Zuttah is decent, theres just not that many good centers out there. It's why finding a new center that will actually be an upgrade is harder than most realize. I think we'll keep Zuttah and add someone through FA or the draft though.

You're probably right but for all the 'upgrade the OL' sentiment the FO was giving out, there's only so many spots they can actually look at. Zuttah seems like the obvious choice - notwithstanding Wagner leaving.

Now, they did get a new OL and assistant OL coach. Perhaps that was more of their meaning.

Lewis did fine in a pinch with next to zero prep at tackle. I think the worst case scenario is Stanley-Urschel-Zuttah-Yanda-Stanley. Which isnt ideal, but would probably be considered average in the league.

Stanley's going to be tired with that lineup lol

I'm surprised the Ravens didn't try Lewis at RT when Wagner got hurt. Maybe he was still recovering or maybe it would be unfair to expect that but it seemed like a good chance to see if he could do it.

Colts have requested permission to interview our assistant GM, Eric DeCosta. Rotoworld notes that he is close friends with Pagano and I could see Pagano trying to make a pitch to Eric to go to Indy. I wouldn't want to see it but I've always wondered how much longer Eric is willing to wait to on Ozzie to retire and if he would grow impatient and go elsewhere before Ozzie retired.

It'd be tempting for him, sure. But he's hung on this long, I'm sure he and Ozzie have an understanding.

I just saw this on twitter,

Leaks by Steelers about Antonio Brown could be a message to the rest of the league: Make us an offer for him.

What would it cost to get him? And would you want him?

You'd be a fool not to want him, diva-qualities and stupidity aside. He's one of the top 3 receivers in the league and has not been in any legal / suspension trouble from anything I've heard. His personality flaws are probably overblown although they are a concern. They stem from selfishness and narcissism. But this is not TO-level locker room cancer.

Downside is that the asking price probably begins with a 1st-rounder and he's seeking a new, lucrative contract.

Idk if he can but one guy that is coming out is TJ Logan. He played the role at unc that he would be asked to play for the Ravens and he returns kicks.

He's got monster kick return numbers. He seems like more of a UDFA prospect, right? The 'draft sites' don't have much on him.

  6. Tomlin says it isn't the first time Ben has mentioned retirement. Pittsburgh beat reporters think it is a public expression of discontent about something or other - they're not sure.

One thing is for certain, Ben loves being the center of attention and will create drama to do it.

Wow congenital neck/spine condition that's unfortunate for Zach Orr.  After a breakout season too.

I missed most him speaking at the presser.

Im just in shock because when or how did this come about.

Got dinged in the shoulder/neck area during the Eagles and Steelers game, further testing and an MRI discovered it.

  8. More of a career-ending injury than walking away in case of injury like Borland.

Top of his spinal column was not fully formed - a genetic defect. Something that wasn't found out until he got an injury in that area during both the Eagles and Steelers games. He said he would be unable to pass a physical with this condition.

Also said the Ravens didn't try to talk him out of retirement, as Rappaport reported. Not sure what it would have helped them, he couldn't pass a physical as he said.

See, I think Marshall is the kind of guy that's self motivated and just goes about his business. He plays to compete and wants to win, and is a professional about it. And as long as he's in a mature environment, with other self-motivated and accountable people he'll do fine.

I think its when he sees hypocrisy... high paid guys giving up in a losing season, people not taking responsibility or throwing others (him) under the bus, then he talks out... and i think hes a boundary tester. if hes got a weak QB or a weak HC, and he sees them as the reason for the teams troubles (Cutler, Trestman, etc..) he calls it like he sees it.

This is my opinion, and likewise I could be completely wrong... but with Ozzie and Harbs + staff, Joe, Suggs, Weddle, Yanda, Wallace, possibly Doom, and former Ravens like Ray and Steve Smith in the media who are big personalities that will have a voice --- i think he could be kept in line.

I think most of his issues have come from his own self perception that the media and outside world are coming down on him or blaming him for his teams troubles, while he sees behind the scenes other guys not trying nearly as hard, giving up, etc...

Im making a couple leaps of assumption here, but thats my take. I think Brandon Marshall would fit right in and do well here. Especially on a 3 year deal structured in a way where the 3rd we can cut him with no real hit. He's only 1 year moved from a career year, and at his past 2 stops has put up 1,500 yds in his 1st year with the team, and hes a red zone, 1st down, clutch catch monster.

Thats exactly what we need alongside Wallace and Perriman.

Not to unearth this from a couple days ago, but I do agree he is the type of player we'd covet on-field

Yes but people need to remember why he left Carolina. The front office said he WAS toxic in the locker room. The Panthers did not embrace his personality. The same could possibly be said about Marshall or another player if put in the right situation.

Also true and I was not sure Smith would work out here for those reasons. You'll find my posts hand-wringing somewhere. Glad I was wrong and OH was I wrong. Marshall doesn't ring the same to me but, again, what do I know?

  11. Question: How do you all feel about Dion Dawkins (OT, Temple) and Taylor Morton (OT, Western Michigan)? I keep running Fanspeaks On the Clock Mock Drafts and they are generally around in the 3rd-round. Are these guys any good?

I think we'll be very aggressive with C position and it will probably be up there with CB/OLB in terms of a priority. They alluded to building a strong and physical front and they talked about it a lot. I think we either get one via trade or we trade up in the 2nd round for one. I think Oz and Eric will go after a center hard.

    Zuttah is done here.

I have it as a top priority, too, just because having a really good one lifts the whole line. A lot of impact and responsibility at that position. A bad one sinks the line, too.

They like Lewis a lot at gaurd. More so than tackle. I think we need a replacement tackle and a center.

I agree with this. They had the option to put him out at RT in Week 17 after Wagner was out but put Hurst there instead. Lewis was a backup for the game.

It's been the Ravens MO to draft swing tackle/guard players for depth and development but they need to solidify the RT spot if Wagner is gone.

I'll be relying on this thread to see who the good center prospects are. We need someone new for sure.

Seems like he goes all out first year. And, to be fair, the situations in NY and CHI got toxic on their own... whether he pushed it further or not? I dont know.

But, on a veteran team like ours, I like to think we could make it work.

I hear that, and who knows? We will miss Steve Smith, though. He was all those things AND a good locker room guy.

Im adding to my post with trade possibilities...

Saints have Michael Thomas who looks the part of legit #1, and they probably dont want to pay Cooks #1 money when Thomas will need in a couple years... and they have Snead who's a top end #2. Cooks/Snead might be good trade targets.

Jets with Decker, Marshall, and Enunwa... not in win now mode anymore, so Marshall would be a great pick up by trade.

I'm not sure about Marshall. Is he the guy that's going to put it all out there for your new team? That's been the personality of the WRs the Ravens are most successful in getting from FA/trade - Mason, Boldin, SSS.

I know he's matured over the years but the Jets had a toxic locker room this year and he aired some laundry on Inside the NFL. It seems a lot of the locker rooms he's in unravel - http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18367351/new-york-jets-teammates-irked-wr-brandon-marshall-half-rant.

That said, I know he's got connections here and he has a brief, funny history with Harbaugh - http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000469150/article/brandon-marshall-jokes-about-playing-for-ravens.

If we're looking to FA to get a WR imo Garcon, Alshon and Pryor may be the only worthwhile adds... and we're going to have to pay for any chance.

Woods and Britt - ok - but id rather keep Wallace and let Perriman step into those snaps, bring Camp back (hes a tease, but still when healthy hes a dynamic playmaker) and hope Moore steps up.

Maybe we give up a pick for an RFA - Dontrelle Inman - being the only legit one I can think of. 6'3" big bodied guy, on the uptick, and had a pretty darn good season.

I'll probably get negged for this, but Josh Gordon's still out there. Dude was still a baller in pre-season. If he decides he wants to play, someone is going to take a chance on him and get rewarded. He's not going to get paid, and the Browns want picks... id throw a conditional 6th their way for Gordon. Why the heck not?

I think trade is what ends up happening though, a la Boldin.

I want Garcon, personally. He will be expensive, though... If we can't get him, or any other top WR, our draft needs become too severe and we lose flexibility, imo.

A new report suggests Eagles may move on from starting Center Jason Kelce. That's a move I like to see done to improve the OL. Huge upgrade over Zuttah and he's only 29.

He has some of the same issues as Zuttah, according to an article I read from a Philly site - smaller (struggles with bigger DL) and racked up a lot of penalties.

How much is the system, how much is him, how much is coaching? Jason Peters also has a ton of flags. Kelce probably also will need to be paid a decent amount.

Still, we DO need an upgrade over Zuttah, everyone in the organization has alluded to that. Question is, will we sign one or draft one?

Him giving up those picks wasn't that smart, but I do admire him for having a guy he wanted and went after him.  Id rather move up to get the guy I really want and fail, then end up drafting a last resort player and him failing.

Moving up and giving up high dollar picks compounds the error when you select a bust. The best picks, in terms of building a team and winning games, are weighted with value.

  19. McDaniels' punter called him "a little punk". His punter! He traded us a boatload of picks to move up for Tebow. He has terrible rapport with players (they don't want to play for him) and his teams lack mental toughness. Check out any Youtube video on him, it's embarassing.

Harbaugh's seat is warming but it would be a gigantic step backwards to choose Josh McDaniels. Ask any Broncos fan or media member.
