SDSU ran some zone, and he's not really quick enough to play zone on the backside. What I've seen so far shows that he can do playside zone blocking and he punishes people on gap, but the scoop blocking from the backside is a weakness.
He just seemed goofy and top heavy to me, seemed like he had trouble controlling his motions and he wasn't getting the push I was expecting after reading his scouting reports. I was left quite disappointed. But I'll take another look when I get a chance

I believe we (effectively) used power blocking during the super bowl run, and then for some reason decided to ditch it the next season in favor of zone blocking?
Cheers
Man and gap and power is more a singular effort and zone is a group effort. In stretch zone the line runs laterally and shields guys off, the key is either forcing an overpursuit on the backside, or getting one guy to lose gap integrity, and then the rb hits the cut back lane and gets upfield, when you hear the term "one cut runner" they're referring to this sharp cutback.
Inside zone is a group effort from each half of the line, the line looks at the defenders on their side and has to put themselves in a position to shield off guys and get a sideways push, the goal is to open multiple gaps and getting a guy in the second level blocker, letting the rb take the best gap.
Man is a hat on a hat, gap is similar but targeted to one spot between 2 OL, say you're attacking the 2 gap against a 0 NT, the C will anchor the inside And push the nose to the right, while the LG takes the LB or DT and pushes them to the left, parting the defense.
Power is a gap concept, but involving pulling linemen and lead blockers to blast holes open, you often see the inside shoulder of the tackle targeted in power schemes, but dives are used often as well.

It's crazy how Steelers, Bengals, and Browns are going more dynamic on offense. Adding weapons left and right. We are going in the opposite direction and loading up on D.
All those offensive weapons will do nothing 2 games a year
Maybe I need to watch more of goose, because I'm seeing people who's opinion I respect praising this pick but I personally didn't like what I saw on film. I must have missed something
Just watched grudens qb camp. Kaaya seems like by far the most cerebral and pro ready qb. That man knows what he's doing, and knows what he's talking about.
That right there has me convinced he'll be the best qb of this class. Theee other guys don't seem anywhere near as mentally in tune with football as he appeared to be on that segment
Watching some film on wormley, and still not understanding why we took him, and while I had a lower grade on him, there's reason to be excited.
We have so much brute force on the front and so much incredible talent off the ball/on the edge. Wormley brings a skillset that collapses one side of the line in the pass rush. If we're rushing from a 43, wormley and Henry at DT could be a special tandem, judon or kaufusi and williams on the ends, bowser and correa at OLB. What the hell man, what a front.
And then for a 34 rush front we have kaufusi at the 5, wormley at the 3 with ability to slide wide into the 5, bwill at the nose, or pierce if he does better penetrating the pocket, then williams and bowser at OLB.
All with potentially the best secondary in the league.
I absolutely cannot believe how much our defense has changed in the past few years, this is gonna be a fun couple of years

Seriously this defense is going to be a monster for the next 4 years at least. When guys really start to catch on around their 2nd and 3rd years we should be topping the league in every category nearly
New advice...
find ways to make your current roster work. 1 TD and 1 FG per game should do it 😁

Isaiah Ford and either bisnowaty, Dorian Johnson, or Jon toth or elemuenor please. Chad Hansen is a decent prospect for us also
Not sure I see twill starting at strong side while bowser starts at ilb. Bowser strikes me as much more the starting OLB who moves in a lot, rather than starting ilb who moves out. But I'm splitting hairs here.
This should be the best defense in the league, there is no reason not to think so and no excuses for us being any less than top 3, no excuses for blown leads either. This should be a championship defense, we need to just hope we work out some stuff with free agents and camp cuts for offense.
Im very excited about this Team. This defense should look a lot like denvers SB defense

I hope this kid stays out of trouble please don't be Randy Gregory2.0.
Have you seen interviews of Gregory and heard the things he was telling teams? lol they're quite different. Gregory was a lost soul and had no chance, williams seems to have a real good head on his shoulders
Tim Williams is the new menace of this league. On THIS defense of all defenses, he is gonna be the most efficient 3rd down specialist.
Remember when McPhee had the top pass rush efficiency with us? T will is gonna crush that rating every year on this squad, and he will actually get home, look for 10 sacks rather than 6.
Might take him a year, but it's happening. I wanna order his damn jersey already but don't know if he's keeping 56!
6 hours ago, SepticeyePoe said:That's probably why. I'll give him a chance to prove that he is worth the pick.
Yeah definitely no effort or attitude issues. Just nothing stand out about the guy. He's a big dude and he will surprise you with a great sudden sidestep here and there and he'll close in faster than you expect, but for a man his size he seems to get tangled 1on1 with blockers quite often and get stuck in one place. Doesn't seem his strength is always there for him and the burst seems to come in spurts, it never seems to be there consistently.
2 minutes ago, hn68wb4 said:you mean Williams, we did not take Rivers
Right, I was typing that I was watching the pats take rivers lol
I cannot express how excited I am with this draft. The Humphrey and wormley picks, by themselves, aren't sitting well with me, but adding in bowser and rivers and it makes sense. We aren't playing anymore. 4th quarter leads are done being blown, by any means necessary we're gonna completely destroy every opposing offense. Marlon Humphrey will never show a weakness because he has every competitive edge a corner could ask for lmao. This defense is going to be absolutely ridiculous.
1 minute ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:Dude I literally would've had no issues if Tim Williams was our pick at 16.
This is awesome. Bowser and Williams. Humphrey on the back end. Wormley in the middle.
Seriously. Everyone knows t will is MY GUY. He's been my guy for months. I wish we took t will rather than wormley and then took Stewart or Godwin at 78 though, that's for sure
1 minute ago, Underdogsontop! said:Wow nice pick with Tim Williams. But who's going to block for Flacco??
Our defense will just block the opposing offense instead
Joe flacco can take a nap on the turf for all I care after this pick
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
My excitement for bowser immediately replaced with disdain
Raiders are gonna be dangerous. Karl
joseph last year, then Conley and melifonwu. They are serious about their secondary. They're gonna win a super bowl at this rate
Just now, robbie29 said:IDK- we seem to be drafting as if we still have Ray Lewis and Ed Reed on the team- future HOF players who will magically turn raw talent into Pro Bowlers. We have no HOF players on the roster! Suggs put up his best numberz and had his greatest swagger his first 10 years but has quieted down considerably since Reed and Lewis departed. I'm hearing how Bowser is sooo athletic. Ok, so was John Simon but he did nothing with Baltimore. Perriman was sooo fast, but hasn't lived up to a 1st round billing. So far this draft seems to be more focused on eventual contribution rather than immediate impact.
Have you seen bowsers film?

It's possible I watched a bad game of his, I'll admit I'm guilty of not doing my due diligence at times, if I see one really bad game from a guy I won't even bother. That's why I was so low on gareon Conley for so long because I watched mike Williams toast him so badly and stopped watching him lol
