Have you seen the Seahawks little brochure they sent to UDFAs? I'd lean there. They give their UDFAs the most overall playing time in the preseason, which can help them make an impression on other teams if not the Seahawks.
How can they offer the most playing time in pre-season when they have no control over how much other teams play their UDFA's? lol. Sounds like a good sales pitch though, I would personally rather go to a team that desperately needs a player at my position and that I would want to play for. One of these kids is thinking they're going to shine in Seattle and make that crowded roster when in reality they will play good enough to get picked up by the Jaguars off waivers and regret not choosing a team they want to play for and who's roster they could've realistically made to begin with.
I love how many UDFA's chose the Seahawks or 49ers. Do they realize those are the 2 hardest rosters to make in the NFL? Did someone explain to these kids that their goal is to just make an NFL roster? Playing front runner isn't how you do that for the vast majority of them. Even if they play well in camp the odds are they won't make the 53 man roster and will get picked up on waivers by a team they have no control over.
Some of these kids just don't get it, they see an offer from the Seahawks and go "yeah SB Champions here I come" when there is basically no shot at cracking their 53.
Russel Wilson doesn't cost the Seahawks nearly as much as Flacco does the Ravens. Without a replacement for Boldin (which I don't believe we have on the roster right now) that contract is a huge waste of money. All that garanteed money just to have him hand the ball over to a RB. Great.
Flacco had a better postseason in 2012 then Wilson did last year. Only reason Flacco didn't have a good year last year was because of the injury to Pitta, K.O. getting injured, Gino being our starting Center, Shipley being our starting LG, Monroe learning a new offense mid-season with new teammates, Rice injury, couldn't run the ball from the depleted OL, defense dealing with departures of Ray, Ed,Ellerbe, Kruger, Cary and having to forge a new identity, playing 2 SS on the back end, defense couldn't get timely stops, Dickson and Dallas Clark were our #1 and #2 TE's all year, the cam cameron system was failing miserably because of the lack of personnel to run it properly... do I need to keep going?
This team had that litany of problems that made life extremely hard on Flacco, I can't imagine any QB having a good year under those circumstances. We got the Boldin replacement this year in Steve Smith + a legit #2 TE and have actually built up the defense through the draft and added some good depth in addition to getting an actual Center and countless key players back from injury.
Everything that could go wrong last year did.. and we still went 8-8. I find that actually kind of impressive when you look at how this team fell apart on so many levels coming off that rough offseason and injury bug going all year.
Flacco got a huge contract after he led us to the SB throwing the ball to Boldin and then we promptly traded away Anquan for peanuts. Two drafts went by, one with the deepest WR class in years another with Keenan Allen falling past us in the draft twice, and we have yet to adress the Boldin trade in the draft. Just like last year we're hoping, that the guys we have will fill in that role. I don't see it.
You don't need a franchise QB to play good defense and run the ball well, yet that's all the Ravens seem to be interested in doing. That big contract makes less and less sense to me.
All I have to say is Golden Tate, Jon Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse, Ricardo Lockette, Zack Miller, Luke Wilson. (Sidney Rice out for the year, Harvin only played in SB)
Defense wins championships, the teams that just outscore their opponent and still give up a lot of points on D don't win SB's (Broncos for the last two years, Patriots since they had their "dynasty defense" in the early 00's). What the Seahwks did do is run the ball effectively and that's something we're getting back to with Kubiak.. but most importantly they had a dominate defense and we appear to building one of our own after seeing this draft class. I would actually take our current weapons over the guys that got Russell Wilson to the SB and that we won a SB with in 2012. The last 3 SB winners haven't had potent offenses.
Torrey > Golden Tate
Steve Smith > Doug Baldwin
Jacoby = Jermaine Kearse
Marlon > Ricardo Lockette
Pitta > Miller
Daniels > Luke Wilson
2014 Torrey > 2012 Torrey
2014 Steve Smith < 2012 Boldin
2014 Jacoby > 2012 Jacoby
2014 Marlon > 2012 Tandon Doss
2014 Pitta ? 2012 Pitta
2014 Daniels > 2012 Ed dickson
Trading for Zuttah was like taking the best center in this draft class only we didn't give up a high pick to get him. I'm starting to think the "need" for a RT is over blown. If Wagner isn't looking like a starting RT in camp we'll kick out K.O. and plug a guy like Urschel or Jensen at LG. There's also the possibility of a serviceable veteran T or G getting signed. People are too hard on Rick Wagner as well imo, this isn't a "Doss" at his position who is never going to turn the corner. When Oher went out, Wagner had to come in cold off the bench to a game that had already established a rhythm and a feeling out process in the trenches. Then you add on the fact that he was a rookie and it was hist first live action in a regular season NFL game.. that's a really tough spot to be in.
Seamster could be the defensive equivalent to Marlon Brown this year, Ozzie isn't the only person I've heard who said the db's as a whole were especially weak this year besides the top guys who went early.. Guess we can't be too mad about not taking a cb if they weren't good value compared to other positions.
Ha ha. You see the thing you and all these other armchair GMs need to realize is YOU ARE NOT SCOUTS. Reading Mock drafts and Mel Kiper's big board and watching the odd Youtube video is not scouting. And then you guys get upset because we pick a name that you are not familiar with, that didn't catch your eye while reading a mock draft.
I know where your coming from. I posted that when I was still steamed about not taking Desir or Andre Williams. I actually like the Taliaferro pick a lot more after I did some more research on him. Big kid could be a good short yardage back for us, i would've preferred Andre Williams but Ill take it. Now that the emotions of the draft are over i'm just going to reserve judgement until we see how they actually pan out.
How did fans do a better job? The season hasn't even started, so how do you know which players will bring more production to their teams?
Because I as a fan can tell you Desir or Andre Williams was a better comp pick in the 3rd round. By a mile, it's not even close. Guys like Gillmore typically go late and are a dime a dozen. Both Desir and Williams were high upside guys at a position of need. Desir could've been a very good #3 cb and maybe even better as he developed. Just gross incompetence from our FO on that pick, come back to it in just a yera and you'll see what I mean. i don't hate Gillmore, I hate where we took him considering some rare talent was still on the board.
Steelers get Dri Archer and Martavis Bryant. Browns get West and Desir. We get a TE in the 3rd who would still be on the board now and a bum rb. Total incompetence to pick Gillmore that high, not a single TE taken in the entire 4th round. We could've had Andre Williams, a legit power back that would've been great depth and our short yardage back. Or Desir who would've competed for our #3 cb spot and been a good ST'er.
I'm blowing a gasket looking back at how we squandered that pick and absolutely fell on our face since the Terrence Brooks pick. I'm actually embarrassed, the Browns have drafted better then us in the mid rounds. All those quality rb's and we miss out on every single one. Shameful day 3, absolute failure every step of the way starting with our 3rd round comp pick. There's no way you can argue that Andre Williams wasn't a better pick at that point? When a fan can do the scouts job better then the scouts something is very wrong.
Steelers get Dri Archer and Martavis Btyant. Browns get West and Desir. We get a blocking TE who would still be on the board now and unecessary Dl and bum rb. Someone should lose their job over these mid rounds
When I look at what the Steelers and Browns did in the mid rounds im embarrassed at our pathetic haul outside of the top 3 guys we picked
Our scout for small school\late round picks should be fired for having the TE ranked so high.. missed on every RB now, shameful showing since Terrence Brooks
We also passed on Yankey for ANOTHER dl. I give our day 3 an F, this is comically bad
Could've had Andre Williams or Ellison to close the 3rd. I'm furious we squandered that pick when we have seriouz depth needs at rb especially. Guy we drafted isn't gonna cut it
Nah, there's still some decent WR's on the board... You just dont know it.
Depleted by our 5th comp pick, horrible, horrible, horrible day 3. Watched all the rb's fly off the board because we had to reach with our 3rd comp
Watch Ray Rice get suspended and Pierce get injured.. wheres our talented rookie rb? Oh yeah we dont have one because we decided to reach on a TE who would've been there in the 4th. We've been garbage in this draft since the Brooks pick
This is a shameful day 3.. missed out on every single good rb and wr this year.
Im livid the Browns got West and Desir. Where's our rb, wr, cb.. just going to ignor positions that needed depth? ESPECIALLY rb and cb and we come out with nada
Day 3 sucks.. literally every good player just went before our picks because we had to reach with our 3rd comp. Shameful, no wr or rb of significance to speak of
Not a single TE taken in the 4th.. we bombed miserably at the end of the 3rd. A the good players like Andre Williams and Desir are gone and we're stuck with a guy we could've got at the end of 4th in the 3rd. SMH, day 3 already looks like a massive fail for reaching in the 3rd. Browns take West and Desir.. makes me sick
Anyone else confused right now? We lost art jones, never had a fs, lost slot cb, lack future pass catcher then all of sudden we take a lb.
It's called BPA my friend. Also ILB was a very underrated need as well. Arthur Brown was still a potential liability heading into the season as a starter and Mosley is the definition of a plug and play, day 1 starter, just look at his pedigree as a 2 year captain under Nick Saban at Alabama.
Also look at how the board stacks at the positions you mentioned. Mosley was the only true stand out, 3 down ILB in the entire draft. WR specifically is still stacked heading into the 2nd and 3rd round.. we can still get Jordan Matthews, Moncrief, Latimer, Jarvis Landry, Davante Adams.. plenty of picks yet to be made before we start criticizing positions of need. One or more of these wr's in the mid rounds will be a stud like Keenan Allen was last year and that's why position plays a big part in draft value.
Let's all take a moment to be thankful that Lewan, Fuller, OBJ didn't fall to the Steelers. If the Ravens had swapped 1st with the Steelers because of the "Tomlin Incident" and took Mosley at 15 and the Steelers took Shazier at 17 no one would think anything of it.. I think we made out just as good as if the NFL actually made us swap picks.
Your right.... I am referring to players in NCAA 1A not DIII schools. Mosley was an OKAY college athlete. Show me ONE reason why he was more than average. ONE..... Just one stat where was better than most LBs... ONE!!!!! PLEASE!!!!
BTW....
Luck Kuechly
Patrick Willis
Ray Lewis
All had average college football stats right, and average metrics...... Oh and Shazier who is ELITE in EVERY measurable and had elite production in college AT EVERY LEVEL...
Oh and there is a BLUEPRINT for GREAT linebackers... to say there is not is naive.... Name one who had average metrics and average college production who ended up being ELITE... JUST ONE...
Again you cannot.....Its cool Ed_Reed20... this is the internet. Everyone is entitled to there opinion.....
Steelers fans don't even like the Shazier pick at 15 and a lot of them are saying they would've preferred Mosley or Dennard.. Top end speed isn't a key trait for an ILB. Much more important to have a good football IQ and instincts which is definitely in favor of Mosley. Mosley has some good wheels too, may not time as fast as a guy like Shazier but he has better intangibles at the position.
Arhur Brown is more of a developmental prospect then we originally thought. I still think Athur will be a good player for us but he needs time. As a starter this year Arthur would be a liability. Mosley is a day 1 starter, he's much more of a finished product already then Arthur .
Like I said in the other draft thread, teams ran the ball down our throat at times last year. Jameel, Bynes, and Arthur left a lot to be desired and we should have a higher standard for our starting ILB's heading into next year. Mosley is going to be real solid next to Daryl Smith and isn't going to be a liability. Still some good FS's on the board and we got a potential pro bowler in Mosley

Yeah that makes a lot more sense if it's based on stats from previous years. I though they were just using that as a sales pitch to see who bites. Definitely a good marketing strategy on their part to use those stats to draw interest.
