  1. Absolutely, life begins for football players when they sign a Ravens contract. Prior to that, as far as we are concerned, they simply don't exist. They simply ooze through this sub-Raven primordial NFL culture and the zap of becoming a Raven actually brings them to life. Kind of like player evolution.
  2. Not to be a stick in the mud, but if anyone is playing HARDER and practicing MORE INTENSELY or STUDYING MORE FILM since Smith is retiring, then we have a problem here. One would think, with the money they make and the small window they are offered to win the Super Bowl, that everyone should have been all in before Smith announced his retirement.
  3. Injuries will happen I agree, but it is concerning when it is the same players over and over. Some players are blessed with their genetics and some are cursed by them, that is just fact. I am sure it is just a matter of time (if they don't already do it) before they start analyzing Dna and identifying players who have muscle issues (Campanaro), bone issues (Pitta), and those who have muscle-to-bone/ligament-to-bone issues (Urban, Lewis-Moore). Not to say DNA testing will choose a roster, but it will provide supporting information to go along with injury stats to help a team determine after one or two missed seasons, that player isn't ever going to be able to play in the NFL. As we have seen with other players, Ravens usually give these players two years to get it together. By the third year, they had better be productive or they will get cut. I think Lewis-Moore, Elam (because of unproductive years), Urban, M Brown, Pitta and a few others are on their last leg (I know that was a poor idiom to use).
  4. Just want to say that the pundits were comparing this receiver class to the previous class as far as talent and production. However, this draft class may actually be the most injured class in history. Of the top 6 receivers in the draft Kevin White, Davonte Parker and Breshad Perriman are all injured and missing significant practice. Amari Cooper, Phillip Dorsett and Nelson Agholar are the only ones practicing but are getting few first team reps. This is a great opportunity for Perriman to shine and work towards that NFL rookie of the year award if he can get on the field.
  5. I don't know about anyone else, but my recollections of Pollard were personal foul penalty after personal foul penalty, taunting a Colts assistant from the playing field, not showing up for the ring ceremony and dissing Harbaugh then continuing that dissing long into his tenure with the Titans, starting a mutiny because he didn't want to practice in pads (though the team was sucking), a stupid dance on "Hard Knocks" and one good hit on Patriots running back, Ridley. With the baggage he carries, unless he was the last best safety on planet earth, I wouldn't sign him.
  6. After reading some of the comments people post, I find it hard to believe that people in here are complaining about someone's grammar and spelling? The same commenters who use words like "ya" for you and "is" for his or "browns" instead of Browns are criticizing this guy. Some people's glass houses must have all the windows broken out.
  7. Why would you want to "transition" Zo to a position when he is much better in the role he plays. Then you would lose the better players in 2 position. Why mess with what is working. The position is obsolete in some offenses that have phased it out, it is not obsolete in our offense though. "Juice" has developed into one of the better blocking backs in the league, is a great pass catcher and is versatile enough if we lose a tight end or two he can fill in. Zo looks to get a lot of carries as a running back and is also developing his skills in the pass catching arena and you help my argument by saying he has lost weight. That makes no sense at all which is why I defer roster decisions to Ozzie.
  8. If there is any doubt or question as to what was texted or sent they can have access to the Ravens phones. Why? because they didn't have anything to hide so they didn't destroy them. Seems like those in glass houses are throwing stones and in the process they are destroying their own home. Brady continues to dig his own hole and he thinks that as long as he sticks to his story and destroys the evidence that he is safe. Didn't seem to work to well for Aaron Hernandez. Just because you have PFT as a personal media outlet, and you have the resources to scream loud and long, the truth still always comes out and Brady is guilty, will be suspended and his reputation forever will be tarnished. Because Kraft got Goodell to bow down and kiss his rings on spygate, he now thinks that he can get Goodell to protect him no matter what and somewhere between spygate and deflategate, Goodell actually grew a pair.
  9. Daryl Smith is under contract until 2018, Brown is under contract until 2017. No sense keeping Brown because he will never see the field and if you can get a pizza and a 6 pack of pepsi, make the deal because otherwise you will get nothing from him. Between McLellan and Orr we have backups.
  10. Accurate but a little cold and callous. I think it could have been phrased a little different. However, this should be a lesson to every first round pick who thinks he has it made. He got his payday and immediately thought about how he was going to make money when his career ended so he took his first off season and played sales boy at a shoe store instead of taking every possible opportunity to practice and hone his craft. The lesson is if you focus your resources on what you are doing after football instead of developing those football skills, the sooner you will be selling sneakers to kids as a has-been, or never was. Never waste the time you have now thinking you can show up tomorrow because sometimes, tomorrow never comes. Elam may have fired his last shot as a Raven.
  11. With a loaded wide receiver corps seems to me that Tom Nelson would stand a better chance making the team if he switched back to safety which was his natural position.
  12. The other day someone commented about the LFW articles digging for material and said he hoped the season would soon start. I replied saying that just wait for training camp to start and we will get some great articles and sure enough Sarah doesn't disappoint. My Steelers banner would say "quit bragging about 4 SB's U had nothing to do with" Except it would take a 747 to pull that statement but if I had the money, that's what I would say.
  13. One bad pass? Okay, it was a bad pass but Torrey didn't even try to break it up. But lets just accept what you say to be fact. Joe threw one bad pass. What happened with the other 28 points the Patriots scored? If Joe had one bad pass, how is he responsible for the other 28 points that had nothing to do with him? It is easy to look at one play and say, "that cost us the playoffs", but it is not accurate, it is not fair, and it doesn't adequately represent the 30+ points Joe put on the board and the two 14 point leads that were lost. I believe it is a cop out for people who want to blame Joe regardless, but it is your opinion and I respect you have the right to express your opinion no matter how slanted, wrong and unfair it is.
  14. This isn't Webb's first rodeo, he knows what the test consists of and to not be able to pass that test, when he should have been doing it daily for the last week shows a level of unconcern that worries me. Webb is supposed to be a leader but leaders don't come to camp and fail their conditioning test. Suggs is a perfect example. If I am a cornerback in the room full of cornerbacks, my respect for Webb just took a hit and when he tells me I should be doing something a particular way, I weigh that against him doing what he should have been doing in the off season that he didn't. I am very disappointed but he is a Raven and he will get it together.
  15. I don't think they cut Waller. I think they will cut Jensen at center because they have Uerschel who can and did play that position when they needed someone to sub for Zuttah. Jensen hasn't shown anything other than injuries and I would take a shot at another WR before carrying a player who has spent more time on the injured report than on the active roster.
  16. As many others have said here, for what little we have seen of him he is relatively impressive. It's easy to remember him "going Randy" on the Tampa CB in the memorable 5 TD in 16.5 minute game last year. And he showed here and there. But there were games when we really needed someone to get seperation and he didn't get it done. Of course, you have to wonder if the injuries played into that. I think if he got a whole season, he'd be able to develop into that Wes Welker, "7-11", always open type of guy.
  17. The Harvard study is basically an evaluation based on 7 on 7 play. Last I looked there were 11 people on the field in football and they have a coach. To not consider the coach in the evaluation is an insult to John Harbaugh and his staff and the input they have into the game. They are assuming that coaches make no difference in the player output in a game. So the premise of the study is flawed and therefore so are the results. As another commenter put it, GIGO. Garbage in, Garbage out.
  18. With training camp starting today, I see that changing tomorrow. Training camp and pre-season offer more fodder for stories and for fan comments than the regular season because the speculation and hopes are so high amongst all of us. Plus there are 90 players to talk about not just 53. From on field to touching off field stories, the next 4 - 6 weeks offer some of the best articles and comments of the season. Of course, if we get to the playoffs, it really gets interesting, but I really like this part of the year. The new players, the vets fighting for positions, the questions surrounding the offense and defense and all the rookies we are counting on. I am a die hard Hard Knocks fan and that is why I really love the preseason. Also, got into training camp through the lottery so I am stoked. I am salivating already......
  19. Carl Davis or Za'Darius Smith. I think both Perriman and Williams will be overwhelmed by the NFL experience and becoming prolific on defense is a lot easier than doing it on the offense.
  20. Regardless of whether or not Pitta starts the season on the PUP list or on the roster, between Maxx Williams and Crocket Gilmore we have two of the coolest names for TE's in the league. Maaaaaaaaaxxxxxxxxxx!!!!
  21. I do not worry about wide receiver or tight end. Many may be concerned with the youth in those positions but I have a ton of confidence in our young guys. Every team has to be young somewhere due to the salary cap. No team can afford to fill its ranks with quality veterans at every position. We have our vets in the O-Line, at Linebacker, at QB, at running back and in our secondary where we need it most. With Flacco developing and maturing, I believe he is at the point in his career where his confidence and skill levels will allow him to bring along our young receivers. My guess is Flacco will be there to throw with the young guys starting tomorrow and will hang out at training camp until the last person leaves. That has always been the way Flacco operates and he is becoming more mature and more of a leader every year. I have my money on Flacco being a 4500 yard passer in the Trestman system, making the pro-bowl, and finally getting the respect he has deserved since 2010.
  22. "Buck" Allen is a big boy and a very good pass receiver. He may be what could be considered a 3rd down back for the Ravens. His size suits well to blocking for Flacco and his hands make him good for the check down. I know Forsett has done very well, but he is a little older and giving 3rd down plays to Allen may make Forsett productive for a couple more years.
  23. I hate to comment twice on the same article but Sarah had such a good LFW today. What happens to Ravens who really produce and work themselves into a big payday? Is the question here, "Will Perriman be good enough to earn his way out of Baltimore?" Which brings up the next question, "Will the Ravens finally pay a receiver what he is worth in the open market?" I certainly hope for the next 5 years Perriman is sooooo good, we have to ask these questions.
  24. Vinnie Cerrato of 105.7 the fan has been the main instigator of commentary on Joe not working out with receivers. Since he has chosen to give it a break this year, there is no commentary. You didn't hear people on ESPN, or NFL Network or any other media outlet complaining about Flacco. That was a solely a product of the Baltimore talk radio environment and all the morons who grab ahold of what a loser GM has to say when he cant buy a job in the NFL so he is an "expert" on the radio.
  25. "His client became the second-fastest kicker in NFL history to reach the 400-point milestone, doing so in his 48th game." I don't know if I can make my argument in this space. I commented previously about Flacco being a product of the system. He is not a 4000 yard/year passer because of the conservative system the Ravens play in. The same conservative system, where we run first and pass second. We run consistently in the first 3 quarters, we run when we are ahead and we run when we want to burn the clock. The same reason Joe is not a 4000 yard/year passer is the same reason Tucker is the second fastest kicker to 400 points. If we didn't have a conservative offense, we would be scoring and passing more meaning Tucker wouldn't be kicking so much and therefore not reaching these records. Is he good, absolutely, but like many Ravens players, when he leaves this system, will he have the same opportunities to score, the same opportunities to kick. I think Tucker is worth the same money Gostkowski got, absolutely, but we have great scouts who found Tucker and Ozzie knows when too much is too much and we will see whether the most important person, Ozzie, thinks he is worth it.
