Excellent point & I agree. Very happy for Tyrod and I'll always root for him.Not directed at you but I'm bored, so why not: Running games and defenses are always used to try and discredit Joe and I don't understand it. The most common argument people use for quality & popular QB's like Brady or Brees, is that their ability to throw the ball is directly responsible for their teams total success. It certainly undoubtedly helps a ton. But just because a couple of, (hate to say it but) "Elite" QB's are having tremendous amounts of individual success, as well as team success, (with completely different circumstances than anyone else) it diminishes the play of the great ones. Makes good ones look average. And bad ones look horrible. They act like some QB's are Gods among men and don't need help from others. Or don't account for every coach/GM who has a different philosophy and operates in different ways which effects everything including personnel decisions. Or things like age and experience which factor in a ton... The front office knows they don't have to lean on building a great defense anymore to have team success. That doesn't mean not striving to have for a great defense. But Joe has grown a ton every year. He doesn't need to rely on great defenses, run games or receivers to have individual success. But having at least 2-3 of those things, combined with our great QB, will certainly dictate team success. Everyone needs great OL play as well. That's what makes him special and among the top. That's why we're starting to heavily invest in weapons. So he can get some help and continue to ball out while winning. This most recent draft being a great example of that. Unfortunately we're in the middle of a change in philosophy and rebuilding the roster doesn't just happen in 1-2 years unless we strike gold. It's especially hard when coordinators are changing every year. Not to mention key injuries occurring, which further hurts Joes perception since outsiders don't care enough to pay close enough attention to what's going on. We fans who follow him know him the best. The media strongly effects mass opinion unfortuanelty. It's a popularity contest in a lot of cases when putting one QB over another. That's why he truly gets a bad wrap. Colleges have changed significantly over recent years in getting QB's ready for the NFL. That's why a lot of these young guys have a lot of immediate individual success when entering the league. In turn, people scratch their heads and wonder why Joe didn't put up these stats, which must mean he's not as good....But look at them as a team and they haven't had as much success. The Seahawks being an exception... They are also beginning to give Russell more responsibility, partly because they have to. They have smart people in charge there, but they keep losing a lot of great players due to that one thing that sucks about success. That's why drafting is so important. Russell has proven he can make ridiculous throws and not turn the ball over, and a lot of time also gets a bad wrap, but I digress.... Excuse the vent, just felt like unloading.
