  1. You may want to hold on to that bridge you’re trying to sell me…….

I’m not absolving the offense of anything; there is plenty of blame on that side of the football to include coaches and players. Caldwell may not have been the best OC in Ravens history but he most certainly isn’t the worst. If we can get a new OC, let’s do it but I would also like to see Caldwell stay on as Joe’s quarterback coach or in another capacity. Throwing him under the bus after one bad season is not the answer.

I agree and I even mentioned it in a previous post. I hope Caldwell stays as a QB coach at least because there has been noticeable improvement in Flacco's picket awareness since he came to town.

I think Caldwell was dealt a bad hand (the worst offensive assistant is NO DOUBT Castillo), but he seems to be in over his head as an OC. But I definitely don't think he should take all the blame, nor do I think he should be canned completely.

  2. I just saw the Kyle Shanahan has been fired. That is a guy that I would not mind interview to be our OC. I've seen a lot of creativity in his offense (despite their struggles this year, not entirely his fault obviously). Any thoughts on that potential?

He's a great offensive mind imo, but apparently a huge [fill in the blank]. Can't see us going for that.

  3. LOL, you guys are hilarious! One bad season and you’re calling for Caldwell job yet very hypocritical of those calling for Joe’s job. I too would like to see a more efficient exiting offense but not at the expense of other’s when players continued to make dumb decision on the field. It doesn't make a different who you bring in at the end of the day ……it’s about player execution. Neg on!

What has Caldwell done to show that he should keep the job? He doesn't even have his own playbook. Harp on Joe all you want but last I checked we're the first offense to finish with below 3.0 ypc on the season since 1994. That's a total offensive failure. By every measure this is the worst offense we've had in a very long time. Flacco, Rice, whatever, players need to make plays. But if you're telling me thag EVERYONE on offense just happened to regress majorly at the same time...I have a bridge to sell you.

I feel like some of you are actually afraid that we'll be successful with a change. Why else would there be such animosity at the mere suggestion?

  4. We need to stop with the totally vertical offense. I've noticed all too much that on 1st and 2nd down when you take these deep shots, and don't execute, your in 3rd and 10 with no confidence. It's exciting when you hit a deep bomb, but it's far too low percentage for my liking. It's tough when your routes don't develop till at least 10 yards consistently, there's no room for quick hits and yards after catch.

It also depends too heavily on great protection. We saw how successful it could be last year when the protection holds up...bit when it doesn't? Ugly.

  5. Im sorry guys..but theres no magical system thats suddenly gonna automatically get our receivers wide open on every play. Alot of that is the QB being able to find the best option EARLY in the play..and deliver the ball at the most opportune time..and Joe has shown he cant do that consistently.

There isn't, after all teams play defense too, but at the very least you can help your receivers out.

I was watching our game with an Eagles fan yesterday and he commented that the Ravens use ZERO spacing in their offense and that the receivers always seem to be placed close to each other. Is it any wonder that it's easy for defenses to key in on them? We've been saying this on this board for a long time, but this was an EAGLES fan who pointed this out.

Ironically, during Eagles/Cowboys last night, the announcers mentioned how important spacing is to Chip Kelly and how it makes things harder for opposing defenses.

Players, both receivers and QB, have to make plays. But the system can either help or hurt.

My biggest issue with the Ravens is that we don't even really have a system. What's our offensive identity outside of chucking the ball deep? Why are we sticking with Cam's playbook even though he isn't here anymore? We need someone with a vision who can help us establish an actual offensive identity.

  6. lol! The bears are going to play golf just like the Ravens. And who on the Ravens would you equate to Alshon?

We need an O line and better route running along with a healthy TE, not a QB.

The Bears are playing golf because they can't stop running water on defense. Their offense is just fine.

All of these things were complaints in Chicago, and look at their offense now. Granted, we don't have Marshall/Jeffrey but that's what the draft is for (hello Mike Evans/Marquise Lee).

  7. 2008..thats how long ive been hearing that. After a while..u gotta find the common denominator in the factor.

We haven't changed our offensive system since Joe's been here so...

These are all the complaints people had about Cutler in Chicago...then in comes Trestman and what do yoy know, their offense because WAY more efficient and creative. Alshon Jeffrey, who did little his rookie season, suddenly becomes a superstar.

    It's not a coincidence.

  8. I don't know Bro...not worth 6 or 7 mil? The Steelers offered that much to Mike Wallace this past year and he turned it down. Wallace is a one trick pony. He can out run the coverage and that's about it. Doesn't have great hands, dropped alot of passes last year. Not a great work ethic, doesn't really spend the time watching tape learning his oponent, and he's going to get anywhere from 10-13 mil from either the Dolphins or Vikings. I'd take Boldin over Wallace 7 days a week especially at 6 or 7 mil.

There's no GM in the league who would take Boldin over Wallace. None. Zero.

  9. he doesn't need to get separation he just catches the ball and runs for extra yards regardless of who is on him.

Also he looked pretty open for several of his touchdowns during the regular season

When you have Boldin you need a QB with a rocket arm who can deliver the ball in tight coverage because he's always covered.

He's great at beating up smaller DBs, but struggles greatly against bigger DBs in press coverage. It will be very interesting to see how he does against Seattle's big corners.

I like Boldin a lot and will miss his chemistry with Joe, but the team isn't going to fall in a ditch without him.

  10. This thread makes me sick. Not just because Anquan went to a team I dislike, but because of the attitudes around here. Way too much complaining. Wow. I can't believe I agree with Heath Evans right now.

Yeah, it sucks. Anquan's gone. Get over your denial. People have been saying this for months. We were criticized for it. I know I was. I didn't want Anquan gone, but he's gone. Nothing you can do but either continue to care or don't. Whatever. Ravens are still my football team.

You have the right to be upset, but really? 0-16? Losing season? Anquan was good but let's not kid ourselves here. Was he instrumental in us winning the big one? Yeah. Did he make critical plays throughout the playoffs and regular season to even get us here? Yeah. But come on. Stop complaining now. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. Work your way through these stages.

We aren't done. Heck, maybe we trade for Benn or something. We have a ton of young talent here. You have to see if they can play. Boldin was old and made a lot of money. He's awesome, but you must see what you have from your young guys. Sometimes you roll dice and you win and then sometimes you lose. Just keep rolling!

Never thought I'd ask this but: what did Heath Evans say?
