If Schaub is holding anything but a clipboard for more than a game, something terrible has happened. In that awful circumstance, keep the interceptions rolling and wait for Ozzie magic in the spring. I'm a foolish fan, but the hope of having a starting-calibur backup does not make sense to me. With the salary cap what it is and the rookie wage scale, I think I'd rather have high draft picks than a mediocre season with an overpaid backup if the franchise guy goes down. They need to be proficient for the scout team and knowledgeable on the sideline - Schaub hits those check boxes. Interceptions from the backup QB in training camp don't matter in the big picture.

Can someone explain why it matters if the Ravens tipped off Indy? Is there some code in the NFL that you're supposed to let the patriots cheat? Not saying the Ravens should admit to something they didn't do, but shouldn't the whistleblowers (other than the refs that didn't do anything) get praise instead of media scrutiny? Please let the season start soon so we can start talking football instead of Bradyball.

I'm glad you brought this up. There are lots of factors that limit an equal comparison between the two receivers - division matches being one. Torrey is also walking into a new head coach and the potential bust that comes with that situation. If Torrey was heading into Jim Harbaugh's locker room, I think that he would have a better chance (despite the turmoil). Also, what's the state of the Niner's O-line and running game? Only rare talent receivers can take a team past flaws in the trenches. Given the constellation of other factors, I think Perriman has more yards - not based on talent, that question remains unanswered - but purely based on situation. Ravens survived a post-Super bowl rebuild, Niners did not.

I think we can all agree, the Oher comment is silly news. Bust is a potential label for all first rounders regardless of their box office numbers. I'm sure Ozzie watched more tape than "The Blind Side" before he entered the pick. With both Ravens and Steelers D rebuilds, pundits are always going to give the benefit of legacy. The difference is that Steelers have rebuilt their D over decades, so that line of credit is a little deeper with critics. Setting aside legacies, the Ravens are clearly in a better immediate position in restocking their D - proven older leadership vets (Suggs, Dum, D. Smith), a couple selfless vets willing to restructure or give hometown discounts (Webb, J. Smith), a huge group of talented young guys who are already performing, AND continuity in coaching. My favorite part of these couple years has been watching Ozzie and Harbaugh perfect the art of a player/coaching pipeline. I don't think the steelers have consistently hit on all cylinders the way the Ravens FO has recently. Ask the other perennial AFC powerhouses who they currently fear. The answer is probably the dudes in purple and black!

While I think the punishment was too lenient given the Pat's long and storied history of breaking rules, or abusing gaps in the rulebook, I think the real outcome is yet to come. If we see a major decrease in Brady's productivity or an increase in his fumbles and botched snaps can we infer that he's cheated his entire career? And if so, does that put an asterisk next to the past decade of football? Will the Pat's legacy be the same mark on football as the steroid era in baseball?
