  1. Time to draft a #1 WR in the first or second round. In tired of living in wide receiver purgatory. Ozzies been disastrous with this most of his career. Let Decosta scout WR's or something idk.

I think its been disastrous more so because ozzie literally waits till the end of every draft to pick up bottom of the pile wr thats most likely gonna be on the practice squad.

  2. I think we need a starting WR who can make a difference. I look at guys who are in unfortunate situations who are playing in abysmal offenses with poor QB play. I don't see Roddy White in that situation, I think the guy has slowed down, I don't think he has much left in him anymore. How would he elevate his play here? White is surrounded by Julio Jones and DeVonta Freeman, a good Oline and a competent QB, he shouldn't be playing this poorly.

I feel that same way about Nate Washington and I'm starting to have my doubts about Garcon as well. He's been the clear cut top option in Washington. I want a guy who makes his QB looks good.

While Vincent Jackson has his inconsistencies, he's still the best WR out of that bunch. I'd sign him, then trade up for a WR who will be there in the 2nd like Michael Thomas or Tyler Boyd, I think there's a good chance we'll trade up for a WR in this upcoming draft.

    This!

  3. Before we knock old receivers just remember the alternative is a corps made up of practice squad/camp bodies like the one we have now. Brandon Marshall and Andre Johnson were available for peanuts a few months ago.

Top 5 studs don't just fall out of trees so if you don't have one you sign someone who used to be, we've had modest success doing this for years, Mase, Boldin, Smith etc.

Yep.We can't go into next season with this type of wr corps. In addition to your point,if you cant get a top 5 wr,nothing wrong with a mix of wrs outside the top 5 and good wr from the draft.

  4. jimmy smith is not sorry, and webb has actually been serviceable this year, inconsistent though. you know where we have had absolute garbage play from the first snap of the season until the last? at free safety, i cannot emphasize this enough, bad free safety is hard to spot for the untrained eye, its easy to say jimmy or webb is getting burned every other snap, but covering your zone while the FS is in the completely wrong area is a blown assignment by the safety, but all you see on tv is the cb getting beat. with a top flight FS who knows how to follow assignments, then webb and jimmy look much better.

and with all the resources weve put into the front seven, one thing we havent successfully addressed is a long term pass rusher and you simply cant make it without that. an average secondary plus a great pass rush will go much further than the inverse, and with a good FS then our secondary would actually make it past "average", jimmy, webb, arrington, will hill, and jalen ramsey would make up a pretty formidable secondary, but they would still get beat with ease because theres no pass rush.

lets also remember, dean pees doesnt coordinate FOR his players, if he doesnt have a safety who can communicate and is smart within the scheme, then we will struggle, we've seen communication problems, blown assignments by the safeties, wayyyy too soft coverage, and qb's having all day to throw farrr more than weve seen our cb's getting straight up beat

Jimmys not sorry(I shoulda wrote that hes the exception)but hes not playing up to the contract we've given him.Webb since his last injury hasn't been the same and is no longer a #2 cb in the league and has regressed largely.I agree that free safety play shores the mediocre cb play but it can only do so much. We've tried to address pass rush but many of our picks haven't been hitting.Arthur Brown,John Simon,Upshaw,,Lewis Moore,Za darius Smith, Jernigan,Williams,Urban etc. Those are alot of talented guys and we still haven't seen a great pass rush. Not saying they have to be ray lewis but with the exception of Jerningan and Williams, non of those guys have shown anything of what they were projected to be.Simon isn't even on the team anymore.Lewis Moore is just getting on the field for the first time in 2 years.Urban's following the same path.I understand injuries happen but I'm just showing what we've invested in and how they've worked out so far. What i'm saying is that we should start investing the same resources and have the same urgency on other parts of the team.

  5. OLB is absolutely a bigger hole than cb. a 3-4 defense is predicated on strong OLB play and we have zadarius smith, courtney upshaw, and elvis dumervil, upshaw is as 1 dimensional a player as youll ever find, zadarius smith is still a total unknown as he has gotten 3 coverage sacks but otherwise has been invisible, and dumervil cant do anything on his own without someone to take off the pressure, and suggs is on his 2nd achilles tear and is now well into double digit seasons as an nfl player, dont be surprised if he isnt even starting material next year or ready for the season opener. so if we are starting zadarius smith and dumervil at OLB next year you are  comfortable with that? im much more comfortable addressing FS and OLB and letting jimmy and webb start at cb. webb has not been that bad this year, jimmy is coming off of an injury that has a very long recovery time and is not fully healthy yet, and horrid FS play will automatically make competent cb play look bad, zero pass rush turns that into a perfect storm of suckiness. with a pass rush and FS then our cbs will look like studs

Im a lot more comfortable with Zadarius and Dumervil than with the sorry cbs that we've been putting out there the last three years. We put all these resources into the front seven but for the last couple year lb or pass rusher is always an offseason "need".We get these guys so its time to let them play and see what they have. What i'm saying is when it comes to wr and secondary concerns, ozzies willing to get whatever bandaid solution,6-7th round pick or undrafted free agent to come in and will leave it like that and rinse and repeat every offseason.Meanwhile if theres even one glaring need on the front seven,he gets it addressed.Theres clearly a bias for one sector of the defense and team and theres no way to dispute this.Even if we have a good pass rush with a good front seven like last year, our secondary still gets shredded because when you dont invest the resources in the secondary, you get exactly what were seeing right now.I also get that Pees plays a factor in this but then that would also mean that he plays a role in why we have no rush, the same way we our secondary is trash.

  6. nail on the head. we might be picking top 5 in next years draft and people are gonna be banging the table for laquon treadwell.

i already see over half the boards with the mindstate that even if we were picking first overall then the pick HAS to be hargreaves even though FS and OLB/edge are both bigger holes than cb and with better talent at the top.

the inability of some people to understand that all teams have peaks and valleys, the league is designed to FORCE teams to suffer through this occasionally, and that the only way to get back to the peak is to stick to our proven winning strategy, weve picked in the bottom half for 7 straight years now, of course we have some misses, weve also found some total steals, and ozzie isnt about to blow our first high pick in years by making a monumental reach, he will stick to the formula and find us a stud in the the early first and second and we will be on our way.

I agree with you with most of what you wrote Joey, but there is no way that lb/edge rusher is a bigger hole than cb or wr on this team. With the amount we've invested int he front seven in terms of draft resources, the secondary has to be the biggest focal point this offseason along with the receiving core.Ozzie's neglected them for way too long and the results are showing.Thats not to say pass rush isn't important but we can't keep doing this in which we put the majority of picks into one segment of the defense.

  8. Perriman is not a #1. It shows how terrible the ravens weapons are when fans are going after other teams #3 WR. Many desperate teams like the ravens have shopped #3 WRs thinking they could be starters only to learn they are not as good when an elite WR is not helping them get open. Put another quarter in the merry go round.

I look at it the same way.It really puzzles me how people can be content with these subpar receiving cores every year with guys like Aiken,Camp,Brown,Stokley,Butler etc.Even suggest guys like Kearse or Marvin Jones.jones is good but i think he's more a product of that offense with Green and Eifert. As long as were content and neglect the receiving corps, well have the same issue every year.

  9. I can see why people are upset with the WR thing. But the veteran thing works. If you can get a few good seasons out of them on the cheap where they are reliable, then it was a success.

SSR is going to be gone. If you convince him to play one more year then the WR problem potentially solves itself for now.

My point is we have more prevolant issues at hand. Issues that are holding us back because we cannot cover them. You can cover a WR corps issue.

You cannot cover up lack of a pass rush. Or bad(granted, they're hurt again, so take that as you will. Whether you want to admit it or not, it is a big contributing factor to why we've been loising games) CB play. Or bad safety play. Or lack of a running game.

If you have a good running game(which we don't. We lack the RB to have that), and you have a good TE corps(which it looks like we do). You can honestly stick in a WR#2 there and have a succesful offense. That guy for all we know could be Perriman.

    We need

    OLB

    OG

    FS

    CB

    RB

    Before we need a WR.

Once again i feel you lost, but i think wr needs to be in there along with with fs and cb before olb or rb.In this age of the nfl(not saying we need to go all offense),with Joe as our guy were building around and the money we're investing,we need an 1 and 2 and possibly 3 recievers that strike fear in any opponent we play.Especially with the defenses in the north. The we put rb and olb before wr every time is why we always have it as a need.Just saying.

  10. Hindsight is 20/20. Kindle was not a bust because of Ozzie. We had no idea. And Elam could still possibly turn it around.

Ozzie takes the BPA. Many dissagree with the method but I see it's stregnths. He makes picks that make the team better as a whole. Mosely and Jernigan may be having sophmore slumps but even then have had plays where they look like they did last year. BPA is something I convey a lot because genrally it does make the team better. CJ and Jernigan are pretty darn good. As is Carl Davis who was also a BPA pick. Maxx? We traded up to get him because of BPA. And Elam was in a horrid draft class tbh. Allen is a good WR yes, but that class is just awful.

I'm happy with Jernigan and Mosley over Jordan Matthews tbh. Jeffery is better than Upshaw and Allen is better than Brown and Elam. I'll admit that. But I'm happy with most of the players I have. We've been putting up points with this crappy corp. And we're missing a few players. I think if Campanaro ever finds a way to stay healthy(and btw. I do think his IRing is a precautionary thing), and Perriman makes improvements suddenly the corps turns around. We already have two good TEs.

We just need a veteran to help out. It's why I want one. We need a leader there.

Agreed.I just wish sometimes we go for need instead of BPA when it comes to reciever or corner. When the front seven has a need whether its bpa or not, ozzie gets it.Just wish he would show the same love to the corps and secondary.

  11. Yes, because Ozzie would rather go get an option that has done something with his career at a position he historically has drafted poorly at. Travis Taylor, Patrick Johnson, Devard Darling, Mark Clayton turned out to be decent, Tandon Doss was bad at WR. When you're only hit is Torrey there's a problem

I feel you Lost but there were some blatant misses that for some reason or not Ozzie didn't pick up.I can still remember in 2013 screaming at the tv for him to pick up keenan allen in the 3rd round(Rookie of the year or a Jordan Matthews in 2014 in the 2nd(even if we had to do a trade).Alshon Jeffery in 2012 instead of trading back to get courtney upshaw.I understand that you can't predict how these guys skills will translate to the league but that never stopped him on defense.Kindle,Cody,Elam,Brown,Upshaw could all be used as examples of busts but we still pump out picks on the defense we understand that drafting isn't a science. Also I think alot of our picks hit because we had a framework core of Lewis,Reed,Ngata and Suggs and many guys would look good next to them(which would explain why most defenders that leave Baltimore in FA really dont do anything expectations wise).Im sure if we had a definite 1 and 2 combo, we could add average wrs and they could work. On last example is how with a talented class of receivers in 2014 ozzie managed to only come away with Camp in the 7th round. We never really got a good gauge of Ozzies receiver drafting skill in the Flacco era because he literally uses the last picks to pick them up,which lets be honest, those guys are most likely going to the practice squad.

  12. If we sign Jermaine Kearse and Marvin Jones we'll be PERFECTLY fine on offense as Long as one doesn't mess up. The draft needs to be all about defense. Ramsey, a comer and pass rusher.

Not trying to sound mean, but with smith retiring and perriman being an unknown at this point, and our lackluster receivers,Jones and Kearse aren't really a that big of a threat in any receiving core.We can't keep neglecting wr like that.

    1

  13. I like Trumaine Johnson, but I don't wanna see us compete for him. If the market is too high for us then I'd like to see us look at other option. I like Prince Amukamara but he has trouble with injuries. I can't trust that. I know a couple of Giants fans and I constantly see them vent their frustration.

I'm still crossing my fingers for Tashaun Gipson, I know it's annoying hearing me vent about how badly we need a FS but damn it we need one badly. It's been a painful start for Gipson heading to his contract year so his value hasn't been as high as he has anticipated. I feel that if we sign another CB it will still be a problem for us when covering deep and we can't take full advantage of Will Hill's talent at the box.

I like Jalen Ramsey but I don't want to be dependent on a player in the draft. If he's taken then we won't be able to solve our FS problems.

Haven't seen much of gibson but i hear hes good.If we were gonna throw money at someone I would love it to be Eric Weddle. Not sure how the talks are now but a couple months ago him and the chargers were in disputes over an extension and even trade suggestions were thrown around. Not sayin he'd be cheap but he would be the veteran fs we would need. Not too old and we would know exactly what we're getting. Also if we do get a top 10 pick if we could snatch up a top corner like hargreaves that would be great.

    Cb1-Smith

    Cb2-Hargreaves

    SS-Hill

    FS-Weddle.

    Now we'd be in business.

  14. Nah. We're not as bad as the record indicates. Here we out. If all of our losses have been by what, 5 points or less it means we've been in every game. You can mask an issue or two, meaning we'll probably neglect WR again draft wise. But I think with a Bosa caliber player(yes, you think he's overrated. He is. But he's still better than all of the pass rushers this year) and if you add even a Trumaine Johnson, then you vastly improve the defense by that alone.

We don't look as awful as everyone makes it seem. we've been in every game. Two against undefeated teams. We're not good, but we're not awful.

You make good points, but with all of the resources invested in the front 7,i dont care how good the pass rushers are.Ozzie can't possibly neglect cb or wr again this year considering we can possibly have a top 10 pick.I think he should double dip for each position in 2016

  15. Many of you are running with the intention of this thread in the wrong direction, my point is that Harbs isn't a great football mind but he is a very good team manager and I don't mean that as a back handed compliment, it's a valuable skill set as a HC. I just personally feel like he was the glue keeping everything together (which is very important) but not an active orchestrator behind that SB like a Bill Belichick or Sean Payton.

I also said I'm not opposed to Harbs staying, I just see a chance for both sides to get a fresh start because the train is off the tracks.

I think a better fit wold be someone like Josh McDaniels from NE, say what you wnat about his first gig in Denver but the guy has a tremendous mind for the game and i think he's grown as a coach a lot since then. That's the type of guy who will get hands on with the scheme, that's the type of guy who can help this team evolve with the times. I like Harbs, don't mind him staying at all, just see that the grass might be greener on the other side for both parties if he were to get offered USC.

I get what your saying.I agree.I've always said that I respect John but i dont always trust him.Things such as clock management down the stretch, many of the challenges he makes and his 4th down decisions instead of taking points knowing your team needs them. Also his passive attitudes in press conferences such as downplaying something when its clearly wrong or making adjustments when his assistants clearly aren't getting it done(Cam,Mattison,Pees,Trestman).Hes a great coach and I'm glad to have him here, plus his job is safe but I don't think hes really that good of a football mind.More of a players type of coach.

  16. This team hasn't given me a reason to believe in anything. I'd love for them to finish out the year 10-0, and I guess it could happen, just like I COULD win the lottery. Theoretically anything is possible but realistically that isn't going to happen.

Same here.I'll root for them until there mathmatically done but I'm not so much of a fan that I cant see the truth. This team just isn't very good and the injuries that keep piling cripple us every week. Not to mention the coaching staff gives us nothing to believe in with their schemes and actions.
