  1. Thanks The Raven.

And, for the record, warnings were never personal and if you did get one from me, I tried to be fair and restrained. If I was not and anyone felt slighted, I apologize, but I took board morale seriously and wanted everyone to have a good time within the rules we had.

You're all the best kind of people. If you're devoted/nerdy enough to drop a few thousand posts on a Ravens-devoted message board, you're my favorite kind of people, too.

  2. Just wanted to check in and say a very fond farewell to everyone.

This board has been around pretty much ever since I started watching football. Before it was, I was posting on the Ravens MySpace groups and LOL that was a riot. I was so young and knew next to nothing. But I learned so much, from everyone, all the other mods, @theFRANCHISE was an OG beast. All of the posters - @-Truth- @rmw10 @BOLDnPurPnBlacK @The Raven @BmoreBird22 @GrimCoconut @JoeyFlex5- who dive so deep in the draft and come up with legit, good info. Some more I'm definitely missing, the 'younger' posters like @ludy51 or @LosT_in_TranSlatioN who are so energetic and funny.

Just some plain good people, too, funny people! Wise adults like @ellicottraven @K-Dog  @cobrajet @PuRock @PurpleNurple. Some of them have been around as long as I have (I believe I'm member 33 lol), I remember some more like @flynismo @AwakenTheDemon @Ed_Reed20 @codizzle @1/28/01 @Militant X 1 being around very early.

I'll miss you all, I'll miss this board. I'll miss the discussions we had, the wins we reveled in and losses we grieved for. The Dump Thread in its glory days. The incredibly inventive mock offseason game you all developed and have enhanced, that was truly an inspiration and something you should take pride in. I'll miss what the boards mean to me and how I've grown since I've been on them. I'm a bigger and better Ravens fan because of these boards and because of all of you.

Thank you. You'll still find me posting on the articles, but it won't be the same. Sorry for the ramble.

Expecting something for nothing is a reason the ravens don't have any playmakers

They'll probably keep trying to find them in the draft, they're very reluctant to trade away picks. They're all about value.

Good or bad, that's what they'll do. That's probably what they'll continue to do unless Ozzie retires and DeCosta becomes Mr. Wheel-and-Deal.

edit - they're much more likely to hunt for cuts and/or unheralded guys, hoping for Aiken 2.0

  4. Advice: Be flexible.

Don't make a guy like Anquan Boldin run go-routes all game.

Don't waste an 'offensive weapon' like Juszczyk with 3-yard shallow routes.

Keep running the ball when we have success or it's a close game. For whatever reason, Marc Trestman refused to run the ball against the Redskins even though West finished with 95 yards on 11 carries... the final 22 offensive plays of the game were passes... and we still almost won but it shouldn't have been like that. Trestman was fired after that.

I'll never forget when Harbs said after a game in 2015 that ZDS was "just there." LMAO.

Haha that was after the Week 2 meltdown against Oakland in 2015, same game were we allowed a game-winning TD drive with under 2 min left. Jernigan had a roughing the passer penalty that pushed them past the 50. The defense got spanked and Harbs was not happy. That was also the week after Suggs went down with his Achilles

  6. I like topics like this although the Ravens only have a 20 year history so the player pool is limited... I'll limit it even more and go by players that I've actually seen live since I began to watch the team ~2004-2005

    CB: Chris McAlister
    CB: Jimmy Smith
    NB: Lardarius Webb
    SS: Eric Weddle
    FS: Ed Reed

Was very tempted to put Dawan Landry on there, he was such a tough player and solid professional. Pollard had a decent run, too. Weddle is just a better player.

Now, the inverse... worst, or most frustrating, players in that span

    CB: Frank Walker
    CB: Chykie Brown
    NB: Corey Ivy
    SS: Matt Elam
    FS: Michael Huff

oh i agree entirely - im very skeptical of this offense improving this year although as a whole it was pretty disappointing most of last year anyway - im not sure it could get a huge amount worse at times (although it obviously improved towards the end of the year)

my point was more that this team is set up incredibly well for the next few years if even 2 of our draft picks from this year pan out and I'd be surprised if less than 3 did to be honest, especially given the amount of cap space we are projected to have next offseason compared to what we normally have barring something going wrong this year

Definitely, definitely. Is it football season yet?

it's a situation now where this defense is set up deep with young promising talent at most positions except maybe free safety - my hope is that the offense makes strides this year but even if they dont this team is set up so well if they can land some offensive talent in next year's draft... because outside of some dramatic unexpected busts this defense is not going to regress anytime soon

Yes, I agree, and it would be disappointing if they under-performed. All the resources they have put into that unit. I wish we had retained Leslie Frazier but he took a coordinator job.

I don't think we've gotten any better on offense, unless it is something more subtle with scheme and coaching. We lost our most reliable WR and leader, lost a premier RT, and traded away the starting center. Now, all of those things could be distant memories comes November, if new guys step up and returning players stay healthy. I'm optimistic but harbor doubts.

  9. Could be great.

Should at least be really good.

You can tell the coaches and FO were stung by the defense faltering down the stretch. I expect them to reclaim a top 5 defense and remain steady throughout. I think Jeff Zrebiec tweeted that all of the starting front defense is 28 or younger, outside of Suggs and Weddle - a lot of young depth after that, too.

  10. He's got all the measurables you could ask for, sounds like his biggest issues are tracking the ball and making plays downfield.

Sounds familiar to what we saw with young Jimmy Smith. He would blanket guys but not turn around to play the ball once it came his way. I remember a preseason game (I think) against Dwayne Bowe where he was practically velcro'd to the guy but Bowe ended up catching a few passes because Jimmy either didn't anticipate the throw or was slow to react. He's obviously corrected that.

One thing he does undoubtedly better than Jimmy is tackle. Some of those hits are just nasty.

I would like him to retire!

I dont believe this team will win another bowl with him at the helm.

Meh, I bet you said that before he won the first one. The goalposts are now moved.

My only question is this.......... Why must we wait until we hear the coach and the owner admit that he needs to play better before it's considered credible information?

You guys love Flacco to a fault.

The man is seriously an average QB at best.

He is the standard, if you're looking for mediocrity.

How about when he said it himself in October - http://www.cecildaily.com/sports/pros/article_1115ee90-5fde-5bf5-bc34-bd27bab29f9d.html

What suits your timeline? He needs to play better.

I am curious who it was from the Ravens said Lewis does not look good at RT. When was it said?

Jeff Zrebiec has tweeted it before, vaguely saying 'The Ravens feel he looks uncomfortable at RT' or something to that effect

Did Gilmore really have the excuse of being banged up this year? I know it was his excuse 2 years ago. I don't know ... he was a big time disappointment last year, so it is getting harder to get excited about him. Still, I'd like to see us try and work more with the young TEs. I grow weary of hearing about how Pitta led the world in receptions when it felt like 1/2 of them were generated in the worst game of the season last year v. the Bengals when it felt like he caught 20 balls for a total of 50 yards.

Agreed, we likely will employ more 2 TE sets, especially with Juice gone. However, 6 TEs? Something has to give. No doubt the most confusing position group on the team.

He had multiple injuries according to him - http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/ravens-tight-end-crockett-gillmore-suffered-multiple-injuries-in-2016-013117

It's confusing for sure but with Pitta taking his pay cut, I assume he's safe.

On selecting an OT over a WR with the first pick: what use do you have of a good WR if the QB has no time throwing to him because the right tackle a swinging door?

Thinking would be you could get a suitable lineman later in the draft or FA. You spend the high pick on the blue chip play-maker because they're less likely to be found later in the draft.

Personally, I'd go CB with the first pick. Or, if a prized pass rusher falls in your lap. Lots of defensive talent in the first round.

  16. We all said Juice needed to be used more and in more ways, especially when we were lacking at the TE spot from time to time. He got paid big time by the 49ers and we weren't going to match that - good for him.

As for Aiken, yeah he was the 4th WR and I don't know that I would have wanted him higher, either. Smith, Wallace, and Breshad were either better than him or had more upside and needed the reps. Don't feel too bad, Kamar, you had bounced around the league as a JAG before getting your shot here. You made good on it and turned it into this latest opportunity.

It's funny that in the past this front office has let go of good players like Boldin to let the young guys play and it blows up in our face because the guys below him on the depth chart weren't good to begin with (Doss + Deonte Thompson) but we actually have a good young TE group right now and they are all stagnating behind Pitta on the depth chart. Gilmore, Waller, and Maxx have all flashed potential... jeez for parts of 2015 Gilmore was throwing defenders off him like he was Gronk. A combination of injuries and lack of playing time has really hurt that young group of TE's.

I would've liked to see us part ways with Pitta and let the new generation get their shot. It's not a money decision so much as it's a personnel decision. We did it at Center with Zuttah even though the depth behind him is questionable at best, but we won't do it at TE where we actually have guys that can play.

Gilmore's a beast but he's been banged up and it hurt his playing time. Same for Maxx. The other young TEs, Waller and Boyle, were busy getting suspended.

Who's to say they won't employ more multiple-TE sets? It would be a shame if they didn't, a waste of talent.
