that 66 yard game winner Beckham had was not Tavonn's fault. He got picked off by Weddle or he would have been there to knock it down or intercept it.
I'm afraid Doom has gotten too old to be a factor. Suggs can still be of some use as a situational player, even if that means only eating up blockers due to the tremendous respect the opposing offenses have for Suggs (and rightfully so). Even if he's not the game wrecker he once was, the sheer fact that he's playing through the injury and pain, while risking long term damage, only to help this team out makes him a monster in my book.
As for Doom, however, it seems the injuries were too tough for him to overcome. He obviously is not able to get back to 100% anymore and, as such, has lost his edge. If he can't make it to the field in the next couple of games AND show he can be of some help to this team, I can't see a reason for wasting a roster spot on him. He was a great player and I appreciate all he has done for this team, but his time is up. It's sad, but it is what it is.
As for the next year, I really really hope we can draft the next starting caliber pass rusher. If we could retain B.Williams, Young continues to develop, and maybe we can add some solid CB depth, I think we'd be set on the defensive side.
We still need a top safety.
Ive looked at that play where Sherman is off sides several times and its clear to me Sherman isn't going after the ball, hes going after the kickers legs. Maybe his coach read the rulebook and saw where its ok to slam into the kicker if your off sides.
I hope he does well having devin Hester on roster is pretty much a waste, a backup DT or Guard could waive fair catch and let the ball bounce another 10-12yrds. Atleast camp can provide some value on offense. He needs to stay healthy and we need to cut Hester. And take Webb with you because he is horrible in zone, man, and tackling I mean my god. we keep tryin to hide this guy but opposing offenses keep finding him.
He did pretty good against the Steelers.
Joes going to have to get a sliding brace.
Flacco is complete garbage at this point. We would be better off if he had torn up his knee on his uncoordinated slide attempt. Continual 3 and outs. Cannot capitalize on defense and special teams giving them turnovers and field position. No offensive flow or ability to exploit any coverage because he is clueless and suddenly inaccurate. How we find ourselves in first place is beyond me, but if the offense cant produce 2 first downs in a row, they will not stay in contention for long. Essentially (again) the offense made 1 big play on the Wallace TD, then was abysmal for the other 59 minutes of the game. Had it not been for a blocked punt, Flacco would not have been bailed out of a loss.
That's a crappy thing to say.
I agree that it may be a crappy thing to say but what if most of the problems on offense are related to Flacco. Remember, the Ravens floundered behind Kyle Boller for years. I will never have patience like that again for the QB position. I would really like to see what Mallett can do. I can not believe that he can be much worse. So far this season (thru 8 games) he has a whopping 6 TD's which ranks his at 31st. It would be worse but the QB's with fewer TD's have missed games due to injuries.
Before Kyle Boller we had like 12 other quarterbacks who did no better.
Fire Dean Pees! Why would you use exotic CB & S blitzes in the 4th quarter with a 21 point lead? Playing Bend don't Break defense shut the Squealers down for the entire game and then you change what was working and give up 14 points and almost lose the game. Fire Ozzie! Bwill, Tavon, Mosley & the rest of the defense almost lost this game - that's what happens when you have the most horrific drafts in the history of the NFL the last few years - you get all these weak, Beta type, soft players that can't close out a game. Fire Harbs! If they would have kept Jeremy Butler, Q & Pollard, we would have won 158-0.*
*Not a real post. Just wanted to live in the shoes of some of the commentators for a post....lol
you had me worried there for a moment. lol
except for that one pass to Wallace our offense was pathetic. Flacco was terrible, the line was porous, and the running backs danced too much and went east and west instead of north and south. on 3rd and 2 we try to throw it. SPREAD IT OUT AND RUN IT!!!!
This FO is quickly becoming the keystone cops. The traded for Will Davis just last year. Now he is gone and only replaced by another undrafted free agent. They continuously pass on blue chip talents when the have the opportunity (eg Corey Graham, KO, Ramsey via draft) but continue this carousel of "camp bodies"
Can someone please tell me how many bad players equal one good player. Will Davis got hurt and is nowhere near the same player he was when they traded for him. It's a smart move.
And how is Ramsey, Jack & Fowler doing in Jacksonville? Best record in the league? Stanley>Ramsey. How is your blue chip draft pick Tunsil doing? I heard he's ranked behind Michael Pierce (undrafted free agent) in the top rookies this year.
KO got paid as one of the top LT in the game - to play LG. Bad contract that the Raiders will regret when they have to pay Carr & Cooper top $$.Another point, we as fans have fallen into the trap of defending the FO when they say things like "We can't pay him a tackle money ... He is a guard" The guy is a monster (KO) he is a mauler, he can play any position on the line. You keep him. His influence on the other players is priceless. I will easily admit that I don't know what the Ravens offered him, but I will go out on a limb and tell you that if they had come close, he would have signed for less than the Raiders paid him.
I don't know why Ozzie would expect players to take huge pay cuts to sign with the Ravens.NO player will ever take less. Why should they. Half of them don't even make it to the second contract deal. Ozzie does not expect players to take a pay cut to play here. He offers what they feel the players value is to the Ravens and eventually another team usually overpays. McPhee, Kruger, Torrey Smith, Arthur Jones, Ellerby are examples of other teams over paying. On the other hand you will lose a player like KO every now and then. That's life in the NFL.
plus you have to give Alex Lewis a chance. He was doing great at LG then did pretty good at LT and its only his rookie year.
I am still sticking with if Ben plays it will be tough to win but with Ben out I think it will be an easy victory for the Ravens. I know many don't agree quoting this stat and that but stats can be manipulated and its how I feel and although others disagree, I am sticking to my guns and Monday we will know if I was right or not. I can accept being wrong, it won't be the first time :)
I can't remember when an "easy victory for the Ravens" happened. Would you please update me? LOL
I think it was when Flacco threw 5 TDs in the first quarter ( almost the first quarter).
is there any Raven fan that wouldn't love to go drinking with Goose? I thought not!
Steve is NOT back at practice ....
surfdude, click on the time below ur name and you can edit ur comment.
The Vikings OC (Norv Turner) has just resigned. I think with Norvs success elsewhere.... he may be able to boost our offensive production enough to change that win total prediction?
not in the slightest. our o line is terrible. Its just like Leslie Frasier coming in during the offseason. For some reason people thought he was going to be our secondaries savior. there is too much purple koolaid being consumed here. do you remember how excited people were two years ago when we signed Kendrick Lewis or when we resigned Sharice Wright. Both of those players have played at a below average level for their entire careers and people wonder why they cant live up to the hype. they cant live up to it because it was never deserved. and I fully expect next year for everyone on this site to pencil John Urchel at center. And when he isnt starting they will say he must be in some sort of dog house. there will be pleanty of articles about him and his math skills during the offseason that will make people totally forget about how terrible he has played for us the past few years. I put Ben Watson in this category too. Everyone was so excited that we paid for an undersized slow and aging TE. Even if he didnt get hurt their is no way he would have lived up to those expectations. He has been an average tight end his whole career except for last year when he was helped by the system he was in. And dont forget about Justin Forsett, the 31 year old coming off of an injury who has only had 1 season out of 8 where he was able to put up more than 650 yards.
I agree with most of what you said except about Forsett. He had the misfortune to be playing behind some super stars and never got the chance. His yrds per carry were off the charts though.
Norv Turner - Just say NO!
Twice his offenses have had the best RB in football (and Hall of Famers) - LaDanian Tomlinson & AP and he's barely been able to take them to the play-offs. Remember Phillip Rivers getting sacked every other play? That was Turner's offense. Remember the Chargers keeping Rivers and letting Brees walk - that was Turner. Remember the Redskins starting 7-1 and finishing 9-7 - that was Turner.
I don't want any part of a coach that has more losses than wins (122 of them).
I agree! Didn't he have a go with the Browns as well? I don't remember THEM doing anything spectacular. We need to give Marty a chance.
@MetalRaven
I've made several posts recently about how the FO put us in this position.
They knew Joe was coming off a major injury, so what do they do? They draft a RT. Great. Oh, but they let go of Osemele and started the rookie. NOT GREAT!!! Now Stanley's injured and I'm sure Yanda is hurt from over compensating at his position, or as a result of Stanley's performance. What the heck? was the FO thinking on that one??? Biggest mistake since letting go of Boldin IMO. I could go on about the lack of quality draft picks since 08 as well.
This team stinks because the FO has lost it's touch.
Stanley was a great draft pick. Someone who could come right in and protect Joe. He was an ironman in college so him getting hurt was unforeseeable. And you need to get over unloading Boldin. None of the teams hes played for has done that great so GET OVER IT. SSS is much better.
Just to let you know, right before the broadcast, Qadry was seen drinking some purple Koolaid backstage.
I think Qadry has a purple Koolaid I.V. at night.
Really? You brought this up in the middle of his streak? You trying to jinx him?
hope we see more creativity out of mornhinweg. lets use crockett, chris brown, taliaferro, dixon. lets use the middle of the field, run scissor patterns and quick slants.
Don't forget Waller!
Maybe after Far Below Average Joe puts up another game with a 56% rating, Self Righteous John can fire Marty and bring in, Oh, I don't know, maybe Don Coryell or Joe Gibbs, or maybe Don Shula to be the OC. Maybe Brian Billick. It really doesn't matter with FBAJ at the helm.
yeah cuz Brian Billick really had a great offense here. His was worse than the one we have now. I think it will help now that our O-line is healthy plus Marty is our new coordinator. We'll just have to see.
All remains to be seen. I'd say, even if they turns things around, they've only got a 20% chance in making the Playoffs.
who told you that? How could their percentage be that low when they are one game away from first place in our division?
The NFL needs a "college" of sort for their officials.
what they need are full time officials

I was thinking the same thing, not only do we all hate the Patriots but the Bills are like our little brother now that they have so many former Ravens..
maybe they are like our little brother but look what John Harbaugh did to HIS little brother.
“Does he see more failure from the coaching staff or the effects of an undermanned roster as the primary reason for Baltimore’s struggles?”
Unfortunately I believe Steve needs to realize it's both.
Front Office fault
At the last draft Harbs described sitting back and watching OZ and DeCosta work their magic. That's leads me to believe Harbs a very little say in who get picked.
FO has never supplies the Ravens with talent at Wr position. OZ method is to rely on short-term old vets.
The offensive line has been a mess and he failed to retain guys like Grubbs, KO, Jason Brown.
At the same time he over paid Webb, J Smith, and gives Wright a contract (smh) If either of them were worth the money, the secondary would not be in the shape it is now. Weddle represents OZ continue approach of stop gap solutions instead of drafting and retaining young talent.
The team after 6th overall pick and 11 picks in total still lack a consistent pass rusher, depth on the o-line, and play makers. That has nothing to do with Harbs.
Harbs fault
Harbs has failed as well. This team lacks discipline and toughness.
Every week he says the team needs to play smart , run the ball effectively, and be disciplined. Yet, every week we see the exact opposite. He explains what went wrong like its the players or coordinators fault.
Why can he tell Trestman or Marty to call more run plays?
He seems dependent on the coordinators instead of them following his lead.
Young players on John's watch never hit the field. Most don't seems to grow. Brown, Elam, Doss, and yes even Joe.
Joe still acts like he can't read a defense, call his own plays so he can stop blaming the OC, his fundamentals are not consistent.
So what does John bring to the team if he can oversee the development of his QB?
Steve needs to add a new perspective to the draft, scouting, and contracts. He also should start looking for a new head coach that can help develop players, revive the physical style of play that works in the AFC North, and adds expertise to the offense or defense.you sound like you read the "Cleveland Browns Way To A Great Team" manual.
Sorry about my last post, I was really pissed last week, but law 215 isn't that far off. There is a deep rooted problem/s in this organization. There just has not been any type of consistency for 4 years now, and we don't have any play makers that are younger than 30. It's really bad when I read articles about getting the ball to Kenith Dixon more lol The guy has barely played a regular season game and people are so excited. That's is when you know things are getting really bad. The fan base is excited for no name players and were getting used to mediocre players. Not saying the Ravens don't have good players they do, but we don't have great players and that's is what you need to win consistently. Im not saying we need a bunch, just a few ;)
We got so used to having a couple of superstars that now really good players look mediocre. I think we have some excellent young players coming up and hopefully they start producing sooner rather than later.
I'm still trying to figure out why this is called the "funny" pages
