He was playing out of his mind and made a huge difference.
I was very impressed outside of that one long drive Buffalo put together. But, again, as people said, they did great week 1 last year as well before a historically bad season.
I'm very hopeful and they looked great yesterday.

hits cam took last night to the head, how blatant the marshall hit was , text book launching hit, same hit that got james Harrison suspended?
Miller looked more like he was going for the ball but Marshall and Stewart will be getting fines for sure. Marshall's definitely was launching although you could make the case Cam was running towards the LOS and negating his QB protections.
Ed's said he has 2-3 years left since like 2008 lol
Ed being Ed, he's a funny dude
Ron Rivera coached a really, really poor game and it looked like his team was under-prepared.
From Newton burning three timeouts in the first 18 minutes, the Sanders TO/Challenge fiasco where is his defense was visibly incensed that they had to call and timeout on what should have been an obvious challenge call, and general sloppy play.
I would consider Yanda, Weddle, and Williams solidly top 5-8 players in the league. If Suggs rebounds he's a top 5-8 edge defender and if Mosley continues to progress he will be a top 5-8 middle linebacker. Flacco is right on that cusp as well.
Not sure how many guys Denver had in that category last season...

pees likes to rush 4 with dropping 7 in coverages with mostly it being zone.
its pretty much what the panthers and the hawks do.
difference is that they have way better players then the ravens.
broncos also pretty much rely on a 4 man rush but they have the lbers and especially CBs to hold up in man cov.
they to have much more talent then the ravens.
So Dean is misusing the players? He can be the best pastry chef in the world but that doesn't matter much if he can't cook the burger you want.

Still lives in MD, looks like he heads up some charities - https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-stover-3a817470

Like most felines, yes
Preston's assumption Pees will be fine is very shaky, too, especially since the defense looked very familiar in the preseason. He even went from the box to the sideline so you know he is feeling he has to make adjustments.

Beat Brady a couple times... for the whole league lol

You might not - practice was closed to the media today. Harbs might be tight-lipped, too. You may not know until tomorrow.

the way it reads it would seem like it's not a true choice to leave or get promoted to current teams 53
Yeah, that also touches the fact that the team who's practice squad you're on has the opportunity to promote you to their roster before any other teams. We were also rumored to have done that with West last year.

Yeah that bugs me about him, it always gets a big gasp and has mostly worked but I'm just waiting for when it goes really wrong
Just now, rmw10 said:Once you sign a guy from someone else's PS, he's yours. You have the rights to the player but it's a guaranteed 3 weeks of being on the roster for that player. At that point, the team can do what they wish.
Technically, yes, Butler could decline a 53 man roster spot. I'd imagine the odds of any player doing that are extremely low, but in theory, yes.
Okay, that was my question. I've never seen it happen. Closest to that was when Terrance West was a FA (after being cut by the Titans), he had the option to go on KCs roster or the Ravens practice squad but he said he wanted to 'get right' and go to Baltimore for that opportunity. Not the same scenario, as he was not on anyone's practice squad at that point - but close. He obviously eventually got called up to the active roster and all that.
5 minutes ago, Rav'n Maniac said:Thanks. That's what I meant. If the Ravens decide they want him for our 53, he could opt to refuse to stay in TB
2 minutes ago, rmw10 said:Pretty much, yes. The decision is ultimately up to Butler, but the team definitely gets an opportunity as well. I'm not sure there's any data to back it up since no one really cares enough, but I'd guess it's a rarity that a guy will choose to leave his current team for another when both are offering a 53 man roster spot.
I had never gotten a really good answer on that. So if the Ravens wanted to bring him up, it's not like a "claim" or a draft pick where you own that player's rights? It's just like a free agent with the stipulation that they are on the roster for at least 3 weeks? Butler could decline and continue making less and being on TBs practice squad if he was so inclined?

This is the 3rd year in a row that my daughter's fall soccer league starts on opening day (Sept 11th, this year) but the rest of her games are all on Saturday. So her 1st game is scheduled for 12:30 this Sunday. I'm going to miss kickoff and have to follow via radio broadcast and the game threads on this site.
Or you could record it, then bring earplugs and blinders to your daughter's game, only focusing on soccer... Come back and tune in for the 4:00PM broadcast recording LOL
Not super pleased to have none of our young options - Campanaro, Reynolds - be effective options and basically be forced into signing an aging vet. But, hey, we probably don't have to hold our breath as to if he actually will catch the ball.
If I was to guess, Hester might not add anything as a WR the way Campanaro would have... I guess this move is more of a referendum on Campanro's health and career ![]()
I always participate in Purple Fridays, wearing my Ravens polo to work. Then, on gameday, it's usually the same Ravens jersey all year coupled with a salty snack (Cheezits) to stress-eat lol.
I'm not confident OR nervous. There are some many different variables than even last year and we've only see the team for maybe ~1/3 of a game versus Detroit. How can you know what to expect? I know I'm excited, though.
That was an excellent read, worth the time if you have it
I think Bulger was also the first established, productive veteran QBs we had as a backup during the Flacco years. Other than Troy 'crawl to Cleveland' Smith. I think Joe gleaned a lot from him and they had a close relationship.
17 hours ago, jkm5bmore said:Thanks. Absolutely agree, but that's why I think that he is an emotional leader. Just the kind of leader that is very understated. When I think in terms of emotions I include every human emotion (anger, happiest, fear, sadness, etc.). Anyone of those emotions and/or combinations of those emotions applied consistently in productively to serve the teams goals usually serve as leadership.
C.J. Mosley's most consistent emotional leadership qualities are his fearlessness, self-determination and confidence.
My 3rd Ravens Emotional Leader on the list: C.J. Mosley
“I think I have to be more of a vocal leader more this year, especially being at 'MIKE' now,” - C.J. Mosley, Ravens Forum
I'm in complete agreement with others who say that he shouldn't focus on 'vocal' Ray Lewis-like leadership. It doesn't fit him. That type of leadership style for those kinds of results is so rare we may never see it again. I'm hoping that he commits to forming his own leadership style based on the emotional strengths that he brings.
- Confidence - Just the fact that he wants to lead gives a level of respect and commitment from your teammates.
- Self-Determination - His commitment to doing the work (study, workout, relationship building, etc.) sets the example and is respected by others
- Fearlessness - I've never seen this dude back-down to anyone. That emotional energy elevates those around you.
I remember seeing C.J. pancaked on a play in his rookie season (nasty). It was so bad that the rest of his teammates just bowed their heads in condolence. That O-lineman tried to stare him down. He stared back unmoved. A couple of plays later he bodied-up that same lineman using speed and balance (making him look like he was wearing roller-skates on ice) , then C.J. completely pancaked the RB (nasty x 2) causing a fumble, picked it up and scored. Afterwards, the Ravens went on a tear to win the game and after that game most of us watching said, "I think we've found our next defensive leader...".
It's time. I think he's ready if he can create and embrace his own leadership style.
I just don't think CJ's emotions consistently guide the team - I can't consider him an emotional leader. He's a leader in many other ways but he is low key and level-headed like Joe. When he speaks, it carries weight - he knows how to use that, too.
I don't remember the anecdote but Mosley has become a pillar to build our defense around, that's why the coaches felt okay cutting Smith.
Browner also claimed that he would "put his hands around [Jim Harbaugh's] neck" when a reporter relayed a Harbaugh quote about the importance of staying within the rules of the NFL in terms of PEDs - http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000212441/article/brandon-browner-threatens-49ers-coach-jim-harbaugh
Yeah, Browner sucks.

Don't want to underestimate Cleveland, it's a bad look. Ravens can't really afford to underestimate anyone, they need to put 2015 as far behind them as possible.
