Will you two stop hijacking this thread with your back and fourth childish posts? Game is over, Steelers fan will always side with the Steelers no matter what. Ravens fan will side with the Ravens, it's a pointless argument that is going nowhere.
I guess it bothered me that a fan of another team would visit our site and lecture us on objectivity- that's all. No big deal. Anyway, the ballgames were over yesterday, so I hardly think anything's been hijacked. Unless you have something else to add, that is...
Do feel Suggs and Steve Smith are dirty players?
A non-answer. About what I expected.
Well, yes, there is judgment involved in the call. Just like in nearly every call.
Rule 12, Section 2, Article 8 (Unnecessary roughness) in the NFL rulebook
Note: The provisions of section (f) do not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or noncrown parts of the helmet in the course of a conventional tackle on an opponent.
Hard to posit "incidental contact" when you lead with your helmet, don't you think?
I wasn't assigning anything. It was a challenge. Just thought, if you are actually interested in facts not perception, emotion and sports hate, the information is available for a ten second google search. If not, hey, stand there on the grassy knoll and hold up signs that say, "9-11 was an inside job"...whatever works for you. But I still say the whine, "They (refs, league, kardashians, whoever) help your team and hurt mine" is the silliest whine in all of sports fandom.
Do you feel that Harrison and Ward are/were dirty players?
ya, turns out i was vindicated...shazier hit a runner who lowered his own head too, not a defenseless receiver.
Baloney- it's a judgement call, and you'll see it called just as often as not. Are you going to "challenge" me to find an example, or will you admit that there are plenty of instances where a play very much like that one has resulted in a flag?
The rule book is online. Its not my opinion.
What was that about the rule book, again?
Depends on whether they 1) Ever look at the actual stats, 2) After the heat of a tough game are able to step back and see it without emotion, 3) Aren't sucked into the completely and totally ridiculous idea that the NFL and Refs intentionally or unintentionally favor a particular team. There is just zero logical reason for it. I challenge you to pull up a list of penalties agains all NFL teams over the last decade. You will find that the facts show the Steelers are penalized at pretty much the same rate as every other NFL team. Some years up, some years down, but zero evidence of a pattern of favoritism. Honestly, this is the silliest claim fans of any fan base make...bar none.
Well, I'm way to old to get assigned homework, by anyone, but I will say this- the perception is there, and not just among many Ravens fans. Why? I know the answer you're going to give...
I don't like these actors that they get to play col. Sanders
That's Norm MacDonald- normally a very, very funny man. I think the joke is that he's not much of a Colonel Sanders impersonator, and I'd agree with that assessment.
I think I was wrong about the Shazier hit. So i will own that. But the "objective" statement was about the flags for the whole game. Here are the penalty totals: Steelers 10 for 142 yards....Bengals 8 for 79. So before those last two flags in the final 18 seconds it was 6 for 49. Most of the flags were on the Steelers. Without penalties, the Bengals would never have scored that first TD and gotten back in the game. Without an inadvertent whistle, Shazier scores a TD. So, in spite of your irony radar....I will stand by the "objective observers " statement. The refs DID NOT remotely favor the Steelers in that game. And they did not hand them the game. The Bengals had numerous opportunities to win that thing.
Do you really think you're going to convince Ravens fans that the Steelers haven't, on balance, gotten the calls over the years? Good luck with that...
You need to understand the context. Brown was knocked out cold for a couple seconds. So obviously, fear for the players long term health were in question.
We see multiple times a year when a player has to get taken out on a stretcher and literally every single player and coach as well as personnel are on the field of play.
What would you like them to do in those situations? Give both team 1000 yards in penalties?
Hey, thanks for explaining it to me- I thought AB was just checking his eyelids for pinholes. I get it, now- although I don't recall #84 being placed on a stretcher. Anyway, Porter's concern seemed to take a back seat to starting trouble, don't you think? And I'll bet the NFL agrees with me when it comes time to decide whether or not to fine him...
Didn't record the game and would have to view the tape, but once again there was fear for Antonio Browns condition. It's not unusual for coaches to run out in those circumstances.
The rules say it's not legal for anyone other than medical personnel to be on the field (besides players, of course). Now, I think the refs will give the HC leeway, but the linebackers coach has no business being out there.
Even if Brown "passes" no way will he be 100%.
I didn't say he'd be 100%- I said I believe it's 100% certain that he'll play. Get the difference?
What are the chances that AB passes the concussion protocol for next week? I'd say 100%. He'd have to be in a coma for the league to keep him out, where as Manziel had a headache for a day and he couldn't play against the Steelers in what was a big game. I'm not saying the Browns would've won but with Austin Davis well, you know...
What shove? You mean when Jones is talking to him trying to plead his case? But it was really the flag before that if your going to call that a penalty you have to call the hit earlier on Bernard as well and they didn't.
I mean the Hill fumble was huge and the Bengals could have lost not hat alone, but don't just give the Steelers two bogus penalties and let them march down he field for an easy chip shot. Let them matriculate down the field on their own or settle for a 50+ field goal. This ending just left a bad taste in my mouth.
Hill is the goat and 55's an idiot. The pacman flag was bs- if what he did was flag worthy then Joey Porter's antics should have drawn yellow, too. Of course, it didn't, continuing years and years of the Steelers getting away with murder.
Actually, since he lead with the crown of his helmet, the Steelers hit should have been flagged regardless of whether or not the receiver established himself as a runner.
Absolutely.
Read the NFL rule book. Commentators were right about both. Whether you like the rule or not, it was properly enforced. And there is no way an objective observer can say that the flags were weighted for Pittsburgh. Burfict bought and paid of the loss and Lews is responsible for allowing the climate.
Yeah, there's no way that anyone who disagrees with you is being "objective".
As much as I despise the Steelers , the Cincy gang are a bunch of punks .
At least Tomlin's teams have discipline . I could not see what happened at the end
Of the game with two personal fouls happening to the Steelers or our team .
Tomlin's teams know how to start trouble, and they know the refs will flag the player who retaliates. Even when they see the original offense...
Agreed. Like Biscotti said at State of Ravens, rules are too strict, can't put it all on refs... Thank the movement of softness going on in this country
Well, the refs pocketed their flags when Mitchell launched a helmet-to-helmet shot on Eifert. Guess they were just going old school for one play.
How much you wanna bet that Brown passes the concussion protocol? He will- you can bank on it.
Refs stunk this game.
Always a refereeing controversy in Steelers games. And it's always in their favor. Always.
Another Steeler win courtesy of the refs. Completely unprofessional cheerleading from Nance and Simms. Makes me sick.
Bengals run it first down every time. Why? Do they want to win?
Refs are ridiculous , penalty for flapping arms?
Cam Thomas will be ruled down though
You don't think it was ridiculous that they couldn't see that a 350-lb man was down?
You have to laugh when Simms and Nance disregard the Steelers post-whistle shenanagins and proclaim "the league has warned both parties about that kind of behavior". As if Pittsburgh isn't coached to be chippy, especially after any big play that doesn't go their way...

No flag, of course. I know I'll get some flak for this but it sometimes seems like it's open season on Ravens...
