9 wins is much better than 8. It's not meaningless! With all the off season babble, we'll feel much better about that 9th win.
I agree. And if we beat the Bengals, that's ending on a relatively high note.
My take on the draft and or adding veterans. There are 2 important ingredients to a successful nfl player. Ability and speed seem to be top ranked by most teams but what good is ability if the football IQ is not there. Take Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, while they had ability they were football geniuses, always understanding the situation and how to capitalize on it. New England seems to always be selecting high football IQ guys. Tom Brady was picked 179th or so in the draft because they feared his physical abilities weren't there, but the IQ and drive trumped that. IQ translates into mistake free football and we know that the team that makes the fewest mistakes usually wins.
Great points.
Rex is NOT COMING BACK. Even if the Ravens wanted him back, he isn't coming back. Plus, he sucks. You say: "But he's aggressive!" Ya, and somehow all the teams he has coached SUCKED.
I would like to see Harbaugh go, but there's not many good candidates that can replace him. He got rid of players that bumped heads with him and it has hurt the team, I think that's why we see players leave us to go play for Pagano or Rex. He never calls out Flacco for the many mistakes he makes but any mistake made by anyone else they get called out for it
First off, the FO gets rid of players. Perhaps Harbaugh will have his say, but I'm not sure who it is that we got rid of solely because they bumped heads with Harbaugh, who would have otherwise been a great service to the team. Please don't say Boldin, because there was no indication that he and Harbaugh didn't get along. That IMO was purely an Ozzie move. Who else are you thinking of?
The enforcer of the secondary AKA the patriot killer. Does Bernard Pollard ring a bell? Does James Ihedigbo ring a bell to name a few?
Pollard was reported to be a real locker room pest - and also, as great a SS as he was, he was also a flag magnet. He gave the opponents a huge lot of free yardage.
And he wasn't all that "great." He was a good tackler, hard hitter and good vs the run, but he was AWFUL in coverage. The backfield we have now is actually awesome. Webb and Weddle had their first season together (Webb's first season at safety), and they were really good (aside from some mistakes). If we can shore up our CBs and get a pass rush, we'll be a great defense. Tavon is awesome, and is only going to get better. Canady showed promise; and if he comes back healthy, I think he's going to be good. Jimmy is not dependable, Wright sucks, and Powers is just middle of the pack.
If the Ravens part ways with Harbaugh it will take him under ten seconds to be a Head Coach again.
Correct. And take the franchise years to recover. I don't always agree with Harbs, and he definitely has weaknesses. But he's a darn good HC and leader. These fickle fans with their pitch forks don't look at the big picture. It's all reactionary and impulsive responses.
Let me first say I love Joe, but business is business.
The Ravens are projected to be $14,239,178 UNDER the cap and have to find a way to resign top priority guys like unrestricted free agents Brandon Williams, and Kyle Jusczyk. Plus, restricted free agents like Terrence West, Ricky Wagner, Ryan Jensen, Zachary Orr. Joe Flacco’s cap number for 2017 is $24.55M.
The Denver Broncos are projected to be $30,225,385 UNDER the cap for 2017 and have 38 players under contract. All of their main guys are locked up.
I wonder what type of trade could be made. Denver is in desperate need of a QB, and Joe knows their offense. Baltimore would get the cap relief it needs to retool the team.
I get what you're saying. But the big question is - who replaces Joe? If the Ravens do that, it's not a "retool", it's a complete rebuild. Joe ain't the greatest, but he's a franchise QB. Franchise QBs aren't easily replaced. It's not like they grow on trees.
I would like to see Harbaugh go, but there's not many good candidates that can replace him. He got rid of players that bumped heads with him and it has hurt the team, I think that's why we see players leave us to go play for Pagano or Rex. He never calls out Flacco for the many mistakes he makes but any mistake made by anyone else they get called out for it
And how well are Pagano and Rex doing right now?
Yep. Nothing else needs to be said.
We were a foot away from winning the AFC north after playing a team on a 5 game winning streak, in their place, with the top RB and top WR and one of the top QBs in the league. And you guys want to fire everyone and start over. I think you'd be happier in Cleveland, they start over every two years.
hahaha. great points.
What the Ravens really need is someone else to draft real talent (OMG Perriman?) and a Defensive Coordinator who attacks. Rex Ryan just got fired and Marvin Lewis may be next. Either of them would be miles above the awful shot callers on defense since 2003 when Lewis left for Cincinnati. Not sold on our current Offensive Coordinator either but it was an improvement.
Rex, for some reason, always lands a HC job with somebody. Only way he comes back is if he's desperate. Regarding Marvin Lewis, he'll definitely have many, many offers for HC...that's IF the Bengals fire him. He won't settle for a DC position.
You play to win each game, regardless. Didn't pan out the way we, or they, wanted, but I have no problem with Harbs' statements. They should give it all they have. They are paid to do so, and they are competitors. I guess we'll see Sunday, but I most certainly want us to beat the bung holes.
This game was everything it was promised to be, of course minus the preferential outcome for the Raven's Flock. This defense fell apart right after the Miami game and hasn't been able to put together a solid performance since, while the offense which was, let's say tepid to be nice, played extremely well ever since the miami game (minus new england but that was tough sledding to say the least). If only we could have pulled it together sooner and not dropped 4 in a row in october we would have run away with the division. Instead we're out. All I can say with any great optimism is that if the second half of the season is a sign of where this team is headed next season, we are bound for sunnier shores. But it stings to say the least. On the plus side I don't have to worry about missing the opening game of the playoffs on a count of my gf's Orthodox christmas celebrations. #silverlining
Regardless we are at worst 8-8 on the season with a 3 game improvement on the previous season, some nice momentum moving into the next season, and the possibility of a big bounceback year next year. There's a lot to be optimistic about for 2017.
I like it

Don't worry, John will look at the tape and see what went wrong, since he's the only one who doesn't see Pees called a lousy game in the 4th qtr. That's a major reason I love BB of the Pats, he knows when to cut these bums loose....Us? we know how to make a roster look nice on paper with all the retreads in the front and back of the house. Time to root for the Pats or Steelers! Two teams that have the drive to win!!!!
That is one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this thread...and that's saying a lot. Go ahead, follow the Pats and Steelers...hell, go for the Cowboys. We don't need lame "fans" like you anyways. GO RAVENS!
The 4th quarter was as bad as I have ever seen the Ravens play on defense in the last 10 years. You give up 240 yards on 21 plays and 3 TDs in one quarter. Who does that? That's over 12 yards pr play The Browns' defense would have put up more of a battle. Horrendous. Everyone wants to blame Flacco when we lose but we put up enough points against the Steelers today, against Oakland and against the Giants to have won all 3 of those games. Every time the defense faced a really good QB (Derek Carr, Brady, Big Ben, Dak Prescott) they got their lunch handed to them They played 8 games against teams with a winning record and went 2-6. I guess when you lose to the woeful Jets you don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
I've been on Flacco's butt all year, but this one cannot be blamed on him. He played smart, and mistake free. (Other than the last play of the game, which was a major head scratcher, but the odds of success were so low anyways, I didn't care all that much.) The defense was awful, and have been for 3 straight weeks. The offense, although missed opportunities, did put up 27 points. That should be plenty to win. (Props to our MLBs though.)
My heart goes out to Smith Sr. and Suggs. This might be their last year. It's disheartening that we're not able to send then off with the Super Bowl or at least a deep playoff run. I would like to see both of them next year though if the organization makes a serious effort to improve.
Same here. Especially for SSS. Suggs got a ring, so it isn't as bad. I think if they focus on the backfield and OLBs, we'll be golden. We have the LT and LG of the future. We have good, young TEs, and I think Perriman will breakout. We have a solid foundation, just got to continue to build on it.
Tough pill to swallow. Ravens played hard, but as the article stated, failed to capitalize on opportunities. But that kinda sums up their season. They played hard, but just were never consistent. So I didn't really expect that to change tonight. I hoped, but knew better. Regardless, Go Ravens...and congratulations to the Steelers. They earned it.
That is some awesome insight into this rivalry. I did not think I get could more pumped for this game, but now I most certainly am.

hahaha! Interesting you say that. If I consistently made decisions that adversely affected my company; guess what? I get fired. And I don't quite yet make $80k a year!! In the real world, we get called out for doing stupid things. But apparently these purple glasses wearing dorks don't understand that concept when it comes to Flacco and the Ravens. Fans, although irrational at times, can be the voices that say what needs to be said when nobody else will.
GO RAVENS! (Whether they suck or don't suck)
2 hours ago, FloridalovesRavens said:Every fan on here makes mistakes and just because Flacco threw a intercept doesn't make him a bone head. I'm sick and tired of these constant negative comments if the Ravens do something wrong. Every player in the league at one time or another makes mistakes. Even Brady believe it or not. Stop with the complaining. The game is over. Move on.
There he is! Captain of the Flacco Defender Squad. This team, the coaches and the QB have made a lot of ridiculously dumb decisions all year. We're fans. We can complain all we want. We invest time and money into our sports teams, so if Flacco is sucking, I'm going to say how bad he is sucking. If he's doing awesome, I'll praise him for doing awesome. That's what a message board is for, to express one's elation or frustration. If you want to be the ra ra cheerleader 24-7, fine; but get off of your hall monitor high horse, dude.
Give it a rest. Think positive. Flacco will do just fine.
We can always hope it turns out that way.
Flacco typically plays really well against the Steelers. All we need is him to be solid, and to avoid the dumb decisions he's made for much of the season.
Tired of all the lame excuses. Three people had the chance to get it right, Mornhinweg, Harbaugh, and Flacco. None of them had the brains of a goat on this play. How can anyone call a pass when you are on the 11 yard line of an opponent, and all you need is to run the clock and kick a field goal to cement the win? One of the stupidest calls I have ever seen and none of the three stooges gave it any thought. Just amazing.
Absolutely correct. Sometimes I wonder if they're in "Madden Mode", forgetting that there are real consequences to the decisions that are made. Flacco said something along the lines of: 'I get to throw a 3rd TD.' That's a bit of insight into the minds of these dopes.
There is a difference between being aggressive and dumb. Mary was dumb on that one. No question about it.
I know we all have varying opinions on what the Ravens' problems are and what it would take to fix them. Some think things are improving, others not so much. Some blame Harbaugh, some Flacco, some Mornhinweg, some Ozzie.
But the one thing we can all agree on is that we want the Ravens to beat Pittsburgh and Cincinnati and make a playoff run.
So, how about everyone post a big "Go Ravens! in solidarity, and then we can resume arguing after the game. Deal?
GO RAVENS!!!!
GO RAVENS!!!

Exactly. Trust me. I want Flacco to succeed. I want him to be awesome, and I want him to put up big numbers, including TDs, yards and wins. But he doesn't do that, and much can be blamed on his bad technique and bad decisions.
