  1. I'd blame injuries to Wagner & Monroe before blaming Castillo as Yanda, Zuttah, and KO have all been decent.

Aside from Hurst, our backup O-linemen, Jensen and Urschel have also been solid (though Urschel needs to work on his shotgun snaps)

So, among the healthy guys, only Hurst has been horrendous.

Let's see what Castillo can do with 5 healthy, starter caliber, O-linemen

(if we can ever get them for him).

  2. We should reserve judgment on Clausen as it was only one game, and his first after just signing a few weeks ago.

As for the Chiefs, Pees is still here, Joe and 21 others are not (if Marlon gets IR'd, it'll be 22) and if we win, not only do we all but hand a playoff spot to the Steelers but we also hurt our position in the draft.

Under these circumstances, It's really hard to hope for a win.

  3. I don't get it.

If you guys like Garcon as a starter, then why don't you like Aiken as one?

They're essentially the same type of WR, only Aiken is a little bigger and younger.

No, Aiken isn't ideal at #1, but he's fine at #2/3 in a WCO with his size (that he plays up to), sufficient speed, toughness, and decent hands. (and yes, in today's NFL I consider a #3 to be basically a starter.)

Maybe Perriman can be our #1, though it would be a shock if he can be that good by next year.

Maybe SSS will come back and still play at that level in 2016. Or maybe we'll draft a true #1 (finally).

I'd be fine with Givens and Aiken as our #2/3 with Butler and D. Brown as depth.

That's not a bad WR corp, minus of course that crucial #1.

If we could get a true #1, that WR corp would arguably be the best that Joe's ever had (sadly).

  4. We've just had really rotten luck with all these injuries.

I just hope that Jimmy and Wagner can return to form from their Lisfranc's. Those are worse than ACL tears for pro athletes, especially at positions like CB;.

As for Monroe, hurt his knee and ankle in 2014, then had a concussion and injured his shoulder in 2015, with the shoulder landing him on IR.

Before in Jacksonville, he had never had such an injury history. So just more bad luck?

Zuttah had never been hurt either. Comes here and tears his pec this year.

Clearly, we need to look into our strength and conditioning program.

Don't know if that's the culprit, but this many injuries, especially to players who never had such histories warrants further, deeper investigation.

Because these injuries are not only killing our team this year, they're also killing our cap over the next few years, at least.

  5. Why is it that our WR's are playing MUCH better WITHOUT Joe? I know he has severe tunnel vision but jeez. It's like a whole different WR core now.

    With Joe:

SSS, Aiken, M.Brown, Campanaro, Waller, Givens, Ross, Perriman (DNP but still took up a roster spot)

    Without Joe:

Aiken, Givens, Butler, D. Brown, Matthews, Clay

IR: SSS, Campanaro, Waller, Perriman, M. Brown (might as well be)

    Cut: Ross

If it seems "It's like a whole different WR core now" that's BECAUSE IT IS.

Also, Aiken and Givens have both improved after moving up in the depth chart to our #1 WRs, as they've gotten more reps in practice and more snaps in games.

  6. Aiken has quietly, rather surprisingly, developed into a Pierre Garcon type of #2/3 WR who is ideal as a #3 working the middle from the slot, but because of his size and possessing sufficient speed, is not a liability on the outside as your #2.

He is better than a #4 and it isn't fair to him to think of Kamar as *only* a #3 either.

If Garcon is good enough to be a starter in the NFL, then so is Kamar.

  7. Don't give up on the Ravens fellas! We aren't going to let any team beat us down easy. We'll fight till the very end. That's the culture of the Baltimore Ravens! No matter the circumstances, we fight, fight, fight!

Yeah...but with Schaub or even Clausen at QB...

    Against Sherman, Thomas and co.

    Behind a makeshift O-line.

Probably throwing to tight ends fresh off the PS.

Maybe we can run the ball some?

  8. I want Mornhinweg gone.

Honestly, why is it so hard to find decent help these days? (at QB coach).

Bring back Zorn. He got along great with Joe and seemed to know his stuff being a decent ex-QB himself.

And with Cam gone there shouldn't be any more friction.

  9. Aiken has developed into an excellent #3 WR who can step in and be serviceable as a starter, even as a #1 if his OC gameplans to his strengths. Which we are seeing now.

Butler has the potential to develop into the same type of WR, and it's good to have those types of WRs for depth.

We are lacking a true bona fide #1 with SSS done for the year. But then we have lacked one since Mason was catching passes from McNair.

We really need to learn how to draft WRs, even if it means poaching the Steelers scouting department. They seem to draft quality WRs at will. i really wanted Martavis Bryant back in that draft.

  10. First you were disrespectful to me by responding to a tiny piece of a large post that I made, and making no argument whatsoever, just dismiss it by saying "this is hilarious."  How about you make an actual point rather than making a disrespectful one-liner with no reasoning at all to back it up?  Now you say this, but post nothing to prove your point, or even explain how you're right and I'm wrong.  How exactly did did Givens *NOT* overrun and missplay that ball?

    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2015111506/2015/REG10/jaguars@ravens?icampaign=GC_schedule_rr#menu=gameinfo%7CcontentId%3A0ap3000000579991&tab=videos

He never even beats House.  They are step for step the whole way, until House notices where the ball is going and makes a play on it while Givens doesn't and just keeps going.

OK, so at the 20 yard line, they're step for step.  At the 15 yard line they're step for step.  At the 10 yard line, the ball is being caught, while Givens is 3 yards upfield.  Watch it in game-speed on the video link I posted.  Givens just outright keeps running and never makes a play on the ball.  Why is it that the defender can look up, find the ball, and figure out how to make a play on it, but Givens can't?  The ball actually does get thrown significantly to the outside, where Givens should have had by far a better play on it than the defender, who was to the inside of Givens relative to the ball, but Givens, once again I say, doesn't play the ball, overruns it, and gives the defender a free shot to make a leap to the outside to go come down with it.

Because House is tracking and playing the ball the whole way, while Givens is focusing entirely on running his route and not paying any attention to the ball ASSUMING that it's been thrown further downfield and that he needs to race to that spot to make sure he arrives on time.

But this is common with most WRs, only the exceptional ones will look back and adjust more often than not.

Joe did make a poor throw. He'd been doing that all year because of his poor footwork.

So, really what were the coaches doing then. Why didn't they focus on fixing this flaw in Joe's game?

That to me has been the real issue: How come more heat hasn't been directed at Mornhinweg?

Thought he was supposed to be a top QB coach.

  11. Maybe we should keep pitta next year. These guys have a lot of potential but they've all been pretty banged up and been up and down all year. Now this? We know we can rely on Dennis.

If you mean rely on Dennis to blow out his hip trying to plant and turn upfield again, then yes, I agree.

We know we can rely on Dennis (to retire)..

  12. Am I the only one here that can't understand why our QBs don't seem to realize that Crockett Gillmore is a playmaker.

Everyone time he caught a ball from Joe he makes a play that involves one or 2 or more broken/missed tackles. But Joe didn't seem to make it a priority to find him.

Same thing with Matt Schaub. I can't understand it at all.

The kid makes plays and doesn't go down easy. What the heck??

    Our QBs understand this perfectly.

In fact, Joe relied so heavily on Crockett that opponents started double team jamming Crockett at the line to take him completely out of the play on every snap. The only time I can recall seeing that same tactic is when the Pats used it on Tony Gonzales when they played (and beat) the Falcons.

This strategy btw only works against you if you have no other receiving weapons that also need to be double covered.

So, maybe if Perriman had been available or SSS hadn't gotten hurt, Crockett would've been more productive.
