  1. I don't know if I've ever appreciated Bisciotti as much as I do after that press conference.

Also, I can't recall if he's ever done this in past years, but he specifically called people out - players and coaches alike - much more than I can remember, so it's good to see that level of accountability taking place, even if it's behind closed doors and we fans can't always see it.

They were so pretty out there.

    Brilliant contrast.

    Utterly orgasmic.

Allow me to be the first to say this. They were extremely ugly. I'll take the standard purple jersey with the white pants all day.

    Make up your mind son.

Better than last week at LG. Still impressed with his run blocking. He moves so damn well and he just knocks the crap out of defenders. Pass protection wasn't great, but looked better to me.

Agreed. He does a great job getting to the second level in the run game, but I hate seeing him get demolished by a defensive lineman in pass protection every now and then. He's a lot better going forwards than he is going backwards.

To clarify, I'm not saying it's going to be a 50/50 split of bad plays and great plays.  I think the good will eventually outweigh the bad, but we know how the bad ones always stick out.

Right, definitely understand your point. I'm just saying that I think the bad ones are due to the fact he's pretty much a rookie for all intents and purposes. A lot of the mistakes seem like things that he can correct once he gets some more experience in games to let the game slow down for him. Right now, I feel like he's in his own head on some of the dumb mistakes.

Perriman looks like he's always going to be an enigma.  He's going to make some boneheaded drops but also make some catches that seem impossible.  Right now, it looks like he's going to frustrate the hell out of you sometimes, but make you think you have a superstar on other occasions.  I think we'll really see that in him if/when the offense opens up a bit.

I think it's a bit early to say that. Remembering that this is essentially his rookie season, I think that as his playtime continues to increase, the amount of positive plays he makes increases as well. I was certainly frustrated with him on that drop on the deep ball, and yes, he definitely should've gotten that second foot down on the overturned TD play, but I expect him to see more of the flashy plays we've seen out of him, and fewer of the stupid drops and other frustrating plays. He's basically a rookie, and I think that's what we're seeing out of him now until the game begins to slow down for him.

  6. To come from behind after an abysmal first quarter, and then to hold strong and secure the win with a good enough defensive effort on that final drive says a lot. Yes, you can say it was against the Browns, and many things could've definitely gone much better. But this is exactly the kind of game we would've found multiple ways to lose last year, and this year we held strong, so I'll take the W.

I think you might need to google 4-3 defense. In a 4-3 defense, the OLB do not rush the passer unless blitzing (rarely as they must cover the underneath in Quarters and more important must cover the slot WR in Cover 2). So, why would you take Suggs & Doom and put them in a position where they don't rush the passer? Can you imagine Suggs or Doom trying to cover a slot WR like Randall Cobb or Jarvis Landry? This is not Madden.

Obviously not. In a 4-3, Suggs and Dumervil would play DE.

  8. Not with this dump, the current one isn't fit for a  D League team, let alone an NBA one.

There a team in the new ABA here, the Baltimore Hawks,  but the current version of the league is more like a huge semi pro organization.

Yeah, its truly unfortunate. I think this would be a great market for an NBA team, the arena/stadium situation does certainly seem to be the biggest holdup.

  9. I would too, but given the number of turnovers on offense, as well as the offense having a 33 percent 3rd down conversion rate, I would argue that the offense consistently gave the other team short fields, making it relatively easy to score. The number of three and outs we had, while we had Flacco and after he went down, was abysmal. We rank 24th in 3rd down conversions, which is pretty bad. We also rank 31st in turnover differential, which is horrendous.

According to this chart from Football Outsiders, we were about middle of the pack (17th) in our opponents average starting field position per drive. Meanwhile offensively, we were 18th in time of possession on offense. These aren't great numbers, but I don't think our offense can be blamed quite as much for our 24th ranking in points allowed. I prefer to think our defense was simply bad when we faced good offenses, such as the blowout vs. the Seahawks, or at times even just average offenses, like when Josh McCown threw for over 450 yards on us.

I do certainly agree that our offense could've done more to help out, and changes certainly need to be made there as well. But I think certain stats, such as the 8th in total defense, are quite deceiving. Our defense was all too often really bad.

  10. When you can generate pass rush, it makes a bad secondary look a whole lot better than it actually is. That would've helped a ton this year obviously. Without him, we clearly are generating very little pass rush, unless we're sending half the defense at the QB on 3rd down as Pees usually does. His loss hurt big time.

  11. Considering what he has to work with, I've been pleased. I will say I've been especially impressed with some of the route combinations he's drawn up. The guy is incredibly clever when it comes to drumming up ways to get receivers open who typically struggle to get open. I think this offense could potentially be very potent with some receivers who actually show up to play, outside of Steve.

  12. During a interview today Elam sId he lost about 5% of body fat and has gotten leaner and faster. Was his weight or speed ever the issue? I thought it was his tackling and coverage.

That's what's sad. Those are basically the two things you do as a safety.

That being sad, getting leaner and quicker is good. Now to learn some technical skills.

  13. This article that was in today's Late for Work made me feel a ton more hopeful about the concerns with Perriman's hands.

Basically in the article, Perriman's college coach talks about him being the big play threat. As a result, he was constantly running the deep plays in practice, which wore him down by game day. As the season went on, they reduced his reps in practice to keep him fresh, and sure enough as Harbs pointed out, Perriman's hands improved towards the end of the season.

I played wide receiver in high school, and I know exactly what Perriman's coach is talking about. When you're fresh and running a route, the route running is easy and you can put all of your focus into making the catch. But when you're tired, you have to exert so much extra effort in running a crisp route that you can't turn your focus over to making the catch quickly enough, occasionally leading to a drop. This was a phenomenon that I experienced several times in high school practices.

After reading those comments, I honestly feel a whole lot better about Perriman's hands. Hopefully we look back on all of these concerns as an afterthought after this season.

  14. Finished season 2 of Orange Is The New Black today. Boy, what an finale. The show probably isn't too popular around these parts, but I love it. There are just so many incredibly well-developed characters with intriguing backstories, and excellent mostly-unknown actresses playing these characters. I am very much looking forward to season 3.
