  1. Haha right? Hoping it's a steal this year!
  2. Some states (like Texas) don't have state income tax. So even though they can offer the same max contract, the amount the player receives in states like Texas and Florida is much higher than others. Odd he wound up in Texas, isn't it?
  3. One thing I think important to mention in regards to Perriman and his NFL pedigree - looking at his father coming out of college and how he progressed as a pro - he was a speedster, though much smaller than Breshad, and wasn't a polished route runner. To stay productive and successful he became a pure technician with route running to make himself an available target on many plays. I think this bodes well for Breshad. I think that's his biggest area for growth... If he can refine his route running and learn to not just rely on speed and strength to win 1on1 he can be darn near unstoppable. And since his dad learned the finer points of the craft he should be just another resource to continue Breshads development in that area. That connection is invaluable and I don't think is being paid enough attention. That's a 24/7 365 teacher who mastered the skill Breshad needs the most work on. Keep in mind, from what I understand Breshad didn't fully commit to football until highschool. So the position is still something he's learning and is relatively early in his development. That's not a bad thing though because if he can be productive early, that bodes well for the possibility that he can be dominant once he's fully developed. I'm really confident we now have our AJ Green, Julio Jones, Dez type receiver. Add to that getting what I think will be a dominant pass catching TE and this offense is primed to take off like we've never seen before. Were about to enter the Flacco era of the NFL where he, Luck and Wilson will fill the void left by Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees.
  4. Works for Doom too. Gives them the advantage of leverage.
  5. Sometimes theres this outside force called money that motivates these decisions.
  6. It doesn't matter where the 5th best wr is usually taken. All that matters is this draft, this crop of players, and where teams had him rated. There wasn't a run on WR's in the sense that teams reached for players to fill need. Cooper, White and Parker were always going to be taken high. They were consensus top 10-15 picks. He was the highest rated player on our board, and you said that if they felt they could trade back and still land him they would have. Clearly they didn't think they could do that which only bolsters the argument that Perriman was rated across the board as a 1st round pick and was going to go in the 1st whether we took him at 26 or not. Our FO had him rated as the 15th best prospect in the entire draft and they clearly felt that most teams had him rated around there and would have taken him as the BPA.
  7. He will round off his routes as opposed to making sharp cuts and turns. He's faster than he is quick due to longer strides. He runs all the routes, but needs to clean up footwork. At times he's not sudden in his movements either which can give away his route and draw tighter coverage. At least that's my take away.
  8. Welcome Maxx! Get Pitta healthy and we've got great depth at the position and diversity. Maxx is a very good blocker and great pass catcher so love that versatility. We can run 2 TE sets effectively now and be dangerous running or passing out of it. First 2 picks are guys that do their best work on 3rd down. Move those chains! Go Ravens!!
  9. I love this pick. I think he will be a legit #1 receiver. He's got size, speed, runs a full route tree, gets good YAC, takes the top off the D... Just gotta work on those concentration catches.
  10. Hes giving away 10-15 jerseys personally before the season. Stay tuned for details.
  11. Is moving Yanda to center a serious suggestion?? Mathis is naturally a LG and Yanda a RG. So you think it makes sense that in your fairy tale world where we sign Mathis to then take the 2 best lineman on the team and make them both worse by playing them out of position??? An offensive line as a whole isn't always equal to the sum of it's parts. Playing on a different side of the line is very different. Your technique, footwork, and primary muscles used reverse. Guard to Center is even more different. You can't say "eye test" when your eyes have NEVER seen Yanda play center Mathis play RG. The whole basis of the "eye test" is that you've actually SEEN what it is you're pretending to have knowledge of. My eye test shows your post is full of holes and based on poor logic.
  12. If it's one or the other the answer is Yanda. He'll be cheaper as KO will likely command top money with his 1st big contract and a young emerging talent. Yanda you get better or equal play for 2-3 years at less money. Maybe you see some decline but I don't see KO being the better player until at least 2-3 years from now. Plus Yanda is a leader and makes everyone around him better. He also doesn't have the injury concerns that KO does. I prefer to keep both if we can sign KO to a decent deal with a pretty large salary but lower guarantee bc of his injury history where he doesn't start making big money until year 3 where I'd expect we see some decline from Yanda. Extend Yanda where he makes most of his money in the 1st 2-3 years so we only ever have 1 high paid guard against the cap in any given year. Keep grooming Urschel and sign him to a cheap 2nd contract and he takes over for Yanda in 4-5 years. I also see is drafting a G/T in this draft to add depth and eventually replace current guys. I like the RT from Alabama, can likely get him in the late rounds, has great size and technique, and I think will be a very good pro as a guard with versatility to slide outside if needed. Ideally keep both. If not we let KO chase the money and get equal or better play for less from Yanda. Urschel is starter quality now and in a year I think will be a standout player capable of replacing KO. Another thing to think about, idk Monroe's contract well but if he can be cut in a year or 2 and save cap Hurst could replace him and the savings could justify resigning KO. Just a thought.
  13. I don't really have a dog in this fight but citing articles that say Urschel wants to prove he can play center and analysts prognosticating that he could project at center do not constitute as fact that he could excel there. What is fact? He was plugged in at both guard positions and played well relatively speaking. Up and downs but for a rookie thrust into starting roles he held up very well. I felt confident with him coming in in the playoffs. He has not taken snaps at center and has never played it to my knowledge. Could he do well there? Sure. But there aren't any facts to day that he would. There's a lot more to playing center than just blocking. He's shown good technique in blocking, but he has no experience evaluating defensive alignments, calling out adjustments, changing protections, etc. Zuttah wasn't great but was probably the biggest upgrade to our line with RT a close second. Until I see proof otherwise I'd say its most likely Urschel eventually replaces KO if not resigned, is groomed to eventually replace Yanda in 2-3 years, or remains cheap insurance in case of injury for all 3 interior positions. But at this point I'd be more concerned with an injury to Zuttah than to KO. Plus the FO was reportedly high on Jensen as a potential C with versatility to play G as well. Idk what the depth chart shows but Urschel may very well not even be our backup center. Last year Gino was the primary backup at C, which isn't giving me much confidence that he showed enough potential at the position in practice last year bc as we all know Gino was terrible. Tough to believe he currently projects well there if he wasn't outplaying Gino.
  14. I'd love to keep both but I'm just not sure. It's still possible. If Yanda signs a fairly cap friendly deal, we've got a few years of bargain play at RT, if Hurst continues to develop he can maybe save money by replacing Monroe in a year or 2. For long term future it makes more sense to keep KO but Yanda is just way too consistent, injury free and a team leader. We have some quality young depth at G/C with Urschel and don't forget Jensen... And looks like they really covet 1 or 2 guards in this draft. I could see us grabbing one in the 2nd. I don't think that would mean KO is definitely gone as it could just be preparing for 2-3 years from now if Yanda slows down. But I don't think you risk taking arguably the most important aspect of the team (interior line superiority) and risk it to save cap. KO, Yanda and Zuttah/Urschel can combine to be the best interior line in football. Lock up KO and you have 4 of 5 lineman that can be arguably top 5 at their position locked up for a 5 year span. All while maintaining incredibly talented and cheap When you think about it, spending $5-7 mill to lock up KO and keep this line in tact saves you more money elsewhere in that you can succeed with pretty much any decent RB and allows you to get away with cheaper weapons at WR and TE. You invest big in Oline and Qb on offense and plug in bargains at skill positions. We'll have rice off the books, Joe will lessen his cap hit, Pitta will either play or get most his money off the books so we can afford to pay market price for Jimmy Smith and KO... Though I thought we'd lock Grubbs up a few years ago to keep Yanda and him together but the FO showed faith in their ability to identify and develop top talent at the position and it worked out tremendously. I won't count out them viewing the KO situation the same way with how Urschel played as a rookie and a top 3 round draft pick at guard Could really go either way, but my gut says KO stays.
  15. Read an article on nfl.com ranking the teams that in this years FA who have signed the most and least FAs so far since feb 27th. The list for most FA signed was VERY surprising to me and so was the least to an extent. Guess it's because how much media attention the big name signings get and how little attention the others do but: Top 3 teams with most FA signings: Indy (17) NE. (17) Bal (16) I was shocked that we've signed the 2nd most amount of FAs this offseason and that NE was tied for 1st. STL has signed the least and GB, ATL, NO and PHi were all among the teams with the fewest signings. Just thought that was an interesting tidbit id share. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000483423/article/which-teams-have-signed-the-mostfewest-players
  16. I think it's too early yet to truly see Castillo's contributions to the team and evaluate his work. His first full year we took a huge step back. Last year a quantum leap forward and saw incredible development in the young lineman. Wagner being the most noticeable example but even the contributions from Urschel and Hurst were huge given the injury problems we faced at times. Looking back and without being any inside knowledge it's impossible to know whether their success was more a product of Kubiaks system or whether it was due in large part to Castillo's ability to develop young talent. The truth is probably a combination of the two, but with Kubiak now gone and Trestman not having the track record that Kubiak has of routinely getting great production with average talent.... This year we should be able to truly evaluate Castillo's contribution. If we see similar success or even a slight drop off then I think Castillo deserves the praise, but until then we have to accept the possibility that the success was due mainly to kubiaks system.
  17. My thoughts are that the same could be said in almost every offseason. Year after year were inactive while everyone else joins the spending frenzy. Year after year were a contender while the teams that seemed to get better on paper don't. The Broncos looked like they were a shoe in to get back to the Super Bowl last year after landing Ward, Sanders, Ware, Talib and a healthy Von Miller back. Crazy influx of talent to an already Super Bowl roster. And they regressed. We're fine. There's still some starter quality vets out there and Ozzie waits for someone else to set the market and then offers his number. We get em or we don't. Then late in FA and headed into training camp the teams that spent big end up cutting quality depth behind their big signings and when no one else has money to spend we can offer whatever and land them - getting quality starters are bargain barrel prices. There are players that will be Ravens starters and solid contributors that aren't even on our radar yet as fans. We'll go into the season without and huge acquisitions but starting quality talent across the board and starter quality players simply providing depth. And we'll compete. Look at last year - at this time most of us didn't see them as options or contributing much, but guys like Forsett, Aiken, Wagner, Zuttah, Guy, Stewart, etc... All played pivotal roles in us righting the ship. Forsett was a likely cut upon Rice's return, ends up in the Pro-Bowl. Zuttah was TB's starter, ends up being a HUGE upgrade at center and a calming influence on the line. RT was one of our biggest holes and we needed to find a starter - Wagner only goes on to be the highest rated RT in the league in his 1st year. Guy rotated in and became a solid contributor. Aiken was a bubble player at best, ends up with several key TDs and clutch 1st downs. Stewart gave us quality snaps at arguably our weakest position. And this is all from one offseason.
  18. I like Housler too. I think Gresham could turn in a Danielsesque or better season here. Good news is the longer they go unsigned the more likely they are to be Ravens imo I'd also like Jennings or Crabtree on a cheap deal. The lack of looks for Jennings tells me his asking price is too high right now.
  19. Totally understand... but if you're talking a contender - who cares if all you're contending for is losing the playoffs? To be honest, i dont know any fan base (other than maybe the Browns/Raiders/Jets) that would be satisified with 10-12 wins yearly and just making the playoffs only to lose in the 1st or 2nd round. And even those fan bases would probably only enjoy that for a few seasons before that became the new standard and anything less than a Super Bowl wouldnt be acceptable. The conversation started with comments about us needing to do whatever, move up the in the draft or throw whatever amount of money, to go get an elite receiver (TE or WR). My point was if we're already contenders and have been without ever having that type of player... and there isnt really any evidence to support needing one to actually win or contend for a Super Bowl... what real argument is there for giving anything up to go get a guy like that? If one falls to you in the draft, or theres a FA situation like Dumervil a couple years ago then sure you do it. But you dont sway from the course.
  20. Getting to the playoffs doesnt make you a contender. Contenders are those built to win in the playoffs and make a run. That crosses out the Bengals. The Steelers havent been close since leaning on the passing game heavily. Cardinals I wouldnt call contenders. Colts are trending upward, Broncos downward. I'll give you the Colts and Packers.
  21. I like the analysis and can't argue the points you made... But I don't know if I put too much real value in the findings from the perspective that the end game of putting a football team together is winning a Super Bowl. Out of the teams you listed, how many are legit Super Bowl contenders outside of the Ravens? The Packers are. Broncos maybe but id say they're trending downward. I think that windows closed until they find a Manning replacement. So 2 out of 9 I'd say could legitimately win a Super Bowl. What's that say? Not a good path to take toward building a contender necessarily. Seahawks were just as devoid of talent at the position the past 2 years and won 1, made another. Combine that with the Ravens and there's 2 contenders who get it done another way.
  22. I looked at the forum topic list and thought the "Hey Guys" topic was a clever title for a thread discussing the Guy resigning. I was wrong.
  23. Or Justin Forsett, Owen Daniels, Will Hill, Chris Canty, Corey Graham, Josh Wilson and Daryl Smith it. Cherry pick the 2 bad examples and conveniently fail to mention the overwhelming majority of late FA signings that were guys deemed "not worth having" who came in and are playing or have played huge roles for us. Just judging by the overall sentiment you express on these boards - you're a fan of the wrong team. Miami, jacksonville, philly, the browns... teams like that probably suit your taste in how a team should operate much better.
  24. Gillmore can block. And here's this, Pitta vs Chandler Pitta: Year Rec Yds Tds 2014 16 125 0 2013 20 169 1 2012 61 669 7 2011 40 405 3 Chandler: Year Rec Yds Tds 2014 47 497 3 2013 53 655 2 2012 43 571 6 2011 38 389 6 Man, Pittas nothing but a big (but smaller) body.
  25. Would love to have him... pretty comparable to Owen Daniels, but with more upside and a bigger red zone target. Probably cheaper too. With Miami signing Jordan cameron, that could make Charles Clay available to claim as well... idk if i see them keeping both but could be wrong. -- And with Trent Richardson being cut by the Colts, anyone think it's worth a min contract that make him our backup? I honestly dont think he'll turn it around but who knows, with our O-line and blocking scheme maybe he could do well.
