The bottom line is Flacco's mechanics sucked.
1.We didn't replace KO who was a big part of the run game.
2.Our coaching was up an down all year on both sides of the ball.
3.We didn't do nearly enough for years when it came to bringing in quality corners.
4.We've missed on draft picks, Elam max Williams an our second and third round picks this year were a waste. We should've drafted an offensive lineman an a corner instead of the inside lb an def end.
Maxx Williams was hurt and he set rookie records for TEs. Lets not be too hasty to call someone a bust
we had plenty of talent at WR and at TE. The problem is Joe. Now I love Joe, I really do but hes not the kind of QB that can carry a team. Hes in that bad spot of being too good to let go but not good enough to be great. It puts the Ravens in a bind. They don't help him with the stupid routes they have the receivers run (all receivers at the same depth on the field) and the blocking schemes aint helping either but Joe doesn't see the open man and he doesn't move around real good and contrary to a lot of people, hes not real accurate on a lot of deep throws. Maybe if Marty can simplify our offense and change the scheme we can win some games.
Much respect to Harbaugh for sticking to his guns and not listening to all the internet GMs. At the end of the day like the article states even if he were to change coordinators he knew it was a make or break year. Why not stick to someone you know? Why not stick to something that has proven to work in the later half of the year? If it wasnt for our defense who gave up leads and big plays to the giants, Jets, Patriots and Steelers, then this season would have been totally different. If it wasnt for the Oline who couldnt give Joe time or make holes for the running back then the season would have been different.
Alot of ppl are blaming the OC for joes check downs. But in reality thats on Joe himself. He doesnt move in the pocket or roll out of the pocket. Its frustrating to watch some of these QBs in the league make plays with their feet and then you watch joe get flustered and throw for a 2 yeard check down. If the Oline gives Joe time this coming season we will see a drastic change. The weapons are there, all we need is for Joe to have time so our weapons have time to get separation.
AND PLEASE RUN TEH DAMN BALL!!!
I agree with you 100%. So many people forget the success weve had compared to most other teams. there are a lot of singular plays on both offense and defense that could have won more games and made us 11 and 5 this year. Some of these fans on here are so quick to want change when the offense has been bogged down with changing OC's.
considering how many different offensive and defensive coordinators weve had since Harbaugh took over, its amazing weve done as good as we have. So mamy "fans" are calling for change, well weve had change and it hasn't done us much good.
its not our receivers, its the stupid routes they run and they way they are taught to run them. Put that on the coaches, not the receivers. It would also help if we had a QB that could hit in them in stride instead of underthrowing, over throwing or hanging the ball in the air for so long.
I am not sure it was effort or that fact Bengals are just more talented than the guys we have and the coaching is better.
Harbs comment that "its only natural" to not put out a better effort is unacceptable. It contradicts everything he said going into the game.
Ravens played this game like they just wanted to pad stats. Flacco targeted Pitta 16 times, throwing the ball 49 times. Is he on an incentive contract because the problem all year was throwing the ball too much.
Harbs hire his friends
Joe throws to his buddy and can't read a defense (poor work ethic)
Pees plays if safe with a lead
OZ cant draft WR ,CB,S well
This team is a mess. They are lucky to be 8-8. They are a tip ball away from 7-9.
Anything less than many changes is unacceptable.
they are also a reach away from being 10-6 and in the playoffs.
there has to be more changes to the coaching staff. Why are the Ravens so enamored with Pees. The secondary coach didn't change the pitiful secondary. There are many player who have to be let go.
They are enamored by him cuz we had the #1-#5 defense thru out the year. Our secondary was much better than last years. Our biggest problem was our pass rush. Not so much the players but the way it was set up. We kept getting in each others way.
John Harbaugh looks totally defeated in every way at his pressers lately. In one recent one he couldn't even finish feigning a cough to excuse himself from further questioning. I'd fire him so fast after this season and especially after that game yesterday that he'd need a fire extinguisher to put the fire out.
and hire WHO?
Once Flacco got paid and the front office could not afford to deal Harbs a loaded hand, he has done nothing but throw coordinators and players under the bus.
His history of winning was when he inherited
pro bowlers and HOFs on defense
had a solid offense line
had productive vets and free agents like Heap, Mason, Maghee
and a better QB than Billick ever had
has a front office constantly provides him with former head coaches on his staff since they know he can't do it on his own
Now that he has to COACH and develop, he can't win
yeah, he also inherited a losing team. We were 5-11 when he got here in spite of all the "greatness" he inherited.
this game might be meaningless to some people but to the players and us true fanatics, NO game is meaningless.
Im still gonna be yelling and cheering and using body English to either stop the other team or keep our team going. A game is a game and I cant sit down till its over.

I'm taking the win, and I am playing the starters. Every single one of them for Steve. He wants to win his last game. And this "better pick" thing. I would want the win against a division rival anyway.
if we win against the Bengals, that means we were a foot away from being 10-6 and the AFC North Champs and so many of you are crying cuz were no good and have lousy drafts and our coaches stink. Maybe you need to find another team to criticize cuz its really hard to find a lot of fault with the Ravens....
Sorry Mom Gene, This was meant for someone else. I agree with you about taking the win. Don't know how it got to a reply to your post.
11 minutes ago, dirtybird66 said:the RAVEN'S are paying high value contract's at QB and CB and getting second string value, need to dump both contract's,cut and move on.even when healthy,SMITH is no shutdown corner,FLACCO played ok the last few games, not enough to keep his job.if we can draft MAHOMES from TEXAS TECH and CB KING and bring in MARVIN LEWIS,if fired,we consistantly become a good team.
How many playoff games has Lewis won? And if hes so good why are the Bengals in 3rd place?
Tough- not really. Many of us fans know that we are mediocre for a lot of reasons- and will continue to be that way unless our philosophy, coaches, and or certain players change. Nearly the entire season was rather 'haunt'-worthy, Mr Byrne. Good luck in Cinncy, for what it is worth.
if we get M. LEWIS all that does change.
yeah, cuz hes done so well in the play-offs and we have done so poorly...oh wait, its US that have done so well and Lewis that has never won a playoff game.
I think it would be nice to let ALL the Ravens who are active play. That includes Mallet. Maybe just one quarter.
anybody that thinks Rex Ryan is the answer knows nothing about coaching football. Rex hasn't exactly set the NFL on fire and while he was at Baltimore had the help of Ray and Ed to lead the way.
We were a foot away from winning the AFC north after playing a team on a 5 game winning streak, in their place, with the top RB and top WR and one of the top QBs in the league. And you guys want to fire everyone and start over. I think you'd be happier in Cleveland, they start over every two years.
I have no wisdom on how to correct anything wrong on our team, or what should change, I'd much rather NOT go down that road as a fan because I honestly am not a professional coach, it just seemed like our guys were always on the verge of breaking out, (like the game against the Phins) but never got there. If we do beat Cincy come Sunday, we will finish with a 9-7 record, which after last year, I will gladly take, and even if we don't, 8-8 is still better than last year and not a losing record.
I will ALWAYS look to next season with my usual excitement and big hopes for our men in Purple, love my Ravens no matter what, and I always will 👍😎🏈
You are my kind of Fan. I agree 100% with what you said. We as fans don't know or see what happens everyday at practice and for us to try to tell Harbaugh how to coach or Ozzie how to draft is nutz. Cant wait for the next game and for the draft and for the next season. Its all good.
I can't even imagine Harbie being here next year. There are so many more qualified coaches available. Whether it happens or not I don't know but a guy can have hope can't he?
Name a few. Or a couple. Harbaugh is as good as it gets. I don't think you would be satisfied with anyone that doesn't win a Super Bowl every year.
Didn't even bother to read whatever Eisenberg wrote up there. Anything short of firing Harbaugh won't result in much progress. The Ravens need fiery, demanding and no-nonsense coaches that would provide accountability and leadership that the Ravens so clearly lack. Problem is, Harbaugh never hires that kind, he detests them, and only hires washed up, docile types that are just grateful to have a job.
-I've thoroughly studied Harbaugh, and I just don't like him as a head coach. I'll throw out two instances(of many) that are very telling: (1). Still boggles my mind that he hired an unaccomplished college position coach in Greg Mattison to become our DC, successfully producing some of the worst Ravens defenses we've seen. Passed over all the quality people in-house, and somehow convinced management to let him reduce the Ravens coaching staff to something he uses to shore up his friendships. Now, we are loaded with a cast of reject coaches(mostly from Philadelphia) with absolutely nothing to show for it. (2) One of the first things Harbaugh did when he got to Baltimore was to summon Ray Lewis and tell him that he was no longer allowed to do his pre-game dance. It didn't matter to Harbaugh that his teammates and the fans look forward to that dance, it got them fired-up and it was pretty much tradition with the Ravens. Nah, it was now 'the harbaugh show' and he was selfishly going to do things his way...forget the Ravens way! Ray Lewis, being the wise fellow he is did not take offense to it, but told him to consult with the rest of the team before reaching that decision...the rest of the players told Harbaugh that there was no way he could get rid of the dance! Ray Lewis steadied the ship for Harbaugh many times over the years, whenever his head-scratching decisions irked a veteran team, but with that initial selfish and egotistical move, he could have completely alienated the best player on his team, if not the whole team. Sure, it's not all Harbaugh's fault, but his fragile ego would never let him hire the right coaches who coach the Ravens' way, thus he's impeding the progress of this team. I expect many to disagree with me, but two years from now when we're still mired in mediocrity some of you would come around. Happy holidays!Yes I'm sure he is really upset that you don't like him. I would imagine you would feel differently had we won. Fans always blame the coach when things go sour. I'm sure you hated him when we were in the playoffs constantly or when we won the SB. Fickle fans. Happy New Year.
I agree with everything you say. I was one of many who said out of the gate when Ray, Ed and others were gone Harbaugh's lack of skill and foundation would take this team down. It has. I didn't think he was a good coach when we were winning and guess what I still think he is sorely lacking. He will be and we will be just as mediocre next year.
I've said many times I don't think he's a bad man. I do believe he's a mediocre coach. I also believe time has proven that statement.
Everyone moans and groans about Joe having 9 yrs at QB and not improving. I believe he has improved a lot.
Lets look at Harbaugh he's had 9 yrs to learn how to be a head coach, he still makes the same bone headed mistakes, he still lies, he still can't manage the clock and we still slow up for games so woefully unprepared it's criminal. Think Raiders, think Pats, boy that was a big one. Look at Sundays game Bell ran over all over us. Why.
I doesn't appear that any coach on this team watches a second of film. Game plans don't exist, in game corrections don't exist, half time adjustments don't exist WHY?
Next year we will have the same bad coaches, coaching badly. We will be the same full of heart and desire mediocre team we are right now. Because all the mediocre asst coaches and positions coaches will still be here. Terrific..................
Well Ray and Ed and others were here when we were had losing seasons before Harbaugh got here. And as soon as he took the reins we were in the playoffs for many years in a row. How do you explain THAT!
Coaches need to go Matt Elam needs to go we need bigger inside linebacker than orr Williams is overrated PLEASE do not overpay this guy This D never was top 5 I don't care what people say I know what I see Our coaches cost us games every year we are always outcoached Missed play offs 3 out of last 4 years not Drafting very well weddel over rated Hes afraid to Tackle we need at least 2 quality corners to go with young who does look good
You're kidding right??? Either that or you're trolling. Come on man. Weddle was a bright spot, helped Elam immensely. Not drafting well???? This year was probably one of the best drafts we have had in YEARS.... Orr was an undrafted player having one hell of a season. Tavon Young is going to be an awesome Cornerback; already playing at a great level... Stanley made his value evident this year protecting Joe... It's nutz in here. Our front 7 on the defensive line was great.
I an not trolling but having played organized football for 5 years I Know what im talkingabout lets look at your points first I agree Stanley ,young, and the RB are good picks but to many bad picks and free agents to name if weddle helped elam tell me how the little time he played he missed tackles again and blew that coverage against the pats for a td And yes weddle took all the blame for it but elam had the coverage and weddle had deep help weddle does not like to tackle example wentz going in for td weddel stayed at the goal line and waited for him and tried to him on his side. our front 7 was good not great gave up avg 5 yards per carry over last 4 games and no pressure on QB I also saw Williams man handled several times and take plays off I Love the Ravens but these are Facts
Hit the reply button to soon Orr was Run over by #26 on pittsburg gave up 3 tds in a row one to clevland to A Run when orr did not fill his hole 1 against the jets and the last I don't remember game but it was the same slant play that the jets scored and also Ravens are paying ben Watson 3 mill this year hester 3 Mill this year and Forsett 3Mill this year guess what they all have in common not one of them are on the team and let me go out on a limb here and say I bet Bisotti is not very happy about that
You really need to look into punctuation to start with. Orr was a monster, leading tackler if I remember right. People keep harping on our bad picks in the draft but if you compare our drafts with all the other teams we have done pretty dare good.
1 hour ago, ByTheBay said:1 hour ago, The Mom Gene said:Oh God, no Rex Ryan. I want nothing to do with either one of the Ryans. And besides, he'd never come back anyway....
I know. No one ever wants rex back. But Pees is just too good at losing games with weak 4th quarter play calling and there are not a ton of other options out there. Unfortunately he may still be our best option meaning nothing will change next year. What do you think about Norv? I was pulling for him in 2014 before we hired Gary. Boy was I wrong there! Loved having Kubiak running our offense. Like Gary, Norv is very good working with quarterbacks and I think Flacco really responds well to that type of mentorship.
let Pees call the first 3 quarters and maybe 1/2 of the fourth but when it comes to crunch time in the 4th, get someone else to call the shots. Pees tries to hard to not lose instead of to win.
is there ANY scenario which lets the Ravens into the playoffs or they officially out?
We failed too many times on 1st & goal this year to even think about fooling around at the goal line. Juice, that was a great play.
Here's where are problems are...
1. Draft - we have this obsession of collecting draft picks. What good is 12 picks when you have to cut six of them. When you get those picks, use them to trade up. We need playmakers!
2. Team philosophy - we espouse a pound the rock philosophy, but in words only. Apparently, we don't mean what we say or everyone has not bought in. Everyone has to be on the same page.
3. H.C. - I'm not down on Harbs as much as some fans are. I just wish he would take a course on clock management.
4. O.C. - why can't we get a good one? One that can mesh with Joe.
5. Adaptability - why can't we make half time adjustments like other teams seem to do?
6. Game attitude - we have no killer instinct!!
our drafts are fine. We do a lot better than most teams do so don't even go there. Our biggest problem in the last couple games was our defense playing soft in crunch time.
