  1. We have a list of players and know that there are too many selections between now and us. Just hate seeing that list get whittled down. Every player picked that isn't on that list is a relief. Zay was definitely on the list, so that hurt.

Still guys on there ... the pick cant come to us soon enough

    KIPER IS A GOD !!!!

Did Kiper have him 28 on his board - or in his mock? There is a difference. He was Kipers 5th BPA when we took him, which means if every single player selected was ahead of Humphrey on his board, the worst he could have been would have been 21st. I know he did not have any QB in the top 20 (3 were taken) ... guarantee there were a couple others picked ahead of us that weren't ahead of Humphrey on his board - so that puts him at around, what ... 16?

it was a tongue in cheek comment btw

So please, enlighten us ... name me the player who, if we take them in round 2, you won't be whining about? Actually list multiple, in order, as certainly some that you would want will get taken before us.

We would need to trade up to like the top 5 (in the 2nd round) to get lamp. Wonder what that would take

Yeah and I seriously doubt we do that. I have to think we're looking at keeping all 3 of our 2nd and 3rd round picks, because we just have too many holes to fill to be sacrificing any of them in a trade up.

yup..this forum just goes into a denial out of for the love of ozzie love fest.

I said huff was one of most non-instinctive players that we could sign and was only an athlete. I got a plethora of negs and what do you know? Ozzie knows best..

he probably would have drafted him 2006 as aside from reed he's never shown interest in guys that ballhawk over guys that run and jump

I'm just sorry the organization is fashioning DeCosta to take over the reigns after that senile hack calls it quits and not you. If you were half the savant you claim to be, you'd be the best GM in the league.

Yea, and when they made those predictions, were they considering Conley's mess and Sidney's injury? We picked the second best corner available. He might not start at first but he will be a starter eventually.

Sure, you want someone who CAN start right away, but it's better if you don't HAVE to.

True ... but the hopes would be that he can be better than Carr in pretty short order ... and we may have to if we suffer an injury (which has been the norm, not the exception).

  7. OMG folks - take this hand wringing crap to the draft thread ....

Welcome to the Ravens, Marlon Humphrey! You are coming into a quality organization that has a winning tradition and want to build on that with your talent. There are definitely worse places to land.

Bring some swagger, confidence and give 110% ... another words ... PLAY LIKE A RAVEN!

Yes because Ozzie drafted him. Not everybody has the biasedness for Bama. Most teams after us probably liked different cornerbacks. If we didn't draft him can't say he would of been next cornerback drafted. I have read posts here calling about 5 different cornerbacks the best in the draft. Humphrey isn't one of those cornerbacks.

Anybody saying he was BPA or best cornerback show some proof everybody you have Humphrey so high on your board. After ravens draft him everybody goes on an Easter egg hunt looking for somebody calling Humphrey a top10 pick. Show us anybody posting about that before last night. Show us a mock on this board with him the No.2 cornerback taken.

I'm just not exactly sure why I'm supposed to take the word of Mike Mayock (or any other analyst) over Ozzies. I'm not seeking to justify the pick by hunting for someone who will provide reassurance. None of these guys are our GM. Ozzie is. Until he retires or we fire him (not bloody likely), that's the guy I'm going to assume knows more than someone who writes for NFL network or any of these other self-styled gurus.

I've had some reasons to not be thrilled with how the 1st round broke for us, but none have to do with where the guy we picked sat on some writer's big board.

I'd grab Dalvin Cook if he's there. He could be our next Ray Rice. Then maybe trade to get another second and pick up Zay or JuJu. Or trade for Jordan Matthews/pick up Anquan after the draft. Just thinking out loud. I am worried about our pass rush though.

I am too - which is why I'm really hoping the right guy is still there and we address that with #47

I have a good feeling we have king Dunlap on speed dial. We're looking for a center.

Or DJ fluker and kick Marshall to RT

Giants already grabbed Fluker. Basically, anyone who could be considered a serviceable starter at any position on the o line should be on our speed dial and depending on what we come away with in days 2 and 3, we need to start calling the second we've finished filling out our undrafted group.

Yes. Tim Williams and Carl Lawson are 1st round talents imo. Top 20 talents even. But Tim Williams is falling bc of off the field issues and limited sample size. But Ozzie will be able to get the real scoop on him and if he feels comfortable with him itd be a great pick at 47.

Lawson has fallen bc of injuries. But his senior year he finally stayed healthy and showed what he can do. Both are the type of super athletic, twitchy speed rushers weve needed for a while now... and have proven the ability to be very productive in college footballs toughest conference.

Tyus Bowser and Jordan Willis i put at a tier slightly below them but are appropriate values for where we're picking imo. Both are much more raw but had elite testing numbers. Both are probably more of a projection of what you can do with their insane athletic talents, and carry some risk bc of the level of competition they played. But their upside is that of many of the 1st round pass rushers.

Derek Rivers i put behind that even and may be a 3rd round consideration if available. Also Myles Garret's team mate at A&M is apparent high on a lot of boards and alot think his traits project well to an all around 3 down edge player. Very good against the run with the traits to develop into a quality edge rusher.

OL i think we'll have options in round 3, though if Cam Robinson or Lamp is there, and our top edge rushers available go before us -- itd be tough to pass either one up.

Dion Dawkins, Dorian Johnson, Dan Feeney and Pat Elflein are guys that under other circumstances (not needing a pass rusher with quality ones on the board) id have no problem taking in the 2nd round and 1 or 2 may be available come round 3. Any of them could be a plug and play starter on the line at LG or C. Feeney and Elflein could prob do well at either LG or C. Johnson is prob only a LG but hes an absolute mauler with a heavy base and serious anchor. Dawkins may be able to kick out to RT but hes a mean boy with serious strength and nastiness. Id love any of them, though love Tim Williams and Carl Lawson especially a bit more.

We're in very good position being a team that doesnt need to panic about getting a CB now. We can sit tight and reap the benefits.

    Thanks for that!

I'm really of the mind that, if we don't come away with an edge rusher at #47, we're going to have to live with what we have. For all the reassurances by the organization to say that we've got edge rushers on the roster, they just need to develop - I think that is wishful thinking. We need to get A LOT better at getting after the QB than we been have in the last couple years.

I also pray we can get starter-ready O line help immediately in the 3rd. As for WR - we need help, but I'm afraid we can't have our cake and eat it too. I don't see us filling all needs in this draft - at least not for the coming year. To expect more than 3 starters (and I mean quality starters) is asking for a lot.

The chances of us passing on Lamp if he's there is very minimal. I don't think we'll pass on him.

The chances of him being there at all is also minimal. For many, it is a surprise he didn't go ahead of some of the other O line guys that have already been selected.

  13. Based on our comments about failing to trade up, we clearly coveted either Reddick or Barnett. I wanted to see us nail an edge rusher in round 1 rather than a CB, since by all accounts, CB is strong in this draft and there are guys still on the board that many find comparable to Humphrey. Edge rusher seems it will be a lot more challenging a slot to fill.

So guys, who are the potential round 2 edge rushers that we may be able to land in round 2? If we go that route, can we nail a potential starter on the O line in round 3? I'm of the mind that if we go O line in round 2, we will not be getting an effective edge rusher in this draft.

  14. Understandably, when you pick someone at 16 that most analysts had in the 30s on their big boards, your not going to get a lot of post-round 1 love in the press. All I can hope is that our guys see something that the analysts don't and we'll all warm up to this pick.

Bottom line is this dude's gonna need to perform and honestly, if he isn't a starter across from Jimmy to start the season, that will add to the disappointment. I know many will say you can't expect CBs to start right away, but you normally hope that when you pick 16 you are getting a day 1 starter.

  15. I know a lot of people seem disappointed. I can't help but feel a little of it myself, mainly when I hear that we wanted to trade up and failed to do so. That tells me we coveted either Reddick or Barnett. I went in hoping for WRs Williams or Davis (those hopes were quickly dashed) or I wanted edge rush with Reddick or Barnett. By all accounts, CB is strong in this draft and there are guys still on the board that many find comparable to Humphrey. Edge rusher seems it will be a lot more challenging a slot to fill. I don't know that there will be anyone remotely comparable to Reddick or Barnett when we're on the clock in day 2.

I was fine until Harbaugh started talking about what a great special teams player he was and how he didn't need to play right away and his performance would determine whether he plays or not.  That makes me feel warm and fuzzy about the pick.

No one is gifted with a starting job. So, it is a bad thing that he's a good special teams player?

John Harbaugh had to say he is a really good special teams player regarding Humphrey! I bet you Harb influenced this pick again with his special teams requirement. I am just so angry right now.

I'm pretty sure that was an extra added benefit, not the rationale for having selected him.

I don't think Harbs has as much influence on the pick as you think. You should listen to Bliick's interview before the draft ... The HC has a voice, but the FO makes the decisions. Hopefully Marlon eat your words.
