Not to mention many have daughters, wives and sisters themselves.
Tough to go home to your wife or your daughter after drafting, paying, or playing someone like that.
Dont get me wrong. People should get second chances in life. People can redeem themselves. But being paid millions of dollars to play a game is a PRIVILEGE. Not everyone deserves a 2nd chance to be a millionaire role model with a nice, easy lifestyle. And no one has to give them a 2nd chance.
I like that we have a 0 tolerance attitude towards this now. And I hope these guys can turn things around.

Can't say well we couldn't draft this all pro or that all pro. If we draft a receiver that sucks and he is great and keeps out of trouble there will be no excuses when offense fails
See - this is why i cant take some fans seriously.
Thats hindsight analysis. Unfortunately real life doesnt work that way.
If they do draft him and he hits a woman on camera --- they lose their jobs and everyone calls for their head. Period. Theyre untouchable now. All Pro or not; and whether or not Ray Rice ever happened, some times you do have to take a moral stand. Win at all costs??? Nah. Because I know we can win while maintaining some integrity.
Its certainly a fine line and you cant have a team of choir boys. But punching women in the face, choking them, raping them -- its far beyond the line. Who cares if you can ball if youre a Crap human being.
Redeem yourself. Go ahead. Just no on my time, or Bisciotti's dime.
You want him? You risk your money to pay him.
42 minutes ago, hn68wb4 said:I suppose they theoretically could if he's signed his tender, but the question isn't whether the Pats would be up for it, it's whether the Saints will. He's already made it clear that he's not playing until he's gotten a new contract, so the Saints would have to agree to trading a first round caliber player for 5 years in exchange for giving up that pick and a huge contract to even get Butler to play at all. From their point of view the value just isn't there.
Butler did sign his tender... that was my point. I doubt the Saints would trade either of the picks and have to sign Butler to a big deal, but was pointing out that they definitely could.
Obviously I'm still rooting 100% for Barnett or Mike Williams...
But hearing now a bunch of teams are high on him as i was originally, id actually be excited if we took Charles Harris.
He wouldnt be my 1st choice obviously. I want Barnett, Williams, Davis, Reddick or someone else thats not projected to be available that falls.
But theres a few guys that after thinking and reviewing the tape another round that arent really popular but id be excited about (because us picking them means the FO sees some of what i see, and are confident they can max these guys out):
Charles Harris, Tim Williams, Marlon Humphrey, and Takk.

duh, he will keep drives alives. get every 1st down. break every tackle needed to get to the 1st down marker, or through osmosis have marty call plays with routes that go beyond the marker, be an amazing returner, and he wont ever go down until we're in FG range.
It will just happen... obviously.... because..... See?!? There you go.
4 minutes ago, hn68wb4 said:Just an issue before I keep reading - If the Saints sign Butler then they give up #12, not #32, hence why it's not going to happen. If they were going to go ahead and give up the first for him they would have already done it, he's not worth the #12 pick AND a massive contract that he's demanding.
Why couldnt they trade #32 back to the Pats for Butler?
I personally wouldnt trade back up for Bolles... dont think the Ravens would either. Maybe for a top pass rusher, but not a RT. Especially when a guy like Dion Dawkins, Dan Feeney, Dorian Johnson and Pat Elflein will most likely be there for us to take in the 2nd/3rd.
And thats a long way for the Packers to fall in a loaded draft to only pick up a mid-3rd. Doubt theyd accept that as compensation.
I dont think theres any way Trey Hendrickson makes it to the 5th round either. id be surprised is he slips out of the 3rd.
And not a huge fan of waiting so long on edge rusher and CB. I'd feel like we totally missed out on this draft with it being so loaded at those two positions.
1 hour ago, JoeyFlex5 said:Am I the only one who wants to punch Charlie Campbell? He is changing around every teams mocks but he has been dead set on us taking cam Robinson and Chris wormley for weeks. I'd call for ozzies resignation if that was our first 2 rounds
Both he and Walter have had us taking Cam for weeks.
But I think Walter's pick of us taking Cam is 100% based on Charlie's "source" telling him we really like Cam at 16.
I think its just lazy BS. The only snippet he's heard about who we like is the, probably, loosely related source that tied us to Cam so hes sticking with it in the off chance its true, so he'll look like a genius while everyone else is mocking WR or pass rush.
With the 56th pick, the Oakland Rrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaiduhs select: (guess who announced this pick in my head)

Curtis Samuel, Offensive Weapon - THE Ohio State University

Torrey smith is a prime example, he over achieved by miles here in Baltimore because he's just an excellent human being who has been through hell and will succeed by appreciating his opportunities and making the most of them. If takk gets in here and busts his hump and learns to play like a pro then he can be really special
I'd look into it.

From having to escape a sort of kidnapping situation when really really young, to overcoming an absent mother, to avoiding the pitfalls that surrounded him during his adolescence and HS years and instead seeking out positive male role models to follow, to being overlooked as an athlete and breaking on the scene...
Its a good read. Will give you a different perspective and appreciation for the guy.
20 minutes ago, Ravens4Real said:Just don't like using a first rounder on an ILB. Especially when you already have one very good one. I don't think you need two stud ILB's.
We need a player at a postition which impacts the game more. OLB/WR/CB. I am of the mindset that these complementary positions can be filled in the later rounds. Postitions like G/C/ILB/DT.
For those reasons are why I'd be upset with Foster being our pick at 16.
Idk how id feel about Foster at this point, but i dont know about the argument of other positions necessarily impacting the game more. Guys up the middle really cant be schemed away from.
An edge rusher you can run off the other tackle, or attack the space hes leaving behind or get the ball out really quickly. A WR you can bracket or put a lock down CB on. A team can move WR's around to avoid a certain CB (though adding one here would give us good CBs all over the place)...
But having two stud ILB's can have an impact on literally every play... whether blitzing up the middle, tackling ball carriers from sideline to sideline, covering RBs, TEs, and slot receivers, etc....
Safeties can cover the whole field, prevent the big plays, come down and stuff runs, blitz to add pressure, cover TEs, etc...
Same with interior DL... quickest way to throw off a passing game is pressure right up the middle. QB cant step up into throws and it gets there much quicker so harder to just avoid by getting the ball out quick. Also destroys a run game when the RB's are getting hit 2 yards behind the line every play.
Same then obviously applies for interior OL, to avoid allowing another team to do to you what i just described above.
I am a firm believer that the best way to build a team is through the middle. And i think a dominant DT, ILB, S, or C/G will impact a team more than a great WR, TE, DE/OLB or CB can.
Obviously it's important to have talent everywhere, and ill take an all pro edge rusher over a good starting OG.... but all things equal im going with someone up the middle.

I love the way he just takes blockers on a ride against their will, like he just kidnaps dudes and says "you're coming with me boi" and drags them to the backfield. And he breaks free from blocks without even using any disengage tactics, he just violently shoves dudes off of him.
I would really have to hope that Suggs teaches this young man everything he can, he seems like a bright young man and obviously a workaholic, nobody with that effort level is gonna be slacking at any point. And the way he closes in and eats up ground is just amazing.
It's also loads of fun to watch him get turned around by blockers and see him recklessly flail to get squared back up without losing ground. When he got spun around against ASU and he just blindly leaped in the air with the slim hope that he could bat a pass I just laughed... hopefully he can harness that desire and turn it into something a little more thoughtful lol. With the likely bs rumors of takk being high on our board I can't say I'd be too disappointed after a second and third thought
I dont know if youve read much about his background -- he's a survivor and real fighter. Hes had to overcome some pretty rough circumstances just to get to this point, and hes got a great support group around him in his aunt and grandmother.
I always apply a few bonus points to prospects like that. It makes me more confident that they are not going to take the opportunity for granted, and they have that drive to get the most out of their ability. Because tons of potential is great and all, but if the kid never lives up to half of it you dont have much.
THis kids got potential and what it takes to achieve it.

I live in Philly too... and the consensus among fans and local media like Mike Miss and Anthony Gargano is heavy on either McCaffery or Foster.
But I agree with @BmoreBird22 here -- i think the team is leaning CB. If Marlon Humphrey is on the board, i expect that to be the pick.

2002-2008 is going to blow it out of the water. But you have to consider that the average draft position over that span was probably somewhere in the 12-16 range... whereas over the 2009-2016 span it was mid to late 20's

I'm sorry but thats a weak list outside of KO and CJ. I have no clue on how you found 10 pro bowls there..i count the pro bowl player not the number which is inflated with special teams players.
Jimmy Smith when healthy has been a Top 5 CB... arguably top 2-3.
Yes he's got to stay healthy and until he does it's a disappointment.... but there's literally no argument to knock his play when he's been on the field.
In2016 he was Top 1 or 2 in catch % by receivers in his coverage, opponent passer rating, and yards per reception.
I mean if the CBs job is to not let the WR catch the ball and if/when he does to limit how many yards he gets... idk how you can argue that being just pretty good.
17 minutes ago, arnie_uk said:I hate siding with sami but this post is just hot air. Ozzie was by far and away the best gm up until probably the past 5 or 6 years. Other teams have caught up and probably exceeded him.
No team has a historic track record like the ravens.
Many teams have a better current track record than the ravens.
That's simple facts. Out recent drafts have been poor which is why we have been floundering since 3 potential future hall of hamers left.
The young talent hasnt been up to scratch and when it was we didn't have cap space to keep em
Name the teams and the picks.
Still waiting (2+ years now) for someone to do this. Probably bc if you take the time to actually look into it instead of just whining and complaining -- you really can't.
You can find a GM or team that was maybe better over a 2-3 year stretch (usually coincides with picking high) but comparing 2008 to now... he's still right near the top.
10 minutes ago, Deflated Football said:Perhaps Flacco could read a defense before the ball is snapped and get it out as quickly as possible, nullifying your statement. I've said before that we excel at grooming late round offensive linemen. And Terrance West had a pretty good YPC percentage despite a crappy offensive line last season.
Perhaps a dominant OL gives Flacco clean pockets and all the time in the world, also allowing even mediocre receivers to get open (bc even the best DBs in the league can't cover effectively for more than 5-6 seconds).... and blows open huge lanes so we have great run game that constantly puts us in 3rd and shorts thus controlling the ball and the clock; both of which allow the D to stay fresh, really get after it with pressure and focus on turnovers....
Resulting in an improved run and pass game and complimenting the defense we've built.
Dont see how what you said nullifies the argument at all.
And for the record I personally prefer Barnett or Williams/Davis over going OL with the 1st pick....
But that has nothing to do with the fact that adding one player that improves the OL impacts this team WAY more than adding a WR.
Im just not sold that any OL will be the best player available. Saying that a WR might be a better player than the available lineman is fair.... but the idea that a WR is more important than improving our OL is absurd.
13 minutes ago, Sami84 said:how many since 2008? only need 1 hand..
thats my point. He's lived off his early drafts. Most of those pro bowls have come from 5 players in particular...all drafted well over a decade ago PLUS
And how many top picks has he had? Most of those pre-2008 picks were top 10.
Every pick above 19 hes nailed.
Plus.. Flacco's been selected and turned down, Ray Rice, KO shouldve been if he hasnt, McPhee shouldve been if he hasnt yet, BWill prob shouldve made it 2 years ago, Wagner should have made it 2014 or last year, Juice, Tucker, Koch, Mosley, Stanley will eventually. Jimmy and Webb have each had a season where they were deserving. I think there are a couple who wouldve made it in 2012 if we werent playing in the SB.
4-5 players... 10+ that have deserved a spot.
Tell me which team has drafted the most since 2008?
Ravens draft picks have been selected to a combined 42 Pro Bowls since 2002. 1 more than the Patriots, and 3rd in the NFL
Dallas tops the list with 52.
Totally unrelated.... but, yea Oz sucks at drafting. ![]()

Thatd be pretty cool.
Unfortunately we open the season against them, because he'll be tough to defend across from Green for the 5 games he'll be healthy as a pro... but at least another good player falls to us.

Wallace was actually the most effect slant runner in the NFL last year in terms of Averages Yards per route run.
I like Davis, and like him more than i did.
But - i think we need the big, physical clutch catcher who just gets the ball. You dont need as much separation of no CB can get the ball from you. Williams is just so good at using his body, boxing out, catching the ball at its highest and earliest point... his hands are huge and so is his catch radius.
Thats what we need for Joe who can put the ball anywhere on the field and push the ball through tiny tiny windows so long as it doesnt have to hit the WR in stride. He'll get it in the area, he just needs a guy who can from time to time bail him out by opening the window up a bit.
Williams is like a slightly less physical Boldin but bigger and with enough speed to get down the field and be a vertical threat.
