  1. Great read from Kevin Byrne on how the hiring went down and Harbaugh's enormous role throughout the process.

    http://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/article-1/Byrne-Identity-John-Harbaugh-A-Non-Factor-Please/8d7701bc-66f3-4985-b920-6e9923fdb167

Great article. I love reading Kevin's colunms. It's like the FO version of 1 Winning Drive. A behind the scenes look at what's going on.

The Ravens are just too classes to do this but they should really ban some guys from having access to report on the team. It's rediculous some of the things that are reported and then most fans see these guys as "insiders" so they take their opinions as fact. There are honestly a handful of guys on this message board that i'd rather read an article by then a lot of the so called insiders

  2. Kelvin is a good prospect..but comon..andre Johnson is in that rare class.

I think  we work a lot of 2 tight end sets. My guess is we get a physical big blocker ala CJ in the draft to go along with pitta. We lost a lot of blocking upfield with the departure of boldin. We are a smashmouth team. Expect us to be bigger in every aspect.

I don't think anyone can say what we'll do a lot of right now. 2TE sets will be great for us, but so will 3WR set and other formations. CJ would be a good option, but so would a guy like Marcel Jensen or even Matt Frustenburg.

As for blocking from the WR position, a guy like Kelvin Benjamin would definitely provide that. I'm not sure we go that route, especially in the 1st round but I could definitely see him fitting into this offense and visions of a stud like Johnson. The directions we could go in the draft are endless imo. But I will say i'd prefer guys like Benjamin and Evans in this offense much more then our pervious offense, because this offense will allow them to work in space much more.

  3. Can they even do that?

There is a reason a team has to "grant" permission for you to interview one of their coaches. The Steelers had to grant permission for the Ravens to interview Kirby Wilson.

If Kubiak were to get hired as a HC, Dennison would still be under contract with us(depending on the length). The Ravens would have to grant Kubiak permission to speak with Dennison, but if we have plans on promoting him to OC, why would we even allow him to interview?

  4. I wonder when Joe and the other offensive players are going to start diving in to the new playbook, etc. I know the new CBA handcuffs the team to some extent, but I'm pretty sure the players can do whatever they want if it's voluntary...

Joe has already spoken to Kubes so I'm sure he's already been sent a Ipad playbook to at least dive into. If I'm not mistaking guys can come get their playbooks, but they can't have direct coaching of it.

  5. I think one thing that is going to be underrated with Dennison is he a Former O-line coach so he teaches how to make calls at the line for the center and the rest of the O-line and help them block which he will help Flacco with the right checks and audibles and O-line adjustments that he needs to make in game. i think hat one way Dennison can really help out flacco Greatly!

Yea that's a great point. I just made the comment of Joe having the ability to really own this offense. That's one of the ways I think this offense can be taken to the next level. I've always felt there was a disconnect with how we blocked things up front and our pasing game. That should clear up now.

  6. I just hope this doesn't mean there wont be any no huddle or sugar huddle in which Joe Flacco excels at or also mean less control of the offense by Flacco.

From what I get, Kubes wants to give his QB as much as he can handle. Even though it's a run heavy offense, the QB is what seperates it from being good to great. I don't know this for sure, but it seems that the QB has a lot off freedom and control in the offense based on if he can handle it. I've never been a fan of Schaub at all and always though the key to stopping that offense was to put the game in his hands. I think Kubes and Joe will work so well together. This year didn't do much to prove it, but Flacco is a much better decision maker then Schuab. As Kubes said Joe is a winner and I don't think he'll take the game out of his hands.

I honestly think Joe will take this offense to the next level. Joe Flacco has the ability to take this offense and make it his. That's a scary sight imo, but that's something that will have to show up on the field, not on paper.

  7. OR more likely, Kubiak takes Dennison as his OC. ;)

Or more likely the Ravens deny Kubiak permission to take Dennison and promote him to OC. I think there is a reason he'll be the QB coach. Also the Ravens are a smart organization, if Kubiak's name starts to buzz I don't think they'll just allow all the guys who help build this offense to just walk out the door. There will be far too many coaches who will be able to teach this system, QB, WR, TE and RB coaches will probably be added and allow will bring be able to teach and run this offense in some type of capacity. So we'll have a OC in place should Kubiak get a HC job next year.

Also remember Dennison was getting some buzz this time last year as a HC candidate, so even if he is promoted to OC next year, it might only be a one year thing. I think we'll see some young coaches added as position coaches or offensive assistants to learn this system from Kubiak.

  8. Juice is literally made to play in this scheme.  Its going to be interesting watching him motioning all over the place in and out of different positions.  We'll finally get to see what scouts saw in him at least.

What is this motioning thing you speak of? How does it work? Is it some type of new formation? Also how does a offensive player work out of different positions? I thought they were supposed to just stay in one spot and wait for the ball to be snapped.

  9. Great move and major props for the Ravens taking the necessary time to get it right. Kubes is well respected and what he's done for his players should have our plays very excited about the possibly. Didn't the Texans really want Marlon Brown last year? Just a random thought. Dennison said he spent lots of time in the QBs room in Houston and he knows exactly what Kubes wants from his QB, but it sounds like Kubes will be working directly with Joe and Dennison is kind of the assistant OC with the title of WR. I think Dennison might actually be like a OC in waiting. Sounds like he's Kubes right hand man and that's good when it comes to teaching the offense.

I loved the fact Harbs said we are building a Ravens offense. I think it's very important to have a consistent identity on offense as we've had for years on defense. Can't wait to see the type of talent Ozzie provides for Kubes. Even though Dennison is the QB, maybe he could give Gino some tips on how a guy like Meyers is able to thrive in the ZBS, being basically the same size. I think the entire oline should be better, Flacco and his WRs should be much better. This might be the perfect offense for Joe, but I'll save thaat for another thread.

I'm looking at the young talent on the offense and just how they could be used in this system and I think they all have to be excited. With the amount of screens and shallow crosses a stud like Johnson got to help him get easy passes, Torrey should be should be one of the happier players right now.

I'm going on and on because I'm just excited with this move.

  10. Who cares if this was Harbs decision or not, that Harbuddy stuff is just crazy. They are the BALTIMORE RAVENS not just Harbs' team. It's always been a collective effort with importance decisions. As long as the right decision is made, that's all that should matter and I think this is the right decision.

I'm more excited about what this means for Flacco, Torrey, Brown, Pitta and our other offensive talent being able thrive in this system. We had a opportunity to really take this offense to the next level with making the right decision and I think we have.

I'm interested in seeing how the coaching staff fills out. Honestly i'd probably only keep Wade and Jaun as TE and oline coaches, then the rest are up for grabs. Hoss had the backing of several players and i'd be interesting to see how players respond.

Just got the text so it's official. Now let's get to work.

  11. Doesn't he run the west coast offense? Neither are precise route runners and that's a huge piece of the west coast offense. Hoping for Marquise Lee

Yes he does but the WCO isn't the same as when Jerry Rice was in it. If you look at his system it's a mixature of a few different offense. I made that statement because a lot of that offense works off the play actions and gets guys in space. I think a guy like Kubes would do a much better job moving them around and getting them in space more then our pervious system. But Lee is one of my favorites. He reminds me of Derrick Mason a lot.

  12. In all fairness, Dennison was never a favorite. He was brought in with Kubiak, likely because Kubiak will only sign if Dennison is signed as well. Given the string interest in Shanahan, I doubt we don't see him here as well.

    The trifecta

I must say, all the people who want Juan Castillo gone confuse me a little. He wants the ZBS and all of these new coaches we should higher do, too. We'd have a coaching staff built totally around the ZBS and it would likely sure up any problems from last year.

Yea, I don't think Castillo is going anywhere. He's a good coach and combining with Kubes might be a really great thing for our oline. I will say this, I don't know what type of system O'brien will run in Houston, but if the undersized Chris Myers doesn't fit, we might be able to trade for him and that would be a huge upgrade to our oline. Plus a great mentor for Gino and Jensen. The ZBS was a good move for this team and I'm glad we're going the direction of Kubes and his system.

  13. My initial reaction is excitement but a little bit of me fears the theme of " too many chieftains, not enough Indians ".

Well if Kubiak brings his own staff it should be fine. I think it's great because despite what so many say about Harbs be a control freak, he actually wants to deligate control to his coaches and just be the guy that brings everything together as the HC. So Harbs should and probably will just step back and allow Kubes to do his thing.

  14. This is some game of thrones stuff right here

So would Hostler be Ned Stark? He seems to be the one who was in great position, but has had his head cut by this latest development.

But I think the decision of those guys makes the most sense. We've been incorparating things from that offense for years, now we get the whole thing.

  15. Great news. I love that system. We've already had success with Leach and Jacoby coming from the Texans, so let's really make them hurt with this Houston connection. This would be a great hire because all 3 of these guys are familir with the same system. This offense takes off and one of these guys will get a HC job next year, but we'll still have in house options to replace them.

I love it and once again the media was wrong. I don't know why I find so much pleasure in the media being wrong lately, but I do lol. At the Senior Bowl Hoss was supposed to be the front runner, then Shanahan and Hoss were the top 2 guys, now Kubes and Dennison look to be the top guys with "sealth" meeting. I've said before when sources said Hoss would be the guy, the Ravens hold secrets better then the CIA, we won't know anything until they want us to.

  16. Please tell me this is a joke. I mean come on, at some point enough is enough.

Yea, despite how poor this season turned out and the backlash that the Ravens are getting from some fans, they are still a top notch organization and they'll do what it takes to make the right decision. They are gonna do what they have to do to make sure there isn't a repeat of 2013. That is what seperates great organizations from just the good ones. We're not just gonna make a knee jerk decision to this past season.

Yea but it's not like these are the only two options. I could actually see the Ravens going to the college ranks to get a QB coach.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if the Dennison isn't just due diligence on the Ravens part. I mean, the Ravens run a classy organization, and what does it say to get down to two finalists with an announcement expected in a day, then give the job to a third hour candidate?

Yes, I know you always want to get the best person regardless, but it isn't like Dennison became available yesterday...if he was a serious contender they would have had him in, then had a second interview.

That being said, they might also be gauging his interest as a position coach, although with the Bears rumored to be interested in him, getting him and Shanahan might not be possible.

My bet is still on Shanahan, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Hostler bumped to QB coach.

This is what I think as well. It's just another stone they wanted to turn over. Maybe even to a point of loving the ideas that Kyle has with the system change, but now just getting other views from coaches who run the same type system. Like you said, Shanahan has had two interviews already and it's not like Dennison came from nowhere. I think we know the system we wanna go with now it's just making sure we got the right guy. Also reports only say that he's spoken with Harbs over the last few days, but it doesn't say official interview.

  17. I'm guessing they'll both be involved in the game planning.  The question is, would Harbaugh want his boy Hos minimized/eliminated in the process.

Please tell me this is a joke. I mean come on, at some point enough is enough.

Yeah, I'll admit that I have been really impatient with wanting a decision on our new OC this past week, but the more I think about it the more I like the idea that it is taking so long. It shows that Harbs, Ozzie and Steve are not leaving any stones un turned and I respect that.

  18. How about we snag Kyle as the offensive coordinator and Rick as the quarterback coach?

Or would it be the other way around?

Both of them on staff would be great. You want as many coaches who are familir with the same system as possible. With the disconnect we've seemed to have with offensive coaches that would be a good move. Don't like Dennison at QB coach though. Definitely want Kyle as OC, maybe Dennison at RB coach or "Run Game Coordinator" if that is actually a position lol. But both guys would be great seeing as how one might actually get a HC job next year.

I have a bad feeling that he is... Just something my gut is telling me!

    DAMN YOU GUT! Lol

I just feel like if he was the guy then they wouldn't feel the need to hold all these interviews.

    0

  19. I think he's still interviewing because this is super integral to the success of the franchise. The Ravens just signed Joe Flacco to a $120.6 million dollar contract a season ago and have identified the zone blocking scheme as the future of the running game.

They want to make sure they get the best possible option for Joe Flacco and the run game. I don't blame them for taking so long. This is a HUGE decision for the offense.

Couldn't agree more. I really don't care how long it takes because it's not really hampering the team in any way. We the fans want it to happen quickly just to see if we should get excited or get upset, but reality is you rather have the right decision then the quick decision. We already know the direction we want to go offensively so scouting players and deciding the right type of guys to bring in won't be an issue imo.

Fans can say what they want about Harbs, but the man seems dedicated to making the right decision for this offense and team moving forward.

  20. I love this news simple because it's giving me more and more evidence that the Ravens are moving away from that low percentage, stagnet offense. Kyle and Rick seem to have simliar offenses and I think they fit what we wanna do and need to do to take this offense to the next level.

I think we are fully comitted to a change offensively, it's just about finding the right man to lead that change. My vote is still Kyle, but just knowing the background of Dennison has me excited for where the offense could go with either guy. Seriously doubt Hoss is the guy.

    4

  21. The 11th hour interview just finish a final meeting to work out all the details for Shanahan's contract. We don't wanna just announce the hire on Monday, we want Kyle in his office working with scouts on the kinda players he needs for his offense, we need him working with Harbs to bring in assistant coaches. In fact that 11th hour interview is for Shanahan's top choice for QB coach.

I'm sticking to Monday being the day and Shanahan being the guy. Make the announcement and let the guy get to work. No need for a presser or anything. Just announce and work.

  22. I hear you, it is the age old classic the devil you know scenario. we don't know what is hostler is go to implement on offense. So we want what is proven and we seen how shanahan made his team offense in the top half of the league.

Oh I definitely agree with that and that's why I want Shanny. I just don't buy the theory that if Hoss is named it's because he's a Harbuddy
