  1. Teams are racking up trophies against the Knicks.  WHO THE HELL IS MIKE SCOTT?  Whoever he is, he scored his career high against us, carrying on the tradition of bums getting career highs against our cotton candy "defense".  With no draft picks, I can't even look forward to the draft.

That's a dumb idea since Rice is a veteran, wouldn't save money and would only cost us (so you'd suggest cutting two more players for a total of three just to mitigate the cap hit of one? Glad you aren't a GM), and would cost us a player who was generally really great.

First, never said I would, I said think about it.  It's not worth it cause we're now a down player that would need to be addressed through draft of FA and the amount it would take to do it.  I'm opposed to it, this year at least.  Also, I think McClain and Koch are potential casualties anyway, due to cutting them saves more money than it costs and a punter can be replaced quite easily.  My only point was, the team is able to take the hit now and would possibly improve the cap for later years.

We'd have $5.5 since you subtract dead money by cap hit, but it still means we'd be paying for a player not on our team.

But think of the savings down the line.  If you think about it, if he's cut, McClain and Koch, doesn't that put us about right were the team thought they would be anyway cap space wise, before the cap was pushed back?

  4. With the money resign Monroe and try to sign Smith.  If you sign Smith cut McClain.  Depending on how much cap is left, franchise Pitta if at the TE rate.  I personally feel cap space is more valuable than draft picks in certain situations, this is one.  I'd draft a TE and move up from the 2nd to get a receiver.  If a deal is worked out for Pitta, cool, if not try to trade him.  My goal as a GM would be to reach fair contracts with players if I'm able while not over paying.  If Monroe and Pitta both cost too much, accept it and move on.

  5. that's brilliant

(really. usually when I say that, it is tongue in cheek lol)

In theory yes, but the franchise tag only qualifies you as a WR.  So if he holds out, he's getting top WR money, regardless of where he was on the field at the position.  That gives him all the leverage.  If the team tries to pay him as a a slot wr, he's getting years worth of slot money with the tag.

  6. No one talks about Haloti making a whopping $14 mil. total during his first 5 seasons while playing at an all pro level. Next year is the payday of his vet deal and it all averages out to a very reasonable annual amount.

Exactly.  I'll put like this as well, if Flacco decides he doesn't want to renegotiate, that's on the team.  Football careers are to short to sacrifice your earning potential for a team that most likely doesn't care what happens when you're off the team.  I feel he will be inclined to, cause if he does I'm pretty sure the money is pushed up front.  You're expected to honor your contract, but when the team changes their mind, they are able to do what they want as far as cutting or redoing the deal.

  7. Haloti ngata has some nerve. He could really try to compromise. Hes a selfish so and so who isnt a true raven. In 2010 he was my fav player. Now i actualy wish he wasnt on our team anymore. Hes average. Hes more about money then helping the team. I laugh at the ad on this site with him smiling and the caption " get your money for nothing" ironic lol

The team gave him that deal.  Football is a business.  He has his ring, some All Pro selections and a few pro bowls.  Time to secure your financial future.  He played out his rookie contract when was outperforming it.  Now he's under performing and he should give back, why?  I'm just hoping we don't overpay Dennis.  If he wants to hold out, let him get his money elsewhere.  He's older and deserves his first pay day, so I'm not mad.  As far as I'm concerned, Monroe is more important.  Lock him up to have some stability on the o-line.  If Joe cries about it, ask him if he'd rather have his friend or decent protection.  Use the pick on a TE and trade up from the 2nd pick for another WR.  I think this is the draft where the team should be aggressive to fix our anemic offense.  Too many weapons to not try and build up for cheap.

  8. University of Miami's Patrick O'Donnell... 6.4 230... Averages 47.1 yards per punt. Finished his collegiate season with 9 straight games with 52+ypa punts...

Could bring him in undrafted and go from there. I would like us to use the same approach we did finding Justin Tucker.

The only problem I have with this is the holding situation, which seems small, but makes a big difference.  Would like to see this approach made though.  If McClain and Koch are cut, doesn't that save about 3-3.5 million(I think we should keep Leach)?

  9. Nice of Oz to get it done :)

My guess to contract would be:

    5 years

    10 million bonus

Year 1: Base 1 mil Cap number 3 mil ( Saving 5,7 mil agaisnt the cap this year)

    Year 2: B 2 mil Cap 4 mil

    Year 3: B 3,5 mil Cap 5,5 mil

Year 4: B 5 mil Cap 7 mil (A release her would save 1 mil against cap)

Year 5: B 5 mil Cap 7 mil (A release her 3 mil against cap)

That would be a total deal of 26,5 millions for 5 years

Way too long if you ask me.  Ideal contract to me is 3 years.

  10. This makes me very happy. As Suggs is one of my all time favorite Ravens, I'm very happy to see him probably retire a Raven.

Now just gotta lock up Monroe and Pitta!

    Agree x10

Preston was right by the way to all who doubted him.

  11. I think Monroe will be perfect for Kubiaks system.  Retaining him keeps stability on the line.  As far as I'm concerned, he's more important to the team than Pitta.  He affects the run and pass game.  He needs to be the #1 priority.  Something Preston said makes sense.  The faster the Suggs situation is settled, we should have a clearer idea of what's happening with the other pieces.

  12. I really can't see a situation where we don't re sign Monroe. We already gave up 2 picks for him and if we use our 1st rounder on another LT, that's 3 of our top 5 picks on 1 player. There's no way Ozzie would let that happen when we have the franchise tag. We will make room for it if we have to, but Monroe will defiantly be a Raven next year.

Too much money from another team.  This is the most concerning move.  If he can't be re-signed at a reasonable cost this team's in trouble.  Might also force our hand with Suggs' contract as well if something isn't worked out soon.  I think it would be in the teams best interest to try and get something done before FA starts, if possible.

  13. Might be stupid, but what about trying to get Blackmon to a cheap contract?  I forgot all about him, but he was playing well before the suspension.  I can't really fault him.  The Jaguars are brown water trash.  Just wondering what people would be thinking about that.

Anyway, Mathews and Evans are the guys I'm hoping we could bring in depending on the moves made.  I honestly hope we stay away from the FA wr pool and just draft our guys and try to groom them with the new coach.  I doubt we are able to get Watkins, unless Ozzie is feeling ballsy this draft and decides to get real aggressive, which I hope he does.  I want a big bodied, strong wr who will go up for the ball, but we'll see what happens.

  14. So what did we learn

    - Peyton still chokes; post-season Peyton is a different guy than his regular season counterpart. Can't throw the ball past 10 yards which is a little bit of a disadvantage when you're trailing by 35. Loves to - HAS to - play small-ball.

    - Denver is soft. Or is Seattle just that beastly? Seattle's defense put a whipping on every Broncos receiver that caught a pass. The Broncos didn't want to play past the first quarter. Kam Chancellor was awesome.

    - Glad they gave the MVP to one of the deserving defenders.

    - Brett Favre has been living in a shed in the woods for the past year - LINK - it's the only explanation for that mess

Good ol reliable Playoff Peyton.  Even the SB he won, people question if he deserved the SB MVP.  Let's be very clear about how bad that Bears offense was.  Someone name me 3 starters on that offense and I'll let you use Rex Grossman as 1.

I said this somewhere else, but I was so happy to see those bs receiver screens shut down, as well as those cheap pick routes.  I've said all season, if you get physical with the Broncos receivers, minus D Thomas, they will begin to crumble and even he looked a little phased around the 2nd-3rd quarter.  Seattle set the tone EARLY.

Was happy the right person got MVP.  It would've been a robbery if someone on the defense didn't get it.  He obviously deserved it and the real MVP award should be given to the actual most valuable player.  Not the just the player with the best stats.

Brett Favre looks like him and Ed Reed go collecting cans and asking for spare change in the off season.

  15. Statue?  I love Suggs, he's the last remaining link to some dirty defenses and he's the only guy who played with both Lewis and Reed in their primes left in the league but unless Suggs goes on a tear and leads the team to another Super Bowl, virtually single handedly defensively, he's not getting a statue.

He also needs to not be fat for the entire season next year.

In Suggs' defense, he waited til mid season to get fat.
