I would have to say the biggest thing I was upset about was passing on Myles Jack, I understand his knee problem and that we still got a great player. In my opinion he just isnt a player that you can pass on in the 2nd round, not only is he a top 5 player when healthy but he is so versatile that he can play any level on the Defense. I understand with the injuries we have had on the team and Perriman missing all of last year it was hard to spend a high pick on another questionable player. However I think we could of got a higher pick in return for trading down. While Jack has rare athleticism and would look good next to CJ, I think you have to ask if he's worth more by himself than Correa + Moore + Judon.

I think the problem is trading back when your picking so early. That is not BPA because obviously your trading back, meaning higher valued players get picked first. Anytime you need to count on many players being drafted, you sacrifice talent for bodies to some degree. The less holes you have the less picks you need generally and the more you can hyper focus on talent. Ravens have been pitching the non-rebuilding mode, but this draft suggests otherwise. It's maybe not a tear down rebuild, but it's a ongoing gutting and replacing from the old regime to this new regime. Not necessarily. Let's say the the Ravens graded Correa, Spence and Ogbah similarly/at the same level (for the sake of argument). If you're convinced that at least one of them will be there 5-10 spots after your draft position, the smart move is to trade back, get more picks, and still get one of the players you liked. In essence, you're still getting BPA and more picks to boot.

Exactly. Like I said in another thread, once people realize that there's a 99.9% chance that the Ravens aren't going to pick their guy, they'll be able to enjoy the draft a whole lot more.

We've had 3 consecutive years of secondaries that have gotten shredded, years by the way in which, on aggregate, we have a losing record. In those years we've had no serious 2nd starting calibre CB and have stuck an undersized coverted safety with 2 torn acls as our 2nd corner in Webby. I wouldn't consider this "nailing everything so far." We haven't drafted this high in over a decade and what's the first inkling? Draft a LT and trade back twice to stockpile mediocre players. Good reply. Kool-aid drinkers are not logical or deal in facts. Critizism is not a negative but a opposite view. You might have a point if that's what's been happening. Rather, it's a case of the worst homers of all, the "anti-homer homer" (easily identified by the propensity to use "kool-aid" and "purple-colored glasses" to describe other fans) simply criticizing every thing the team does in an effort to prove that they are the real/true fans.

I find it absolutely amusing how hard some posters take it when the Ravens don't take their guy...you know, the guy they heard about by looking at a mock draft or reading a draft profile...maybe watching 5 minutes of highlights on you tube in their spare time. The sooner people realize that the Ravens are most likely not going to draft their guy the more they'd be able to enjoy the draft and new prospects we get.

Buckner is overrated. He had 10.5 sacks against marginal college teams. Jernigan is a much better pass rusher. And last I checked, the draft is not over - Myles Jack, Noah Spence, Ogbah, Dodd all still on the board - all as good as or better PR than Buckner. Yeah, I don't get it. Buckner is a 5-tech DE, which in the Ravens scheme is a run-stopping position. The rush is designed to come from the Leo (Suggs), 3-tech (Jernigan), and Sam (Doom) positions. In fact, for those clamoring that the Ravens needed an "impact play maker" at 6, I'd argue that Buckner's position is the least impactful one in the front 7. Drafting him that high would be like taking an OG with the 6th pick. Considering how some feel about taking an LT with the pick I find this "we should've taken Buckner" talk quite silly.

So, you can still get a high quality pass rusher in addition to potentially locking down the LT spot for a decade. So far this draft is shaping up well for the Ravens. Forgot to add that there are also guys like Judon and Ngakoue that will likely be there in the 4th.

Don't believe everything the mock drafts suggest - for a lot of times those who make the mocks are in the dark just as much as we, simple fans are... It was not at all sure that the Browns would have picked a QB - if that was their real intent, they wouldn't traded the #2 pick, would they? And anyway, more and more draft analyses concluded that the Browns would have much more probably picked one of the real stars of the class: Tunsil, Ramsey or Jack - maybe even Elliott. Or, let's say they really loved one QB, but weren't sold on the other. It didn't matter before because Tenn. wasn't going to take a QB, so their guy was guaranteed to be there. With LA trading to 1 to take a QB, there's now a 50% chance that you'd be stuck with a QB you weren't sold on. Why risk it when you could get more picks and a chance at a top non-QB talent by moving down a few spots?

The compensatory pick formula is based mainly on the size of the contract the leaving FA gets from his new team, and to a lesser extent, the amount of playing time. So, even though Tyrod is starting for his new team and may make the playoffs, his contract was so small that we'll be lucky to get a 7th round comp pick for him. The only hope for a third rounder would be McPhee, but he's more likely a 4th.

I know I've said this before, but if you want to put Perriman's injury into perspective, look no further than Keenan Allen (who was mocked to the Ravens in the first round). I can't believe people have forgotten already. Allen suffered a grade 2 PCL sprain in October of his junior year, and missed the rest of the season. He then declared for the draft, but his injury hadn't healed 4 months later for the Combine, so he didn't participate. In April, 6 months later, he estimated that he was only 85% for his pro day...no that's the longest healing PCL in history. Since he started playing, however, I have yet to hear of anyone calling him soft or a bust (he's only missed one game since his rookie season, and I think everyone would agree that he's a pretty darn good receiver.

Not really mysterious - they originally thought it was just a bone bruise, but when the swelling went down enough for an MRI, they could see a PCL strain. He's most likely looking at a grade 1 or 2 sprain, and the bruise may be complicating the recovery (they're unpredictable). But, given the general time frame for a recovery from a grade 2 sprain, he's pretty much right on track.

I know I'm a bit late to this thread, but to back up your argument a bit, since 2008, the Ravens are 17-7 in September games under Flacco; Peyton Manning's teams are 14-6 during the same period.

Oddly, according to the NFL Transaction Report, Jeremy Ross, Konrad Reuland (and Charles James) are not offiially on the practice squad: We'll see what happens tomorrow. Would think everything is straightened out by practice (I imagine they want to get these guys on the field ASAP).

According to the NFL transaction report, as of 9/7, the Ravens have only 8 players officially added to the Practice Squad. For whatever reason, Konrad Reuland and Jeremy Ross (I guess you could throw in James too) haven't been officially added. Perhaps they'll release Reuland since they just signed Jones (he's on the list), then add Ross and James or an RB...then decide which of the 3 gets promoted to the 53 when Urban is designated, with the other two to the PS. Or, they could have been late filing paperwork...
