I can't believe Downing when he says Ravens are impressed with Jah Reid. He looks terrible. Almost got Schabb kill and not fast enough to play tackle. Ravens still have questions and receiver, returner, and depth on D-line and RT, and Pees bend but don't break style make Colt McCoy look like a starting NFL QB. It's the scheme. The secondary is not that bad talent wise.
1. Its either the coaching or the players, but the secondary looks terrible? These are supposed to be the guys that are better than the ones who could not hold two 14-points leads against the Patriots. Players off the ball 8-10 yards then missing the tackle. Pees is concerned with giving up the big play but playing off so the offense can get chunks underneath isn%u2019t any better. (Arrington, Lewis, and Vaughn are not as bad as they appear in this scheme) I see this too often in the Pees scheme. Matt Weiss is the CB coach. Ravens need to do better there. Secondary guys are not developing. Only the PR machine on the site will hype those guys. Ravens Play cover 2 and press the receivers
2. Injuries. Hope starting O-line and D-line are intact. Injuries are depleting a once fierce line up of D-linemen. Hope Jernigan and Tyson are ready game 1. Jah Reid almost got Schabb killed. Why is this guy still around?
3. Growing Pains. Allen, Walker, Z Smith. Potential, but not ready yet. They will be up and down since they are young.
4. Time to watch the waiver wire. Get a veteran receiver. Joe needs another reliable target other than Smith Sr. The offense tanked once he was ejected. Will Perriman be ready Game 1? Get a veteran to mix in with the talent
5. Emphasize some strength: TE group is good. Gilmore is a monster to guard, Boyle and Williams are raw but have playmaking ability, front 7 is fierce, Flacco and Foresett look sharp. Weaknesses can be fixed. Get a vet receiver to let young guys develop and Pees please stop prevent style of defense. J. Smith, Webb, Arrington, Lewis, Hill, Vaughn, Walker, Levine, and Brooks are good enough talent in the secondary but you can%u2019t tell in this scheme..
The biggest challenge this team faces is all of the injuries. Ravens are constantly throwing in new combination of O-linemen, DBs and the lack of continuity shows in their play. Perriman and Flacco needed to get down timing, O-linemen needs to gel with RBs for effective running game, an established returner could practice setting up blocks, etc.. All of this starts with injuries. The Second problem is a lot of young guys. There will be a lot of growing pains with so many rookies and second year guys. I think this is why the second unit looks bad. There are made of rookies while other teams had veteran backups (i.e. Colt McCoy vs Beyer). Health is key and will help young guys play beeter when reps with veterans.
Hard to be positive after watching that game. First sign of return game potential, #1 vs #1 Ravens looked dominant, Hopefully Jernigan is not injured.
I can't wait until the game tomorrow so I want to throw out some positive energy. 1) Perriman will be back at some point this year since MRI was normal. 2) our receiver and TE and mostly big guys with gives Joe a lot of mismatches over the field. 3) Our pass rush is still fierce Even in the Philly game where they threw the ball quick, there was pressure. 4) Safety position has been upgraded and more prove depth at corner with Arrington and Vaughn 5) Oline is strong with backups that could start on other teams (i.e. Urshel, Jensen, Hurst). 6)Immediate impact from rookies Smith, Allen, Davis, Waller, Walker all show some potential. Relax - We're good!
I think Perriman will be back at some point. I also expect Ravens to get a returner or Wr after cut to 75. Ravens are snake bit at receivers in the 1st round. We don't have speed at receiver but we do have size.
It is a good move to lock this guy up since Elam is out has still trying to prove himself.
So, which round should be good to draft Kamar Aiken?
I think he was an undrafted guy originally with the Bills. He seems to be a better more reliable guy than Campanero who was our 7th round pick. Undrafted diamonds are fine, if they develop, but Ravens need some of their drafted guys like Elam, Brown, Perriman, to work out.
I think Raven should or probably are looking for a speedster to add to the roster. What could be troubling is if after a month of waiting , they determine some type of procedure is needed which will take him out most if not the rest of the year. If it was just swelling, it should l be getting better. It's disturbing when your late round, old vets, and undrafted guys are more reliable than guys you draft in the first 3 rounds (i.e. Orr, Aiken, and Marlon Brown now have been more dependable than guys you draft like Elam, Aurthur Brown, Webb, Campanero, Perriman?. Ravens can't afford 2 out of the last 3 first round picks not to pan out. whether it's due to injury or their play. Too early to tell for Perriman, but I really hope he can play this year.
I like Waller since he is a mismatch and can win 50/50 balls. I need to see more of Butler. Camp and Webb are too injury prone. I feel like other guys mis out on making the team and being able to retain due to salary cap. Meanwhile Webb pulls 6-8 Mil a year and either gets exposed on the field or injured.
I like the fact of Flacco setting a high bar. I think a healthy Ravens team is the best in the division. I am not worried about Webb since I think Melvin and Arrington are better. We do need Perriman to stretch the field. I really hope Raven keep Waller cause he, Brown and Gilmore are mismatches in the Red Zone.
Some guys may have NFL talent, but not NFL bodies. Camp seems like he can't go 2 games without needed time off, Webb is always injured (knees, foot, back).. A lot of non contact injuries from those guys. Due to injuries , guys like Magee and Nelson could make the team. I like what I've seen from Nelson as a receiver and Magee was running hard last game. Ravens may also pick up a guy after cuts for depth.
Every team is going to line their best receiver against whoever is playing opposite of Jimmy Smith. That side of the field will need help regardless cause outside of J Smith, I don't think we have a CB that can match up against the Brown, Aj Green, D Thomas that we will see this year.
I agree that it wasn't cheap or illegal but you just shouldn't go near Sam Bradford's legs in a preseason game. Just don't.
Then Chip should not put his QB at risk in a preseason game. Whether your Bradford, RGIII, KAP, Cam, you do not want to be a QB trying to run the ball against Ravens
The Suggs Hit was perfectly legal. It is not a LB's or any defenders responsibility to protect your QB. If he went High, they would say he's head hunting or stupid for drawing a flag. If he goes low, he's obviously dirty. NFL does not want QBs hit so why run the read option play where it is legal to hit the QB like a runner. When are the other teams going to realize that when you see a Raven on the field, it is a bad Omen to run with the QB?
As far a Authur Brown is concerned, keep in mind D. Smith is north of 31 years old which means they may consider keeping both. I don't think the returner Ravens want is on the roster. Asa and Campanero have struggled with injuries. Camp is too valuable in the slot.
Magee stock went up in my book. Keep in mind he performed behind a make shift oline. I expect Wr Nelson and Daniel Brown to make Practice squad. Waller is that diamond in the rough. I think he has a high ceiling.
Understanding this is pre season but : Just appeared team had no focus esp Joe in the first half . Almost as if they were just going through the motions . Like times last year receivers could not get separation . We must have a deep threat or we might not even make the playoffs let alone SB . Quite a surprise for a team that practices intensely and has so much talent but again its pre season and they've been away from home for almost a week ?
I think guys like, Aiken, Brown could be solid target but the they are not explosive. Torrey and Jacoby added explosiveness to the team. Torrey also had a safety shadowing him and Jacoby could return a kick at any point in the game. Defenses love when their safeties can roam without worrying about getting beat deep. This offense without Perriman or some other deep threat will struggle. Aiken and Brown caught passes and Foresett dominated last year cause defense were backed-up with Torrey on the field so Aiken or Brown could squat in the open areas and Oline did not see as many 8-man fronts. We need a deep threat to make offense work.
1. I give Flacco a pass tonight. great defensive play and one poorly thrown ball does not erased what we've seen all offseason. 2.) Defense looks bad in both games. They struggle with hurry up offense and speedy receiver. That's basically the Steelers and Bengals. It must improve 3.) Injuries, Injuires, and more injuries. Usually 3rd game teams play up to the first drive in the 3rd quarter. With all the road games coming up, Ravens may want to rest guys. 4) Some guys cut themselves. Carter cut himself tonight. 2 weeks of muffing kicks, not soundly catching the football, Jensen too many penalties, backup Oline killed any attempts to sustain offense. Why keep Asa (can't cover, can't stay healthy, average returner at best. Don't let a good player go to keep him, Did Butler even play tonight. he has not shown anything special during games 5) Keep Magee, solid one cut runner (Hope LT is OK), and get a returner even if you trade.
Yes, it's the preseason ,but there are trends that are concerning. Where are the big plays in the offense? You can see the importance of having KO and Yanda on the field. Lack of return game. I wonder if Ravens should eat up a roster spot for guys like Jackson, Carter, Nelson who has shown nothing in the return game. That was once a big strength with Jacoby and now looks missing. Camp or Webb are guys they need to play healthy. Defense has looked bad in both games. And too many injuries. Only positives were the paly of Magee and Vaughn.
I am becoming more and more concerned about injuries with this team. Our deep threat Perriman has a genetic knee condition which get worse as he runs fast (WTH), Campanero our best slot receiver and returner has had trouble staying healthy, KO has an Achilles, and Wagner a foot . I'm not going to mention Webb becaue in my opinion, there are better corner on the rosteer than Webb and he is almost always missing games. Ravens needs to add a burner and a vet oline guy just in just these guys can't make it through the season. Would not be surprised if Perriman is PUP and KO is IR'd. JO retired a little early due to a 'toe' so Achilles, foot, and knees can't be good.
Let Waller and Butler start next games. There is no reason to risk Smith Sr, Aiken, or Campanero. Games to should be backups and bubble players. Give them every opportunity to prove themselves.
Another injury. We need a healthy Oline
Lewis, Reed, Ngata, Suggs... Williams? Another addition to Ravens Mount Crushmore. Ravens have a legacy of great defenders. Jernigan and Mosley are also making names for themselves.

Asa is simply the best returner on the roster (right now). There are more reasons to cut him and keep a Magee (who has out-played Buck Allen to this point) or Butler than to keep him. Bad CB, injury prone, poor tackler. I hope Ravens are looking at the waiver wire come Tuesday and someone becomes available. Injuries have challenged depth.
