Not sure where everyone is getting that Claiborne is a shut down corner? The guy has been a massive injury risk and major disappointment down in Dallas.

Yes, he would be a upgrade over what we currently have. But him and Jimmy together are just ticking time bombs. We still need more than him to beat these QB/WR stacked teams.

Would love to see the response when Jimmy and Claiborne both miss a 3 game stretch, playing patty cake on the sideline.  I don't know where everyone is getting this idea that Claiborne is this savior at CB either.  A little confusing considering he's just started showing potential, was considered a bust by most fans and can't even stay healthy.  That's exactly what we need in this secondary is another unreliable cb.

I am concerned that an already mediocre offense has lost 4 players, 3 of which were very good players that made us not awful.  We've only added 1 in Danny Woodhead.  We're tight on the cap, the FA market is drying up, and I doubt we'll be able to solve everything in the draft.  I'm really hoping there's some intel that some cuts are about to happen elsewhere around the league.

I think part of it is the FA believes a healthy Flacco will help the offense operate better.  He did start playing better later in the season and that might have them confident.  Who the hell knows, though.  Maybe a plan for the draft or considering a trade.  If Camp and Perriman can stay healthy, them and Wallace don't look that bad with the TE group.  The most important thing is trying to get an OL unit together that will actually hold up.

And if the intent is to let the defense carry this team, they better CB early.  They have shown they can somewhat succeed without a pass rush, but when Jimmy goes down, it's open season.

Premature move. This better be followed by both mo Claiborne and mangold, or at the very least re-sign doom or Webb on the cheap on top of mangold

My guess would be Claiborne, but agree the move is premature, unless they believe someone on the roster will provide about what did.  Shouldn't be that hard.  Don't mind an OL rebuild to be honest.  Was just saying how when Yanda's gone, it was basically going to need to be done anyway.  Better to get the project started now.

Weddle's athleticism is declining but several things about his game don't really age. I could honestly see him having two more high level years before his game declines because of his instincts and football iq. It's why I was happy with the move.

I agree.  Not much to add.... yup

That was also the game that Weddle intercepted Brady's pass in the end zone, preventing a touchdown, which happened a few plays after he sacked Brady as well.  Let's not forget the positive plays.

Happy to be quoted for your first post.  Trust me, I love the move, but even when he was signed I questioned how much time they really thought they would get out of him.  I just felt like being a jack a when I posted that.  My only problem with him is how old he is at this point.

Every year we do not make the playoffs is a rebuilding year. Bad contracts, cap hell, bad high round pivks up to last year, has gotten us into trouble.

I like the fact that we are bringing free agents like Weddle who have football brains along with talent.

We should be looking for intelligent players on every level of our team.

I would like to see a top pass rush prospect, a top center, a top cb, and a top wr to boost this team over the hump.

I think with Zuttah getting a probowl nod as 5th in a field of 5, getting pancaked and pushed around during the reg season, gives a false sense of security.

A top Center will make this team go both in the running game, and passing game. Alex Lewis will most likely go to Rt, a guard pickup would help too.

We're actually starting to get that back.  When the defense was it's best, there were key cogs at each level, from DL, up to the secondary.  Now we have Williams, Cj, Jimmy(when healthy) and Weddle.  As for C, that's one spot I don't mind spending money on a vet.  It doesn't seem like Joe is given the any of the protection responsibility and we need a smart vet to take command of that.

BTW Williams cap hit for this season is only 6 mil which is not to bad.
It will go up to 11 mil next season.

After that season if he plays poorly he can be cut post june saving almost 10 mil in cap space with only 2.5 mil in dead money for the next seasons.

1 season at 6 mil then 1 at 11 before he can become a cut casualty.

that people actually cry about this is beyond me...

Didn't realize that.  Good job, Ozzie.

    BOARD CLOSURE DATE CHANGE

Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback on this thread. We wanted to ensure we provided ample notice to the community of the shutdown and originally felt that 3+ weeks was suitable. Also, with the NFL calendar now spanning 12 months, we realize that there is no "best" time to sunset the boards. However, with the amount of chatter that occurs during the free agency period and draft, we understand that March 31 may not be the ideal time to close the discussion.

With that in mind, we have decided to leave the message boards up and running through the draft. The new shutdown day will be Friday, May 5 -- one week following the NFL Draft. We realize that many will still be upset that the board is closing, but we hope this provides members an opportunity to continue the ongoing dialogue during this busy time of year.

Much appreciated.  Gotta be able to vent about how bad Ozzie's going to ruin the draft.

    You leave Graham alone

I agree with adding younger players, however we only have 7 picks in this upcoming draft.

I would assume we go CB with the first pick.

because objectively good depth is overrated, right?

He was moved to safety and isn't going to be the same player he was when he left.  If we're going to get depth, go younger.  And if we're going go with older players wait till camp cuts... But it is so late in FA, so why not just jump on the first pieces you see, right?

Does it cost a lot of money or something to keep a message board? Lot of people don't use social media. Don't understand why anybody wants their lifestory out in public. Lots of people here that I respect their opinion. Now I might never hear from them again.

Don't worry.  I'll give you my number so we can keep in touch.

Are the Bengals rebuilding? I mean sheesh they've had a rough Free Agency losing two starters both of whom are top three at their respective positions. Jeez I mean you can't do worse.

    My how they've fallen off.

Williams has been a consistent starter and has rarely been injured though. I know people are all GAGA over Pierce like I am I want him to succeed, but he is an undrafted player and has had limited action. Alex Lewis I know the team said they want him at LG but I wouldn't be surprised after this move if they shift him to RT because he is the mauler they keep talking about. It isn't hard to replace a LG. But Brandon Williams does a lot of things people don't realize like open up lanes for others to get sacks. He doesn't have the numbers for sacks but he does a lot of unnoticed things.

I hate how much he got paid but I love him staying in Baltimore. Thats one less piece to replace on the defense that was rated #1 most the year last year.

The injury part is what has somewhat sold me on Williams.  Been healthy his whole time here and one of the most consistent players.  He deserves the money, no doubt, but as other have said, I would prefer to invest it elsewhere.

Kind of off topic, but people forget how much loyalty Webb has to the organization.  He's been the ultimate team player in his time here, always willing to make whatever move best helps the team.  If his time is coming to an end, he'll surely be missed.

I remember.  I also think that's why he hasn't been cut yet.  They really seem to like him and like they want to keep him on board.  Sad he never got to reach his full potential cause Webb was a beast at CB before the injuries.   If our corners could stay healthy, there's a case to be made we could have a top 3 cb unit with Young in the mix.

williams is among the best at NT.

also who said we picked williams over wagner?
seems to me williams was the only guy left so we went all in him.

if williams signed first somewhere else , we probably would have gone all in on wagner.
