  1. im thinking of buying whoever we draft in the first round, as long as it isnt arik armstead lol.

sadly i spent 100 on a elam jersey before week 1 of last season, waste. and i have a flacco SB jersey but its way too big, i reserve that one for going to games in the winter so i can fit a coat under it.

i try not to get the ones everyone else has, so current players i would consider are jernigan, williams, yanda, juice, and if he gets healthy and returns to form and stays around i think wagner is worth consideration as well, dude is the best RT in the league when healthy.

  2. brutal late season. luckily we play seattle at the bank. and facing STL late season worries me, one injury to any player on our OL could be lethal in that game, we need KO, yanda, and zuttah/urschel as our interior. im liking that we play pitt at the bank in week 16, that is awesome and it could be a real intense primetime game. we have to come out HOT against denver, week 1 peyton is dangerous, its when hes at his best and we dont have time to "develop" anything this year, we gotta be in midseason form from the first snap or we'll be falling behind in the conference race. we cant sleep on the raiders, they are not the same team they have been the past decade.

so realistically, i cant call week 1, but i think we will go 5-1 in the division with our loss coming from cinci. i could see us having a tough time in SF and AZ(carson palmer for some reason plays so well against us) and i have my worries about STL, we have a mauling OL but we dont handle dominant interior pressure as well in the passing game, STL is the type of defense that will give us fits because we will need to win every 1v1 matchup on the OL, not predicting a loss there just saying it could be a tough one. im calling 13-3 assuming we nail the draft and avoid the injury bug.

  3. I can't see him refusing to renegotiate an extension, and that's before you bring up his agent basically admitting at the time of signing that he'd need to be extended around next offseason.

The way Joe's contract was structured was a smart play by both sides. It lets us sign our franchise QB to the necessary mega contract but still stay competitive (for all the griping clueless fans do about how his contract is crippling the team), but from Joe's end it means he can get a favourable extension when the time comes - and I think he and his agent knew that when they signed his contract and made their demands after we won the Lombardi. From a player's perspective, you want all the long-term security you can get, and the backloaded structure of the contract ensures Joe doesn't just get one mega contract, but he then set himself to guarantee his six-year contract would last eight, 10 or even 15 years.

Bottom line: his cap hit is just leverage to secure his long-term future (beyond the initial contract), and his big contract was signed with intent to get extended down the line. I wouldn't panic about it, and I can guarantee you Ozzie isn't either.

this. nail on the head buddy.

joe isnt a greedy guy, he doesnt care about getting a fat signing bonus and big lump sum, he is family oriented, and he is building quite a large family too, the last thing he would want is to uproot his wife and kids, he wants long term security and he knows the way to get that is to take the 3 year "rent-to-own" contract. he gets his signing bonuses and still maintains a very nice salary figure, and playing here in baltimore allows him to stay close to home up there in jersey, and it keeps him in a respectable franchise in desirable playing conditions. joe is no dummy, he will take the extension with a big smile on his face knowing he gets to continue his possible hall of fame career close to home and keep his family rooted here in maryland.

  4. i never wanted castillo gone, i just wanted some of his sideline authority stripped. jim caldwell is simply not a very good OC and he needs big time weapons to make his system work, castillo and caldwell simply failed as a duo of coordinators and it was a bad idea to begin with. i dont think anyone should have EVER questioned his credentials as a teacher of the game, he is one of the greatest teachers the game has ever seen and he can turn the most raw of Olinemen into starting talents within 1 season of coaching.

  5. its not stupid logic, its always been illegal, they just outsmarted the refs because there was no specific rule deeming this illegal, leaving the refs confused, even though these tactics broke the rules which generally outline deception and trickery.

its a broad rule and it is there to keep the games fair, the general rule is "do not use blatant deception", otherwise no team in the league would just line up and play ball, there would be bendings of the rule book in every game and the refs would be scratching their heads wondering whether or not they should throw the flag. next thing you know there wouldnt be enough paper in the world to write the entire nfl rule book.

not to mention they declared an eligible and an ineligible, a timeout was called and they lined back up without re-announcing their eligbilities, which means the TE who lined up at the tackle position was an ineligible receiver and he still ran a route. THAT specifically is illegal, and has rules on it in the book, thats 5 yard illegal formation but the refs were so baffled by what they were witnessing they didnt know how to respond, but its the patriots so they figure its best to let them get away with it.

  6. No, no, and no. And, while we're on the topic, I never want to see Tampa's "creamsicle" jerseys or Green Bay's weird blue jerseys with brown helmets again. And please, please, no more bumblebee Steelers.

    bucs creamsicle uni's are incredible..

i seriously dont understand all the hate they get.

and it would be fun to see the 96 uni's in action once a year. would like to see them do it in 2016 as a 20 year anniversary thing

  7. I see it now. He finally gets Pt on his contract year. Plays at a pro Bowl level, and gets top dollar else where

i think so too. next year he will make the active roster and step in on occasion and show great promise, while daryl smith regresses, the following year cj and brown are full time starters and daryl smith is released right before the start of free agency, arthur brown comes in and plays navarro bowman to mosleys patrick willis, arthur brown goes to cleveland making 10mil per year and then gets swallowed by the ravens o-line twice a year :D

    2

  8. I do not agree with that, you don't spend the 16th overall pick on a player that won't start immediately. They can hee-haw all they want about it being a competition but it was Mosley's job to lose not Arthurs, I am not saying it turned out bad, though.

    this.

it would have taken a hell of a camp performance for a youngin like brown to take that job. daryl wasnt losing that job to anyone because cj was the all star but daryl smith called the shots, the coaches didnt feel comfortable having a rookie spearheading the defense by calling out pre snap adjustments etc.

i think there are 2 scenarios, either brown is just not looking good in practice, or they are just prepping him and keeping him healthy for the day they can unleash him on the world next to mosley when they are comfortable with him running the D on his own.

  9. Actually, in the section of the NFL rulebook covering the rules governing substitutions, it says this:

"These rules are in place to prevent teams from using substitutions in such a manner as to decieve their opponent"

So while technically not against stated rules, the substitutions were directly in violation of the stated intention of the rules.

i know but the patriots view on this is: "nowhere in the rule book does it specifically say that we can declare our rb ineligible and let our tight end up line up at left tackle and run a route as long as he declares eligible, so therefore it isnt against the rules"

and that legitimately is their attitude on the situation, it is pathetic and borderline childish how they respond to the criticism about it, they were wrong and they know it, if they dig deep enough into the rulebook to find this, then they know its illegal but 1 of 2 things will happen: they outsmart the refs and get away with it, or they get a 5yard penalty and dont try it anymore.

  10. The predictable whining of Beantown boneheads, who can be counted on to freak out whenever the Pat's tactics are questioned. You know, I'd wager that Belichick& Co aren't the only ones who thought of this bit of trickery- just the only team to use it.

yes because theyre the only ones low down dirty, and desperate enough to do something like that. dont kid yourself, it is deception and trickery, there is no specific rule defining it because it is a ridiculous scenario that the rulemakers couldnt have thought of on their own.

  11. In Geno's case, I think they legitimately wanted him to be the guy since he had a bit to learn from Birk, he just didn't pan out, which I think we all saw coming.  As far as settling for Chykie and Asa, we like Asa a lot and they hoped for a nice role for him, and they brought in so many other guys that just didn't pan out or got hurt (Ross, Franks ,Gorrer, Melvin). I get where you are going but its really tough to judge our off season right now, you need to let everything come into place.

i know what ur saying its just a pattern i have seen the past 2 offseasons and i would hate to see our DL get an injury bug and become "that group" that is a liability due to a lack of depth, that holds back an otherwise amazing team.

  12. Like all other players we deal with, we have a number for Guy and if he gets more he will most likely leave.  And you're telling me if this Guy leaves you will start to feel bad about our free agency period??! Come on guys, he was serviceable but Ozzie finds players like him all the time.

it just makes me think that ozzie is settling and expecting urban to recover and be the starter, and we have very little depth if that is the case. it happened with our OL 2 years ago when he settled for gino, it happened this year when he expected chykie and ajax to be competent depth, now both years those positions were hammered by injuries but i dont want this to be a trend, where we settle at one position and be only 1 injury away from it being a huge liability. the DL being a liability is unacceptable for a team that historically dominates in the trenches and wins with the defensive front seven.

  13. Thank you great post.  I do not know where anyone gets the idea that Will Hill is strictly a free safety, in fact, if you watched him last season when he excelled is when we let him go man up on TEs or come up short around the hashes.  I.E. his breakout game vs. the Saints and Jimmy Graham.  Kendrick Lewis is a guy that I had hoped we would take a look at last off season, but like others I assumed he signed more than just a one year prove it deal with Houston.  During Lewis's presser he said he wouldn't call himself a center fielder and he likes to come up in the box, and that is fair as you seem him blitzing through the line of scrimmage and that's a great skill set, no body wants to be labeled a one trick pony but make no mistakes he will be the FS.  Thinking about it, I think with both Lewis and Hill we could have something there, mainly due to the fact that they are both so versatile, deception is valued pre snap and if the QB does not know which of them is going to be where, there could be some turnovers to be had there

yes and thats what i was hoping we could have had with elam and brooks, but elam didnt pan out at his natural position of SS let alone show versatility to play free, and brooks was solid as a nickel corner and struggled everywhere else, and then got injured.

i think kendrick lewis on his own is an average safety, but if you can pair him with another versatile weapon like hill then suddenly they feed off eachother and both become much better

  14. Guy was good in the rotation but I'm not sure if you want to pay a good sum for a guy who's rotational. I'm not saying I want him to leave, It would be nice to keep him. But with the losses we've sustained, I wouldn't be upset seeing him leave.

well i dont think hes gonna be commanding any kind of fat contract. if thats the case then thats unfortunate because he certainly isnt worth more than a 2m/year type of deal, at least not at this point. but i didnt think he was asking for big money

  15. where is this common idea coming from that will hill is purely a FS?

he is versatile and plays both spots, but on the giants they had a stud SS in antrel rolle, and the ravens have nothing at FS forcing him to play there, but safety was a revolving door for us and hill showed that he is a decent FS but a dominant SS, one of the best in the league. most FS's dont play man up on feature TE's and attack the slot and the flats, that is where will hill showed absolute dominance.

kendrick lewis on the other hand is a natural FS who can play some good run support. if lewis is the starter day 1, he will be FS and hill will be the SS.

if anything it gives us  a reliable presence and ballhawking potential at FS and most importantly it gives us stability to allow our other players to step into their best roles.

  16. Guy was a good rotational player, but I wouldn't be upset if he left.

i think he was underrated, were losing alot of potential if he walks. when he was on the field he was disruptive, and he was tough, when he stepped into the lineup he was so consistently around the ball, every backfield pileup that happened when he was on the field was either caused by him or he was right there to clean up.

i see him as one of those guys that comes to the ravens as a very under the radar signing, and quietly becomes a very good starter, we do it with low draft picks on the DL all the time, if we can keep him around i really can see him becoming better for us than what arthur jones was. he could be a dominant run defender for us and i dont think tyson or urban could bring what he brought, they are more suited for getting to the qb, lawrence guy is an excellent space eater and a good anchor for stopping the run

  17. Aaron Wilson (@RavensInsider) tweeted at 11:29 PM on Tue, Mar 17, 2015:

Sources: Ravens free agent defensive lineman Lawrence Guy to visit Jets on Thursday: http://t.co/xJa0ukUyOd

    NOOOOONONONO this is bad.

we are making a GIANT mistake letting guy walk. he is a stud in the rotation and i fully believe he can be a serviceable starter if needed. if we let him walk then i will start feeling kinda down about this offseason

  18. If you are a pro athlete and you keep getting in trouble over and over for using it then the rehab is in order. It is way worse with Lyerla, wasn't marijuana only.

i was referring more to blackmon i havent followed lyerla not even a little.

i think its pretty clear blackmon doesnt have an addiction but rather mental health concerns. it seems his brain stopped progressing in his later teen years. i have been raised around these people and i have seen more of these kinds of people than most, hell i was one of them until one day a switch flipped and i decided it was time to grow up.

marijuana is not addictive, plain and simple, the closest thing to a marijuana addiction is people feeling that it keeps their head straight, some people have legitimate mental issues that marijuana is simply the perfect cure for, some people on the other hand are just immature and dont want to give it up, rehab wont fix either of these things. if blackmon has these mental issues, then he needs to just retire from the nfl and move out to colorado, if blackmon is just childish, he will continue to do these things until one day he just snaps out of it and realizes that he has an incredible gift that will carry him through life and that smoking a little reefer just isnt worth it. either way, people will do what they want to do, he needs to get his head on straight and grow up, rehab cant do that for him.

  19. Agreed, but didn't Cameron sign with Miami?

i hadnt heard this but no big deal, when comparing him and housler its "proven commodity/big contract/injury concerns" vs "unproven TE with huge potential who has been on a sorry offense his whole career"

housler doesnt have the stats to warrant a massive contract, at least not as big as what cameron was looking for, but like i said he has been on a bad offense, with inconsistent at best qb play, and he would be coming to an offense that historically loves their TE's and gets the most out of them, and has very good hands and great athletic ability, he brings alot of assets to our offense and wouldnt come at a huge price.

our failure to address the TE position is the only thing that has me worried, with teams not being evidently interested in houselers services i think we could get him on the cheap, i think charles clay is a bit overrated as is chandler, theyre both solid but i dont think they would be worth a bidding war.
