I don't disagree that they are better now but when you've got 3 guys in the last 5 years or so who were taken in the top ten and two of them are all pros at key positions; you can't just ignore that. The ravens would love to have Beasley let alone julio jones. The defense definitely would have been even better in the first half of the season and who knows maybe they win two or three of those 4 straight losses. The difference is they lack quality at key positions like WR and OLB. They made a step in the right direction with Stanley and should at the very least be better next year if flacco gets his game in order.

But here is the thing.  Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, Vic Beasley, and Kyle were all together year before together.  They went 8-8 finish.  This year complete turn around. And theThe biggest difference that clearly improved is Matt Ryan.  He made it his mission in offseason to really get better.

I hope Flacco is really being honest when he said he'll be putting in an effort this offseason to improve.

I didn't realize Courtney Upshaw was a Falcon.

Now I'm tempted to say something like "no wonder their mediocre at best on defense."

Can someone tell me how the Packers managed only 1 touchdown until late in the third against a team like this?

If you need an excuse, the whole packers had flu going in their lockerroom and all 3 receivers(nelson, davante, allison) all caught flu and are injured.

No excuses though, they sucked today.

Terrible, but from what I know of him, he's got some sort of a future in coaching if that's where he wants to go from here. Super smart guy and you obviously don't make it as an UDFA unless you're willing to work harder than everyone else.

Even if he doesn't have the title to be a coach, I'd love to have him here in some staffing capacity.   Jobs a job.  Would love to see him get some opportunity if he has the talent to coach/teach.

Agreed, but like I keep saying, if the FO gives him any type of weapons.....that would be nice

Mike Wallace & SSS were 'any type of weapon' I'm sure.    Ask Aaron Rodgers or Brady if having Gronk/Nelson gave them any excuse to play poorly.

  5. Saw it.  Only the best owner in the biz.  His message is clear.   I urge fans of the Ravens organization to check it out.   Going 3 out of 4 season with no playoffs is not an option and he made it VERY clear that he expects Flacco to play like a top tier QB next year.

I hope Flacco prepares himself to the best of his ability offseason to get us back to get the Lombardi again.   Play like a top-tier elite QB.  We paid him, and we expect success.  No more complacent Brock Osweiler failure in Ravens town.  Lets see what Flacco can do and make the decision to address it asap.

  6. Dan Feeney @ 2nd round & Tyler Orlovsky the very next round as our center.   Back to back O-line upgrade for offense.

If we can't get either of those, at least grab Quenten Nelson from Nortre Dame  @ 3rd round if we grab WR and Pass rush early.

That's the problem, at least with me. I'm not protecting Joe. He's a grown man and he doesn't send me a single penny to make excuses for him. I just like factual debates. If you are telling me that having a Julio Jones to throw to doesn't greatly improve your entire offense, I don't see how we can have a honest convo. If you are telling me that Joe needs to have a great running game, than ok I'll agree but don't tell me how poor Edelman was to make a point and disagree the fact that the Patriots weren't a pass heavy team in 2017.

11 TD in 11 games isn't fine enough, certainly not for me and I'm not one of those guys who will point out all the potential dropped TDs because I could just as easily point out all the missed TD by Joe or the opportunities he had to hit guys in stride for RAC that could have lead to TDs but threw poorly. Now if that's the convo you want to have than great, I'll gladly go game by game and breakdown every Flacco throw when I have time. But just don't come with the typical emotional argument that don't have facts to back them. Fact is 11 TDs in 11 games is terrible. But the fact is also that over his final 8 games Flacco had like 15TDs 8Ints, which would suggest that he improved greatly. Now the average of 1 pick a game over that stretch isn't good, but he generally put this team in position to win games during the second half of the season and had it don't been for a defensively collapse this team probably would have went 7-2 over the final 9 games easily.

Let's talking about things Flacco and the Ravens need to do to improve. Why did Flacco struggle so much early in the season. Do you feel he's regressed and if so, what do you see in his game. I just don't want to have the oh he's not as good as Matt Ryan who has a WR that looks like he was created in the Madden game while Flacco has guys like Kamar Aiken complaining he's not getting the ball enough.

I've said in the past that the best way to improve the offense is by Flacco reducing significant amount of his salary.   Not an extension but reduce his salary so that we can bring in playmakers and depth around him.  That is the way to help the team.

Our record in the past 4 years since Flacco contract is less than .500.   That is a huge difference compare to what we achieved with Flacco @ rookie contract.   The way I see it, we need to evaluate all the players in our roster.  If they do not exceed the performance of their contract, it needs to be readjusted.  Just b/c he is a QB should not be an excuse to have him hold this team hostage.

He is a 10th year QB.  He is what he is now.  There is no 'grooming' for Flacco.   If not, Flacco must somehow miraculously go "drew brees" @ his 10th season to improve himself, that is the only solution to turning around the offense around.

Either you can bring in playmakers that offset Flacco skills to turn the offense or he can find a way to build rapport with players @ draft.   So far, Flacco has proven he can build chemistry with polished veteran receivers.   New drafts? No.  Maxx, Crockett, Breshad, Chris Moore, or any drafted receiver since 2014 has not built any rapport with Flacco.

Julio Jones played in 14 games, had 83rec 14,000yds and 6TDs. 14 out of 16 games isn't missing half the season. Not to mention the 2 games that Julio missed were the 9ers and Rams, I'd hardly call them studs defensively. I give Matt Ryan all the credit in the world for what he's done this season, but if we're calling a spade a spade, well.

Seeing as thought both SSS and Wallace had better  production than Sanu and Gabriel i'd say you're right to say SSS and Wallace are better, when you have a freak that can put up 300 yards a single game and often draws double if not triple teams, I'd say it's safe to say he impacts coverage for those guys. Again calling a spade.

I did not know it was 2 games.  I apologize.   Looking at the game Julio wasn't there, it didn't affect him statistically.

I find it a little funny how some folks here find the smallest of details  protect joe, but never answer rest of statement i made.

I suppose 11 TD @ 11 games is more than fine enough to be ignored im sure.

Name one quarterback that could carry their team to the playoffs without a solid supporting cast.

Im pretty sure Mike Wallace and SSS is better than Gabriel & Sanu.  With Julio missing half a season Ryan led Falcons to a bye-season.

Tom Brady has Edelman and another random receiver that pads stats every game.    Don't tell me Edelman is a premier receiver.  He drops at least +5 balls a game but Brady still moves the chain.

If you play great, you can move the chain and score points.

If you told me with SSS & Mike Wallace that a QB will go 11TD in 11 games to start the season that is no good.   Whatever way you want to spin it.

In 2014 He also threw 4TDs in the playoffs in NE, guess we will just ignore that....

Oh my...how can I miss that....ill just add few more weeks in advance to joe's credit.

3 years* is that ok for you?

  11. Here is an interesting stat for you:

Aaron Rodgers threw 16 TD 0 INT past 4 games.

It took Joe Flacco 11 games to get 11 TDs.

Lets not throw Joe under the bus yet.   He did have one game where he threw 4 TD vs. Miami.

Last time Joe threw above 3 TD? 2014 three years ago once vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneer who finished 2-14 @ end of the season.

You're right on the mark! If Joe were Tom Brady, Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers, the supposed expectations that he should not need to be surrounded by "weapons" would be realistic. I think we have pretty well established he is not. One has only to view the ongoing playoff games to realize that our current crop of receivers are not on par with the marquee teams. Our guys give up on balls instead of fighting for them, they drop wide open passes and they get practically zero separation. We need playmakers. Is it any surprise Joe has had to complete so many checkdown passes to RBs and short passes to Dennis Pitta? No! Joe is not Harry Houdini. He cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I will take all their weapons over what the Ravens have.

Joe's overthrows/underthrows and his incredible accuracy sure help receivers catch those 'dropped' passes.

Agreed, but I think that depends on how they're treating the team right now.  Do they still think they can remain competitive?  In that case, I'd extend Webb.  If they're looking at a mini rebuild of sorts, then definitely let him go.

The main reason I'm amenable to the idea of extending Webb is that I don't see it as a huge cap commitment for the future.  I think Webb also realizes he's on the downside of his career, so I can't see him pressing for too much at this point.

Webb seems to have proven himself to be a reliable safety.  Not a great safety but capable.  I suppose we will see, but I don't see Webb being in much of a market anymore in FA.   He had so many ups as well as downs.  Plus I think Webb can appreciate secondary finally starting to have some structure in Ravens defense(when we have the full crew available).

I would still love to see few DB being looked @ draft though.   Jimmy going down was like Seattle not having Earl Thomas.  We need depth and bring in players that turns to gem like Tavon.

Not the article I was referring to the other day, but it looks like Zrebiec is also reporting that Williams will be the priority.

"Williams will be the Ravens' priority over a group of free agents that also includes starting right tackle Rick Wagner, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, wide receiver Kamar Aiken and defensive end Lawrence Guy. Those four could return if the price is right, but there will probably be more money available to them elsewhere."

I like the fact that we are keeping Lawrence Guy in mind.   He has been one of the most underrated player in the roster.   He has been absolute VALUE in terms of what we got from his contract.

If we can't grab B.Will, at least grab Lawrence.  Missing 2 major starters @ D-line will get our run D back into square one.
