  1. A bit OFF - but have the Broncos beeen granted exemption from the cap limit or what??? They have grabbed Talib on a "mega-deal", landed TJ. Ward and now DeMarcus Ware... The heck? Super Bowl teams' rosters are usually ransacked and looted the following summer, not muscled up even more...

  2. If only they could find away to pick up Alex Mack on something like a 5-6 year deal that the Browns won't match.

The sad truth is that the Browns have a much free bigger cap space than we do, so it seems unlikely that there could be a deal we could afford and they couldn't. And I'm also quite sure they wouldn't be too keen on the idea of losing one of their top players to a division rival...

But I agree in that it would be great.

  3. RSR is reporting a possible return of Rolando McLain to Baltimore this season. We'll have to wait n see.

The typical case of "who should we believe": another source said McClain's return is not imminent at best...

I guess the real situation is that he said he's thinking about returning - without mentioning any special time frame. We don't yet know how deep his desire to return is, we don't know how much his mind has cleared, we don't know how much he's in shape... Surely, we could use a healthy McClain... but I guess we should just wait and see before starting to hope.

  4. Rick Dennison would be a good choice. You've seen what his offense did with Arian Foster the past few years. Outside of last year when Schaub completely fell apart, the Texans were one of the top teams in the league. Dennison or Shanahan - I'm good with either of those guys.

The good thing about a new name suddenly pop up out of nowhere is that it suggests Hostler isn't approved by at least one guy in said chain of command. And I call this good news because it's Hostler who has by far the least convincing track record. The positive thing that was mentioned again and again of him is that he's thoroughly familiar with the organization, the roster, the language, the system etc... Well, that would, indeed, be a strong point if we were in the middle of a season, or near the start - but whoever will be the new OC will have half a year to familiarize himself with all that. Half a year. I could learn the system, language etc. in half a year, let alone a proven OC. So, IMHO Hostler's strong point is not a strong point at all under the circumstances.

I'm not saying he would surely be a bad OC  - I'm just saying why risk someone poorly proven if we can go with much more proven guys?

But once again, I trust the organization. Whoever they pick I deem will be the best choice. No-one can accuse the guys with hasty decision after all :)

  5. I want harbaugh out of this franchise.

You're right. After all, what has he done for us lately? Five playoff appearances in six seasons? Winning at least one playoff game each time? A combined 71-37 record? Oh, and almost forgot: a Super Bowl win?

Yeah, you're right. He should be out first thing tomorrow.

PS: Somehow the expression "spoiled rotten" springs to mind...

  6. My guess s Shanahan OC, Hostler QB Coach/Assist OC

Why would they move Hostler from WR coach to QB coach? That would be a "lateral" move, not a promotion. Plus, by filling a coaching vacancy (which we don't even know the FO wants to fill in the first place), it would the same time create another one, so, we would still have to find a new WR coach...

  7. Maybe the Ravens are giving Poe an interview for the OC job? Lol What the heck is the holdup? It is now Saturday and still no word. Poe couldn't do worse then Caldwell did last year!

Could it be that one of the reasons for the Ravens' success is that they don't make knee-jerk decisions - especially with important things like our future OC?

  8. Looks like another Har Boo Boo is about to happen. We never even talked to Norv Turner. Mistake! We never even talked to Kubiak. Maybe a mistake. Kyle Shanahan is the best candidate left standing at this point. But who appears to be the front runner for the job? Hostler! Another mistake! When are you going to stop it, Harbaugh? Answer, probably never.

What makes you think you know who to interview better than anybody in the organization? I think even the last ballboy has more info than we, outside fans do...

  9. Cam Cameron was never known as being quiet. He was actually known for being very locked in his ways and not being one to compromise is any way or form.

By a "lack of strong personality" I more referred to not being an outspoken, outwards kind of guy - think of "not like Rex Ryan" :) Cameron wasn't like that - that's what I wanted to say.

  10. After watching the news and local sports channels I get the feeling it's going to be in house and Jim is one on their list.

What I'm afraid a little more is that the "usual" Ravens-selecting philosophy prevails, and we'll go for the experience and a kind of lack of a strong personality - and take Childress. He's the one that embodies the most the kinds of coordinators we've had since Rex Ryan and maybe Pagano: never a real strong voice, never a young one that personifies energy and youth and change... I'd be surprised if Ozzie picked the young Shanahan. He almost always goes for experienced older wolves. The last time it didn't happen so was when they picked Harbaugh. Not one young, upcoming coach as a coordinator since then... Mattison, Cameron, Pagano, Caldwell, Pees - all of the mid/older generation. I'm not saying being middle aged or older is automatically a bad thing for a coordinator, and I can understand how and why Ozzie values experience so much - but especially with the O, where agility, energy, aggressiveness is a basic pillar, it would seem absolutely logical to try the young ones... And Shanahan (34) is almost 15 years younger than the next youngest candidate, Hostler (47)...

  11. I watched a few skins games last season (my cousin is a skins fan,)kyle Shanahan is a good OC but tends to get away from the run way too many times (even when they are tied or few times they were ahead)he doesn't make adjustments in the second half, skins always get steam rolled int he 3rd and 4th, while the offense can't move the ball. I wouldn't mind hiring him as a consultant if he agrees but we need an established OC to run this offense. In addition, If I was the browns I wouldn't let the ravens interview Norv.

I'm not sure we should draw conclusions based on a few games.

  12. Agreed ... not requesting an interview shows they probably aren't interested in him and as you say, we'll likely never know why. I didn't think it was because we forgot he existed :-) It is just funny how conventional wisdom among analysts does little good in determining what is really happening within an organization.

Yeah, it's often funny how everybody expects the FO to do one thing and they always do something different :)

  13. I wish the Ravens would try to get an interview with Norv.

Reports say Turner has practically agreed with the Vikes. Dunno how much this is true - but I guess we can safely say he wasn't in our plans for some reason. If we had any serious intentions - or chance - to interview Turner, we would have.

  14. This is why I refuse to get all hyped up about our off season moves! I'm just waiting to see if things will be different...as Ozzie and Harbaugh said they would be in the presser. Well!  I'm watching fellas and haven't seen anything of significance so far!

Yeah - the key part is to be aware all the time that we have no effect on what Ozzie and Co are doing - we can only wish and hope. So, no matter how hot a favourite Norv Turner was here on the forums, it means nothing for them.

... and that's all right. Why would it?

  15. Interesting that it seems we're not even pursuing Turner at this point and if we sit still, he'll be gone (actually, he may already be gone).

Well, if we aren't pursuing him then it's only logical to assume it is so because we didn't have the intention. It just doesn't go like Ozzie reading the news and going "Oh, shoot, we've missed out on Norv!" If we wanted to interview him, we would have.

WHY they didn't want to interview him is another question - one we may never learn the answer to.
