Instead of criticizing the fun kicking rule, or beating up on players and calling them busts, I think I will talk about something relevant like our run defense, who by the chart is tremendous so I would like to mention 2 things.
1. Sign Brandon Williams. Just do it, no excuses, I don't care, he is like Ngata in his prime, or better, we need him bad. Other players improve when he is playing beside them. That is a person we need to keep as we have few of them on this team
2. Lets shut down the Miami run game and make Jay Ajayi useless and then lets go to town getting Tannehill to throw balls to our secondary. Granted, our secondaries not so great on the catching side, but I think we are due for a couple interceptions in this game once we shut down Ajayi. Tannehill is known for poor decision making.
Let's go Joe... Go Ravens!!!!
SLIDE!!!!"he is like Ngata in his prime, or better, we need him bad" I am not trying to take anything away from Brandon. He is a good player but not as good as Ngata. Ngata was a force to be reckoned with in both the run and the pass game. He was much more agile/athletic than BW in his prime. BW is going to get paid well, and most likely too well, which will take us out of the bidding for his services. He is going to be this years KO (I think we have a better chance of signing him than we did with KO). I am sure there are many people like you who have already checked the "indispensable" box, and i am sure there are some people who think resigning him is a given, but I don't think thats true. One of the biggest reasons why we will let him go (besides the price tag) is Michael Pierce. Pierce is playing at a remarkably high level considering he came from a lower level of competition (BW was only activated for 6 games in his rookie season). His potential is much greater than BWs because he is such a freak of an athlete. He matches or beats every one of Ngatas combine scores. Now, there are guys that tear up the combine and put up ridiculous numbers that turn out to be busts, but MPs rookie year has shown that he is the real deal. He is only going to get better from here. And when BW takes the money I am sure you will chastise him for being selfish and you will criticize the team that he goes to, just as you did with KO (K.O. is selfish, KO is going to a terrible team a "black hole") but hopeful Michael Pierce will be able to make that bitter pill a bit sweeter.
Defensive end and secondary is where the money should be on defense...We do great at drafting run stoppers...Pierce and Jernigan can fill the void when B. Williams gets overpaid...We need to get a pass rusher soon...Sizzle and Doom are almost done playing the game
Extra point for kickoffs between the uprigths would IMHO put dome teams in an unfair advantage. They'd be guaranteed at least half of their games in domes where long kicks are much easier in lack of wind... The Ravens have 1 dome game this season (in Dallas), while there are kickers who can kick in domes 10 out of 16 games... That would be unfair.
I don't find the advantage though. The opponents of the dome teams would have the same opportunity every time they played in the dome. They would just have to be as skilled as the kicker of the dome team. Would they have a higher accuracy? Yes. But their opponents would have a higher accuracy when they played inside the dome also just like on field goals. Justin Tucker hit that 61 yard field goal against Detroit in the dome. He had the same advantage as the Lions kicker.
"that would push their win total to eight" ??? The Ravens are 6-5, the Dolphins are 7-4 ... I don't like the implications of this typo.
Good I am not the only one to see this error make it to the press.
He said if we defeat the Dolphins and the Eagles at home it will push the win total to 8...he just worded it confusing
Juden is already head and shoulders above another wasted Ravens high draft pick, Upshaw. At least they let him go. Juden and Young have been great positives on defense while the $20 mil quarterback continues to play like crap. If not for Tucker, the absolute best on the team, we would already be looking at next year. Good to see Suggs do well and Dumervil make an important play.
The 20 million quarterback has to go. Flacco has no competitive he just meekly walks off the field, like he didn't get his ice cream for desert. Ravens, it's time to reward Justine Tucker with a good contract, now, don't let him hit the open market, lock him up NOW.
Tucker got his contract over the summer...Where have you been?.. Also it is Justin and not Justine and, for everybody else, it is Judon and not Juden.
Another thing we lack is durability. We drafting and signing guys that are often injured
Sergio Kindle was a special case in that department and what a waste of a draft pick that was.
Perriman has been a waste of a pick and he continues to not get any separation.
Stanley hasn't held up well for a rookie tackle.
The rest of the offensive line besides Zuttah have been injured.
Wright is often hurt aside from being garbage.
Jimmy Smith is often injured.
Dumervil has zero stats this season. None.
Correa has been missing in action a bunch.
Webb has been injured consistently since his big deal.
Lorenzo Taliaferro has not been available most of the year due to injury.
Pitta hasn't held up well .
Finding Max Williams on the game field is harder than finding Waldo.
Crocket Gilmore has been often injured also.
That's three tight ends right there that rarely touch the field. Add the fact that Nick Boyle keeps pissing hot and our 6-7 tight ends becomes just hobbled Pitta and Darren Waller.
And this list pales in comparison to last season.
For one thing, the Ravens need to change the old ones and replace them with these ones. There sick. I hope somebody can aware them but overall great victory. We control our destiny in the division. ?
Too early for all that control our own destiny stuff. Technically, the Bengals control their own destiny in the division also, even though they are 2 wins behind us.
Interested to see who gets cut from our deep running back, tight end, and wide receiver positions
This was a great pick for building a winning team. Some of your guys just don't get it.
Name one game or even 3 to 4 games where a better offensive tackle would have helped us win and get to the playoffs last year??? We went 3-7n with Flacco and 2-4 without. All adds up to 5-11. Offensive tackle was not our problem. We know and everyone else in the league knows it was our defense.
You do realize that the Ravens defense was the second rated defense in the last half of the season, right?
This trade made no difference. Browns were probably going to pick a QB any way but I think they wised up and going to build up all their other positions then find a QB. This is bad news for Ravens. All those picks could push Ravens into forth place in coming years. Nothing last forever not even Browns miseries.
Don't believe everything the mock drafts suggest - for a lot of times those who make the mocks are in the dark just as much as we, simple fans are... It was not at all sure that the Browns would have picked a QB - if that was their real intent, they wouldn't traded the #2 pick, would they?
And anyway, more and more draft analyses concluded that the Browns would have much more probably picked one of the real stars of the class: Tunsil, Ramsey or Jack - maybe even Elliott.
I do believe the Browns were going to pick a QB, but all GMs listen to deals and they got a blockbuster one. We all like Joe Flacco, but if the Falcons called and offered Matt Ryan plus Julio Jones and a fourth round pick, I'd wish Joe all the luck in the world in Atlanta.
How do you catch 7.5 TD's?
Easy...Catch 8 one year and 7 the next or catch 6 one year and 9 the next...it's an average number...Mike Wallace had 10 his first year in Miami and 5 the next, hence 7.5 average.
Yea but which team is winning?
Just because Ed Dickson is on a winning team does not mean he is worth anything as a player. You can hide a Waste products among a bunch of diamonds and the diamonds will still be valuable. We won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer as our quarterback, so Ravens fans know about hiding our weaknesses. I do believe Flacco won MVP in a Super Bowl with Michael Oher blocking for him even though Oher was ranked dead last among all tackles in pass protection that season and that list included 79 tackles.
Ed Dickson is still good, One of Cam's favorite targets
Really? From what I see, Dickson has 15 catches on the entire season for a measly 121 yards. Dickson has 10 games this season with 0 or 1 catches. Javorius Allen had 12 catches for us against Miami alone for 107 yards.
If it's this bad now just imagine if we beat Cincinnati and Mallet plays decent.
Pittsburgh is almost dead last in defense in passing yards allowed...Cincy is 20th and has an injured backup playing...I expect to beat Cincy this week if we can hit AJ McCarron a few times early, but that doesn't give you a real measure of how good Mallett is if he wins against a bad pass D and an injured and less experienced backup
Face it... super bowl teams have one thing in common... a good OL. Flacco needs to help out with the salary cap so we can sign KO. If he won't... maybe, just maybe Mallett is a better option.
Your option would be to trade Joe if he doesn't restructure? That's cool. It would only cost us 26 million against the 2016 cap for a player that isn't playing, which saves us basically nothing as his cap hit is pretty close to that number.
Ryan or Joe? I was surprised when Joe was picked. I think he would have been a second rounder if the Ravens didn't pick him. I don't know of another team that was interested in him. So Ryan being picked ahead no big deal. Fast forward to the present. Ryan has everything Joe has and even more mobility. What Ryan doesn't have is the switch that Joe has. The switch that turns Joe from mundane to superstar. The will not to give up. However, it is strange how these two players are eerily similar with regards to regular season numbers. With Ryan have a passing minded team and Joe having a run first team, one would think the numbers would be more dramatic in difference. Besides, why not Joe? I take Joe over Ryan just for the magic.
The yards and TDs are in favor of Ryan. Let's not forget that Ryan has missed a couple of games and Joe has started every game for the Ravens since being drafted.
