  1. I think it has more to do with them being young guys who probably haven't adopted proper diet and training habits. In Camp's case his body is probably still developing which contributes to nagging little injuries like he's had. Both will be fine.
  2. Anyone could be injured at any time. I understand he's had lingering issues and it's been that way since college but he's proven he can produce when healthy. He's not going anywhere. Rarely will we have all our WR's active on game day so if Camp continues with the injury bug he'll just be that inactive guy. You do that this year and if he can't stay healthy you consider cutting him next year. I don't think Wallers in any danger of not making the team. Butler, Nelson and Carter are most likely to be cut and while Butler and Carter have gotten practice hype they don't look like NFL receivers. Nelson I like... He looks like a pro and is quietly effective. But how much can you expect to get out of him with his age? Camp could be a mainstay on this team for years to come. He looks the most ready to replace what Steve Smith does for this team. He hasn't had serious injuries, just nagging soft tissue injuries. Those will be prevented as he becomes more of a pro and gets onto a proper diet and training regiment. He also may still be growing which can contribute to the types of injuries he's had. I think he'll be fine when all is said and done.
  3. I agree with your points on the the flags and on Kelly not scheming this game. I dont think he did either. But his offense, even at its basic most vanilla form, is predicated on each play have 2 options, sometimes 3. Every play can be a run or pass, sometimes even a run, run, pass or run, pass, pass options. Even at its base its complex, but the complexity is based on very simple concepts (confusing?). Not scheming against his offense (even a bland, vanilla form of it) is always going to cause trouble. Because the QB reads what the defense is in, and then picks the option to beat it. So, if the defense isnt disguising pressures and coverages pre-snap you're going to be overwhelmed by Kelly's offense. Last year in pre-season this offense dismantled teams as well. It did so in the regular season at times too, but good D coordinators with good personnel eventually were able to beat it and beat it thoroughly. Dont get me wrong, this Eagles team is good, probably top 3 in the NFC maybe top 2 with Jordy Nelson down. But, if the Ravens schemed defensively to stop it, and Kelly schemed offensively it would have been a much different game. Granted with Joe throwing INT's left and right chances are you still would have jumped out on us, but I don't agree that the Ravens defense is inherently flawed to play against Kelly's offense. With a proper game plan I think the teams would be very well matched. Our run game would help us keep the ball and control the clock against your D and your offense would probably have success moving the ball at times and scoring. However, even in this preseason game it was noticeable that most of the time when penalties werent called in the Eagles favor, they struggled to move the ball. There were 2 3-and-outs in a row on the only 2 possessions i can remember where there werent big penalties called.
  4. We were playing base defense all night and headsets weren't working so we couldn't get defensive play calls in. We just practiced against them so they saw 3 days of what we were going to do. If you look at Philly media reports of the practices they all commented on how different Philly's offense looked in the sessions against us compared to what they normally do. So seems to me like a little purposeful deception in not showing us any of what we would see in the game. The defense as a whole obviously suffered. And Renner is playing ok, there are things I like but he's inaccurate, misses open throws at times and makes some poor decisions. Schaub has too but he's also shown more positives. He was very good for the most part in week 1. Plus it's a lot different throwing against the 1st team defense and the 3rd/4th string. The rush comes faster, coverage is tighter, you have to squeeze the ball into tighter windows, play with more anticipation and the ball has to have zip on it bc defenders react faster to the ball. That exploits Renners biggest weakness which is his arm strength. Not saying he can't succeed just saying they've had similar success. Renner looked a little better in Philly and Schaub looked much better against the Saints. Problem is one is playing against much better defenses. You can't just say Renner looked better this week so he's the guy - shoot I guess with that line of thinking he should be our starter because Flacco looked worse than both. Renner should start!
  5. I don't disagree and you've pointed out some good examples of guys who didn't have the arm talent you typically look for and carved out good to great careers. I think each of them still do have more arm talent then Renner does but they're probably comparable. Where I think there's a clear distinction is accuracy, pocket awareness and decision making. Accuracy and decision making can really improve with coaching and experience. Unfortunately I think pocket presence/awareness is something you typically have or you don't. That's not to say you can't become more comfortable and intelligent over time. The best of those examples is Kurt Warner who had to toil in Europe and I believe Canada before getting his shot. He was written off and had to really work at it... Only to become one of the better QBs of his era, and learned to really overcome his lack of arm talent with incredible accuracy. So yes, there is reason to give Renner time especially since there are a lot of like able traits to his game. The mental part kills the careers of a lot of very talented guys. So it's definitely a good starting point. But Kurt Warner is by far the exception. So you're right he shouldn't be written off, and I won't speak for rmw but I think both of us were just responding to those saying we should roll with Renner over Schaub. That's a big stretch at this point. I like a lot about Renner but that lack of arm strength becomes far more of a liability when playing against a 1st team defense with guys that can read/react faster, play tighter coverage and you've got less time to get rid of the ball.
  6. I agree, Brown will likely never be more than a #3 or #4 receiver but at least he's proven he can be that. Have we learned nothing from Tandon Doss, Deonte Thompson (who has looked good this preseason again), Aaron Mellette, etc... Every year guys look capable in preseason only to do nothing when the lights come on. I'll take the guy I can count on over "potential." And based on what exactly does Butler have more potential. Genuinely curious... Is it the fact that he's been in the league one less season? Butler feels like the next in line of those guys I mentioned, but at least those guys performed in preseason games, not just practice. Butler has yet to do that... All we have on him are reports of a dominant session during OTA's against nobodies and rookies for the most part and he's been riding that wave ever since. How you assess additional upside or potential based on that is beyond me.
  7. Yea he's Joe Flacco-like in the sense that he doesn't ever seem to get down on himself, can come back right after a bad mistake and make a big play, and has a knack for making plays late in the game with pressure on. Unfortunately, that's where the comparison ends. He doesn't have NFL quality physical or technical ability - and that will always limit him. Don't think he'll ever be more than a 3rd QB, PS type player.
  8. It's stated in the rules that when running the read option, since the possibility exists that the QB will pull the ball and run, he is to be treated like a running back. If Suggs hit a RB like that no one at all would complain. Chip Kelly is an idiot for putting a guy coming off 2 ACL tears in that situation. The way you play the read option on defense is to always hit both the RB and QB. Plain and simple. You can't expect a rule change bc the read option would then become impossible to defend. You expect guys running full speed to stop and wait til they're 100% sure the QB has the ball before they hit him? That's absurd. And Suggs could've laid a shoulder into him. He pulled off and just stuck an arm out. I imagine it looked worse on TV bc in live action at the game almost no one, even Eagles fans thought anything of it.
  9. If you remember, last year in preseason the Eagles offense looked unstoppable. I recall a game against the Saints I believe where they just dismantled them. Without a gameplan, Chip Kelly's offense is darn near impossible to stop because it's predicated on reading what the defense is in and always having an alternative play to beat it. If you don't have a scheme where you purposely bluff what you're doing to draw them into running the obvious adjustment you're toast. And without communication it was even more a lost cause. Don't put too much into this performance. I'll have to go back and watch the tape, but being at the game we kept noticing that every time the Ravens weren't penalize on D the Eagles couldn't get consecutive 1st downs on their own. There were so many phantom calls and plays where we stopped them, caused a turnover and then the refs would throw a flag WELL AFTER the play was over. It was the worst, most blatantly one-sided officiating I've ever seen. Even if we played well there was no overcoming the lack of game planning, no communication and officiating. We didn't play well which only exponentiated the disaster. But I'm confident that we're still a far superior team to the Eagles and still a legitimate SB contender.
  10. I was at the game and as bad as it looked... One thing we kept realizing was that the Eagles really weren't moving the ball that well unless they were being aided by penalty calls. When we played clean we were forcing them off the field. We just allowed too many drives to be kept alive by penalties, many of which were completely bogus. The one that drove me nuts was on the completed pass where we ripped it out of the receivers hands and it was called back for PI. There was NO flag on the completion, no flag when we ripped the ball out. It wasn't until the play ended that a flag was thrown. I usually don't complain about penalties, refs miss them that's part of the game... But tonight it seemed that any time we stopped a drive or made a play, the refs handed the eagles new life. It was atrocious.
  11. I met Darren Wallers Aunt and cousin tonight at the Eagles game. Wonderful people... They went nuts when he scored his TD and I was worried the Eagles fans would take exception so I walked over to them to warn them and that's when they told me who they were. Got to chat a bit with them... Really cool. One highlight from an otherwise miserable night.
  12. I live in Philly deal with then every day. I'll be alright
  13. My dad just scored 4 tickets to the game. Pumped. Anyone else going to be there?
  14. Had a bone bruise my sophomore year of college... only missed 2 games. Didnt practice at all 1st week. Early 2nd week was training and doing individual stuff, able to cut, accelerate/decelerate and by end of 2nd week was back to full sessions. 3rd week I was game ready and probably couldve played end of 2nd week if we had a game. No issues, no pain, nothing at all when I returned.
  15. Looking fwd to this week of practice. Living in the Philly suburbs I never get the chance to see Ravens training camp, and I'll finally get the chance to this week. Also going to the game which will be my 1st ravens preseason game. Hoping Perriman plays. Really want to see what he can do in live action. Also looking forward to seeing Williams, Davis and Jernigan all lined up together. We could have 3 pro bowl caliber players starting on the d line together for the next 3-5 years +. Ozzie has really struck gold the past few drafts on players in the front 7. Williams, Jernigan, Mosley, McPhee, Jones, Kruger, Upshaw and potentially Davis, Za'Darius, Urban, etc... Were one lucky fan base and can't wait to see it up close and personal this week.
  16. Did you guys see that Tyrod Taylor will be getting majority of the 1st team reps for the Bills this week and will start their next preseason game against the Browns? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000510848/article/ej-manuel-looks-like-odd-man-out-in-bills-qb-battle EJ has been relegated to 3rd team duties. I'm pumped for Tyrod. He was a great team mate and deserves an opportunity to try and win a starting job. None of those QBs has the ability to consistently sustain drives or be counted on to methodically march down the field to put up points. Luckily for them, with that defense they won't have to. With McCoy and Fred Jackson they've got a good run game so imo they're best off with the QB that can add to the run game - Tyrod. They're going to need explosive plays too and Tyrod gives them the best chance for that as well. He could be a Russell Wilson lite. I don't think he'll ever be as accurate or as good at reading defenses as Wilson, but he's a better runner. If he can just keep the turnovers down and make the simple throw when it's there, he has a real chance to make that offense just good enough to compete for the division. If they go with EJ or Cassell I think they're screwed. But hopefully I speak for more than just myself when I say Baltimore is rooting for you Tyrod! Thank you for the years you put in here, quietly doing your job and waiting your turn. Hope he wins the job and makes Buffalo a real threat in the AFC (as long as it doesn't effect us!!).
  17. He looked good. Great instincts. And on that first INT did you see who was in coverage? Marc Anthony, former Raven.
  18. Williams saw his fair share of double teams as well. He definitely benefitted from the presence of Ngata, but Ngata also saw benefit from having Williams next to him. It wasn't a one way street.
  19. Tebow looking good so far.
  20. May not be the place for this, but was just looking at the recaps of tonight's games... And our boy Supernaw had a good game with the Titans. 3 catches about 50 yds. Hope he finds a place there. Always liked the guy
  21. Davis was making offensive lineman look like little kids. Just blew them back 5 yards routinely.
  22. Impressed that Renner was able to come back from that INT to win the game. Missed some throws and some poor decisions but tough to get an accurate gauge on him with how poor the line was protecting him. Oh and Carl Davis looks like he could be an absolute beast. Williams, Jernigan and Davis could make a great dline for years to come. And the effort by Maxx on that 4th down was amazing. Great stuff. -- The 1st team offense and defense looked awesome. Couldn't have done any better really.
  23. Live in Philly so listening on the radio... Should Butler have come down with that one?
  24. It may sound stupid on the surface, and I agree, and might not seem like last years point diff could have any barring on this years record....But if he did the research and found that historically point diff actually is a decent predictor of following year success - doesn't matter if it makes sense or if we can draw a connection - actual data shows it to be relevant. Not saying I put much stock in it but a general correlation does seem to exist. It's not like the guy chose this as his metric - the data point to it as being a useful tool, at least more useful than educated guesses and expert predictions.
  25. I've seen quite a few ppl bring this play up as evidence that Waller is playing well in practice, even to the extent that he's our best receiver right now... People are making it sound like Waller did something exceptional to beat Webb or that it's impressive bc Webb is a starter. Reads to me like Webb turned to run with him and immediately pulled up bc of his hamstring locking up on him. Essentially Waller runs uncovered up the field and makes the wide open grab to walk into the endzone. Nothing but a simple pitch and catch with no defense.
