Okay, gotcha. Thanks. Was hoping we got a guy that was more of a potential single high, but a sixth round pick for Anthony Levine isn't a bad deal.

Yea -- at least then he'd bring a skill set we dont currently have in any safety on the roster. But, nope... more of a combo guy like what we have.

So what's the skinny on this guy?

Not super athletic, but high level instincts and football IQ. Always moving a step or 2 toward the play before it happens. Some ball skills.

Probably nothing more than a ST, but maybe could come on as a dime/nickel safety in 2-3 years.

Hard to find a whole lot on the guy in terms of tape... but seems like a decent floor/low ceiling type prospect who you feel confident you know exactly what youre going to get... thinking him becoming a Levine type player is close to the best we could hope for. Team guy, hard worker, ST standout that may eventually give you something in a niche role on defense.

His instincts and football intelligence seem to be the standout traits though.

fur us resantly it has bean a lottery. but it aint for many otha teams. the bengels have outdraffed us by far in resant yrs.  ur sayin draffin is like skyscraper demolition. they pay these demolition companies huge money to be sure that when the 25 story building comes down it comes straight down. but when 9/11 happened how did those huge 100 story buildins come down?  they came straight down. no conspiraci suggested here.  if its a lottery why not get rid of ur draff pickers and just play the numbas urself. Why pay all that money to draff pickers that nevah know if thar 1st rd guy is the man or thar 6th rd guy is gonna pan out? see? why pay the money to the demolitions if that buildin is gonna behave a certain way anyways?

but the truth is thar are lots of variables to pickin a good draff. u'd think ur pickers had an eye for nfl talent, but the truth is at least in Baltimore they really have been closa to lottery playas. one of their strategeries is to hoard as many lower rnd pics as possable hopin one of em might pan out.  its a good strategerie if you can't pic a playa. its a bad strategerie if ur tryin to rebuilt a agein team. cuz in that case the draff becomes like a box of chocolates, u nevah know what ur going to get.

add to the complex of the draff is that it can be bad to draff a playa that looks good from a totally stacked team. becuz his flaws get coverad by all that surrundin talant.  one of the biggast skills a GM has to have is the abilaty to look past that coverin talant to see what the targated playa really has.  Add to that the fact that a powerful team that plays weak teams has to be factored. than add to that the overall talant in college with the lax officatin has to be factored in jus how skilt ur targated playa is.  than add to that the requirements of the nfl whar the game and complexity speed up immensely has to be factored to ur targated playas wanderlichs. that's a football iq test.  its not as hard as it sounds, but if ur not considerin those varibals ur gonna miss on ur 1st rnder and maybe hit ur 6th rnder. and that is where we find ourselves.

Just weird how your inability to spell just randomly turns on and off. One sentence can spell demolition, complexity, immensely, hoard, requirements, etc...

But then the next cant spell draft or there.

And, show the teams that consistently draft better than the Ravens. Show us the draft hauls.... who they picked and where.

big letta little letta gotta giv you one thang u are relieable. what you say to the bd is always gonna be consistant. its alwys been wrong and always will be but its as same today as it was in 2013 whan you praysed cleats elam as our saver. lawded his smarts in negoshiatin his own contrac and how good he was gonna be. no one posta on the bd has bean more consistant than you in what you sayed or as consistant wrong in what u predacted.  you have one da prise.  what ur evan betta at is hipocrasie. you nevah seam to undastan when you are takin a positshon that total contradichts the facts and situashon. its like you come up wiff this this premiss or prinzipool u asume to be true without the least screwtiny into weather it is tru or not. the test is not impourtant to u. what u go with is your premiss.  u jus take it an go with it preachin the hole time like u an authority an its why any one with any smarts wont visit ur bran of board and censurrin.  u got a lot of dictator in u and an equil amount of fact ignorin.  of all the postas uve contribed a bunch of faith base gobbelty guck an added littel to nuthin to discusshon.

anyways befor I get into how terrible we have draffed as compaired to the bengels lets be clear about prinzipal in the salary cap ara. whan a gm pics talant he canna be worried weather carachter will put an end to his playas carrear. playas r not indentures for life any longa. they sign for 4 yrs and most will not be payed afta that. if u can get a top playa in the draff for 3 or 4 yrs as ouravens fan has said you take him and what trainspires is in the big ravens hands. u r not talkin bout a long carrear.  it is betta to get the 3 or 4 yrs of talant than to shop for carachter and get a humpf who is nuthin more than a cleats elam in tha waitin. stop the high hoss big letta weve had nuff of it.

now in r entire histry we have won the divishon 4 times. the bengels in 12 yrs have won it 4 times and been in the playofs 3 times since our champs yr. so whan you say they are failin in the last 4 yrs who is failin more? that's a ratoracle queshion big letta and u canna answear it objectively. between ross, mixon and humpf we shuld not have draffed hump and we had a shot at mixon in round two but went wiff anuther lineback.

now regardin ur prinzipal we turnd a blind eye to ray rices offense and were all good to look that otha way until it went natshonal and that's why ouraven says ur prinzipals are arbitrary. I thang I spelt that one right no red underline!  so who gets a second chanze in a short nfl carrear? of all people u the lass one shuld be takin a stand on whar the ravens are in that regarding.

So - tell me. what has been the peak of the Bengals success in the past decade?

    Impressive.

And, yea they drafted better for a small period of time after being a consistent loser and had high draft picks. Since theyve had "success" (making playoffs and losing 1st game every time.... WOW big achievements) their drafting has suffered and theyve found its hard to continue that success when players move on.

We've won a playoff game more recently than they have.

Honestly i dont know what your gibberish is all about... I dont even remember my feelings about Elam at the time bc i didnt study much college tape back then, but yea, chances are i was optimistic. Bc whether i like a pick initially or not i choose to get on board and hope for the best. thats how i "fan" because its actually more fun.

And yes it is smart to "negotiate" your own rookie deal. It is intelligent to do so bc they're slotted. Theres almost nothing to negotiate except offset language and thats pretty standard as well. Whats your point?

lol, who's failed more since our championship?? Dumbest statement ever, because it ignore the fact that WE HAVE A CHAMPIONSHIP. And with only 1 playoff appearance since then.... we have WON A PLAYOFF GAME. Something the Bengals have not and will not do, precisely for the reasons i explained. They have the talent to get there, but not the culture or type of players that thrive under pressure of the brightest lights.

No one turned a blind eye to Ray. He was a model citizen in college and his time here prior to the incident. They chose to believe his side of the story, since well.... a COURT OF LAW didnt charge him. The video just showed that Ray lied about his version of the story. When they saw what really happened he had to go.

btw your spelling thing is old, just give it up. When youre going out of your way to spell things wrong, like players names even (Jimmi Smith) when theyre spelling correctly in posts you read every day... its blatantly obvious. As obvious as your hard on for pft commenter.

And yes, im implementing dictator like rules on the new forum. First is that every post must be proof read for accurate spelling and punctuation. So unfortunately youre out.

Creating series of multiple screen names so you can hide your identity, and not have your post history tied to you... Its easy to point out other peoples misjudgments from 3-4 years ago when you make a new profile every 3-4 months. Makes it harder to criticize your love for Rob Housler a couple years ago and how with just a few pounds of functional muscle he was going to be the most dynamic TE in the NFL!

And how Marqise Lee will be the best slot WR in the NFL. Totally worth a 2nd round pick.

What are you going to do after tomorrow? The amount of time you spend on here, in fantasy, pretending to be someone and something youre not -- pretty sad. Dont get much real life interaction, huh?

I'd like to see them bring Speedy Noil in for a tryout.

I'm sure he could make it as the returner and gadget play guy.  Insurance for Campanaro.

didnt he have some off field issues or something?

EDIT: yea just looked in to it, hes been suspended a ton. Bowl games, off season stuff where he was suspended for openers at least twice.

And for a guy who was the top "athlete" recruit in the nation, the guy has failed miserably to live up to expectations. And honestly, if he wasnt humbled by his failures to be a standout player on the college level in his 3-4 years (whatever it was) i have 0 faith he's suddenly going to change his attitude and be motivated to live up to his natural ability.

I love guys who overcome being overlooked or bad circumstances in life or lack of natural gifts to become good players. You can trust those kinds of players usually to do everything they can to live up to their potential.

The opposite is true here. I hate guys who have all the natural talent in the world and fail to perform. Especially when theyve had 3+ years to change their attitude or be humbled by not becoming a stand out player in college. What is suddenly going to change? He wasnt embarrassed by being a top national recruit and failing to put up even moderate production in college... hes not going to be embarrassed by going undrafted. He didnt learn from suspensions early on. He didnt learn from missing his first bowl game.

This is clearly a guy who feels he's owed something bc he was a high school hero, big fish in a small pond. And if his natural ability wasnt enough to break through at the college level, it wont come anywhere close to being an asset at the NFL level.

Yes it would. Zero of it is guaranteed. Wave a conditional 6th or 7th at them and rework his deal making it more team friendly like Wallace was. Decker has little to no leverage here so we can snatch him on the cheap

The fact that nothing is guaranteed in this scenario doesnt mean much, bc youre giving up a draft pick. Trading a pick just to cut a player, and saying great - well at least there wasnt any guaranteed money - is still a big loss.

Hes not going to rework his deal to make it more team friendly. Hes got one last shot at a big FA deal and the cost for very good WR's has eclipsed $10m/yr. His consistent production puts him above guys like Britt, Stills, etc... who signed for $8m+/yr (which is more than his current deal has left) and hes closer to Desean Jackson territory which is above the $10m/yr threshold.

Whether with the Jets or a team that trades for him hes going to play out the last 2 years of his deal and test the market where he can make a lot more guaranteed money, more per year and pick where he wants to go. The Ravens would have literally 0 leverage to get him to sign an extension unless it was on par with what he thinks his market value will be in FA.

flacco best seasons came when he was pushing the ball downfield.

just look at yards gained per pass attempt and yards gained per completion for every season and compare them to how he did the past 2 seasons in the traditional west coast. ( kubiak runs his own version)

i urge you to pay a lot of attention to that 10.8 yards gained per pass attempt in the 2012 play offs.
im about 99.9% certain its the highest mark in NFL history.

its a highly ridiculous number tbh.

there is no way you get that by throwing short passes.

10.8 per attempt is ABSURD. Wow.

Ive never seen that before. Thats literally insane. Thats more than a 1st down every ATTEMPT. Balls leaves his hand - 1st down.

Man, i forget sometimes just how amazing he was on that run.

With his injury history, I'd think long and hard before paying picks and $$ for Watkins since I don't see him being handed over for cheap and $6.5M prove it deal isn't ideal with our cap space.

they just declined his 5th year option... which wouldve cost $13m+ and is fully guaranteed for injury so makes sense. But clearly a sign theyre not fully bought in on him.

oh right - so if you draft a guy like robinette or give them a contract but they are essentially unavailable you essentially might postpone part of the contract like if they were retired a la rolando mcclain?

RIght, enter the draft right away so teams are drafting the player they see right now on tape... go do your 2 years of service which essentially postpones the beginning of your rookie contract. When they come back youve still got player control on a rookie deal for 4 years.

In both cases the team is getting a player that will be coming off of 2 years without football. In both cases the team will have 4 years control on a rookie deal. But in one case, the player youre drafting has fresh tape and just came off a season. In the other scenario youre drafting a player whose tape is 2 years old.

Youre literally getting the same exact player under the same exact circumstances -- i just think theyd have a better shot at getting drafted if they enter immediately after their college career while their tape, play and achievements are fresh on evaluators minds.

Not very, I'm afraid. He only played it as a kid, switched to football after moving to US at the age 14.

He played soccer from 3-13 years old. Played Rugby at 13 for 1 year. Moved to the US at 14 and started playing football.

Hes now played football for 6 years compared to 1 of rugby. Neither is much experience. My point was simply that playing 1 year of rugby probably wasnt enough for him to learn and retain anything meaningful that would carry over to his football playing. Hes now got far more experience playing football, which itself isnt much.

to be fair just growing up around soccer and rugby have similar skills and in much the same way that US kids will understand some things fundamentally about defending etc. almost by osmosis it will be the same for him - it's funny because the way you talk about that wing-back type defending style in soccer is similar to team drift defense schemes in rugby - i guess there are just techniques and similarities between a lot of different sports that carry over - you're right though that the wrestling is almost certainly the biggest deal

Youre right, defending the wing positions in basketball is near identical in terms of concepts to defending in soccer. On ball defending very similar to 1v1 defending.

Never played rugby but considering the countries/cultures that seem to love and thrive at rugby also many cases love and do well at soccer -- i imagine youre spot on with there being many similarities in techniques and skills...

And i wasnt discrediting the impact rugby would have on a football player, hope it didnt come across that way. Just that i dont think his 1 year playing rugby (bc it was the closest organized sport to football in his town) would have developed much in him that would stick as a habit.

rugby is the sport that probably will help his mirroring ability more than any of the other sports because of the way you defend in open space and the lightness you have to have on your feet when defending against guys with great footwork and side-steps/jukes but also the power to hold on and push back those guys - rugby defensive goal-line drills will probably really help him in terms of his drive blocking as a guard and finishing those blocks and ironically defending in space would give him skills that would probably help him as a corner - because of the body shaping and pushing attackers towards the sideline and the back pedal/hip fluidity required to be a good defender in space as a rugby player... if that was his body type/skillset in the nfl which it isnt lol but it should also transfer some ability to mirror well given some space to kickstep into

the biggest thing he will lack is use of his anchor and engaging with his hands together and just general polish all around on the finer details

He played rugby for like a year.... so idk how useful it is. Hes now a much more polished footballer player than he ever was a rugby player. idk that he played long enough for anything to "carry over."

But defending in soccer is very similar to defending a pocket. Retreat a little early with one foot forward and one back for balance. But you dont retreat too much and have to be positioned just right so when they try to cut back inside you can cut that attempt off and keep your body positioned inside.

The footwork and body positioning is very similar. Staying low for leverage when making contact is key as well. The obvious difference is the amount of contact and the hand use.... but for that his wrestling ability is very useful. All about timing your shoot to land first, and controlling the guy across from you's body and weight... using their momentum against them, etc..

Both 1v1 defending, 2nd/3rd defender and team shape defending concepts probably surprisingly to some have a ton in common... coupled with wrestling seem like a darn good recipe for the base of an OL. Just very rare youd have a soccer player become the size of an OL.

If he recovered, I don't think he's going anywhere after Devin Smith's injury. They drafted a couple but both speedsters / slot guys.

They like Enunwa... and theyre in full on rebuild. I could see them cutting him regardless.

Probably tanking for a QB next year, so why not get rid of him and absorb the cap hit now so you have more room the next 2 years to add talent, and so you dont have a talented player on the field who could help you win games and possibly hurt their draft pick.

Can't yet find any film on him but he sounds, indeed, like a Robert Myers pick. But given the rugby past, he may be more athletic than he seems at 340. I'm intrigued.

he was offered D1 scholarships as a wrestler too.

And former soccer player, so if he builds up his lower body or cleans up some of his excess weight so he carries his weight better.... he has natural footwork to mirror/match defenders in pass sets.

Plus... doesnt really have any bad "habits" so to speak, bc he hasnt been doing this long enough for anything to be a habit. Clean slate, Just a big, giant ball of clay. With pretty darn good athleticism for his size and a background in other sports that should help him at this position.

With what now looks like great defense in the making, all I want from our offense is to return to proper run game. Makes it easier on everybody. We'll just have to see whether the line holds but backfield looks decent and run game coach is in place. If that happens, Flacco would be able to mix it up a little and win us some games. Even Pitta should be able to make more than half a step in YAC.

dont know why you got negged for this.

Agree completely. The run game returning to even decent status is the key to this coming season. Bc if we can control the clock, keep Joe in 3rd and shorts (so those Pitta check downs become 1st downs), and open up play action -- FGs and the 1 or 2 big plays per game should make us a very tough team to beat with this defense.

Though definitely a player to keep an eye on. Wishful thinking, but id love him here.

Firstly, I said matt elam was an awful tackler from day 1. I was his number one hater. Anyone here can tesitify to this, even before he played a snap.

Secondly, every single scout, from NDT to PFF to walterfootball all say what I have said. Same with Vach Lombardi. HIs tackling form and his length is a whole different league to elam. Elam was pathetic, undersized with T-rex arms.

Exactly. People who thought Elams tackling was a strength did so bc they liked the splashiness.... the boom type hits. But he just wildly threw his body and came in wrecklessly like a torpedo.

Problem is he took way too aggressive angles and in the nfl was too small to destroy people so ball carriers just blew by him as he missed or bounced off.

Marlon brings the wood but does so with perfect technique -- exploding through the strike zone while wrapping up the legs, scoop and drop. Comparing Marlon to Elam is a joke.

All have their own issues and may be time for a fresh start. Be similar to the trade of jerrnigan

    Not trading Correa or Maxx.

And Gillmore/Tali arent worth anything at all between their injuries, lack of proven production, and limited time left on their rookie deal.

Carl Davis maybe, but youre only going to get a Carl Davis-esque WR in return. Nothing game changing.

Plus, we dont need another young, developing WR who just needs reps or a chance (i mean, we've got a few of them here... why not just give them a chance). And none of those players add anything in a deal for a proven vet. Essentially equivalent to throwing in a conditional 7th.
