To me just watching the team over the years I feel like Pees is a terrific coach... If given all the pieces. It is when injuries happen to those players, even just one, that makes the defense collapse. It must be a complicated system or something, sometimes I feel like a drop off from one player to another shouldn't be as big as it is. For instance how the defense looks without Jimmy Smith compared to with Jimmy Smith. A defense shouldn't go from #1 to #27 with one missing player.

His defense is somewhat similar to Rex' defense when he was with the Jets; Rex builds his defense around Revis, so as soon as Revis left, his defense collapsed.

I just hope Tavon will take over Jimmy's spot .....

Yeah, I really wish this wasn't on Christmas day. The rest of my family already doesn't understand why I turn into a basket case on game day ... especially one as big as this ... but on Christmas? Ugh ... I'm really going to have to keep my emotions in check.

tough to keep it in check during the Ravens game day....

BTW, wish you all have a happy holiday.....

Every playoff team is flawed, we just have a front row seat to the flaws the Ravens have. Yes the Ravens are a playoff ready team because they play ugly, physical rind it out games and that's usually what Playoff football looks like. Is this team Super Bowl ready? That's another story.

However if you look at all 9 teams who could possibly be in the playoffs, who's playing lights out? Win the next 2 games which are both winnable and you possibly have the Dolphins coming back to M&T Bank. Not saying that game will turn out the same as before but do they really strike fear in anyone? Then you're looking at a Divisional Playoff game in perfect weather conditions in Oakland vs a young team playing in their first playoff game in 14 years. Honestly other than having a really good oline what about the Raiders strikes fear? Win that game and you're right back in Foxboro for the AFCCG game or even better somebody knocks them off and that game is played in Baltimore.

What's the likelihood of all this happening? Who knows, the point is the Ravens are capable of being both the Steelers and Bengals to win the Division and come playoff time they are good enough to beat any team they'll face in the wildcard and the divisional round. I think the only question for this team is will they play well enough to beat those teams and can they play well enough in Foxboro to win.

Love all the scenario above; if we show up and beat Pitts and Bengals, we can beat anybody!

Wonder what coordinator will get hot, go to one of these bad teams and get fired by 2020. Seriously, it amazes me how these coordinators jump at the chance to become a Head Coach with zero regard to the situation. They put themselves with a bad team and never give themselves a chance to succeed. You know why Josh McDaniels has stayed in NE? He's smart enough to know that it's better to stay where you are rather take a Head Coaching position with a bad team. Coordinators should learn from McDaniels' patience at not jumping at every opportunity.

    Totally agree with this.....

Good coach should stay away from the Jaguars or 49ers or Rams....

  5. may be Joe respected Steve's speed so much so it looked like it was overthrown....

It took couple seasons for Joe to truly utilize Boldin at fullest; Joe realized that if there's one on one with Boldin, just throw back shoulder or jump ball and he'll get it.

For Steve, I think he ran some of crisp routes in the league so Joe and Steve need to get on the same page as well as getting timing down.

    Chemistry Chemistry Chemistry.....

  6. I felt sorry for Jimmy; didn't you guys see how frustrated Jimmy was when he hurt on the play at goal line?

Nobody felt as bad as Jimmy cuz he knows his team need him...

Stop bashing on Jimmy for injury prone cuz most of his injury is due to the bad luck.....

I hope bad luck will leave him alone from now on....

PS: if Jimmy was healthy all his career, he should be top 5 cb, seriously...

This exactly what I keep saying when I see that quote. That team was lightning in a bottle and nothing more. I mean honestly Birk was the biggest loss of anyone who left after that season and he was retiring anyway.  Other than Boldin every single one of the non retiring players that left was replaceable. Hell, we backed into to finding a better safety in Ihedigbo.

    _______________________________________

Every single player was replacable??? ...lol..... We still are looking to replace the leadership lost, it's taken 3 seasons to get competent play at the safety positions, o line has been a recurring problem. I'll say it again COACHING IS THE RAVENS WEAKEST LINK and will continue to be with this regime. What's the record after all those replacable guys left???? Why the constant turnover of offensive coordinator??? Coach can't implement his own offense so he's dependent on his assistants so even if we get a good one were back at square one when they leave.

That's why majority of HCs are great defensive or offensive mind...

John is great at managing team and relying truly on his assistants but good assistant will get poked away, leaving him no one to depend on.

If Kubiak and Pagano stayed with the Ravens, we will have the best franchise in NFL; however, great coaches will leave for HC.....

Good point on coaching is sort of our weak link, chipping in with few terrible FO decisions.....

The correct answer is neither but its academic at this point. Four of the main reasons we lost the NE game are: #1) Lack of dependable receivers, #2) Lack of a dependable punt returner, #3) Lack of an adequate secondary & #4) Stupid penalties stalling drives & killing momentum.

Re #1, how many passes were dropped? If you count the interception Joe threw, usually dependable Mike Wallace had two drops, incl. the pass that was intercepted. Perriman dropped one and Waller let a perfect pass go thru his hands in the endzone. BTW, whoever called the play to go right back to him on the next play deserves a game ball. Re #2, Hester has had (past tense) a great career. Its now over and the FO did the right thing IMO by releasing him. He had a great opportunity here and blew it. Re #3, our secondary was dissected for 400 yards, including another keystone cops 79 yard pass play. It could be said that it might have been different if Jimmy had not been hurt but the secondary didn't get the job done. Re #4, what else can you say? Stupid is as stupid does. So, in a nutshell, the first three reasons we lost are attributed to the same set of problems the FO did not fix following the 2012 season. We let Boldin go, we let JJ go and we did not groom a  replacement for Ed Reed. Boldin is still performing at a high level on a 9-4 team with no more talent than ours, Hester has looked like a Joker and Matt Elam is a joke. To be fair, much of the blame should be on the FO for #1, #2 & #3. The blame for the stupid penalties belongs with the coaching staff IMO. Its been a continuing problem that continues to hurt the team in critical situations. Most of the dumb penalties are the result of improper technique or lack of discipline, both of which can be resolved by good coaching. Notwithstanding the failure of the FO to resolve Items 1 thru 3 and in spite of Item #4, this roster is clearly a group of under-achievers who should have won at least four of the six games we lost. So,why didn't we? Is it the QB? Well, in successive games, Joe has now set franchise records for throwing for over 350 yards and 4 TDs and against NE completing 37 passes. BUT, he's an under-achiever too. In a different system, he'd have 4,000 yards every year. No, the main reason we aren't winning consistently is #5) COACHING and that starts with the head coach. On one point, Pollard was right. Following the SB run and ensuing retirements, free agency moves and cuts, John was forced to coach. The main reason we lost the NE game was, in a word, coaching. It was the biggest difference maker. Jon Gruden even alluded to the "Patriot Way" and he'd be right. Sorry, Harbs!

BTW, I assume you meant to say in your quote ... or this roster isn't good enough to win.

I'm still upset about this move.......terrible move by Ozzie.....he should have destroyed his desk for making that call....

Our offense never gets better consistently except when Kubiak was here.........

If KO is here, Stanley isn't. We offered KO a contract to play LT for us, not LG. Can never get a reasonable ROI on paying a LG $12M a year. The reason why the Raiders can afford to do that NOW is because Derek Carr, Amari Cooper and Khalil Mack have cap hits totaling $11M COMBINED in 2016, and will likely continue that trend into 2017 as well. When all three of those players get gigantic paydays (and they will), guess where they will come looking first to cut? The Guard who's making $10M+ a year. They'll dump him or move him to LT, because they won't be able to justify that price tag anymore.

I'll give the Raiders credit... they were smart with his contract. They didn't spread out his bonus after the lifetime of the deal... they just paid it and took the cap hit. He costs $13.2M against the cap in 2016 and 2017, which is smart, because Cooper, Mack and Carr are likely still on rookie deals during that time.

After that, he has no guaranteed money left, and the dead money is minimal.

Such are the perks of a team who spent the last decade drafting in the top half of the draft because they never won. We can be one of those teams if you'd like to be... all you gotta do is lose for a decade.

This is where the o so special "patience" that fans show on here makes these kinds of posts hypocritical.

I can say one thing for certain... your understanding of the salary cap is not nearly as good as you think it is...

    We are so spoiled......

  10. Win or lose; I really do enjoy taking on the Pas on MNF, especially we are healthy for once at the end of the year...

This is like preview of AFC championship game right there...

We have to start fast on offense and defense need to get on Brady's skin asap; if those are done, we will win convincingly.....

I think this is going to be the best MNF ever for me.......especially we suffer plague of injures last year and we are coming back healthy and ready to compete at one of the most important games of the season.....

    I can't wait MNF!!!

I think what we're seeing is a run game that's set up by the pass game and most fans don't seem to realize it. As you mentioned the Ravens don't have a line up and physically beat you 30-40 times per game rushing attack. That's just not what you'll get out of this unit and it shouldn't be that way honestly. I never, even when Forsett was here (never saw him making the team) thought of this team as run first in 2016. When talking about all the ways the Ravens could beat teams the run game was probably last. When a few people that hated the Stanley pick pointed out how he doesn't get much push in the run game, my response was he'll just have to seal his guy off and get to the 2nd level because the Ravens won't be leaning on the run much this year. The appeal of the running game and the RBs to me is getting them out in space. I've always thought this offense was going to be a spread type offense that would take advantage of light box fronts to have a successful running game. Much like the Pats and Packers. Run when needed but you aren't gonna really have strong running games each week.

As I've mentioned before, the Ravens have had 5 100 yard games in the 7 games Marty has coached and people aren't happy with that. The reason imo is because people are used to the Ravens being run first and you have the misconception that if Flacco throws more than 40 times the offense is doomed. Well even though some numbers have proven that to be true, the main thing to is that when the oline is built to protect Flacco 35-40 times a game the Ravens are much better equipped to win. When Harbs came out this past offseason that the Ravens would use a RB by committee this season, even with Forsett healthy, I smiled so big because I knew Harbs was finally getting out of that "Ravens Way" mode and finally excepting the fact that this offense is going to go as far a 5 will take them and because that's true you must build the offense around him, not the running game

I did re-watched the 2012 SB run and I see how much clean pocket Joe had; he was confident so much that he audibled out the run game to pass play for back shoulder throw to Boldin to get a crucial first; if we ran that play, we will be forced to punt and we would lead the game by 2pts instead of 5pts in last min of the game.  Clean pocket really boost QB's confidence that much......

The Pats are so good over such a long-span cuz they build a strong o-line....

I think we are heading to the right direction as John's envision.....

  12. Forsett's career is likely done at this point, but he has a great career and story to teach young kids about hard work pays off.  It certainly paid off when he was in Baltimore.  The guy is nothing but class and respect, on or off the field.  I wish him the best.

PS: I'd like the idea about him pathing himself into coaching career, but it's up to him........

One of my best friends is a pats fan. Always love this game.

Hes worried about this game. He said the Ravens are the one team he doesn't want to see in the playoffs bc our D, how Joe always shows up, and Harbs is the one coach who seems to hang with Belichick.

Its gonna take a perfect game from an execution standpoint. You cannot give Brady extra possessions.

If our OL plays this well next week I like our chances. Their D is not good and our D matches up about as well as any against their offense.

We need Joe to play like Wilson did against them and hold serve. If he can go score for score with Brady I like our D's chances to be the first one to come up with a stop or turnover.

off topic: you are a tennis player? cuz I am too....
