  1. Week in and week out we complain about ALL the missed tackles by Elam who was a high draft pick. Melvin an undrafted practice squad guy made more noise in 3 games than Elam has all season. He didn't have a great game tonight, but he didn't have a terrible one either. I like his upside. An off-season with this team and he'll be even better.

  2. But back to Melvin, since getting his shot I would honestly say he's been our best cornerback.

I found it very telling that the Steelers chose to attack Webb early and often instead of testing the largely unproven Melvin. Tells me that the tape shows and supports my belief that he's outplayed

every cb this year not named Jimmy Smith - albeit

    with limited time.

He's been a beast in bump and run, plays the ball in the air and for the most part has tackled well on the few receptions he's given up.

If he continues to play at this level lock him up.

While I agree that pre-snap some QBs will notice a 1-on-1 matchup and will throw to a certain WR b/c he recognizes a mismatch.  I rarely think when a QB drop backs and has to go through his progressions/options he says, "oh Webb is playing him let me throw his way".  A QB usually has less than 4 seconds to make a pass, that happens so fast, the QB is looking for the receiver that is open regardless of who's defending him.

I read a comment from Flacco yesterday, he basically said he's gonna throw to whoever is open even if that WR/TE is being defended by Reavis.

  3. Oh Johnny Boy. Not an arrest but Manziel finds himself in the middle of crap again.

Via TMZ.com, the Browns quarterback had an encounter with hecklers at a Houston nightclub. He reportedly flipped them the bird. And they reportedly threw drinks at him.

Manziel reportedly left the club, changed clothes, and then returned after being assured by security that the troublemakers had been given the boot.

  4. He's a FA in the offseason, but he also may strongly consider retirement, as he will be 34/35 next season.

I doubt the Ravens would bring him back as anything more than depth. We've got some pretty solid youth/depth on the DL.

Agreed, Kapron Lewis-Moore and Brent Urban are two who I hope can provide quality depth.

  5. I think Redding is a guy we could well re-sign this off-season. Just a hunch, especially if we cut both or one of Canty and Ngata, which is possible. I think if we cut Ngata, we'll sign Redding or someone similar.

How long is Redding's contract w/ the Colts?

  6. Yeah, that's huge.

Also, the victim just filed a protective order against Sanders. Would she go through all this trouble if it was made up?

I'm sure her attorney advised her to do so.  It makes her case "look" stronger.  I'm not saying it wasn't necessary,

but completely falls in line w/ what I would expect an attorney to suggest to his client.

  7. @jemillerwbal: Allegation of 4th deg sex offense vs Ravens Security Chief Darren Sanders filed by stadium cleaning crew employee. Sanders' atty: not true

Cleaning crew? Could be someone complaining of inappropriate touching when he simply physically moved the person out of the way.

Never even heard of 4th degree before.

Fourth degree sexual assault might be simply sexual contact without consent or with consent that was obtained as a result of a position of authority the offender had over the victim.

  8. I'm hoping we don't have to worry about being completely reliant on someone like Melvin next year, although I do think he's been impressive in his short time so far.  Ideally he's the #4/5 on the depth chart, as we know he can at least step up and handle a larger role if injuries necessitate it.

In my mind, I'm really hoping our depth chart shapes up as...

#1: Jimmy Smith (hoping he recovers from the lisfranc of course)

#2: Lardarius Webb (hoping that he continues playing as he has lately)

#3: Veteran FA (more of a mid tier guy, nothing too expensive)

#4: High-Mid Round Pick (someone to develop for the future when Webb's contract becomes even more of a hindrance)

#5: Rashaan Melvin (could slide up to 4 depending on the pick)

#6: Asa Jackson (could honestly take him or leave him)

Even if this scenario played out, Melvin AT LEAST deserves the #4 spot over an unproven rookie.

If we have a deep playoff run and Melvin more than holds his own vs the talented QBs in the playoffs, I personally feel the 3rd CB spot is his to lose going into camp. He would have earned it plus he's salary cap friendly.
