Was Ryan Gosling nominated for anything in Drive? That movie has to win something.
Nope, it was only nommed for sound editing. I was very surprised and annoyed that Albert Brooks didn't get a nom for Supporting Actor,he was great.
A lot of the Oscar best pictures this year are overrated. Just a bunch of self-occupied Hollywood 'art'. The Artist, Hugo and Extremely Loud & Incredibly close.
Actually, both Hugo and The Artist are among my favorites of the year. I just said The Artist was overrated because it seems to be the front runner to win BP and at the top of a lot of best of lists. Haven't seen Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close yet, but I plan to soon. I liked the novel and I like the director, but the trailers don't look great and it's gotten mixed reviews, so I'm not expecting much.
For me, the worst BP nominees are The Help and War Horse. Both extremely overrated and it's disgusting that stuff like Drive ( my favorite of the year), 50/50 (2nd favorite), Warrior and Dragon Tattoo get left off the list and movies like those get on. My actual least favorite of the nominees is Tree Of Life, which was the most boring movie I've seen since the last Mallick movie I saw, but I can at least give that credit for being very well made, and beautifully shot.
My favorite part of Monday's RAW was Cena's angry face. I laugh every time I think of it.

Watched The Artist last night. A little overrated, but I still really enjoyed it. Also watched 50/50 for the 2nd time. Really great movie.
Wanna see contraband but not expecting anything much at all..Excited about Liam neeson's The Grey
Both of those are January movies
There are exceptions, though I doubt I'll see either of those in theaters unless I'm desperate for something to see. They both look like they'd make decent rentals.
There's not really a lot of good looking movies coming out soon in my opinion. I'll see The Grey and Safe House just because Denzel is in it, and maybe The Woman in Black of it gets good reviews. Act of Valor looks promising as well, but besides those few, not really feeling the upcoming releases within the next few months.
Welcome to January. It's very rare anything decent comes out in this month. Usually the only things I see this time of year are all the limited release Oscar contender movies that are just know making it out here. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close comes out this coming weekend and 2 weeks after that we get The Descendants. I'm hoping Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Artist make it here soon.
I applaud you for seeing the original one first. Haven't seen the follow ups. Hornest nest or Fire. Sure they aren't as good since the original crushed Swedish records.
I'm sure if the US version does well they'll spit out the Hornet's Nest and Fire sequels quickly.
Having now seen the American and Swedish versions twice each, Fincher's version is better. I like the Swedish version, but it just can't touch the style that Fincher brings to it. It also has an absolutely amazing and crazy opening credits sequence that sets the tone for the film. I will say that Noomi Rapace is excellent as Lisbeth, but Rooney Mara is just as good and she makes the role her own (she doesn't just do a Noomi Rapace impression). You should give it a chance. As for the sequels, I've heard that they are moving forward on them despite the box office not being great (they probably didn't expect it to do much, with it being an extremely hard R and coming out against a bunch of family holiday releases). I just REALLY hope Fincher stays on, if not I'll lose a lot of interest. I haven't watched the Swedish sequels yet but I have read all the books and I enjoyed the 2nd book better than the 1st, and I'd rank the 3rd slightly lower than the first, but they were all good.
I just saw Warrior for the second time last night. Just an all around phenomenal movie.
Just watched it for the first time tonight. Totally agree. It's great to finally see a good MMA movie.
Finally got around to seeing Hugo tonight, on it's last day at my theater. Excellent movie. Made me feel all sentimental about the art of cinema. Really great use of 3D too, it really helped pull you into the movie.
I agree. The original Swedish Film was very good. Noomi Rapace was phenomenal. Not sure why there needs to be an American Remake (even though Fincher says its not) when the original was only 2 years old.
Seriously, does Hollywood even know how to be creative on its own anymore? Remakes, Reboots and Sequels seem to be the majority of blockbusters nowadays.
Not surprised they remade this film so fast because of the proven track record the original film had. Hollywood did the same thing with "Let the Right One In"
Okay, I'm getting off my hipster movie podium now.
There needs to be a remake because Americans won't read subtitles. That's just the way it is. I'm just glad that it landed with one of the best directors working today. Looking forward to seeing it.
Originally from Baltimore County, moved to Bristol, VA when I was 12 and am still here. We had the Ravens for about two years before I moved but I wasn't really into football at that time so I've never been to a Ravens game, but I think I'm going to try and go next year. I really want to see Ray Lewis before he retires (which hopefully won't be for a few years, but you never know).

Saw it Sunday, it was my first 2012 movie. I really enjoyed it. The "found footage" format is getting old, but here it really helped make the scenes where they're discovering their powers feel more real and down to earth. I did feel that the format hurt the climax of the film, as they had to keep cutting to security cameras and stuff like that to keep them on camera, but it still worked and I really liked the movie.
