Draft picks are no guarantee either. A. Brown, Kindle, Cody, Elam of just a few. If you can get a proven young player for a 3rd or 4th round pick IMO they should do it without hesitation.
With the amount of talent in the front seven, Raven should be a top 5 run defense. I'm not sure if they shown that this season because team know it's easier to just spread them out and pass the ball. Bell gashed them but in predictable situation Raven stuff and pursued well. Hill was huge coming up to stop the run.
If either Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady had the receiving corps that Flacco has been reduced to now, they would win. Brady made a star out of Julian Edelman. Rodgers lost Jordy Nelson and he plays likes he never had him. Start earning your money, Joe.
First of all both Tom and Aaron has been in the same system for over eight years at least. Both have a head coach that helps implement the offensive game plan. Finally , both have higher drafted receivers and played together for a number of years. Same system, same coaching, same players equals better success than constant change. Tom, Aaron, and Manning are elite QBs and frankly a lot better than Joe. However, When other teams cut Mason, Boldin, Smith Sr, Daniels as they were supposed to washed up, Joe revitalized there career. Joe is a good QB that lack the consistency of system and talent to see him grow. He successfully deals with changes every year.
First, Campanero seems to be Mr. Glass. He can't play 60 minutes in a backup role without getting hurt. I don't understand this move. Why not bring up Ross from the practice squad who also has some return ability? Giving up a pick for a guy with only catch this season may not be the right move. I also agree with previous post. With 4 broken bones in Smith Sr back, its time to call the Bears.
I know the run sets up the pass most times, but I don't know how the Steelers couldn't key on the run and force us to pass? That was what Cincy. did and we couldn't pass our way back into the game or pass effectively to back them off the line so as to set up the running game. I don't know how the steelers botched that up. All they had to do is stuff the line of scrimmage, I would think, especially with SSS and Campanaro out of the game.
Steelers don't have the talent in the secondary that the Bengals and the Broncos have. Ravens need to bring in another WR. They can't afford to just hope guys stay healthy.
At the start of the season, we knew these young guys needed to step up for the Ravens to be successful. If these first and second year players can become consistent/healthy contributors, then Ravens have a lot to look forward to. Campanero, Aiken, Williams, Boyle, Z Smith responded. Maybe Suggs being out and Smith Sr getting banged up (hopefully for only 1 game) , could be a blessing. These guys made plays in a huge situation in a tough environment on a night when their QB was not at his best. Good job.
Five Thoughts: 1. Difference of the game Justin Tucker vs. Scobee Doo Doo 2. Young guys stepped up Z Smith, Aiken, Waller. 3. Flacco has to stop turning over the football. If we lost. The conversations today would be very different 4. Both coaches tries to make the game about them. Poor decision to get away from letting the players like Tucker or Bell determine the outcome. Just keck the darn ball Harbs. 5. When Ravens have an effective running game, they almost always win. The winning formula in Baltimore never changes.
Ravens must run the Football. Aiken Stepped up and Z Smith showed up. Tucker is simply the best in the Biz.
Sorry I have to disagree with you there, this team has a lot of talent more than most teams in fact. There is a reason why the Ravens were preseason favorites to make the playoffs and have a legit shot at going to the Super Bowl, Peter King even ranked them #1. The Ravens have talent and anybody saying Ozzie has 'lost it ' really isn't paying attention and repeating rhetoric they hear from the radio or some people on this board.
Kindle, Cody,Elam,Brown, Oher, Dickerson,Jah Reid, Tandon Doss,Perriman??. not to mention guys let, overpaid. Are you paying attention? OZ is a great GM , but lately more misses than success.
Time to win a game.
Why is every WR drafted in the first round by the Ravens been so disappointing? That position in the draft has been kind of a curse for us.
It's not a curse, its a lack of emphasis and value of the position. They rely on vets that others draft, journeyman, and undrafted guys. I don't believe they put the effort into scouting WRs as much as other position. I thought we only had to worry about Perrimans hands, now his knees. 2 big reasons not to draft at #1.
RAVENS don't need a WR as much as they need a pass rusher, cornerbacks, safty,or a big runningback. By the time Perriwomen gets in a game it will not matter. Ozzie has one pro bowlplayer in 7 years.
As much as Ravens nation negs anyone that doesn't scream "In O we Trust", the facts are the facts. Is it really the coaches fault or is it a lack of talent provided. This team fight, plays hard, keeps , games close but the final moments of games are usually determine by players who can make plays. Ravens don't have enough of them to close the deal.
It seems like a lot of writers knew Trestman was pass happy kinda like Cam. Ravens don't put enough emphasis on running the ball. Give the ball to Buck and LT. Spread offense is not Ravens AFC North Football. Ravens lose when Flacco has 35 or more attempts.
Ravens front office need to look at their mistakes. They ignored the WR and CB position in the draft for years and relied on undrafted guys and cheap vets to carry the load. They kept the nice guys and let the vocal and emotional leaders walk out the door.
1. Poor offensive play calling and lack of emphasis on the run game. Kubiak had the same exact guys so why can%u2019t this team run the football. Ravens don%u2019t win when Flacoo has to throw more than 35 times
2. Fire Pees. He is not putting players in situation to win. If AJ Green is lighting you up the whole game, why would you not double him, jam him. I don%u2019t care if they call holding on every play, but you do not let AJ Green run through the secondary for 80 yards in the 4th quarter.
3. Poor Team building. From misses in the draft (Oher, Elam, Kindle, Cody, Upshaw), letting key position go, relying on old men to carry the team. We saw this purging of the roster after the last Super Bowl. Review the draft and see how many guys we passed on. Team lack elite talent.
4. Boldin, Pollard, Torrey, Jones, you let go over a million here or there, but Paid often injured and under achieving J. Smith, Webb, and Monroe. That is how a team is always up against the salary CAP while but lack elite talent.
5. Humble Pie. OZ, Harbs, Decosta, Steve pride themselves on not having knee jerk reactions. I keep hearing our success mean we draft low, have a higher cap, so that%u2019s why the team is not talented. How do the Steelers, Patriots, Packers,Broncos stay below the CAP with so much talent, have more talent at WR, keep coaches in house? Better front office decision making , scout better, durable playmakers, negotiate better contracts, better drafts in the same or worse position as the Rave
I think you need to get rid of Pees to figure out whether or not the talent is that bad or it's the scheme. Same with Trestman. He has the same guys as Kubiak and we can run for more than 36 yards. That's not Ravens football! It's the coordination on both sides of the ball that's killing the team.
How many times coaches are going to let AJ Green abuse them? Tired of seeing this over and over again. Is too much to expect a jam at the line, and double him on the field.? Why is Hill rotating to the opposite side of AJ Green? Just head scratchers. Who is evaluating the talent? Fire Pees
It's time for a new philosophy on signing and drafting. Someone needs to be fired or replaced. Who hired #23, why don't our safeties stay above AJ Green? Something has to change.
Amen. For the past 4 seasons, who were the best players on the team? Guys OZ brought in, Not draft picks. We draft DT top 3 for the last few drafts. That's fine it you already have depth at pass rushers, CB, Wrs ( i.e. playmakers). Paid J. Smith and Webb and let Boldin and Torrey go. Who's at Wr? Smith Sr and a couple of undrafted guys plus a 6th and 7th round picks. Ravens fell in love with the diamond in the rough mentality and are realizing you need great players to have a great team. There are not a lot of great players on the roster and combined with unimaginative coordinators = 0-3.
The problem is the defense. Smith Sr, Flacco, young TEs stepped up big. Now if Flacco has to force things in a must do or die situation he's bad QB?
When are they going to learn to double AJ Green in the 4th quarter? That's on Coaches.
sad that a 36 yo receiver is your best receiver. i sure hope marlon and kamar turn in their time cards
I hear but what do you expect. Brown and Aiken are 2 undrafted guys that coach and GM thought could replace the Boldin, Jones, and Torrey they let go. They paid Webb, Monroe so could have kept one of those guys. . You can't have half your starters be undrafted and veteran cuts and expect to compete for long.
Bengals trying to take the heart out of this team. Who's going to step up?
I am the first to agree that the coaching should be better, a lot better. BUT, coaches don't call interceptions, holding, false start, missed tackling, running backs being hit in the backfield. Players just not performing.
A lot of individual mistakes and poor play. Melvin is grapping all over the place. Guys just can't cover individually. The big difference is Bengals have draft picks on the field while the Ravens have a bunch of undrafted guys and journeyman in key positions. LT, CB, Wr
They look outmatched.

Five things I'll watch for: Play calling and adjustments by Trestman/Flacco. What will be the strategy on offense and will Flacco check into better plays. 2.) Can the offense start fast? Can't wait until the end of the half or 3rd quarter to be productive. 3) Consistency of Aiken, o-line 4) Who else becomes a target for Flacco sans Gilmore, Smith Sr. ? 5) Defense can they be sound in Red zone, 3rd down , and 4th quarter
