I'll start off by saying that injuries always have and always will be a part of contract sports, but it seems that some of these injuries are preventable. I'm not talking about head injuries. The media has placed enough pressure on the NFL to take action on those. I'm talking about muscle, ligament, and tendon injuries that seem to pile up every year. We are 5 weeks in and we've lost Suggs, Camp, Elam, and Davis for the year. Canty, Perriman, and Doom have also suffered ligament/tendon/muscle injuries. I'm aware that some other teams have it worse than us, but my question is, do the Ravens and other NFL teams have biomechanist and training staff that focus on fixing movement dysfunction and preventing injuries? Do they fund research to discover other factors that may lead them to believe a player has X% chance of being injured. Considering the investment teams make for their players, the obvious answer would be "yes", but then look at a player like RG3, a #2 overall pick. Not only did he have a history of injuries coming into the league, but look at this picture from the 2012 Combine. http://static1.squarespace.com/static/5160bb45e4b0e13a258812c8/t/546e14e0e4b0f81008bb0669/1416500448964/ Those mechanics are just ugly and any sophomore student of exercise science could tell you that he is at risk of an ACL. I understand the Redskins aren't the best franchise to make an example out of, but there were many other teams willing to draft this guy if he was available. Maybe there are other factors including player personality, balance, reaction time, genetics, biomechanics, that teams should be looking at before investing so much in a player that could end up on the bench making millions.
