Yes, I think you probably understand me correctly. My issue isn't with Flacco per se, it's with his contract not being on par with his playing level. And that in turn has an effect on the rest of the team, because we can't afford other valuable pieces.
Yes, he did earn a big payday with the SB win. He was very fortunate to have it happen on his last contract year. And I would not have a problem with the buck he's making, if he would play good. But he's not, at lest not consistently enough. Most of the time he is playing barely on an adequate level. Some times he's playing well. Some times he's playing awful. Yet he's getting payed like a top 4 QB, which he is not.
I can't stress it enough, it would not be an issue, and he would probably play better if we could afford better players around him. But we can't, because of Flacco's salary. Flacco's salary would probably not be an issue to me, if he would play better, which he is not.
The way I see it, we are in a really shtty stalemate with Flacco and his salary - he doesn't play well, because he doesn't have good enough players around him. He doesn't have good enough players around him, because he's getting paid top money. And if we were able to afford good players around him, he too would play well and earn top money.
And like you said, we can't fire him. That's why I'm afraid, that unless Flacco starts playing the way he usually does in the playoffs, we'll be in for 4-6 years of mediocrity, until something changes with Flacco's salary or the cap jumps significantly.
