  1. Here's why Flacco shines in the postseason:

    1. People are actually watching. Sure, we play prime time games during the regular season, but those are usually against Pittsburgh or other top defenses that are very familiar with our offense. We also tend to play our very stupid "run first offense", (more on that below), and it doesn't result in a very gaudy outing. Most people miss most of our regular season and only look at Joe's stats (aka the offense as a whole's stats), which are below average.

    2. "Underdog" offense. For most of the last 5 years, we've tried to run the ball first, unsuccessfully. When the Ravens know they need to score points, they trust the passing game. Actually getting to take snaps from the shotgun, throwing on first down and putting more receivers on the field gives Joe a chance to succeed. Most QBs with great stats are in this kind of system all year round.

    3. The offensive turnover at receiver and coaching staff is always high, and the playoffs are usually when Joe's actually had a year's time to work with most of his weapons. Joe's passer rating has historically gone up as the season progresses.

    4. Joe learns quickly. When he does dumb things, he cuts them out by the next game. For example,  he hasn't fumbled since Pittsburgh and hasn't thrown a non-desperation INT since the ugly one in SF. After 16 games, he's had plenty to learn before the clock resets and everyone leaves.

So there you have it. It's not some weird January mystery.

  2. Two byes and the Bills, Jets, Dolphins, Steelers, Chiefs, Raiders as the potential recipients ahead of us.They all have at least 3 losses. Although, the Chiefs and loser of today's Dolphins/Bills team will have 5 losses. Hard to pick teams this week since they're all playing each other. We could end this week with only 1 wildcard contender over .500.

  3. So, what's his excuse in San Diego? Why was he the worst returner in the league and one of the worst decision makers?

In 2013, what was his excuse for all the body catching and lack of fight for the ball? Why wasn't he going to be used more extensively as a receiver with Allen going down?

And Steve Smith coming in didn't signal the end of his job. He only had to beat out Kamar Aiken (UDFA), Marlon Brown (UDFA), and Michael Campanaro (R, 7th Round, IR) for the third receiver job. If he had actually showed the same spark as a returner from 2012 (which he didn't in 2013) or any semblance of being a good third receiver, he'd have stayed.

Steve Smith was just one receiver (the Ravens need three, and one was likely out of town at the end of the year).

Fact of the matter is Jacoby just isn't any good anymore. I just don't see any point to bringing him back because the Ravens knew what they had in 2012-2014, and they'd now be getting a downgraded version. At least with someone like Nicks, he's 27 and still in his athletic prime and had shown at one point to be a really great receiver.

Last year Jacoby admitted that his drops were because of pressure. His decision-making for San Diego was questionable, but he was injured for a few games and they had no return yards without him either. Their coverage unit stinks.

His body-catching in 2013 is just because he's not that good. But who's expecting him to be? It's Jacoby or some practice squad guy.

  4. I really have to disagree with this. Did you see the Steeler's offense when Vick and Landry were in there for Ben? It was awful. They can not take advantage of Brown's speed at all, and make far worse decisions with the ball than Ben does. If Ben had been in that game, the Ravens would have been blown out.

Can we then also say we would have beaten the Broncos if Monroe was healthy? Or do hypothetical scenarios only grant perfect health to opposing teams?

  5. Jacoby dropped passes in 2014 because he knew his job was in jeopardy with Steve Smith in town. He was terrible as a returner because he was trying too hard to make something out of nothing and prove himself again. Give him the chance to join a short-staffed 2-6 team after getting cut and the pressure's off.

I wanted him gone at his salary last year but for minimum pay, given what we have, I would gladly welcome Jacoby back.

  6. Unless we're bringing back Bolden, Smith, & Rice, no! We're in rebuilding mode now, so i think its best to use what we got! Givens and Ross should be getting a lot more playing time!

Right, because Jacoby is nothing unless complemented by very specific players that just happened to be on the team in 2012.

  7. Listen, Joe Flacco pisses me off at times by the way he plays in games (the INT's, under and over throws etc.) so I'm not going to lie about that.  With that being said however, I want to issue my deepest apologizes to #5 cause watching this Luck cat tonight...his gameplay is trash!  And there is NO WAY I should have even entertained the notion that he was better than Joe.  Soooo....

    I'm sorry!

    :D :D

I hope you didn't think Cam Newton was better than him either. That INT? Yikes! I turned the game on just in time to see a receiver going deep actually have to stop and run closer.
