CINCY 37 RAVENS 17....unless something changes ! Prove me wrong ! Go Maalox, Go Ravens !
How are you going to predict Cincy to blow out the Ravens then put Go Ravens? SMH
Of course this is a must win game. Players and coaches need to realize that. 0-3, 0-1 in the division with a road trip to Steelers. This is a game where you have to make the play when you have the opportunity. Not going for it on 4th down in your own territory, no turnovers, costly penalties, great running game, give Joe time. It will be interesting to see who steps up in front of the home crowd. It's time and long over due to beat the Bengals.
When your front office misses on draft picks and then let go of other players, eventually you become a crappy team. Elam =bust, Cody=bust, Kindle=bust, Torrey=let go, KO=let go?, A brown=bust, Perriman=??,Oher=bust, Rice=let go, although on decline, Upshaw=solid but no pro bowl just a run stuffer at OLB. This is just since 2008. When you miss on 1st and 2nd rounders and can't retain the solid players, eventually you become a bad team. After 2000, we start letting guys go and it took 12 years to get back. I hope this isn't a repeat.
During the offseason when the receiving core was being hype as deep in talent and tough cut would need to be made. I said either the receivers are legit or our secondary has not improved. Webb is a liability on the field and against the Cap. I still can't understand on 3rd and short , our CB are 7-8 yards off the ball. It's every week for the past 3 years. SMH
1. Ravens new weapon is Gilmore. Trestman has to be more creative to get him the ball
2. Coordination is a big problem on this team. Offensively and Defensively. Raiders defense is terrible so I expected Ravens score about 30 points
3. Too much talent on defense to consistent lose games at the end. Bengals, Patriot, Broncos, Steelers, and now Raiders. Pees is not a closer. Even Harbs pointed out how bad the Ravens are end of half/end of games
4. I'll get negged but it is what it is. Front office mistakes are showing. Ravens are overpaying the wrong guys. Rice got a big contract then was on the decline. to boot you cut him as a PR move and had $9M in dead money (who couldn't you extend because of that $9M), Webb had one good season then got a top CB contract, Pitta busted his hip and you gave him a long-term contract (sorry I love him but not smart), Monroe is no better than Oher . Yet Boldin, Pollard, Torrey, Jones were let go for a couple Million here or there. Add to that not having recent top draft picks not working out (Kindle was supposed to be young pass rusher, Cody run stuffer, Upshaw (JJ role), Elam (bust), Brown (can't beat out a 32 yr old in his 3rd season.
5. Young guys need to grow and leaders need to get team fired up. I wonder who will push and who will folder under the pressure
1. Does anyone REALLY think this team can beat the Bengals?
2. Does anyone REALLY think this team can beat the Steelers after what they did today and will have Bell back?
3. Did we just watch a defense that was a little full of itself after playing bend but don't break against noodle arm Manning and thought they had the talent on the outside to play man coverage?
4. Anyone that discounts Suggs role just needs to know that he usually draws double coverage allowing others to create pressure. Without him it's hat on a hat blocking and we suck.
5. All that said, if we can put toghether an offensive perfomance like today's and get Perriman back, and get our humility and focus back on defense, we can still be an amazing team worthy of being inheritors of the black and purple of Lewis, Reed, Suggs and Ngata.
Quick Hits -- this isn't your thuggish, hittem hard and take no prisoners Ravens team of old. I fear those days may be gone now.
1. Yes, because they are the Bungles 2. No 3. Yes 4 Agree 5. Agree.
A few questions came to mind watching the game. First, is it the Xs and Os or the Willie and Joes? Ravens drafted defense in the first 3 rounds for 2 years straight, yet there pass defense stinks for the last few years. Even Harbs during the preseason said "We haven't stopped a 2 minutes situation in 8 years" Is the front office slipping? Since 2008 missed on Kindle, T Cody, Elam, A. Brown, Upshaw hasn't live up to expectation, Webb is overpaid, Monroe is overpaid. When 1st and 2nd round guys don't pan out , the young talent level slips. Diamond in the rough are go add-ons, but aren't enough to win consistently. Ravens are consistently against the CAP , but where are the difference/playmakers?
They let Oakland roll them for 37 points. What will Ben and Dalton do with AJ Green and A. Brown? How about Rivers, Palmer? Defense looked good last week cause Manning wasn't trying/capable of taking shots down the field. Even if Ravens scored a TD, with over 2 minutes, I felt like Raiders was going to at least tie. I just want to see improvement week to week. 33 point should be enough.
Hopefully Suggs is able to go spar with Skip again and knock Skip down a few pegs. Nobody can take on Skip as well as Suggs and expose him for the big mouth fool he is. Suggs may not be able to physically play but he can still hands down outwit Skip mentally any day of the week.
Who in the hell is Skip Bayless? He has no more qualification to rate QBs than my lawn guy (reference 1984 draft)
Keys for Ravens are No turnovers, good play by D-line and O-line, start fast
It's too early in the season to predict what are the good or bad team. In 2008 no thought the Ravens would be in the AFC Championship game with a rookie QB and new Head coach and 2007 losing season. Who knows where the Raiders will be as the season continues. Ravens just need to start winning games.
The Biggest problem last week was questionable offensive game plan. Ware is an all pro and you leave hurst, an undrafted rookie to block him with no help. Joe did not have time to look for receivers. Also, you have a 6'6" TE and do not scheme ways to get him one on one.
He's a mismatch. Just get him the darn ball.
Watching KC vs Denver I realized those two (Ware and Miller) are going to be a nightmare for every oline as long as they are healthy. Monroe or no Monroe, that game plan that did not include draws, slants, hurry up, would not have worked anyway. Kubiak was a great in-game play caller. I need to see that from Trestman. Raiders will try the blitzing at home with crowd noise. Ravens must be prepared. I think having Jernigan back is a huge boost. Jernigan, Davis, Williams will dominate the line of scrimmage.
What impressed me the most was the sure tackling in the secondary. Also, adjustment at halftime when coaches must have realize Payton can go deep with any zip on the ball. D-line did a great job of stuffing run
Ravens played one of their worst offensive games ever and still almost be a Superbowl contender on the road. Crocket catches the ball and the feeling is a lot different. The offensive line got dominated. It's that's simple. No need to question Joe as a QB, coaches, or front office. Raven got Jason Babin to add depth and pass rusher so let's see what the team can do.
1.) Offensive line was supposed to the strength of the team. Returning 5 starters but they were the worst unit today. Pass protection and Run game struggled. Must learn how to beat the blitz 2.) hard to gauge effectiveness of receivers. With the pressure Joe was getting , it may not matter who was out there. We've seen this even with Torrey and Jacoby. Must learn to beat blitz 3) Excellent Run Defense 4) Secondary will be tested especially if we need to blitz to get pressure. Can't wait to see how we are against Steelers and Bengals 5.) Injuries. I've seen more non-contact injuries in the NFL lately. Ravens can't take too many more.
Defense played great. Suggs out for the year is a major blow but it will give opportunities for Z. Smith to step in. This year will be all about how well young guys can contribute. I have to mention that last play looked like face guarding PI to me. It appear he made contact and never turned his head.
Football just started....the Pats beat the Steelers. What could be better? Then there is the loser/whiners like yourself still going on and on about stirred up media crap. Brady is a fine person with a wonderful (well earned) life, and one of the greatest football players of all time. A 6th round draft pick. We want to get Brady and the Patriots? We, and all the rest of the teams in the NFL, do it on the football field like men. Hit them where it hurts not by running your sour-grapes mouths. They are the Champs....show some respect and some class. Go Ravens!
Another internet tough guy and closet Patriots fan. Nothing you said takes away from the FACT! that they have been repeatedly caught cheating. You heard this type of crap from Montana, Marino, Favre, Bradshaw, etc... that's how you earn respect.
Ravens need to play up against Broncos receiver and Safeties be disciplined. I don't think Manning will push the ball deep often. Talib will be on Smith Sr. so it's will be interesting who steps up for Flacco. Throws to the back and TE will be huge. Contrary to poplar opinion nationally, I like the Ravens in this one.
How arrogant is the Patriots organization really? After the drama with regard to spygate, deflategate and so forth, now these cheats have a new gate - Headsetgate! Unbelievable the amount of desperate measures these guys step down to just to eke out a win. Where does this leave the league if one team, a single team with no regard to sportsmanship continue to do these things! Wow!
What sickens me is how Brady is celebrated for having the judge over turn the suspension. Lost in the shuffle is the fact that once again the Pats cheated and got off without proper punishment. No suspension at all is ridiculous. Tuck Rule, Spy gate, deflategate, the 4th down incident with Cundiff, etc. Patriots motto "If you ain't cheating you not trying"
AFC North games are often a field position battle especially in the cold months. Trying to score TDs or 80-yard drive is tough . The big play on offense and Special teams returns are critical. It's an edge in a competitive division to have a guy that can flip the field.
Good trade. Jensen, Urshel, Zuttah all can play center. getting a pick for an UDFA is good.
The Crock!
He never said the Ravens were impressed with him at left tackle. He was talking about his performance throughout training camp, and the Ravens have been impressed with that, and so have some reporters. Last night, he was playing out of position, and he struggled, and Downing mention
He starting at RT and was getting beat then moved to LT and it got worst. He's been on the roster for 4 years and undrafted guys like Hurst and Jensen beat him out for playing time. Not impressive at all from a 3rd round pick.

It's troubling how this current version of the Ravens defense lives off the reputation of the past. The past few years, the defense has been giving up points late, yet it's always if only Joe had made the throw or the offense scored more point. 33 point is enough against Raider at home or on the road. The as 2 14-point leads should have been enough in the playoffs. Defense just needs to man up or bring in more talent. Offensively. Ravens need to realize their mismatches are at the TE position and target them more. Gilmore and Williams are mismatches. Raven most run the ball and control both lines.
