As far as WR goes, JuJu and Zay are still on the board and Boldin is not signed yet. I will wait to see what Ozzie does, because I have confidence that we are not going into the season without adding a few guys in these positions of need. These three picks tonight could be awesome ones.
How you feel now? I myself am sickened when I look at our offensive depth chart.
Defense is elite though, but elite defenses will not win games in this time and age unless your offense can put up at least some points. Our offense struggled with putting points up already last year and have gotten only worse ever since.
Q and Mangold are veteran depth at this point, they won't be the solution.
I gotta say the Ravens defense is gonna be elite in 2017 for sure. The only thing l wish they did was gotten Rueben Foster in the 1st and got a corner later but hey Humphrey is ok and Ozzie must be worried about his shoulder. Did'nt do nothing to approved the offense, but we got the cuts and also got 2018 to improved that. 2017 will be a decent year, but 2018 will be a scary team. 👍
You might be right about 2018, but 2017 will be 8-8 year again if we're lucky and we'll probably have another HC by 2018.
Defense will be elite, but our offense will be a non-factor. Too large holes are left to be filled with too little impact possibility from veteran pickups and late rounds. Biggest issue last year for the O was the inability to generate plays. And we've only lost quality players since then.
Our defense might be elite and even keep opposing offenses below 10 points per game, but that will probably be enough to win cause we just won't be able to move the ball on offense.
Yeah, cause obsession always leads to good things.
“Very, very strong defense” will not win us games, if we have very very weak offense, because shutting out opponents like we did in 2000 is virtually impossible in this time and age. However, you can be shut out if your offense can't protect the QB or doesn't have anyone to throw the ball to. And that's the situation we're in.
We might have the best defense, but our defense will be on the field for 80% of the time because our offense is a bust.
The most vital draft ever has turned out to be one of the most lopsided ones ever. In a year where we needed good balance more than ever, you can count it as a failed draft.
At this point, I see us starting strong on the backs of the defense only to lose out in the second half because the defense just can't carry the team the entire season. Another disappointing season and the end of Harbaugh era is the most likely scenario at this point.
Pick is solid, but I'm getting VERY VERY concerned about our offense.
The talk of the town has been how we need to protect our NFL highest paid QB, how we need to improve our O line and how we need to get bigger and stronger in the trenches. So far the state of our O-line has gotten worse than it was last year.
EVEN IF we do manage to build up the line in the draft and by picking up some FAs and Flacco is kept upright in the pocket, he has almost no WRs to throw the ball to. Do not be mistaken, Perriman is not a proven starter until he is. And Wallace is 2nd WR at best. The rest of the group are just place holder at the moment. Even last year, when Flacco did get time to throw at times, more often than not he didn't have anyone open which resulted in dink-and-dunk plays and 3 and outs. And the situation has gotten worse with the departure of SSS.
I honestly don't know what the plan is here so I won't judge, but it'll require a 2nd and 3rd day of draft for the ages to give this offense a better shot than it did last year.
I was baffled by this pick as well and angry at the FO, until I started considering the WR groups we're going to face in our division twice a year:
Steelers, with Brown and now Bryant back, might have the best starting WRs if Bryant returns to form.
Bengals have Green who we've never been able to stop properly, and now add to that the fastest WR to ever play the game.
Browns don't have any big names, but rumors of the freak-of-nature Josh Gordon returning do not spike confidence.
So if you consider even just our own division rivals and their firepower, this pick makes just a little bit more sense and passing up on maybe better players is not so very frustrating anymore.
I can´t believe we passed J. Allen and Reuben Foster inmediate impact players.
Three teams helped us by choosing QBs and we did not take advantage of them...
Congratulations Redskins and Niners fans you are very lucky.
Mr. Ozzie, Coach Harbaugh what is your playmaker concept?
Maybe I'm completely wrong.
100%
What is absolutely sad! NFL.com has a rundown from mike mayock of every teams pick so far. Every pick has a description and opinion on the player selected... every player EXCEPT FOR #16 US! SMH
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000803412/article/mike-mayocks-pickbypick-draft-analysis
LOL, maybe Mayock didn't expect anyone to take him in the 1st, didn't prepare an analysis.

Good move Ozzie and Co. keep them coming! Welcome to the Flock Marlon Humphrey!Sonyour saying don't take best available player?
I think it's plenty evident by now that we DO NOT take the best overall player available. We might take the best player available FOR US, considering our needs etc., but saying "We always take the best available player" is just misleading.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, just don't me mistaken, we DO draft out of need, also.
Wow Cam Robinson still on the board after day 1. Would L O V E to get him in 2nd, no way he's gonna fall for us though. And don't think trade will be happening either.

Though the lame Patriots get to play in the easiest division in football every year so they get home field in the playoffs before it even gets close to thinking about that. Not to mention I think someone said they have the easiest schedule in the NFL, after winning the SB?cool, that makes sense?
But you're right. The Steelers schedule doesn't look particularly tough, but weeks 10-16 looks like a pretty tough stretch for them in the second half.
I think our schedule is set up beautifully. I hate going to London, especially before the Steelers game, but besides that, I think we're super fortunate as far as the schedule goes all around
Agreed.
Second half of the Steelers schedule is nasty
What?? The Steelers have arguably the easiest schedule in the league. Also, they finish the season against the Texans and Browns, which is advantageous in any sort of tight divisional scenario.
I don't understand how the Steelers keep getting easy schedules despite winning the division.
Apparently the hype about signing a vet wasn't about Mangold after all. Reportedly we're bringing back Webb.
Still think we should've gone for Mangold.
Mangold seems like only real candidate and it would be a sweet signing. I cannot emphasis enough how much versatility it would give us for the draft. I mean, our only imminent remaining needs would be WR and pass rusher.
As for pass rush we actually have some (though largely unproven) youngsters at OLB who could fill in if necessary. So our only true need would be a starter at WR. If only we would have signed one of the vets at the beginning of FA. Then we could really pick best player available for the first time in a really long while.
As for RT I believe plan A is to move Lewis to RT and have Jensen (or Urschel) line up at LG.
Whatever it'll be, I'm really hyped about how our roster is starting to look. Solid depth here and there and for the key players to remain healthy and we should be golden.
The Ravens effectively got a late 3rd round pick for the trade which when you think about it is pretty good. My initial reaction was they traded him for a 74th pick and obviously I was ecstatic. Then I found out we gave up the 99th pick to move up to the 74th and I was bummed out. But, now upon reflection and looking at draft value I'm back to thinking this wasn't so bad after all.
Even assuming Jernigan balls out and gets a huge contract next year, we couldn't have done better than a 98th or 99th compensatory pick in 2019 and that is assuming the best case scenario. Given Timmy's inconsistency the Ravens correctly played percentages and took the sure thing now which is better in two regards. The Ravens would never have gotten a 94th pick no matter how much contract money Timmy got next year and moreover this year's draft class is chock full of potential starters in several positions.
So, when you look at the big picture and what the Ravens had in terms of depth along the D-line this was an obvious trade and a good one at that.
Very good observation regarding the best possible potential compensatory pick we might get for Jernigan. It really is a smart move in that perspective.
50 minutes ago, Purple Dawg 96 said:KC can't show you anything if he isn't on the field! And all this confidence comes from being picked by Ozzie and Co.!
Thanks for proving my point, brah. In that there should be no boost in noones confidence until KC shows improvement, even on the practice field. And that won't happen any time soon.
But you are correct in that getting picked by Ozzie early gives an above average dose of confidence in a young player. It was the case with KC as well. But all that confidence in him was washed down the drain when he blew it by being an absolute non-factor in his rookie campaign. Arthur Brown would be proud of him, though.
I wonder where all this sudden confidence comes from, when even his position coach told last year that Correa isn't 100% committed to playing football.
It all starts with commitment to your craft and even then nothing is given. So until he shows some commitment, this "very confident" talk is just some more pointless warm breath out of Harbaugh's mouth.
Dang that jinx. Best way for the secondary to be good - JUST.STAY.HEALTHY!
I can not put my finger on it, but for some reason I've always been immediately field with all sorts of doubt and hesitation as soon as I see Jensen trot onto the field. It's just probably me.
That said, if Jensen really was the FOs whole plan at C for us, we would have probably been better of retaining Zuttah.

1. He can take less because he's made a little under $200M in his career from the Patriots. That's why he can take less, which he somewhat does.
2. Fans seems to forget that there have been multiple contracts in Brady's career where he was taking top of the market deals. The reason fans forget this is because QBs weren't making $20M+ a year when he was doing that.
In 2005, he signed a deal that paid him nearly $10M AAV, which was one of the biggest deals in league history at the time. Note that the salary cap that season was just over $85M.
In 2010, he signed a 4 year extension worth $72M, so an AAV on that extension of $18M/year. On AAV, that made him the highest paid player in the league.
3. Also need to understand that Brady's compensation and cap numbers are often two very different things. Much of Brady's compensation through his career has come in the form of bonuses instead of base salaries, so that they can be allocated over a longer period of a contract.
Tom Brady made over $28M to play football last season. That's how much cash the Patriots paid him. He wasn't playing for $5M, or $10M, or $15M.
Now, in 2017, he's only owed $1M, but we will see if that actually comes to fruition or not.
Welp, here's to hoping that Flacco has filled his pockets with enough moolah at one point so he, too, would be willing to take a bit less or maybe shuffle some of that dough around into bonuses of different sort.
9 hours ago, whobilly said:If Joe's wife made 40 mill a year like Gizele was maybe he would look at restructuring like Brady.
You can not in all seriousness believe that Gizele's income is the main reason for Brady low cap number?!
I mean, if that was the case and Brady really was living out of Gizele's pocket, why even take 15mil per year. Why not take 10mil, or 5??
Brady takes less money cause he wants to be with a winning organization and wants that organization to be in the best possible position to win as many titles as possible.
7 minutes ago, billiejean said:lol thats balderdash - I never said that restructuring meant a player gets payed less. I said exactly the opposite. Did you miss this line... "shuffled their money around to give teams more cap room but they are still getting the amount of money that was offered to them in their contract". Brady and Ben have done what exactly ? Taken less money than the agreed upon amount in their contract. Nope. Go back and carefully read what I wrote and if you still dont think it is true than give me an example of when Tom or Brady took less money than their contract promised. The closest that a QB has come to taking less money was Manning in his last year in Denver. He freed up some cap space and actually did leave money on the table but there were performance incentives which would allow him to recoup that money. He went to the Super Bowl which means he did get the money after all. As you mentioned restructuring does not mean that they are getting paid less.
http://mmqb.si.com/2014/02/26/nfl-salary-cap-explained
"Players with numerous cap restructures, such as Fitzgerald and Ben Roethlisberger, might leave behind tens of millions of cap charges, limiting the teams’ future ability to compete." And as I said restructuring kicks the can down the road.
Sorry! Misread your comment, my bad.
You are right about not many QBs agreeing to a paycut. But I don't think anyone is expecting Flacco to necessarily take less money, just "shuffle it around" like you pointed out that other QBs have done to provide some cap relief.
8 minutes ago, billiejean said:There has been a total of zero starting QBs in recent memory who have decided to take less money than the amount that was agreed upon at the time when they signed their contracts. QBs have shuffled their money around to give teams more cap room but they are still getting the amount of money that was offered to them in their contract. And really all that does is kick the can down the road. Joe is not going to going to take a paycut. It's really an unprecedented move.
What a load of hogwash.
First, restructuring does not necessarily mean a player gets paid less. Converting base salary into bonus money pays the player the exact amount as before, just now some of that money is guaranteed. It's always risky for a team, but it's a common tool to lower a player's cap hit.
Secondly, plenty of QBs have done it. Brady and Big Ben have both done it at least 2 times in the past 5 years if I remember correctly.

Not failed draft in the long term. I just don't see current draft helping us get much better results. Because as much as our D has improved, our O has gotten worse. I see us averaging maybe 12-14p per game at the moment, tops.
