Overall situational coaching by Harbaugh and poor offensive play calling not utilizing offensive skills of players. QB play was sub-par, RBs not utilized adequately. No receivers stepped up big. Then as a dagger, we couldn't hold a lead if it were a feather in the finishing stages of a game because of poor substitutions by coaches that left the players too tired. But, mainly because Joe and the offense couldn't wait to get off the field on 3 and outs. Defense was forced to play too many snaps and by the time they needed to step up they were dog tired.

Agreeing with you up until this point.

The Ravens had a very good rate at avoiding 3-and-outs. Of their 192 drives, only 35 ended in a 3-and-out, which is an 18.23% rate and good for 6th best in the league (LINK). That's in front of teams like the Packers, Cowboys, Steelers, and even the Patriots who were bottom 6.

Also, the Ravens had a positive TOP on the year and were above-average (12th overall) for the league (LINK). The defense blowing leads had less to do with the offense and was more on their own failings. Losing Jimmy Smith really seemed to tank that unit and Pees could not adjust adequately - didn't help that some prolific offense came through, too.

I pretty much knew you'd match but when you get a shot at a top 10 CB, you take it.  Plus, I just cost the Patriots an additional 4 stars so you're welcome world.

I think you could do 1 of 2 things - add it to the FA additions or just up it to the matched price in the RFA section.

Any the rule of 51 applies to draft selections, too, right?

So swapping the pick for the player keeps the same number of 'top 51' contracts, right? Although Thompson has a bigger contract than the Round 5 pick... I'm lost on that one. Is it a 3.5 hit or a 4 hit?

I'm fully expecting berad to match it but I figured I at least had to give it a shot at my draft position.

Extra secret microphones in the locker room when you come in for a game! Belichick is fuming.

How do we treat the RFA additions on the SOF? I put it in FA additions but I guess it's almost technically a trade.

So what were are other options at QB when the confetti was dropping down on the field in New Orleans?

Trade up in the 1st round of the 2013 NFL draft for... EJ Manuel

Or sit at 32 and pick... Geno Smith

Legends like Tim Tebow, Matt Casell, Kevin Kolb, Matt Moore, and Ryan Fitzpatrick were veteran free agents at that time

Or trade a whole bunch of capital for a QB that a team was willing to part with and let Flacco walk for a 3rd-round compensatory pick.

Or, sign Flacco to a long-term deal he earned.

Not much we can do on his contract.... it is just a bad deal. Joe is clearly not a top 5 QB and yet paid like he is Tom Brady or Aaron Rogers. Nonetheless he has us and the best that we can hope for is that he gets close to being a top 10 QB- With that being said.. we need to put whatever pieces in place to help him to be successful!

This is true. He had all of the leverage after winning the SB with that end-of-year run. One of the times wear the gamble worked for the player and the team paid up. Whether you love or hate him, he's going to be on the team for the next few years at least - just the way his deal is set up.

Saving stars? When did Daniel Snyder become a cheapskate. You better go out there and pull another earth-shattering splash like back in 2009 to reclaim your spot as Offseason King. I can already see it, C "Almost" C is going to play for the Redskins for $20M per year.

LOL I know you were kidding but, really Synder has always been a cheapskate - just not with the salary cap.

He gouges fans for little things and his businesses do the same things to consumers. Maybe he is becoming a total cheapskate, based on the weird stuff going on with their offseason this year.

Couple problems I see with this:

    1. Doom is owed just $6M next season. As a situational pass rusher who's still young enough to be productive when healthy, that's a very reasonable compensation amount. Frankly, if he hits the open market, he's going to get at least $4-5M a season from any team that signs him, and he will certainly get more than $6M in year 1 from any team.

So asking him to take a paycut would prove difficult, mainly because it makes no sense to extend him (since we need to get younger at pass rusher) and because he can easily decline and get as much or more on the open market.

As such, not even sure a paycut is on the table for Doom. I think its him playing out his deal or him getting cut.

If teams would be interested in him at that rate, what are the chances of a trade?

don't wanna drive too far off topic here but I disagree that we are on par or equal footing to other teams in terms of winning to a certain extent. I think the Ravens are on par with teams like the Steelers, Bengals, Raiders, Chiefs and Broncos in the AFC, but everyone is looking up to the Pats right now. I say the Ravens are on par with these teams because the Ravens are just as likely to win the division as any of those teams and are probably more likely to advance deep into the playoff if they get there than most of them. The Ravens have had some unfortunate occurrences over the past 4 years with injuries, poor play and the Steelers or Pats just making one more play than they did. But as bad as things have been the Ravens haven't fallen down to the Browns, Bills Jets and others level.

Bring it back to Free Agency. If you are a FA and looking for a team. I don't think anyone has to twist your arm to consider a place like Baltimore to play for. There are many reasons to play here and having the chance to win a SB still ranks high imo. Winning isn't just a on field thing. In fact I'd say the on field product is the last area of winning that shows up for a team. To borrow a phrase from business-owner, investor and billionaire Marcus Lemonis it's all about People, Process than Product. The Ravens have great people running this organization and it starts from the top than trickles down to the staff serving the players and fans. Then it's the Process. The Ravens have a great process to keeping this organization successful and it's proven. Finally the Product. Even though the product hasn't been as good of late, because the other 2 are firmly in place, improving the product just takes minor tweaks. Keeping guys healthy, so your depth doesn't have to assume starting roles, drafting better, guys stepping up to play better. The Product is the easiest part to fix in my experience. So because the Ravens still have those first 2 phases in place, they continue to be right there with the other playoff teams trying to knock the Pats down. I think any FA looking at those 3 things will always place the Ravens in the winning column.

Oh, I agree with that, but when we were in the playoffs every year and capped it with a Super Bowl, we could snatch a guy like Elvis Dumervil, one of the hottest FAs. We still can land great players like Steve Smith, Weddle, and Daryl Smith though.

I never knew point spread was a determining factor of whether a team were winners or not. I mean it's great to blow teams out but it counts for the same W in the win column. But they do feel better as fans. That Dolphins game was pretty much the most peaceful gameday experiences in my house last season lol.

Yup, that was as good as they've played since 2014. It was beauty and Flacco played a hell of a game. Our defense made the Dolphins quit, too.

In any case, we're probably on equal footing with other teams as far as the 'winning' goes. What we do have going for us is some good player ambassadors - Weddle, Wallace - that talk to guys around the league.

that angle is a slow motion zoomed in replay.....

yeah a guy like rodgers has the instincts to make such a play but he is also about the only guy who can do just that.

matt ryan has never been that type of guy so expecting him to become one is not fair at all.

for the record a guy is not neutralized when is in the backfield sacking the QB lol.
the other rushers who got stood up at the LOS where neutralized.

these 2 rushers had beaten their man badly.

if anyone is to blame its them TBH but quite frankly id still say it was a bad play call followed by an even worse one where the o-line got beat again and called for holding.

im trying to hint at the o-line getting beat and bad play calling....
lets not forget no receiver open as well.

pretty sure these where well used excuses this past season for us and are pretty much recurring excuses.

quite curious what has matt ryan done to you guys that for him this is not even considered and he should shoulder all the blame?

Yeah flacco was impressive on the 4 game SB run but lets not pretend there have not been quite a few other games where he lost or almost lost us games in similiar situations and the theme has pretty much always been that it was never all his fault..

Okay, there were two 'middle' rushers, I was referring to the one who is seen being double-teamed and blocked, obviously not Trey Flowers who makes the sack. That's where there was space in the pocket, which you had asked.

Who says Matt Ryan shoulders all the blame? That's pretty hyperbolic. The coordinator didn't put him in a good spot and he didn't make the best decisions/actions. It falls on all the team, including the league OPOY and MVP QB. He is not above it, nor is Joe Flacco when things go awry.

Can you justify the results? Sure.
