Steve Bisciotti is no Jerry Jones. He knows to trust the personal he hired.
He should. Or else he should look at himself for extending Harbaugh twice and making him one of the highest paid coaches in the league - if he is just a 'figurehead'. The Harbaugh bashing is sometimes unbelieveable and some of the buddy rhetoric makes you wonder if people realize what they say... I bet if Kubiak/Dennison/Shanahan doesn't work out, he'll be accused of being John Harbaugh's buddy, too, a few years down the road.
Same thing with the 'doghouse' crap.
Again, I don't believe any of it.
That would ease my mind a little. Harbs is one season removed from being a SB champion and missed the playoffs for the first time in his carreer and then just barely. I think it would make the Ravens look like a dysfunctional organisation, if the FO would turn on John this sudden.
Excellent point, agreed. I don't believe that at all. Mike Preston is just doing what he does and some media outlets take it and run.
Awesome news. Get this thing official and let's go!
Oh yeah, you're right. But the point is they're real.
I don't like Preston because he tries too hard to make himself a part of the story instead of just reporting it. There's a reason guys like Hensley and Valkenburg have gotten promotions and he hasn't.
I agree but they've been used in any context to take 1000 different meanings out of it.
Preston is good at what he does and I like and appreciate that he offers different opinions instead of being ho-hum and boring but sometimes he gets carried away and inserts a narrative that will get people talking rather than what is going on. Aaron Wilson is someone who gives more insight than Preston and does it without a slant.
edit - we should all remember that Preston is a columnist, not a reporter
The quotes are not from the presser, they were afterwards when Preston talked to Bisciotti in his office.
"'How to make something out of nothing', a Mike Preston Story"
Funny how the coach only lands the negative stuff even though this fits his profile. He has always wanted the best assistant coaches and coordinators he can get his hands on.
This is excellent news!
Kubiak would have been the choice all along but when the news went dead so did my hopes
edit - still don't like Shanahan but if they come as a package deal, so be it
He has a good reputation in building a running game and oline. Texan's problem was injuries/Sucky QB play... Not his fault
Nice to hear, considering those were our two biggest failings in 2013. His offenses' statistics during his time in Denver/Houston hold their own, as well. Although I know he wasn't expressly calling the plays all the time.
I never liked Shanahan or Hostler as options - was kind of resigned to the notion that the younger Shanahan would be here, unfortunately.
But Dennison's name in the ring is very intriguing. Granted, I do not know much about him but the little bit of searching I've done has looked pretty good.
Seattle's offense isn't that good, and at its best it's not anything special. Popular perception presents Peyton as Denver's general on the offense, which he is, meaning their staff on that side of the ball is largely irrelevant. The only one you might be able to make a case for is Gase, and then the question of why would he leave is undeniably valid. It's been reported to be between Hostler and Shanahan for like a week now, there's not some mystery candidate.
Ecological fallacy to think because Seattle's offense is not that good means their coaches are unqualified or untalented.
The Manning comment is way overzealous but I'm not going there.
BUT I wasn't arguing for any of those people. You asked why they would leave and the answer is almost always the almighty dollar. I agree it will in all likelihood be Shanahan or Hostler.
No. Why would people from those organizations leave?
@RapSheet: "The plan is for the #Ravens to decide on their offensive coordinator choice on Monday. It’s Kyle Shanahan vs in-house candidate Jim Hostler"
So much for resolution today.
Well they hypothetically would leave for a promotion and higher pay. The waiting for this process is boring
Tony Dungy went right from playing to coaching (always in the NFL). He was a DC in Pittsburgh and Minnesota. We all know how his career turned out.
Dick LeBeau as well. Ray Horton, Bill Belichick, Mike McCoy, and probably a lot more have exclusively NFL coaching resumes - meaning that NFL coordinator jobs were their first shot at it.
I think Scott is out because he's too pass happy and the Ravens may be looking for a offensive coordinator that wants balanced. The ego thing with Shanahan in my opinion will not be a problem and honestly you can say the samething about Josh McDaniel but it doesn't change how good he has been as a offensive coordinator for the Patriots or the Broncos. Kirby may have never done it before but just like other offensive coordinator they all had to start some where; It may say alot that the Steelers wanted him as their offensive coordinator before his fire incident.
Hostler well theres really nothing much to say about him lol.
Please don't compare Shanahan to McDaniels. I'm not a fan of Kyle Shanahan but McDaniels is an entirely different level of stupidity, whininess, and NFL shame. McDaniels was also awful during his tenure with the Broncos, it's best just to forget about it.
In my mind, if Hostler was going to be the guy, he'd already be there. I don't recall us fielding outside interviews when Rex, Mattison, or Pagano left.
We are interviewing Steelers RB Coach and we have already interviewed college coaches. Harbaugh elaborates who he wants as an OC. He also said the search shouldn't take much longer.
Good man! I'm anxious to see how this turns out. Looks like 4 names:
Hostler, Wilson, Linehan, and Shanahan.
They also had zero talent.
Just saying. Not like the Texans offense took any steps back without him, either. They improved or stayed the same in almost every metric
Kyles first year was not the RG3 year. He had two seasons before that as well - Redskins stunk then too
If Shanahan comes here, expect RG3 as our backup
Rex Grossman III, that is
They have some kind of blood bond
Ozzie Newsome said the defense not getting off the field cost us 3-4 games. So what are we talking about? They were better overall than the offense but not perfect and, yes, their failures contributed to our average season.
He also said the floor was $5 million, so I'm not sure what exactly he's shooting for since there isn't much wiggle room between $5 million and what those two will get paid annually.
$5m - $6m? Just seems like you're saying the same things.
Fine, take into consideration all his stats and see how he has never had outstanding stats in a single season, never broken double digit touchdowns, or proven he is a great receiver, the one job he is pretty much asked to do.
When looking at average contract value, Gronkowski doesn't even make $7 million. He makes $6.9 million. Jason Witten and Vernon Davis are sitting at $7.4 million and $7.1 million, respectively.
Tell me, do you really think he deserves to be paid at the same level as those three? You're ridiculous if you do. He deserves a Martellus Bennett contract at best, which would put him right around $5 million.
Tell me, though, what reason would I have to not want him to get paid?
His post specifically said Pitta would not get Gronk or Graham money, no one is arguing that.
Ed is in denial that he is done as a player and says he wants to play two more years and retire after 2015.
I wouldn't really expect him to say differently but that doesn't mean he's being honest.
I tried three or four episodes and it just didn't work for me.
I love the premise. Its brilliant.
Execution just doesn't work for me.
*shrugs*
The first few episodes of the series are pretty raw but they catch their groove and it's hilarious. The humor can be REALLY crude. Also has a pretty deep moral / artistic side that you don't really see in comedies.

Ozzie and Bisciotti are involved and should be involved. My issue is when it's 'reported' as Harbaugh being totally excluded from the discussion, as if he's cancerous or inept. That's ridiculous.
Harbaugh, Ozzie, and Steve have always said they are in deep talks with each other and always asking for input. When they met in Bisciotti's home in Florida, I doubt they just handed Harbaugh a coloring book - that's what Preston would like you to believe.
I think Preston harbors some sort of vendetta against Harbaugh. Likely because Harbaugh calls him out of the stuff he fabricates or what he pushes. Most notably his 'Ray Lewis and Ed Reed should be benched' column.
