  1. I have just as critical of OZ recent drafts as anybody. What I like about this draft, is that it address the needs. After Mike Williams and Cory Davis were, I don't trust Ravens drafting a WR. When has that ever paid huge dividends?

Should they not draft pass rushers because they have Kafusi, Correa, and Judon? Not draft a corner because they got 31 yr old B. Carr? So go into another season praying J. Smith stays healthy and add some mid round corner to cover guys like Brown, Bryant, Green?

Oz, needs to follow up by doing what he has done successfully. Find a vet Wr (Boldin, Cruz, V Jackson are available), wait for cuts to fill in pieces and depth.

  2. On receivers: Williams, Davis, Ross were gone in the top 10 for round 1. By their pick in round 2 I think pass rusher was BPA. I think it's 6 in one hand and half dozen in the other. They need to get a better pass rush, improve secondary, and oline. Can't solve everything with 7 picks.

On TE: If they take OJ Howard, then where do you get a top CB to cover the better receivers in the division? If you think Carr ,Young , and often injured Smith are answers, I think you are fooling yourself. Jackson, Conley, Wilson have issues in their game also.

The Wr, RB left in the mid rounds are not going to be ahead of Wallace, Perriman, Moore, Campanero or Dixon, West Woodhead. Why not address Oline, replace Guy and Jernigan.

Not sexy but maybe one of their better overall drafts in years IMO.

  3. In this draft, the Ravens appear to want to get back to their original identity. Great defense and power running game. We want dynamic play makers, but that has never been the primary focus of Ravens football that led to a championship.

What Kubiak did more than anything else was commit to the run and have big plays off play action. I would like to see a vet to go with these young receivers and I think we'll be fine.

Also, there will be quality practice squad guys that are diamond with how deep this draft is at certain positions.

  4. I think Steelers took JuJu to prevent Ravens getting. There no way they need another receiver. After Cooper was gone, all the other receivers would not have been a top 3 guy on our roster anyway.

The pick I question was Wormley. May have been better to grab a OT or C there, but I think he will be a good player. However, you have to think someone on the roster now will be cut

  5. If we can get 1-2 of these players tonight, I'll be happy
Pass rush: Carl Lawson, Tim Williams, Jordan Willis
    WR: Ju Ju, Cooper, Curtis
    RB: Cook, Mixon, Perine
    S: Budda, D. King
    OL: Banner, Asiata, Dawkins,Feeney,Elfein

    I prefer Williams, Cooper, Banner

I would not be surprise if Ravens traded away a player or move back for a 4-7 Rd pick tonight. Maybe with the surplus of RB and TEs. With so much talent left, team with a need will want to move up.

  6. I'm excited about this pick! Even though its a little bit of a reach.

I get tired of fans and writers on this blog hyping Webb and Weddle, these old dudes that let Brown, Green, Beckom, and some unknown dude on the Jets run through them like a hot knife through butter.

Humphrey is big, fast, and physical. With Barnett, Williams, and Davis gone, why not address a need with BPA at the position.

Carr is a 30 year old stop gap, not something long-term. Humphrey can press and will allow that extra 1 or 2 for pass rush.

  7. If that kid is out there reading this blog, what would he think about Ravens fans?

It's OZ that should be the focus. Show the kid some love. Not guys like Webb that a lot us forgive repeatedly no mater how CAP he eats up while stopping no one.

If Joe plays like he did last year, it will not matter who they draft. FYI- Joe had more weapons last than any season. Yet, some fans always blame the play-calling, O-line, receivers, etc.. Better offense needs better QB play.

Perriman is a 1st round guy, Pitta is been getting paid even when he is not playing, Wallace has speed, Yanda is a HOF, Stanley is 1st round LT, Lewis is solid.

Joe is one of the highest paid dudes in the league and eating up cap space allocated to offense. It's time to stop thinking all the answers are to surround him with the best of everything and put responsibility on HIM to make guys better.

  8. Pros:

Ravens have improved the secondary. Yes, he is a reached, but Are you confident Smith stays healthy?

Where are the fans that are so happy we resign Webb, who was on the cap for $8M having Brown and AJ Green torch him. He's cheaper now, but is he any good.

Where are the Fans that thought Wright was a good signing.

Joe will look for Pitta first regardless of who else is playing TE.

    Cons:
I think OJ Howard may be a BEAST J Allen

Suggs is old, Charles Harris would have been a reach too. The true elite pass rushers rarely fall out of top 15. However, how are the Ravens planning to get to the QB.

Must draft pass rusher next or CB means nothing

Some fans are never happy. OZ finally addresses a need. J Smith can't stay healthy, Carr is over 30 and Young is small. He is big, fast, and physical. His technique can be coached up.

That being said, they have more TE and DL that you can shake a stick at but hard to believe they pass on OJ Howard or J. Allen. So it makes me beilve they are not a BPA strategy.

He's a second round pick, Ozzie time has passed

In several mocks he was 11th to Saints and not pass the 1st round.

Never was that high ever we passed on Allen Howard and foster. A reaction to what bengals have done and Bryant coming back.

It that a Bad thing? Say they Take Howard. What do they target in the 2nd round? A lesser CB, what's left of Pass rusher or WR. O-line.

I agree, not a sexy pick. But the Ravens defense falls off a cliff when J Smith gets hurt, which is often. They reached for a need.

    1. If Ravens can't win ten of these games, its time for changes
    2. Most of the tough games are against their division. Prove yourselves
    3. Not facing a lot of great QBs. Ben, Rogers, Stafford?, Carr after injury
    4. Draft must create separation from AFC South. None of those teams should beat the Ravens if Ravens address NEEDS.
    5. Must win 4 games in the division. Steeler and Bengals will run through AFC south and NFC north, so Ravens must personally put Ls on their record to make playoffs

I'm curious what makes you think the Bengals will be better next year after losing their starting LT and RG? This is on top of all of the players they lost in 2016 that led to a 6-1-9 record.

They have difference makers. Eifort, AJ Green, Bernard, Atkins on that Dline. A stud can erase faults on your team. The Bengals have playmakers

  14. Bengals Road Loss
    Browns Home Win
Jags London Win – neutral field, must improve offense against the jags
Steelers Home DK - tough game after London game
    Raiders Road Loss
    Bears Home Win
Vikings Road Push Tough defense hard to beat on road
    Dolphins Home Win
    Titans Home Win
    Packers Road Loss
    Texans Home Win
    Lions Home Win
Steelers Road DK - May decide playoff berth
    Browns Road Win
Colts Home Win – can’t have a let down
Bengals Home Must Win – may decide playoff

Texans, Jags, Vikings have tough defenses. Ravens need another weapons to win these winnable games. Those 3 games may determine playoff berth

They are still "WAY" behind the Steelers. The offense hasn't changed. Play calling will be the same people, so that's at least 4 losses. WR's are poor, TE's are poor, the OL is "WHO EVER SHOWS UP PLAYS" ???? QB plays like his knee is still bad and his throws are way off!!
The "D" might be better but there isn't a Ray Lewis or Ed Reed to make them play like the are a top 5 "D" in the 4th quarter.
We still have years to wait .

"WAY behind the Steelers" -- yes, the Steelers certainly crushed the Ravens in their second game last year. The incredible stretch over the goal line by Antonio Brown in the final seconds was mere window dressing to push the spread past 30, wasn't it? How in the world were the Ravens able to upset such a vaunted and dominating opponent like the Steelers 3 of the 4 times they've played the last two seasons, especially with pitiful talent and coaching?! Just lucky, I guess.

"We still have years to wait" -- really? Oh nuts...thanks, though. I'd rather listen to your expertise than rely on the proven records of Newsome and Harbaugh. I must have been fooled by their so-called "success" and something called, I think this is right, "respect around the league."

I am going to agree somewhat with Chuckx999. YEs, the Ravens have beaten the Steelers a lot lately.

But, what about the other 14 games?
Steelers and Bengals are capable of winning more games.
This is why Ravens have been in the 3rd spot in the AFC North for the last few years. Beating them then missing the playoffs means nothing.

IMO, trading back works when you already have a good team and need additional picks for depth and future. A team that missed the playoffs and have not won the divison should play the percentages and take the BPA

I completely disagree.  A team with numerous holes is a team that should try to get....numerous picks.

Why in such a deep draft would someone give up picks to us?
Wouldn't they use their picks to obtain many players too?
And if they did, who is this great player they are willing part with picks to secure ?

A team that values a different player than us because they have different needs.  Perfect example Is the Raiders, a team that is a legit contender and some consider the only team that can challenge the Pats.  They need help in the secondary so if a DB is available that they think will put them over the edge, they will want to move up and make that push.  Each team is in a different situation.  Its like you are comparing draft needs from the Browns to the Pats, every team has different needs therefore values players differently.

i don't see us trading back and imo we are going after an offensive playmaker (WR) still would like to see us pick up mack RB from florida in the 2nd or third and if pat eflien is there in the second take him i wouldn't even mind moving up for him and get banner in the 3-4 round to play LG our offense would be almost as good as our D

This forum will explode if we trade back with Mwilliams or Corey Davis on the board, i might be one of those guys.  But adding a RB and a LG (rookies) would in no way make our offense on par with our defense.

You make valid points. It a matter of do you believe the Ravens have 'holes' or lack 'difference makers'

I believe Ravens had 11 picks last year. There are multiple guys currently on the team at just about every position. But they are 'just guys'. Ravens need difference makers not picks to fill holes.

Bengals beat us cause they have difference makers AJ Green, Benard, Boyd, Eifort

Steelers win cause they have difference makers Brown, Bell

We may split games with them, but they will win more games cause they have players that make the difference. I don't see that on the Ravens.

In fact, they lost Smith Sr and Dummervil. If they can't win more than 8 games with them, you need top talent to replace them
