In hindsight, it's good we didn't draft a receiver high. We need to run the ball more anyway and another receiver would just make marty & joe go pass happy again. Plus outside the first 3 rounds I doubt there would have been a receiver that would have come in and changed things so please put the pitch forks down. This defense will be very stout and may the best in the NFL by season's end. Pees finally does not have to be scared that the coverage will be blown due to poor play by secondary. Chris Hewitt's turn to prove that he was not the reason the secondary has been so trash since his arrival.

We will have the best secondary in the NFL cause of this. CBS are a premium for years now even White from LSU went in the first. Does he grab a little too much and need to work on finding the ball? yes. but he was the 2nd rated CB and that can be cleaned up. You can't teach speed, height and tenacity. plus Foster and Allen had medical flags. No one knows BAMA players better than OZ. We don't need 7 TEs. Pass rushers are a deep class too. Good Job FO!! Oz made a good choice. I would have been upset if we drafted Howard. Did yall even watch the draft??? Oz has the inside scoop on everything BAMA so he had reason to pass on Allen and Foster. This was BPA that we really needed. Now we can actually blitz and not worry about receivers running free. The secondary has been a weakness for sometime now and Carr wasn't going to fix that. It would be funny if we got Cam Robinson in the second.

Now you're just making excuses for your weak argument. Yes, it's possible that some draft picks don't work out. What are you not going draft and fill every hole via FA because of the chance of the pick not panning out? No. At some point you have to draft for positions and we have a scouting dept whose job is to scout these players. The draft lines up us for CB but we will not take 1 in the first 2 rounds. There are quality starters within those rounds despite what you may think that would be same or better than Carr and younger + cheaper. Come draft time you will see I was right.

Adding a veteran Corner isn't nearly enough to address the position, and it wouldn't stop us from targeting one early in the draft either. Adding Claiborne does make a difference, It would push the need to pick a CB to later rounds. We also need more than 1 corner from this draft. Claiborne's possible signing would put these needs off to later rounds and would basically mean we are getting only one corner in the mid rounds. We need a corner out the first 2 rounds and another in the 3-4 round. Both salaries combined would still be less than what that fool is asking for. 2 players for less than the price of 1 who is merely a band-aid is the better choice. They would also be younger and more durable cause anyone is more durable than him. So yes Claiborne would prohibit us from drafting cbs where we should. All of this is moot, since we signed Carr instead of Claiborne. But regardless, the signing of either player doesn't even remotely push back the need for a Corner in the draft, and it certainly wouldn't prevent us from drafting one on day 1 or day 2. Can never have too many corners, and signing somebody like a Carr or Claiborne is going to be a mostly short-term deal with little guaranteed money, meaning he may only be on the team for a year or two. Carr's deal, as we see it now, is roughly a 2 year deal with a bunch of options. If you're using a draft pick on a corner, regardless of round, it could easily take that long to develop them into starter quality, and with 3 corners already on the roster, we're in a prime spot to take a stab at such a guy and let them play in nickel/dime coverages for the first year or two. There's very few FA signings that we have made or will make that will prevent us from using an early round pick on that position. The fact that we have Weddle and Jefferson doesn't even remotely mean that we wouldn't take a Safety in the first round or in day two. In fact, I think we very well may. It's not moot. The premise is the same. Yay!! we got a serviceable 30 yr old corner. We will now only draft one cb and watch us not select a corner in the first 2 rounds when the draft has a bunch of starters there.

I highly doubt we pick Howard at 16 even if he is there. We need corners and need to address one of these spots in the first 2 rounds and this draft has plenty of good options. With Jones hurt we'll either trade back and grab Conley or stay and take a pass rusher. Then get another corner on day 3.

Hopefully that does not mean we offered more than others for Claiborne like we did with B Will. We need to draft a CB in first 2 rounds.

Even if all we do is draft a corner, that basically gives you Jimmy, Young (who is better in the slot) and a rookie. Not exactly the depth we are looking for, especially when you're #1 corner misses time often. When it comes to Corner, you're probably looking at a cheap veteran signing AND a decent draft pick, not OR a decent draft pick. They do have something do with each other. It means we have don't sign a FA Cb whose price is high due to demand. And we can draft two CBs. One oft injured cb to alleviate another oft injured cb is not a plan. And those FA cbs have worked out recently. 1. We have no clue what Claiborne's price is. So far, there's been very little discussion of him at all in FA, which means he's highly unlikely to be part of the first wave of higher paid players. You're just guessing that his price would be high. 2. We could still draft two corners if we signed him... again, that stops nothing from happening in the draft. You're also probably highly unlikely to sign a corner who doesn't get injured or draft a corner who won't get injured, because, frankly, corners get injured a lot. You can go back and look at the history of our franchise and you'll see a lot of corners that have been injured multiple times. You're right, those FA CBs haven't worked out recently. And neither have the draft picks. Its the hardest position in the league in my opinion to evaluate and get your money's worth out of, save for maybe QB. You're gambling in either scenario. All else equal the draft is the way to go which is supposed to be our philosophy anyway. Paying for a corner who was on one of the worst cover teams last year who is also not as durable is not remedying the issue. You're right I don't know the price but I know the market. Just look at what Wright got last year. This is the market unfortunately which shows in all these inflated contracts lately. When we have to eat the dead money for all those failed deals which were not that hard to see at the time that they were not worth it. And people wonder where our cap space went? We need to build via the draft to combat the excess cap space of other teams. The draft picks on CBs have actually panned out well: Tavon Young a 4th round corner played better than Arrintgton, Wright and any other FA cb they brought in the last 5 years. Webb played good corner for his first contract tenure. And Smith was well worth the 1st rounder. Pass rusher, safety for some odd reason and WR are the positions that seem to always allude us in the draft but I would still keep trying to build via the draft we all know we can't hit on every draft pick but not to try is absurd.

Don't see the need for Claiborne with such a deep draft class at the position. Plus cbs cost a lot on the market. Let's get back to the Raven way and build via the draft and UDFAs. FO seems to be losing their touch.

What's with all the retreads lately? Torrey was good for us as a draft pick. But, he had issues like all ravens wide receivers in getting separation when pressed in man coverage. We don't need more bad FA deals. If Torrey is less than 4 mil a year fine. Anything more than that you need to fill via the draft.
