  1. Definitely possible now. We tried it with Torrey and Jacoby but they just weren't built for it. To run good screens you need a very elusive and quick twitch player like an Antonio Brown or you need a big frame guy who can slip tackles and accelerate quickly like an Alshon Jeffery. Torrey and Jacoby didn't have the elusiveness or the frame to shed tackles and get up the field. Perriman fits that 2nd mold, not that he will necessarily be as good as Alshon but with Trestman you can definitely see him in that role catching bubble screens.
  2. I see it a similar way. Worst case scenario I think he will basically just cancel out Torrey and be a guy who can stretch the field and make some splash plays. At best he's a Josh Gordon type and can be a true #1. It all depends on how hard he's willing to work and how good his mental game is, he has just as much talent and natural ability as any WR in this entire draft. At 26 I think that is too much upside to ignore, if he's in any sort of space he is breaking the first tackle, he has that Gordon-like frame that allows him to just run right through arm tackles. Usually when WR's have a frame like that they don't have the break away speed to pair with it. That's what makes guys like Gordon and Perriman freaks of nature, guys built like them rarely possess that kind of speed and quickness. Is he 4.27 fast on game day? No, but he can still turn on the jets out run any defender who doesn't have an angle on him.
  3. Black alternate C.J. Mosley and white away Jimmy Smith will be my next purchases, will also get our 1st round pick if it's a skill position player
  4. Crabtree doesn't have a clue and I'm not saying that because he didn't sign here, I fully expected him not to. But if you take a "prove it" deal you gotta put yourself in a position to produce more than you did last year. I like Derek Carr, I think he has a bright future, but that's just not an offense that is going to produce big numbers for a wide out. I mean that's a team that was in garbage time a lot last year and their top wr didn't go over 700 yds. He would be lucky to match his yardage total from his last year with SF that killed his market value.. I just don't see how the Raiders propel his mission to get paid in 2016. I think Miami was probably the best spot for him, he would be looking at a lot more volume in their offense with Wallace and Clay out of the picture. I mean Wallace was generally considered a failure in Miami and he still put up nearly 1000 yds in 2013 and 10 TD's in 2014. Crabtree's plan was clearly to put up numbers this year so he can cash in next offseason, the guy is chasing the money and I don't blame him for that but Oakland has to be one of the worst teams in the league for a wr looking to stuff the stat sheet even with an emerging Derek Carr.
  5. I think I would seriously consider a 3rd for Vernon. With Flacco he could enter into that truly elite tier of TE with the likes of Graham and Gronk. I think because of the offensive scheme and the QB's we haven't seen the full extent of what Vernon is capable of. The biggest issue with Vernon is just the uncertainty of him extending, it's a reason for the 49ers to move him but it's also a reason for teams to be be scared off from him if they don't get an extension set with Vernon prior to the trade going through. I know we traded for Monroe in a contract year but if we did have to give up a 3rd for Vernon the stakes are just too high to risk him not re-signing with us after the season. Getting a 3rd in this year's draft is definitely fair compensation for SF instead of having to wait until 2017 for the potential 3rd they would get via a comp pick if he left at the end of this season. Getting the extension lined up from the start is the biggest hitch in trading for him for us.
  6. Just saw that today we were linked to Crabtree as one of his top 3 suitors along with the Raiders and Dolphins. Typical Ozzie move, don't force the issue and put the ball in Crabtree's court. If he wants to come here at our price then great, if he wants to get more money on a lower tier team it's no skin off our back. I think we also want to see how the draft plays out, if we don't get a WR early we could likely get Crabtree after May 12th and he won't affect comp picks. http://www.csnbayarea.com/49ers/source-three-teams-show-most-interest-crabtree
  7. Luke Wilson, Mercedes Lewis, Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Lardarius Green Not top tier guys with the exception of Vernon but definitely some names in the realm of possibility. Wilson could be expendable for a mid round pick with Jimmy Graham there.. they have another TE in McCoy already, Mercedes Lewis is just treading water at this point in Jacksonville and they could always use more picks to bring in young talent, I think he probably makes the most sense. Lardarius Green's contract will be up by the time Gates is out of his way so they might prefer to move him for the right price, Davis has been long rumored to be on the trading block, Reed has under-performed big time in Washington and dealt with injuries.. he's kind of a "doghouse" type player and you get the feeling Washington has grown frustrated with him,
  8. I honestly think signing Housler with the notion he would be our TE1 had major potential to back fire. That appeared to be the plan at one point but obviously the negotiations fell through and a deal never materialized. I think the Ed Dickson comparison is valid, Dickson was fast for a TE and had no problem out running LB's down the seam but always had trouble just making the catch. Housler is that same kind of player, he can get open but it's hard for a QB to trust him to make a semi-contested catch on 3rd down or in a big situation at the end of a game. I think a trade is on the horizon. The odds of us coming out of this draft with a TE1 are extremely low. Gresham is still in play but with the slew of mid round picks we have I think the best way to acquire the quality of TE we need to run this offense effectively is via trade.
  9. Glad we missed out on Housler.. put's the pressure on the FO to get Gresham or trade for a quality TE. I really hope we don't trade up in the 2nd round for Maxx Williams, he's overrated because of how weak this TE class is.. he could be a good TE but he's not worth the early 2nd round price tag. Would rather draft elsewhere in the 2nd and maybe trade a 4th for an established TE like Fleener who is now behind Dwayne Allen on the depth chart. I think we regret not going after Daniels harder in hindsight, he was a good fit and had chemistry with Joe...now we're in an awkward situation with a depleted FA pool and a weak draft class at TE. Gresham or trade looks like the only options we're left with. The value just isn't there in the draft unless Williams somehow falls to our original 2nd.
  10. I wouldn't go that far lol. A healthy Gresham is an an upgrade over Daniels though, we could definitely utilize him better than Cincy did. I think if his medical checks out he could be a 700-800 yds, 5-7 TD type of guy in our offense. He hasn't cracked 500 yds the last 2 seasons in Cincy which is very underwhelming for a player of his talent but I think a change of scenery is exactly what he needs. I'm lukewarm on Housler at this point, if we're going to likely surrender a comp pick to sign a TE I would much rather pay more and get Gresham than take a flyer on Housler who has untapped potential but also has big bust potential. Of course this all hinges on Gresham's medical and interest from other teams but a lot of teams have already blown their "spending money" during the initial FA waves and are less likely to be active by the time Gresham is fielding offers. The draft is not a good option for TE this year, Maxx Williams is overrated because the TE class is so weak, not worth it at 26 and not worth trading up for in the 2nd. FA is really our only option, would've liked to have retained Daniels but Gresham could present a Dumervil type payoff where we are getting a really good player who normally wouldn't have been available to us. If Gresham didn't have his medical he would've been gone the first week of FA for money way out of our price range.
  11. That post you quoted is a month old, that same post was also mentioning signing Eddie Royal to give you some perspective on how far we were into FA. *sigh*
  12. That article is literally just a top 10 list of the available TE's... there isn't a word about it being a strong or even average TE class.
  13. We don't absolutely need "a WR", but we do absolutely need a playmaker at WR or TE. At this point finding a playmaker at WR is a heck of a lot easier than finding one at TE so...
  14. No there isn't, this is an especially weak draft at TE. Please don't just make things up
  15. Going to be ticked off if Cincy nabs Housler.. you come to Baltimore to compete for SB's, you go to Cincy to dress up like you're in the "Cats" musical and lose in the first round. If we don't get him I have no idea who the heck is going to play TE for us. I agree with pretty much every move we've made this offseason except for not re-signing Owen Daniels, still doesn't make any sense to me he was such a good fit.
  16. Agreed. Not only is he an upper tier backup but he's spent years playing in this system, he's thrown for 4000 yds twice in this system, he's seen nearly every type of coverage imaginable first hand in this system, he's had to make in game adjustments in this system, he's especially valuable to us in particular because of his experience in our system. Besides Kubiak and his offensive coaching staff you couldn't ask for a better resource than a guy like Schaub who had to know this system better than any other player on that Texans offense. Even if he never sees the field we are getting something in return for having him on our roster, how many teams can say that about a backup QB?
  17. RFA. Meaning other teams can make him an offer but we will have the opportunity to match. Since he has an original round tender and was a UDFA we won't receive any compensation if we don't match. I think he's pretty safe however, he's a failed drug test away from a lengthy suspension and it would take quite the offer for us not to match it. Big money offer + Big risk is typically something GM's tend to stay away from. If they pay him the big bucks to get us not to match they will be risking a lot for a player that would be considered "at risk" of a long suspension. For that reason Will Hill will very likely be a Raven in 2015. After he plays out his contract and stays out of trouble for another year is when he might have some big money suitors.
  18. Apparently it was a April Fools Joke.. he posted a broken link on twitter to a sqor page. He trolled everyone who's a fan of a west coast team. Guess that means the door is still open for him to land in Baltimore.. I just feel like the front office "likes our guys" and will only add a wr via the draft. Hopefully we can get a #1 type guy who falls through the cracks similar to Kelvin Benjamin going late first last year. I think Perriman or Strong could fit that bill.
  19. My money's on Seattle or it's just an April Fools Joke
  20. I feel the same way. We didn't over pay for Schaub, only in relation to our own cap space. Would've rather prioritized getting Housler finalized or another CB.. I like having a competent backup but I hope we left ourselves enough room to fill out some other needs before the draft.
  21. I was thinking it was a multi-year deal so the 1M would be distributed throughout the contract against the cap but since it's a 1 year deal we take the cap hit all at once.
  22. I doubt he will hit his playing time incentives with Joe's durability.. and if he does hit his playing time incentives then it's money well spent because that means we have a competent backup playing important snaps in Joe's absence.
  23. About as good as it get's for a backup. I think Schaub can push Joe in practice harder than Tyrod did and also be more useful discussing concepts/attacking different coverages because of his extensive experience as a starter in this system in Houston under Kubiak. If Joe were to miss time I don't think you can realistically ask for a better backup to keep things running smooth until he got back.
  24. Schaub would be an upgrade from Tyrod. If Joe were to miss time I would feel confident in Schaub playing game manager and at least keeping us afloat until Joe got back. I think a QB needy team will over pay for his services however just to have him in the fold. Plus I think Schaub wants to go to a situation where he can at least compete and be in the mix to start. Playing behind Joe is a back up role in it's purest sense, the odds of seeing the field are very low unless it;s a blowout.
  25. I thought it was a joke too. Head trauma doesn't just disappear. There's a reason he can't find work. A mild concussion that might sideline a regular player for a week or 2 will end Collie's season. Plus he's just not even that good of a player, It just frankly doesn't make any sense for us. He doesn't bring anything to the table that Camp doesn't already bring besides a down right scary medical situation. You realize he's in the CFL for a reason right? He couldn't get a roster spot in the NFL if he played for free.
