  1. I heard it said many times, but watching other teams play today it's easy to see why the game today is driven by the QB and the refs.

A lot of teams don't have outstanding offensive lines. Brady, Cousin, Dalton have all taken a beating today, but the offense still moves the ball and score points. They moved in the pocket, managed the offense at the line, and get rid of the ball quickly and accurately to beat the pass rush.

The other thing I noticed is how the ref are the ones that dominate the game. Too many drives get extended or killed based on a penalty. I saw a lot of contact fouls, roughing the passer, and holding penalties get called that affect the outcome of the drive and ultimately the game. The same refs don't see the helmet shots. Refs are not letting the players determine the outcome. Too many flags.

Unfortunately I believe Steve needs to realize it's both.

    Front Office fault

At the last draft Harbs described sitting back and watching OZ and DeCosta work their magic. That's leads me to believe Harbs a very little say in who get picked.

FO has never supplies the Ravens with talent at Wr position. OZ method is to rely on short-term old vets.

The offensive line has been a mess and he failed to retain guys like Grubbs, KO, Jason Brown.

At the same time he over paid Webb, J Smith, and gives Wright a contract (smh) If either of them were worth the money, the secondary would not be in the shape it is now. Weddle represents OZ continue approach of stop gap solutions instead of drafting and retaining young talent.

The team after 6th overall pick and 11 picks in total still lack a consistent pass rusher, depth on the o-line, and play makers. That has nothing to do with Harbs.

    Harbs fault

Harbs has failed as well. This team lacks discipline and toughness.

Every week he says the team needs to play smart , run the ball effectively, and be disciplined. Yet, every week we see the exact opposite. He explains what went wrong like its the players or coordinators fault.

Why can he tell Trestman or Marty to call more run plays?
He seems dependent on the coordinators instead of them following his lead.

Young players on John's watch never hit the field. Most don't seems to grow. Brown, Elam, Doss, and yes even Joe.

Joe still acts like he can't read a defense, call his own plays so he can stop blaming the OC, his fundamentals are not consistent.

So what does John bring to the team if he can oversee the development of his QB?

Steve needs to add a new perspective to the draft, scouting, and contracts. He also should start looking for a new head coach that can help develop players, revive the physical style of play that works in the AFC North, and adds expertise to the offense or defense.

you sound like you read the "Cleveland Browns Way To A Great Team" manual.

LOL right out of my mind after reading that post. HAH

I think both of you have blinders on to not see the amount missed drafts that OZ has done in the last few years and Harbs coaching decision has cost the team wins. There a reason why they 8-15 so far over the last couple of seasons.

  4. Killer Instinct? More tough talk and spin. We lost to a 1-5 football team.

If we beat the Steelers then confidence is restored and along with hope.

If we lose, no matter how close a game, then that's 5 in a row and call for more changes.

If Steelers come into M&T and lay a beat down on the Ravens, then someone's on the chopping block .

Until Joe plays better, the Ravens don't stand a chance.

It starts with Stanley, Lewis, Urshel, Ducasse, Wagner on the line.

Hurst, Jensen, and Zuttah are getting Joe killed.

  5. Ravens look like they suck as a whole right now. Sad part is if we had any QB play this year, we could be 7-0...............But Joe really looks like the worst QB in the league this year. Can't believe I'm saying and think that, but I really think it's true. Big time bummer, and I have a feeling the Ravens aren't gonna do anything about it

I think a lot of QBs play poorly the year after knee injury.

However, Joe was never the QB that you wanted to put the team on his shoulders.

He was never the leader to get guys to play better

His contract limited the front office ability to keep guys like KO (I wonder if they are second guessing themselves since Joe gets beat up and the middle of the o-line is as soft as butter)

Joe is best with a strong run game and good to great receivers around him.

The Joe contract limited the players they could keep, but these poor drafts are their own doing.

They need a new voice in the room. This formula is not working.

  6. My biggest concern is whether or not Steve realizes how a football he has. At the last State of the Ravens, they acted as if they believed

The Suggs absence was the downfall of the defense
Injuries on the offense were the cause of its poor play.
He stated the need for consistency and belief in John.
Steve also bragged about having two GMs in Eric and OZ.
OZ admitted the past drafts were below standard
DeCosta mentioned the 4th round will define this team for the future

At the time, I thought ok these guys looked in the mirror and will do better this year.

I was disappointed during the draft since I thought more emphasis would be on pass rushers, CB, Safeties, but they drafted Correa (ILB), Kafusi (DE), Henry (DT) and mid round CB and pass rushers, Wrs.

I wonder if they will state more excuses or realize that they need to change.
I fear Joe's play will be the 'goat' but it much deeper than that.

  7. My five thoughts are opinions on how to fix this team

    1. Enough of this ‘Analytics’ and quantity approach to drafting players. It’s not working. Pick the best player available even if it means giving up some picks. DeCosta has been very influential in the past draft. These poor draft are on him and OZ. I don’t think it’s as simple as replace OZ with DeCosta.

OZ tends to rely on old cast off to carry the team. That is not a formula for sustained success. He also, blows up a Super bowl roster

You don’t fire OZ, but he needs to take a lesser role in personnel. They need fresh insight and better scouts

    2. Fire Castillo. The offensive line has been terrible since he got here. The one exception was the Kubiak year. That unit has been terrible. The style of linemen is embarrassing.

    3. Get back to smash mouth football as your bread and butter identity. Recall the pieces and style your Super bowl teams had and get those type of players. They have some of the pieces but the style of play is bad

    a. A bruising FB to help get short yards
    b. Run first offense with big plays off play action
    c. Bullies on offensive and defense lines. (Run the ball, Stop the run, get to the QB)
    d. Speed at Wr
    e. Good return guy
    f. Hard hitters up the middle of the defense (DT, ILB, SS)

    4. Fire Harbs. The players are obviously not buying into his rants. In fact, he lost the team in the Super bowl year. Only Lewis returning got the team back focused.

They need an X and Os coach that can make adjustments in game and not a guy that is at the mercy of his coordinators because he can’t step in and call plays. Also, they need a guy that can get a staff to develop these young players.

    5. They might want to try a former Raven to be on the coaching staff as an assistant. I was very disappointed that they did not reach out to Reed to coach.

They need a Raven player that’s been there and done that to teach, evaluate and coach up guys. An most importantly, someone they will respect and listen to.

Not saying they can get a Ray Lewis. But a Jarret Johnson, Bart Scott, McCray, Starks, Boulware, etc.. to help really teach these guy what it means to ‘Play like a Raven’.

  8. bye week will not help when u have the same pathetic roster drafted by oz and co.. it is decosta time

    It's Decosta's 'analytics' that's picking these players.

I remember Harbs on draft day talking about OZ and Decosta's draft process like Star Trek.

I thought to myself when you have the 6th overall draft pick and 11 picks in total, its not Star trek, its best player available.

    What did they do:

Wait until the 4th round to get a CB and completely ignore the safety position when their secondary was a mess

Spent another 2nd round draft pick on an ILB that can barely get on the field

Double down on big slow DTs in a passing league

Then after draft bring in guys over 30 and wonder why the team lack playmakers.

  9. The Good

Tucker is money. Nailing it in the wind on long distance field goals

Judon stepped in and made some plays

Another FG block. That special team line is outstanding

    The Bad

This offensive line is offensive. Absolutely SOFT. No push in the run game, poor pass protection. pathetic

Another receiver running through the secondary like a hot knife through butter

No fire on any of the guys faces. They expect to lose

    The Ugly

Joe looks terrible. I know QBs after knee injuries struggle the next year , but Jeez.
He looks terrified and shell shocked
The throws in the dirt are embarrassing
    His Nonchalant attitude is unacceptable

See what Mallett can what? Didn't we already see that last year and in Houston?

Yeah there's a bright idea. Lets put a less mobile, highly inaccurate, historically poor decision making QB behind a bad Oline and "lets see what happens".

Hint: we already know. Nothing to see here.

And yes, it CAN get worse.

Why get your starting QB hurt at this point? Joe looks like a deer in headlight. Not stepping into throws. He's done for today.

  11. No worries. Heads will roll after another below .500 season. Front office thought missing the playoffs was a blip last season. That consistency was better. Now this team consistently makes mistakes, makes every team look like a contender. It's both sides of the ball.

Their 3rd receiver ran through the secondary just like OBJ did just last week.

I think some of these wimps will get hurt just not to continue to embarrass themselves.

Where is the fire? The emotional?

Last week I posted this team is soft and I see nothing to change that opinion. Time to blow this up

  12. IDC about Big Bens injury or ither division teams stinking..Ravens lose today season over....

And fact they keep sitting a guy like Stanley just shows how incompetant harbaugh is. Any other player practices they play. Coach horrible is the worst

I agree. Whomever is out on the field needs to play well. 4 straight losses can't happen and you consider yourself a playoff team. That is just wishful thinking. I want to see improvement. Who digs deep with starters out?

  13. 5 things to watch

    1. Will the offense play beyond the first quarter?

    2. Which young guys step up? Ravens need Judon, Z Smith, Young,Dixon Moore, Correa, Perriman to start making plays

    3. Who wins in the trenches? This could determine the outcome of the game. The offensive line has it work cut out and the defense needs to watch Geno and Forte running the ball.

    4. Will the Ravens play smart or continue to beat themselves? Dumb coaching decisions and penalties have killed the Ravens

    5. QB play. Joe needs to out play Geno no matter who's injured. At some point Joe has to be a factor in winning games instead of a guy the flock provides excuses. His play has been average and the Ravens are 3-3. The Ravens will go as far as he takes them.
