  1. Hester will unfoubtedly contribute more THIS year. Butler was promising but you can't use every roster spot for potential. Some of those spots do need to go to guys who can contribute right away.. Hester can do just that as a dynamic return man. One that can make potential game changing plays even at this stage of his career. We have plenty of WR's this year, Butler isn't better than Wallace, SSS, Aiken, Perriman and he can't return kicks. Even Chris Moore is of similar skill level as a rookie. Butler didn't fit our needs as well as Hester based on who we already have at the position.
  2. We're not getting older in any tangible way, he's going to be almost exclusively a ST player. Not to mention he still runs better than many young guys in the league, even if he's lost a step he's still a burner. We tend to play tight, field position battle type of games, especially in-division. Sometimes a big return is the difference maker, Jacoby has done just that for us in close games in the past.
  3. Love this move. No more worrying about who's going to return week in and week out. No more risking valuable starters on return duty. Also no more worrying about muffed punts and bad decision making, Hester returns kicks in his sleep, it's natural to him. Obviously this isn't vintage Bears-Era Hester but the guy can still make splash plays. Even though he's 33 he doesn't have a ton of mileage because he's never played major snaps on offense. This year is going to be fun, I think the team is going to really get a kick out of having a legend like Hester on the squad. Hester thrives in big moments, if we can get into the playoffs it just might awake some magic.
  4. Talib is exactly the kind of player who would put our defense over the top. Big dominant press corner with serious coverage skills and splash play ability on top of that. He gives WR's fits, not much of a fan of his antics but he's a hell of a player. Will never happen, but I can dream right?
  5. True. If Doom/Sizz stay healthy and Zadarius/Judon/Correa can give us some juice as situational guys things will be a lot easier on the secondary. Just worried about getting picked apart short/intermediate and having that rush neutralized. Seems to be how many teams look to attack our lack of a quality corners. Steelers, Bengals, Patriots can all spread us out and go to work fairly easily it's seemed lately.
  6. Please somebody cut a corner that can play. Why does this team refuse to have 2 competent corners for years on end now? We're a Jimmy Smith injury away from imploding on defense. Shareece Wright get's constantly picked on by opposing QB's as it is, Powers hasn't looked any better, Davis has potential but is still a question mark, Tavon Young is undersized to play on the outside despite a strong preseason showing. We haven't had a pair of good corners since 2012. There's a lot to like about this years roster but things will get ugly fast if Jimmy misses time.
  7. Anyone else a bit worried about Correa's weak preseason showing? I pounded my fist for both Myles Jack and Noah Spence during the draft and I was down voted by many on here. Both of whom look miles ahead of Correa (pun totally intended). I trusted Ozzie/Eric but I already have a sneaking feeling that we whiffed in the 2nd, especially with who was available. Jack's question is longevity and Spence's issue is substance abuse.. only time will tell if those prove to play factors. Look it's early, Correa was raw and sometimes really good players don't come on until their 2nd or 3rd season. I'm willing to be patient, fingers crossed that he ends up delivering.
  8. Guys like Dixon (among many mid rounders from previous drafts) are the reason you don't draft a RB in the top 5. While I still think Zeke Elliott is the best RB from this class it was a bad value pick by Dallas. Hope Dixon picks up where he left off upon his return. Easily the most impressive RB this preseason and has also received praise from Flacco. Just has rare insticts for the position that you can't teach, not the fastest guy but many of the best RB's aren't either. Vision >>> Speed.
  9. I don't think any LT in the league can consistently stiffle Von or Mack. It's more so about limiting their high impact plays, which can be done. Still super impressed with Stanley, I think he ends up being better than Tunsil. Better technique and foot work, Tunsil relies too much on athleticism.
  10. Just glad Dixon injury appears to be short term. Was super pumped about him since the draft, he's hit a set back but it looks like he'll be back in a few weeks. We still haven't even seen Perriman or SSS this preseason. WR is looking stacked and I never dreamed I would say that as a Ravens fan. Mike Wallace was definitely a big get for this offense, I see him being our leading wr this year.
  11. Financials aside I'm glad we didn't draft him. Seems like the type of guy who would leave after his rookie contract to go play in a big market. I think he's a very good football player but he has an ego and entitlement issue with where he wants to play (as displayed by his mom's comments). If her son was happy and excited to be in SD I highly doubt she would've made that comment, sound to me like Joey privately expressed his frustration with his family and they in turn are upset because he's upset.
  12. Really pulling for Breshad, seems like such a good dude. He's been through so much already, missing his rookie season, losing his close friend Tray, health problems with his Father, another knee injury in mini camp. Seeing him get on the field for the first time (hopefully this Saturday) will be emotional.
  13. I think on draft night just about all of us would've swapped Stanley for Bosa in a heartbeat. Now... I'm glad things played out like they did. Bosa may be partly in the right as far as financials but after comments made by his family it's clear that he isn't very grateful and only wanted to play for certain teams. Had we drafted him who's to say he wouldn't have held out on us or jumped ship the second his rookie deal was up. I still think he'll be a hell of a player but will have tons of baggage. Stanley is a great kid, he's a team guy, grateful for the opportunity, excited about playing here. Not only that but Monroe had one foot out the door, his heart wasn't in the game anymore if he was already thinking retirement at his age. I'm thrilled to get Stanley where we did in hindsight.
  14. I think because we've had our hopes up before with Rashaan Melvin and ended up disappointed. I agree, Price looks promising, we've just had such bad luck at corner lately it's hard to get excited about anyone this early. Also interested to see Canady when he get's healthy. Got good reviews early on and has ideal size as well.
  15. Impressive: Terrence West Kenneth Dixon Ronnie Stanley CJ Mosley Jeremy Butler Chris Carter Matt Elam Matt Judon Willie Henry Pierce Terrence Brooks Tavon Young (in limited action) Bad: Jerraud Powers Shareece Wright Wesley Clay Buck Allen (Carries were unimpressive)
  16. Biggest loser tonight is probably Buck Allen. Even with a TD he still got thoroughly out ran by West and Dixon. He's a pretty good back and only appears to be the 4th best on the team. Dixon missed time in camp and already looks like a stud, what a steal at the end of the 4th.
  17. I'll give em the benefit of the doubt. Webb is literally a wr who can play quarterback.
  18. West and Dixon are going to be a sick two-headed-monster going into the future. Might be Forsett's last season here. Dixon already looks so elusive, only going to get better which is exciting.
  19. Yeah that is actually my only concern from this game. Our corners aren't going to cut it against a healthy Steelers/Bengals. Not good.
  20. Been way more impressed with our depth. The 1st game of preseason means next to nothing for starters, all very vanilla looks and tenative starters who don't want to get injured.
  21. It's too bad Boyle is suspended, looking far more athletic than I ever imagined when we drafted him. We are loaded at TE and RB.
  22. I'd say Mallett is a solid back up. Better than a decent chunk of the league's #2's. Mentally he can be hit or miss but he can make all the throws and get the job done if need be.
  23. Only real area of concern is STILL corner. Nobody besides Jimmy has been able to step up there for seemingly years now. I really wanted Ramsey but am still very happy with Stanley.
  24. Ozzie hit the Stanley pick out of the park. Monroe had one foot out the door already last season, you don't just retire on a whim, clearly he's put a good deal of thought into this. Bet the coaching staff picked up on that vibe from Monroe and let Ozzie/Eric know his level of commitment to football was concerning. Best of luck to Monroe, I certainly can respect he's reasons for hanging up his cleats.
  25. I actually think the 2000 Ravens vs 2012 Ravens scenario would be close, not because the 2000 defense wasn't legendary but because the 2000 offense was beyond pedestrian. It would be a low scoring affair and the 2012 offense wouldn't need to do all that much, especially in the the type of form they were in during that postseason. They shredded the 49ers defense pretty good early in that game and that was probably one of the best defenses of the last decade. I would give the 2000 Ravens squad the edge but like I said, it would probably be close and I could see the 2012 defense putting the clamps on the 2000 offense.
