  1. CJ Mosley was the true DROY and will be a top 5 ILB in the NFL and we selected him after the Steelers selected Ryan Shazier, We also snapped up Maxx Williams right up from under them and they reached on an oompa loompa corner. The draft is a cruel mistress for all 32 teams at one time or another. Every single team passed on Arian Foster for all 7 rounds and now there's 31 teams who regret it. After round 5 or so the draft is a lot like buying a scratch off lottery ticket. More often then not you don't win anything, sometimes you win a something small, rarely you win something good, and once in a blue moon someone wins the freakin' jackpot. The Steelers were those lucky jackpot recipients in the form of Antonio Brown. The Broncos hit the jackpot with Terrelle Davis in 1995 and the Patriots hit the jackpot with Brady in 2000. If anyone in Pittsburgh knew he would be half the player he ended up being they wouldn't have waited until the 6th round to draft him, keep that in mind. They hit the jackpot that year, we got a dud scratcher like most teams do that late. It is what it is.
  2. Something I find interesting regarding the drop issue for Perriman in college is that it was never a big issue when Bortles was his QB. BP made the best plays of his college career with Bortles despite being a better player the following year with Holman at QB. A lot of the drops he was credited with while playing with Holman were some terrible throws, Gruden was noted as saying he had 14 drops on film but the truth his only 8 of them were deemed catchable and even some of those 8 drops were iffy because the ball placement was poor despite technically being "catchable". I think Holman's shoddy accuracy hurt Perriman's draft stock far more than people let on, if Bortles stayed another year I think he's a bonafide top 15 pick, BP was clearly a much improved player in 2014 despite the big step down at QB. When you see what kind of inconsistency and accuracy issues he was dealing with at QB it's an absolute testament to his playmaking ability that he finished the year scoring a TD in every one of his final 6 regular season games. Then in the bowl game he went for 9 receptions, 138 yds, and Holman never even looked his way on a play he was wide open in the endzone. From his combine presser: "As receivers we always knew the ball was going to be on time when Blake was there and it was going to be a great ball. With a new quarterback and a younger quarterback you had to make adjustments, as a receiver your job is to make the quarterback look good and no matter where the ball is thrown you have to try to go get it". Translation: "Justin Holman was garbage and I still had 1000+ yds and 9 TD's"
  3. Just sounds like just a bad knock on a fall, I have no problem if he sits out tomorrow if it's swollen. Either way I was very pleased with the reports I read about him. The drop and false start just sound like nerves, first day of NFL training camp is a big deal for a 21 year old and I can imagine I would have some anxiety at the very beginning too. Especially as a WR, a lot more racing through your mind than most positions. Sounds like he was flying around out there though, this kid is definitely a playmaker. After going back and watching film on him for the first time since draft season he was even better than I remembered. A strong arm QB like Flacco compliments his style really well. When Perriman had Bortles it put him in position to really make some special plays and I think he get's that back and more with Joe.
  4. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting concerned with Webb after the last 2 seasons performance and now failing the conditiong test. There is no excuse for a db to fail a conditioning test. I know the db's have a harder conditioning test than most but that is already a red flag for me, for him not to come into camp in shape and ready to roll after the criticism he took this offseason with the pay cut and all is concerning. Don't get me wrong, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Webb and his professionalism but I don't think I'm out of line by saying he needs to demand more from himself, it just feels like he's resting on his laurels at this point.
  5. Being a body catcher is detrimental to a guy like Torrey because his bread and butter is the 9 route. If a guy can work the short-intermediate it's not as much of an issue but when you're a pure deep threat like Torrey you need to be able to extend your arms and haul in the ball. Torrey was great at drawing PI's but the vast majority of his catches of 20+ yds came when he had enough separation that he could run underneath the ball and look it in using his body to facilitate the catch. Guys like Calvin, Dez, and DT will catch a much higher percentage of those deep balls not just because of their height but also because if the ball is thrown out in front of them they can extend their arms and snatch the ball out of the air only using their hands.Deep ball accuracy is tough for even the best QB's, the ball isn't always going to be pinpoint at 20+ yds and when you have a guy like Perriman who can attack the ball and use his hands to reel in the ball it's a game changer. I think the best catch Torrey every made was week 17 last year against the Browns. It stood out so much because it was one of the few times in his career Torrey successfully attacked a deep ball and made a play with just his hands. I remember everyone in the bank went nuts because it was such an uncharacteristic play from Torrey. 2:19 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBaG8MHUvbE
  6. Jamarcus Russell had a cannon. Arm strength doesn't mean much if you don't have the accuracy and football IQ to go with it. A lot of why Flacco is so effective throwing the deep ball is because he does a good job of picking his spots and putting the ball where either his WR can make a play on the ball or he can get the DB in chase mode so he can't get his head around to track the ball, usually resulting in a massive interference call.
  7. Maxx could definitely be in better shape but keep in mind people's body fat always shows more when sitting down. Plus he's a TE, they don't all look like Vernon Davis lol. Being back at the Castle where he can get healthy meals whenever he wants, lift, and run around in pads all day in training camp will probably do wonders for him. People think because he's really young he should be in better shape but for the big fellas it's usually the contrary. They aren't as in tune with their bodies like the vets are, they don't know as much as they should about nutrition, and they don't know what kind of weight room work they have to put in to make it through a deceptively long 16 game season (plus postseason in Baltimore).
  8. I'm not putting too much stock into the Broncos game win or lose. We do have some young guys and new faces that have never started for us before so we might have to work out the kinks a bit in that first game. More so on offense than defense, I can see Perriman and Maxx starting the season a bit slow and then finding their confidence in the offense as the season progresses. But hey, Torrey hit the ground running his rookie year and I think BP is more pro-ready so I won't be surprised if he lights it up from day 1.
  9. People are sleeping on Kendrick Lewis, I think this coaching staff has already penciled him in as the starter next to Hill. Yes spots are earned and not given but I think he's our guy at FS and it's his starting job to lose in the coaches eyes.
  10. Highly doubt it, we have a lot of young/quality WR's vying for a roster spot. We also already have SSS so there isn't really a need for yet another veteran with a limited shelf life. We're focusing on our young guys, the guys who we can establish now who can take us into the future.
  11. How has no one said Chykie Brown AKA Frank Walker 2.0? lol Chykie wasn't as bad as Walker in terms of constantly drawing penalties but they both had that deer in the headlights look trying to track the ball in the air that drove me to the brink of throwing my remote through my TV. - Don't think it's fair to put Kindle on the list, that freak accident severely damaged his ability as a football player - Lee Evans was a choke but definitely wasn't THAT bad outside of that one play - Every QB not named Joe Flacco or Steve McNair could make the list
  12. I think the plan is actually to have Hill at SS and insert Lewis at FS since he has more range and ball hawking ability. But the way we use our safeties I think Brooks will get on the field plenty this year and have a chance to show the coaching staff what he's capable of. Brooks will certainly figure his way into our plans long term whether that happens via losing Will Hill in FA (hopefully we lock him up), out playing Kendrick Lewis at FS, or converting to more of a nickel role and taking over for Arrington.
  13. That is extremely impressive when you consider we are small market like others have pointed out. Steelers ranking 14th was surprising, they're fans in Pennsylvania are die hard like we are but their "fans" around the country almost always have no ties to Pittsburgh and are just bandwagoners.
  14. I wouldn't be surprised Maxx he has a relatively quiet rookie season. He's still extremely young and needs some physical and mental maturing during this first year. Long term I think he will be an absolute stud but it's probably best we temper our expectations for his rookie season, especially with Crockett apparently raising his game tremendously as of late. Now I wouldn't be surprised if Maxx lights it up this year but I don't think it's fair to put those kind of expectations on him at his age. Perriman on the other hand I think will have an instant impact and I do expect that out of him.
  15. Definitely have to disagree with that. Pees isn't as aggressive with the blitzing as a Rex Ryan or Chuck Pagano but he is a top 10 DC in the league. Very intelligent, get's the most out of his players, consistently game plans well for opposing offenses. I thought he did a phenomenal job game planning especially for Pitt and Cheatriots in the playoffs last year. You can't blame Pees for our absolutely depleted secondary. Nobody's game plan stifled the Pats offense in the postseason last year as much as Pees' did and that includes Dan Quinn with far more to work with personnel wise and he's now a HC in Atlanta. When you look at the Cheatriots scoring drives in that game the fault was in the players execution and not the game plan itself. Ridiculous trickery that preyed on the inexperience of guys like Rashaan Melvin who had no business starting in a game of that magnitude at that point in his career and was forced to due to injury. Plus the absurd ineligible receiver plays that are now illegal and were next to impossible to predict and game plan for. Pees is over criticized by our fan base, people have a hard time separating player execution from the coaching/scheme. Guys miss tackles, blow coverages, or get beat 1 on 1, and somehow the coordinator ends up being the scapegoat. That never made sense to me. Pees is far from perfect, his lack of aggression frustrates me at times, but at the end of the day I'm very happy to have him in Baltimore and appreciate what he brings to the table.
  16. Absolutely, I've seen that he's from overseas so his perspective on a purely American sport is definitely going to be different than our own in a lot of ways and there's nothing wrong with that, it's awesome that he has a passion for the game and hopefully will continue to learn more as time goes on. I'm just giving him a hard time for being the constant contrarian on here, but hey to each his own. I've been watching Soccer closely for about 5 years and I'm still not "on the same page" as the lifelong European fans so I can relate. Doesn't mean I'm any less intelligent or committed to the sport, I just need more time to acclimate.. same can be said for Sami.
  17. Doesn't like Perriman? Pro Bowler. Likes the annual internet darling Lockett? Bust.
  18. Gut feeling is Carter get's the returner job and makes the 53
  19. Ozzie Newsome would only be my pick if there was a guaranteed honesty clause, I feel like even if you could spend a day with him there's a line he wouldn't cross as far as divulging information about the draft process. Assuming there is no honesty clause for our pick.. I'll go with Steve Smith Sr, I feel like he would be entertaining and have some good stories but also have important life lessons and insight to share.
  20. Still can't believe the Broncos traded for Gino, don't get me wrong he seems like a great guy and all but I wouldn't trade a turkey sandwich for him. Gino was a big reason why the offense struggled so bad in 2013, we had an open flood gate right at the heart of our OL, made running the ball and basic pass protection a nightmare. Once the scouting report was out that Gino was a weak link we got mercilessly blitzed right up the gut and had no answer for it.
  21. I almost burst into tears at the notion that Will Hill is competing with Elam for a starting job alongside Kendrick Lewis. That is not a "tight" competition. Can't figure out for the life of my why that was included in the article. Hill is one of the best safeties in the NFL, that is something I would expect to read on Bleacher Report, not the team's official website.
  22. It may only be practice but something about the Flacco to Perriman connection just seems so right. The way BP plucks the ball out of the air was something we rarely saw from Torrey even in practice. Not to turn this into a Torrey bashing post because I'll always be a fan of his and have a lot of respect for him but you can just see how much more naturally the position comes to BP. Torrey was a good athlete (former basketball player) who's best fit just happened to be at WR. Perriman is a true WR, he has the genetics, he has the build, he has the skill set. I'm glad his drops got over analyzed and exaggerated during the draft process or else he wouldn't be a Raven.. similar to Demaryius or Dez I think in hindsight people will look at this draft and say "How the heck did Perriman fall that far?". Our front office isn't crazy about taking WR's in the 1st, the fact that Ozzie & co. jumped all over Breshad when he made it to us speaks volumes about the type of player he is. It's been a long time coming for Flacco to finally have a WR like this.
  23. Just heard Harbs say that he now knows for a fact that Walker would've been taken early 5th if we didn't select him where we did. Really glad to hear that, he was the only pick we made that I thought we maybe reached on but apparently that wasn't the case. Walker didn't get much hype before the draft so he wasn't really on my radar but like every year there are players that are heralded in scouting circles that the media/fans don't really know about. I don't think Walker has a big impact this year but I'm very excited about his potential long term.
  24. I would agree with that. Crazy how pre-draft it looked like an area of weakness with Torrey departing and all. Can't say enough about the way we draft and scour the UDFA market for hidden gems. Turned a weakness into a strength seemingly over night. Perriman has big time potential, Waller looks like a player, and Carter or Worthy are going to make a serious push to make the team. We were all clamoring for the WR position to get upgraded after Torrey left and I think Ozzie & company have far exceeded our expectations.
  25. A big plus of signing Schaub is getting these young WR's/TE's quality reps in OTA's/TC/Preseason.. coaches can get a good look at them and not have to worry about poor QB play factoring into their performance. Preseason should be fun to watch, we'll get a glimpse of the Flacco-Perriman/Maxx connection and then in the 2nd half we'll have Schaub throwing to Waller, Carter, Worthy, Boyle, ect. should be able to get a good evaluation on the young guys because we have such a high quality back up.
