yardage situations for years now..Blount is a guy who can convert those 3rd/4th and shorts or punch the ball in on the GL
Don't bring back digs unless it's depth/ST. Elam needs to move back to his natural position, digs isn't the answer as a starter and we learned that last year. Go after Decoud or Clemons with that money, digs played his heart out for us but it just feels like his run here is up.
The longer Champ stays on the market the better bargain we could possibly get. His man coverage skills have deteriorated which makes him a liability at cb but I think a move to FS fits his skill set better at this point in his career. With the knowledge he has of route trees and coverage concepts I think he could be a really solid FS. Instead of chasing wr's all over the field he can sit back in almost exclusively zone and jump routes.
Not a fan of the Clark rumors, we need someone who excels in coverage like Champ back there. Clark can still lay a lick on people but he's suspect in coverage and a penalty machine with the way the NFL is calling "defenseless receiver" and "unnecessary roughness". Wouldn't have to worry about that with Champ.
Thurmond would be great but we really need a FS or Center still. We tried to trust our young guys last year at wr and we got burned. I don't want to see that happen with Chykie and Asa trying to fill that #3 cb spot left by Graham. I think we sign a vet cb after the draft and it won't be one of the big name guys you named.
When will the compensatory picks for this year be released? We should get two 4ths for Ellerbe and Kruger and a 5th for Ed Reed.
Let's get Alex Mack and draft a Tackle and we'll be in business
Considering Nicks got a 1 year deal we honestly got the better player for less considering both are short term arrangements. Only way you could argue Nicks was the better signing is if it were a long term deal. Heading into next season I would much rather have Steve Smith. That's why Ozzie is the man. Out maneuvering a competitive AFC team who is just as desperate for wr's and has like double the cap room.. now that's a good GM.
Thoughts on Vince Wilfork release? I still think he is one of if not the best Nose Tackle in the game.
Money would be better spent on Alex Mack or a FS. Nothing against Wilfork but he's not a fit here.
I hope we still get a WR in the 1st or 2nd even if we sign Steve Smith.
1. Torrey
2. Steve Smith
3. Marlon Brown
4. Jacoby
Wonder where a top rookie wr would fit in, hard to believe we re-signed Jacoby just for him to return kicks and be our 5th WR
Yeah Smith said his wife is pregnant and due in July (camp) and he wants to be there when his baby is born in Charlotte, an hour flight from Baltimore. Plus he get's to play the Panthers next year, the stars have aligned for him to be a Raven imo
Hopefully someone else is willing to pony up more cash for the name, that might be all Steve Smith is at his point. He wasn't that great last year.
He was in a run first offense, Smith obviously isn't in his prime but he can come play that Boldin role for us. Make the tough catches in traffic and move the chains. Released so he wouldn't count against compensatory picks, really fits our front office's MO. I bet Flacco get's him the ball a lot better then Cam could, the option/power running game took precedent in Carolina's offense last year and that no doubt hurt Smith's numbers.
He brings that gritty, nasty, competitiveness that Boldin brought to the offense. The FA dominoes are falling, the cap is rising.. time to make some moves and I think the front office comes through tomorrow and makes it official.
If we can land Alex Mack I will do backflips around my house. Geno seems like a great guy but we need a solid Center.
Monroe/ KO/ Mack/ Yanda/ Oher
Now that would solve a lot of our woes on offense from last year
If we don't get a FS we want in Free Agency I wouldn't be all that surprised if we went after the bama boy Clinton-Dix in the 1st. Calvin Pryor is also a beast. They both fit Ozzie's description of an athletic safety. If we didn't sign Monroe I think we almost certainly would've gone after Lewan out of Michigan but now it looks more likely that we go WR or FS.
I like the hire. I think Jacoby will be back now for sure
If he tries to play beyond his means with yet another team some Ravens fans are going to start to resent him a little. Take a cue from Ray and know "when it's your time, it's your time". The ship sailed last February Ed, let us remember you for all the joy you brought us every sunday as the best ball hawk in NFL history.. you don't want to be remembered for playing as a shell of yourself and bouncing around teams. There's nothing left to prove, the pro bowls, a SB Championship, 1st ballot HOF'er, Ed has done everything an NFL player could ever dream of doing.
I really hope Ed retires. Seeing him potentially bounce around teams and play beyond is means is the last thing any fan of Ed's wants to see. A nostalgia tour as a Raven would've been great fan service but at the end of the day the team winning games is more important and it's been decided that bringing Ed back isn't whats best for our team at this point in the season. Ozzie was right about Reed the first time and it's becoming more evident every week that he was right about Boldin. Gotta trust the decision that was made here and move on.
Vet minimum. Understands his role as depth player and mentor for guys like Elam. I say welcome back 20. It would have to be on those terms though.
Those uni's aren't THAT ugly c'mon lol. The pants were pretty awful but the jerseys and helmet were fine given the majority of uni styles in the late 90's also look out dated by today's standards with the new sleek Nike uni's taking precedent over the bulky, poor fitting uni's/gear of yesteryear.

Arhur Brown is more of a developmental prospect then we originally thought. I still think Athur will be a good player for us but he needs time. As a starter this year Arthur would be a liability. Mosley is a day 1 starter, he's much more of a finished product already then Arthur .
Like I said in the other draft thread, teams ran the ball down our throat at times last year. Jameel, Bynes, and Arthur left a lot to be desired and we should have a higher standard for our starting ILB's heading into next year. Mosley is going to be real solid next to Daryl Smith and isn't going to be a liability. Still some good FS's on the board and we got a potential pro bowler in Mosley
