@JoeyFlex5 you also have to take into account how bad the secondary was when Jimmy Smith was drafted. I think Jimmy Smith had big shoes to fill. When you look at Marlon Humphrey who do you have behind him? Eric Weddle, Tony Jefferson, or Lardarius Webb. The Ravens don't need an elite guy on the outside day one, they need someone better than Shareece Wright and also someone who has the intangibles and size to fill in for Jimmy Smith when he goes down because the team was hurt by that last season.

Not my favorite pick for the Ravens to take there but I actually really like the upside. I know it wasn't a position of need but I like adding to the deepest secondary in the league.

True, but he did have ed reed. It's just our secondary overall that was bad. Plus the way our defense is set up puts marlon in a great position. We isolate jimmy and flood the rest of the secondary to one side of the field, making extremely tight throwing lanes and when you have guys like weddle, Jeff, and Tavon flooding that half of the field, you have a great iq safety, an extremely athletic slot guy with incredible ball skills, and an enforcer to lay big hits. All you need is a passable corner to actually play at the line and cover one guy within 10 yards and suddenly you can't throw anywhere. Humphrey will get targeted often, but the qb will have to be perfect every time and so will the window, causing a delayed read by the qb and giving Humphrey the upper hand

good thing we have weddle , webb and jefferson lol.

both webb and weddle can play the centre field role and provide help over the top.

jefferson could possibly do that as well.

could see the ravens press the outside receivers before passing them to the safeties giving the opponent very tight windows to fit the ball in while also disrupting any timing and giving the pass rusher a lil bit more time to get there.

with the safeties we have i feel we dont have to worry about the deep ball that much unless we plan on leaving him on an island from the start.
only way i see that happening is if we are again forced to send blitzes to get any kind of pressure.

I think it creates a lot of opportunities for turnovers. With dean pees defense we can sit the safety 10-15 yards deep, let them read and react, and Humphrey should be able to do what he does best and come downhill without having to worry.

The qb will have no choice but to throw in front of Humphrey because you'd be an idiot to try to squeeze a touch throw in front of a Webb or weddle who is sitting back with time to react, and behind a corner who's covering shallow. You gotta put air under it to get it in that window in between and you just can't put hangtime in a ball in front of our safeties.

The more you think about it the more this pick makes sense, he just fits and brings us something we have lacked, the ability to stop the underneath quick passes.

Jimmy took so long to develop because he was constantly injuried and somewhat lazy. Marlon is the exact opposite of that.

I know but he also wasn't nearly as raw. He had similar issues but marlons are a lot more pronounced.

I have faith in the pick. I think we now have the best secondary in the league and the best run d in the league, you can win with that. Our edge guys can pin their ears back now and we have a secondary to help them get there.

Only way he gets stuck in one on one situations like that is if hes in cover 3. In that case i think he'll be fine. We have brandon carr and jimmy who are both 6foot corners to mentor him. Ive always loved Humphrey as a fit for us but didnt think we would take him once we signed Carr. @BmoreBird22 you and I were probably the only ones to have mocked him to us 😆

I mocked him to us about a month ago but I changed it to Corey Davis in my latest. I think my smokescreen theory about Davis was right btw, wasn't there talk of the ravens really wanting Davis hours before the draft?

I am beyond excited. Humphrey fits like a glove in this defense. I have so much hope that he'll be an excellent pro for so many years to come.

    I called this one.

One thing is for sure about this pick, he fits. I don't like the downside but in our system he can shine. We like top down attacking coverage and he does that better than any corner in the draft. We have the safety help to ease him into it.

And thank god, we have a corner who can stop the quick pass, finally. Hot read to Edelman on the blitz? Meet Humphrey, coming in like a missile to ruin your day.

But then again... play action deep shot and "welcome to the NFL marlon Humphrey" in the worst way... I hope he gets his head in the game and learns how to stay patient

our defense goes to hell every time jimmy goes down , so we draft the guy closest to jimmy and people are upset lol.

jimmy has same issues early is his career giving up big plays and he fixed it well.

humphrey will be on the same team as jimmy so he is actually in the best position he can be to learn from the guy his game is similar to.

I've seen the jimmy smith comp from day one, but jimmy had to develop a lot to be who he is now, so we're banking on a big development. I think Humphrey has a chance to be really special but there's also a chance that he struggles badly for a good amount of time.

Why would I talk about something that happened 5 years ago in a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with that superbowl? Am I supposed to make sure to bring up Flacco cussing after the superbowl everytime someone does something ignorant?

It's relevant to the subject at hand since you apparently can't tolerate any kind of cussing at all.

Im very foul mouthed, can't help it. But I'm far from a moron and do well for myself and am also a decent person.

You have idiotic standards for judging humanity and you should just stop on the subject because you look foolish and you're pissing people off by judging a young man overcome with emotion after fulfilling a major promise to his grandmother who he lost

Because it is unnecessary. It was a moment between him and his grandmother, not everybody else. Act like you still have some sense then release that emotion later.

why dont you act like you have a heart and be a regular person with a sense of understanding and be happy for him?

Doesnt mean he should act ignorantly on live television. I bet hes getting talked to right this second

so why do you have a vendetta against him? hes a great kid whos been through a lot of pain and heartbreak and came out successful by being a good person and hard worker.

there is absolutely no reason to bash the kid for dropping a f bomb while excited about the biggest day of his life. did you bash flacco for saying *dung* repeatedly on camera when we won the super bowl?
