  1. What does this prove? NOTHING.

The lightning had a blower and ford largest Triton V8, the SRT-10 had a V10 from the Viper with a 6speed manual

GM didn't build the truck to be the fastest, but it surely was the most versatile. Are we also forgetting that ALL of the lightnings were regular cab... Not to mention the SRT10

Was about 55K. Truth be told, mod for mod the SSS was faster then ANY of the other 3. Not to mention, the drivetrain was more dependable.

    1. The Viper Trucks blew out t-56 Like a MFR

    2. The Lightning ate trannies for breakfast lunch and dinner

The Chevy, though more subdued had better fuel economy more payload capacity and you could actually tow something with it... All this while seating 4-5 comfortably.

You can also add a high pressure turbo set up and make a four seated civic run 120 trap speeds.

But i'd still prefer a ZR1 over it.

    Lol

  2. I think this quote from Edmunds says it pretty well:

...so we limited our test to the 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 and the 2004 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning. The Silverado SS was excluded because it's just too much like a regular Silverado. If Chevy decides to drop the new 'Vette engine under the hood of a Silverado 1500 standard cab and add the appropriate wheels, tires, brakes and suspension, then we'll talk about a three-truck comparison test. Until then, Ford and Dodge have the baddest muscle trucks around.

Don't get me wrong...when it comes down to it, all three are good in their own aspects.

MOD NOTE: Please include a link to this article. Ty.

  3. ...I adore the '99 SVT Cobra. A masterpiece, in my opinion, especially for it's time period. It is one of my "must have" cars before I die! Problem is finding someone willing to part with theirs.

Surely you mean the Terminator- 2003-2004 models.

The '99 started the 'new look'. But the 03-04 Cobras with the under-rated 390hp supercharged engines are the best modern Cobra ever made.

    Those things are beasts!

  4. Problem with the Dodge, Silverado is the torque and towing. They make all their torque at EXTREMELY high rpm's, making towing off the line absolutely appalling. F-150 makes 90% of it's torque at 1,700 rpm's while it takes the Chevy and Dodge 4000 rpm's.

Granted, Silverado is a better looking truck exterior wise... but the F-150 kills the competition interior wise.

I don't know...my Avalanche could drag the F150 across the pavement that I traded in for it. :P

  5. What about the design. If you compare the Chevy or the Sierra which is exactly the same darn thing. Looks much nicer from the outside/inside and I even asked the wifey which truck would she take F-150 or Sierra. "She said Sierra Denali 1/2 ton hands down."

Yeah, Ford trucks have been pretty vanilla since the introduction of the 11th generation- 2005+.

I thought the 1997 model was pretty nice and forced Chevrolet to step up and make a larger, better looking truck.

Now the F150 is just a big box covered with tacky, plasticy, chrome trim.

The Sierra is a much more visually appealing truck, imo. Chevrolet has always trumped the other 2 in technology and power. Ford and Dodge are always chasing the Chevy's power.

I still would love to have an SRT-10 Ram or Jeep GC though. Those things are sweet!

  6. About five years ago I bought a 93 MR2 for a project car. So much for the project, I haven't done a thing to it since I bought it and it sits in my garage most of the year. Its in great shape with 60,000 original. Every Winter I say I am going to sell it, then Summer comnes around and I change my mind!

When the Mark II body style came out I wanted one, but they were so damn expensive...for a guy right out of high school.

I ended up getting a pampered Conquest TSI for $7500 and wrecked it about a half year later. :(

The good thing was at least I didn't end up upside down as I would have buying that MR2. lol

  7. Yea, pretty sweet. Unless its a typo, that TQ seems unusually hight for a Honda. I'd like to see a Dyno sheet of it. I'm sure power under the curve is still pretty weak.

I'm more concerned with 346whp on a front wheel drive car. Holy torque steer and wheel hop Batman!

  9. Hey now, dont hate too hard on the hybrids! Some of the concept cars are sick. Honda had one a few years ago that put out over 400hp and still got over 40mpg.

Once they figure out how to get this shiz mass produced, the tree huggers are really gonna come after us.

Don't forget Tesla Motors...in case you have $100K lying around. ;)

  10. No offense, but if you define "true motorhead" as a being a pot-bellied slug with a mullet, missing teeth, spaghetti-o stains on his wife beater and a loud *** Trans Am, then I guess you're right; not a true motorhead.

But I thought it was about making the fastest time humanly possible, not building the biggest motor and thinking that's good enough.

Motorheads to me is anyone who has an interest in and a little knowledge of cars and their inner workings; whether its the slug in the Trans Am, the ricer with the airplane wing and fart can hanging off the end of their Neon, or people with style and taste who restore old Bimmers with their own blood and sweat. That's why Motorheads include Bimmers...I'm pretty sure that piecing together a homemade turbo and installing it yourself is something that would bring a tear of pride to any real motorhead.

Thanks for the input though :)

So to you motorhead is a lot more vague term than I. That's all.

It's kinda like some people envision bikers as anyone who rides a motorcycle. But I guess I am bit old school in that a biker I still think of Sonny Barger, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper.

Likewise, I would rather see anything Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, Charger, Challenger, Viper, etc., etc., etc. whooping up on anything made overseas!

    GO JOE DIRT!!!!

  11. What is everyone's favorite motors of all time? If cost and availability were no object, what are the motors that get your blood going the most?

Personally I've always loved low displacement V8s and high revving I6s.

I'm trying hard to narrow it down to my top 3, here's what I've got so far (not necessarily in order):

    1. Ferrari's 3.6L V8 found in the Modena (my dream car!)

    2. BMW's 3.2L I6 from the late 90's/early 00's M3

    3. Porsche's 3.8L H6 from the GT3

There are several other engines I was debating on, but if I can only limit myself to top 3 those would be it.

No offense, but with a topic titled Motorheads..these engines do not come to mind.

Those of us true motorheads know it is all about one thing- displacement.

I also found it amusing this thread is about a BMW.

    Motorheads...Bimmers= :34853_doh:
